lead: Winter is just a season. Some people even go for an extreme swim at Lake Balaton in January, but you don't have to do such an extreme sport to have a good time.

tartalom: + 1 Would it be cool though? If you want to look cool by swimming in a natural lake in winter try Lake Hévíz. The temperature of the Lake never goes below 24˙C, not even in the winter. In Hévíz it doesn't matter what season it is: it is always bathing time! This is a proven fact! Did you know? Tired muscles, cold toes, and stress dissolve in warm water! In the thermal spa pools, you can enjoy the hot steam all day and night at 36°C. Wherever you go, sooner or later (sooner is the better) you're bound to stumble upon a poolside. Melt yourself out with the power of steam! As soon as winter sets in, the sauna stones start to glow. Honey, fragrant, coconut, beer infusions, and refreshing saunas await you. You don't have to start with the 90°C Finnish sauna, instead start with the aroma or steam cabin and relax with the power of nature! A water experience in a different way! Ever been paddling in winter? Have you ever paddled at all? Only here, and only in winter, you can experience it on the Hévíz Stream. Not only the experience is special, but the landscape is also a sight to behold! Which is why only a very limited number of paddlers can paddle on a stretch of about 10 km. If you want to go on a canoe trip, you should book early for this programme! But good news: it is safe for children too and even recommended for beginners! In fact, zigzagging is even more fun. Forget the water! Warm water and steam are not the only ways to warm up. Explore the so called ‘Vadlán-lik (Wild Girl’s Cave) or find out yourself if the basalt organs really play some music or not. Finally, make a selfie from the top of one of the lookout towers of the Keszthely Hills, or from the Castle of Szigliget,with Lake Balaton and the basalt hills in the background! Catch fire! Would you like to participate in a small adventure tour, just here, just in town, preferably not too long? Join a torch-lit tour of the town, discover the secrets of Hévíz on a magical evening on our night tour! You can sign up for the tour at the Tourinform in Hévíz.   There’s a Plan B! You arrived in the city, and it’s raining all day.  Don't stay home! It's open now as well! If you like challenges and moving a lot The Adrenalin Arena in Alsópáhok is the perfect choice for you. The Arena is fun for adults and for children as well. For the less adventurous, Keszthely's Helikon Castle Museum is the place to visit. In the castle you can spend days, since there are six different exhibitions waiting for you to explore them all. You may also find some other thermal baths in the area as well filled with slides and many pools. You're here to relax, not to jump!  Stay in the hotel and head to the spa. There's nothing better than one or more pampering sessions, a nice relaxing massage, a scented bath or some beauty treatments. Don’t forget to eat! Morning, noon, evening, anytime - have a steaming drink; tea, coffee, mulled wine, punch, hot chocolate and/or eat hot cream soups, pancakes, roasts, or the finest lángos in the city. You don't have to go down to the bar if you don't want to. Order everything from the hotel and spend the whole day in bed. lead: Do you know how old is the bath in Hévíz? Do you know how the old spa building looked like? Discover the history of the Hévíz Lakebath from the beginning to the present!

tartalom: + 1 The first rectangular bathhouse, consisting of two buildings, was built in 1795 by the landowner Count I. Festetics György. The news on the benefits of the medicinal water reached Vienna in 1801, and the presence of the white water lilies in the lake was already mentioned in a memoir in 1818. Additional Indian species were planted to these water lilies in 1898. In 1858, afforestation around the lake, modernisation of the spa buildings and development of the lakeside buildings for guests started. In the centre of the lake, the male and female mirror baths (baths surrounded with cabins) were located, but many people still used the sluice of Hévíz, which was wider that time, for swimming. Spa Hévíz in the 1910s and 1920s From 1905, leaseholder Reichl Vencel did his best to develop Hévíz into an international spa town.  The former bathhouse was replaced by a domed building, and it is also due to him that a number of modern accommodation and restaurants, and the „Cure Salon”, essential to the health resort, were built. In 1907, on the site of the old built bridge, a roofed bridge was erected and the characteristic two-towered main entrance was completed. In the same year, the Sanatorium and Spa Hotel of Hévíz was built. In 1911, the town received the „spa resort-like settlement” title. The running competition is organized by the Hévíz sports association for several distances and age groups. You can find the entry fees, distances and route on the event page, where the information is constantly updated. 19 May Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz This year, the Hévíz Lake team organizes two late-night bathing sessions in Lake Hévíz, once in the spring and once in the fall. This year, for the first time in mid-May, you can enjoy the atmosphere of a really fast-paced concert while swimming in the warm water of the thermal lake. The evening will be opened by the best-known ABBA hits, followed by a retro disco. 28-29 May Pentecost Superhero program For the third time, the Hello Hévíz - Hévíz Entrepreneurs Association organizes the Pentecost superhero family program. Many challenges, multiple locations, funny and fun trials throughout the city. Thus, we await guests with family-friendly programs even during the long weekend of Pentecost. 23 June Midsummers Eve's program On the occasion of Midsummers Eve's programs are expected in Hévíz on June 23. This year, the local entrepreneurs are also organizing a torchlight parade and an atmospheric, musical program in Egregy, in the museum garden. 13-16 July BEER promenade in Hévíz In whatever form you like it, come to us on the second weekend of July and celebrate with us the traditional drink, beer, also known as "liquid bread" for an entire weekend.In addition to beer, of course there is also a place for the delicious dishes that go with them, and days do not go by without good music. We warmly welcome everyone to a festival with a family atmosphere, where there will be interactive sessions and workshops during the day, and thematic programs in the evening. In Rákóczi Street, many local and invited wine houses, roast stalls and artisans will be selling their wares. It's noon on stagewe entertain the public visiting Hévíz with children's shows every afternoon and concerts in the evenings!   September TavirózsaFolkFest Negotiations are still ongoing regarding the autumn folk dance meeting, but we are confident that we will be able to watch the shows of many performers on the Rákóczi Street stage this year as well. September 15. Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz The second lakeside party of the year, extending into the night, will take place in mid-September. Similar to previous occasions like this, there will be live music, a retro disco atmosphere, night bathing, delicious snacks and refreshing drinks in the Hévíz Tófürdő. 16-17 October Chestnut festival Organized by the Tavirózsa Adventure Park, you will be able to learn everything about the chestnut again this year. From the care of saplings to the processing of sweet and wild chestnuts, many interesting things will be revealed at the autumn event, which of course will not leave children and food lovers without a program. On New Year's Eve, a street party will of course await guests visiting Hévíz. lead: Spring is here once more, and finally we can enjoy ourselves in the fresh air again. Spring and autumn are the best seasons for bicycle tours, however, cycling is a sport that you can pursuit in any season.

tartalom: + 1 What’s more, cycling is more than a sport! While cycling, you have the possibility to discover the world on two wheels while you are relaxing. Not to mention that cycling is also environmentally friendly and healthy as well! The bicycle road around Lake Balaton has been completed for 15 years. Cyclist have already cycled around the Lake more than once, but they are also ready for new challenges. Cycling became so popular in the past years that the bicycle roads are as crowded as the highways, especially in the summer season. The Hungarian Cyclist Association have been working relentlessly on the BB365 project and its results are already used by every biker. What is BB365 exactly? It is an abbreviation which stands for Balaton Bike 365, meaning that by Lake Balaton it is possible to enjoy bicycle services all year around. Thanks to the project, sign boards were placed out which signal 800 kilometres of bicycle roads in total, four times the length of the complete Lake Balaton bicycle round. 45 different thematic routes were also created, which are also noted by boards. For example, the routes including the Festetics Heritage are red coloured. Circle tours always have letter combinations. The three-digit numbers always mean local routes, while two-digit numbers mean national roads. One-digit roads usually connect to international roads. Be cautious though: the new signs don’t always signal separate bicycle roads since they can also point to appointed car roads or dirt roads too. The BB365 webpage and application are perfect for seeing these roads as well. The BB365 application was awarded ‘The Application of the Year’ award by the Hungarian Marketing Association last year. Cycling fans are able to plan their routes around Lake Balaton in 7 languages. Due to the project, three bicycle centres were also created in Keszthely, in Balatonfüred and in Balatonföldvár. In these centres, bicycles can be rented, or guided tour can be also booked. Fixing services will be also available in the future. For what the BB365 application is good for? Just like in Google, you will be able to make a cycling tour plan, however, in the BB365 app you will only see the routes that you can also cycle on. You will immediately see the quality of the road (bicycle road, car road, dirt road) and the altitudes as well. You are also able to filter your search based on recommended routes if you for example travel with your family or you would like to cycle with a mountain bike. You are also able to rate the routes and recommend it to others. With the pictograms, you can see the sights of the region like castles, viewpoints, museums or churches. Based on the short details given of the sights, you can easily plan where to stop during your trip. You can also search accommodations, restaurants, service points or spots to take free water. tartalom: + 1 The Cross and the Star There is a small eye-catching building in Helikon Street in Hévíz. At its peaks, the symbols -a cross and a star - indicate that we are in a sacred place. There is also a column next to it erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with the inscription in Hungarian 'Az ige kőszálként megáll', which is a quote from Psalm 46 meaning 'That word above all earthly powers'.     Although only a few Protestant residents were registered in Hévíz, a collection was in procession for the construction of a Protestant church by the guests staying here in the 1930s. Bálint Szeghalmy also made a plan in 1941. The money donation was collected for its implementation, but the raging war stopped his dream to become real. Finally in 1993, Hévíz donated a plot of land to build a joint Lutheran-Reformed church. The Lutheran and Reformed congregations decided to implement the old plan of Bálint Szeghalmy in a slightly modernized version, prepared by architect Mihály Zoób.     The cross placed on the gable of the church was carved out of white marble at the contractor's own expense. The bell is a donation from the family of Károly Borsos. The foundation stone was placed down on June 16, 1997, and the first service was held on December 6, 1998. In 2003, the church was enriched with the winged altarpiece of the Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning tapestry artist Rózsa Polgár, and in 2004 with the organ designed and built by the organ builder Albert Miklós from Győr.   The Heart of Jesus Church, also known as Fradi Church In 1905, in the neighbourhood of the Roman ruins in the Egregy district of Hévíz, a two-storey bell tower was erected in place of the wooden belfry that had stood there for more than 100 years. In 1937, from local donations, the bell tower was expanded with another level and a tin roof. It was built in a Neo-Romanesque style with twin windows. Two bells were placed in the tower, a smaller one in honor of Mary Magdalene, which was cast in 1905, and a larger one in memory of the 16 heroic soldiers of Egregy who fell in World War I. The latter was made in 1937. In memory of the heroes, 16 linden trees were planted next to the tower, with a head tree at their base.     The bell tower was then renovated in 1990 with the voluntary donation of the people of Egregy, and on April 22, 1995 it was consecrated as the Church of the Heart of Jesus. And why is it called Fradi Church by the locals? Because the church, which was built largely from donations, received unexpected help, as the Ferencváros Gymnastics Club (a famous Hungarian football team from Budapest, nicknamed as Fradi) was also among the donors as well. Not only did the supporters make a financial contribution, but the team and club leadership were present at the consecration of the church. They even donated Fradi Relics to the church (most recently in 2017), which visitors of the church could see in a display case. In light of this, it is not surprising that the church, originally designed in blue and white, was eventually painted green and white which are the official colours of the football team.     Next to the church, a military memorial park was established in 2000 to commemorate the soldiers, civilians and Jewish victims of Egregy and Hévízszentandrás who fell in the First and Second World Wars. In doing so, 70 named headstones were erected. However, only 6 remained of the former 16 linden trees planted.     The Catholic Church on the shores of Lake Hévíz The western shore of Lake Hévíz (today's Schulhof Promenade and the area of ​​the hospital buildings) used to belong partly to the village of Szentandrás and partly to the bishopric of Veszprém. These areas became the property of the Festetics family in 1857 and 1868 through land swaps. Soon after the expansion of the bath land near the lake and landscaping could begin. The row of the completed (except for one building) 7 bath buildings was completed by a chapel. Its construction began in the 1870s and was consecrated in 1877.     We only have a few old engravings and postcards from the chapel, and we also found only a few photos of the inside. The chapel was finally demolished in 1964, when the most modern balneotherapy center in the country was built in its place in the most modern architectural style of the time. It is essentially the hospital’s indoor thermal bath, the Winter Bath, today’s Indoor Bath and Therapy Center, which was handed over in 1968.     The altar of the old Church is going to be exhibited soon on the renovated Shulhof Promenade.   The Holy Spirit Church The most modern and well-known church can be seen from the beginning of the main street leading to the city, as its blue peaks rise high. The church opposite the town hall, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people, was built according to the plans of János Bocskai and was consecrated on September 9, 1999 by retired Archbishop József Szendi.     Breaking into the seven (5 middle and 2 side) towers, the tower guides its visitors to the city from afar. The seven towers symbolize the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, while the pigeon motif symbolizing the Holy Spirit appears in several places on the building (even the shape of the church looks like a dove opening its wings if we look at the church from the air). On the one hand, in the floor plan of the church, in the design of the floor in front of the entrance, in the motifs of the interior wood and in the painting of the glass window above the main altar.     The interior of the church combines modern architecture and tradition, which is mainly emphasized by the beautiful wood paneling. Due to its good acoustics, it often hosts organ and acoustic concerts. The colorful windows, reminiscent of Gothic style, praise the work of Simon Endre, an artist from Hévíz. The torso on the wall of the sanctuary is a 200-year-old art treasure that was donated to the church. The bronze statue of Christ on the left side of the altar and the statue of Our Lady of Hungary wearing the crown on the right side are also the work of László Marton. The walls are decorated with fire enamel pictures. No bells were placed in the tallest tower for static reasons, but 2-2 bells were placed in the towers to the left and right. Two bells were brought here from 2 old churches in Hévíz, while the other two were donated by families in Hévíz. By the way, the church is mostly mentioned only by the locals and guests as "Blue Church".   The Synagogue, only a memory If we walk towards the Protective Forest of the Lake, next to the entrance to the Deák Square of the Lake Bath, a monument appears at the foot of the trees in the park. The synagogue of Hévíz used to stand here. The lines of the monument evoke the facade of the building of the former house of prayer, with names on it that were once taken from here to death. Among others, dr. Chief physician Vilmos Schulhof.     There were not many Jews living in Hévíz, it is estimated that there could be no more than 2-3% of the population, yet this community was strong enough to build a synagogue in 1933. It is a strange game of fate that the building survived both the Holocaust and the war fortunately, but by 1959 the religious life in Hévíz had ceased. As a result, the house of prayer was not used, its condition greatly deteriorated, so it was demolished in 1977. The monument, erected in 2000, in its simplicity commemorates the former synagogue on the one hand and the former local Jewry on the other, and the pebbles placed on it indicate that faith has survived.   Árpádian church in Egregy, the Church of St. Magdalene The exact time of construction of the church is unknown, it was probably built around mid-13th century. It is first mentioned in written records in 1341. The building was badly damaged in the 16-17th century, and was later renovated in the Baroque era in 1731. Fortunately, only the most necessary parts were repaired, so the medieval form of the church has been preserved. During this renovation, the interior and exterior decorative paintings, the elevation of the ship, and the vaults were also replaced. The first patron saint of the church was St. Catherine of Alexandria. After the rebuilding, it was rededicated and its new patron saint became St. Magdalene. Since then, the church has been restored several more times: in 1860, 1912, 1964-65, 1990 and 1991, and most recently in 2015.     On the south side of the church, we can find an open baroque door. The vault of the tower was renovated in the 18th century and is joined by a rectangular nave with a sanctuary. Inside the church, the only decorative element,  is the row of booths on the north wall. The wall painting of the church is not of medieval origin, but it shows respect for the folk elements. Inside the building, there is a fragment of a Romanesque baptismal font and a medieval consecrated cross.   Its tower has three floors and a rich design, with two and three twin windows opening on the levels. The tower is closed by a bucket helmet, which is stiffened by eight wooden beams. In terms of its foundations, it mainly preserved the forms of wooden architecture. Painted decorations and incised shapes have survived on the exterior surfaces. The church may have remained in this form because it lost its significance during the centuries. The former settlement was largely depopulated, the inhabitants moved a little further down the valley, so this church only served as a cemetery chapel. Therefore, it was not important to expand or transform it significantly.   An Orthodox church built in honor of the “Life-giving Source” icon of the Holy Mother of God The foundation stone of the Orthodox church was placed down on 27 December, 2019 in Hévíz. The church which is still under construction will be accessible from Ady Street.     Construction of the church began in the spring of 2020. As metropolitan Mark put it: their choice fell on Hévíz because here the healing of body and soul is possible at the same time, and because Hévíz boasts that Emperor Theodosius owed his life to the water of Hévíz and became one of the most influential in the Roman Empire according to an old legend. The church is based on the plans of the Ybl-awarded architect László Vánca. The 15x15 meter church is traditionally made of brick, with masterfully smoothed corners on its sending walls showing the asymmetrical relief niches, which are masterful combinations of modern and ancient motifs. The Orthodox tower helmet will be adorned with an eight-pointed gold-clad cross. lead: The project Be Ready (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy) addresses the climate change capacities in the Danube Region taking into account ecosystem-based approaches. The common challenge to be tackled is urban heat islands (UHI). The recent unprecedented heat waves demonstrate the acute need to strengthen the preparedness and adaptive capacity of the society to cope with impacts of climate change and foster resilience at city level.

tartalom: + 1 Be Ready aims to:          - provide local and regional authorities with research, assessment and operational instruments to better understand UHI, its drivers, and effects;          - co-create, test and validate jointly developed solutions to mitigate the UHI effects in cities;          - support partner cities to develop and adopt action plans for increased resilience to UHI effects with specific actions to promote green, blue, or white measures. The novel approach to be taken by the project – “green acupuncture” - will allow the partners, both cities and knowledge partners, to take targeted, small but powerful, context-based measures to deal with UHI in critical urban areas. City pilots will test solutions in three areas: “green acupuncture” (vegetation-based interventions); “white acupuncture” (based on innovative surfaces and materials); and “blue acupuncture” (novel uses of water resources). The project main outputs include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for UHI risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at city level; co-designed solutions for tackling UHI, tested and peer reviewed in urban environment by 12 pilot cities; a common strategy for improving the climate change preparedness and resilience aimed at local and regional authorities in the Danube region; action plans and transformative strategic outlooks for the participating partners; policy recommendations; a virtual training program with SPOCs; awareness campaigns in 12 countries over the 30-month period. Key for Be Ready is the ClimateSandbox approach that will support participating cities to define and deploy climate-oriented innovations – both on the technological and service side (i.e. content) and on the policy, administrative and spatial planning side (i.e. enabling conditions), through the innovative digital Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool. The project's ambition is to showcase to decision-makers and other stakeholders across Europe the benefits of adopting solutions in which the environment, simplicity, and aesthetics play a key role as value-generating agents as well as community engagement drivers, throughout the co-design process, acting both at levels of solution definition, development, and deployment. lead: The Lake Bath of Hévíz awaits you with a special program on 17 May, between 7 pm and 10 pm for the first time this year.

tartalom: + 1 COLD EVENING. WARM WATER. HOT MOOD. Although nights are still a little cold, the early summer weather still promises a good time for 17 May. Besides the hot thermal water, many other things await those who buy tickets for the Friday event; live music, food specialties, coctails are being prepared by the team of the Lake. On this day, the entrance of Festetics Spa reopens at 7 pm and visitors can bath at a certain beach with lights during the evening. Cocktails and food specialties will be served at the terrace of Vital Bar. The good mood is guaranteed by DJ LOTFI BEGI performances. If you would like to participate in the atmospheric night bathing, we advise you buying your tickets in advance. We provide the opportunity to purchase tickets online at https://jegy.spaheviz.hu/ or at the venue on the day of the event. Only people over 16 can participate in the program. A limited number of tickets are available. Ticket price HUF 6,500/person. We recommend redeeming tickets with a QR code purchased online for wristbands on the day of the event - during the daytime opening hours of the Hévíz Tófürdő - to avoid queuing at the ticket office in the evening. Bathing is only allowed in designated areas. A maximum of 50 people can stay in the wellness department at the same time. Entry, exchange of tickets and redemption of tickets purchased online for wristbands is possible on the day through the Festetics Bathhouse and the Main Entrance. Vital Bar awaits bathers with non-alcoholic and alcoholic long drinks, hot and cold drinks. The offer of our Medio buffet is supplemented with street food during the evening. Payment means: cash, bank card, SZÉP card (OTP, K&H, MBH). The welcome drink can be redeemed against the coupon attached to the entrance ticket. In the case of online purchases, the coupon will be provided on site alongside the entrance wristband. We do not accept complaints after leaving the checkout. We cannot refund the ticket price. This ticket type can only be used on the evening of May 17, 2024. We reserve the right to change the program in case of bad weather. Everyone participates in the programs at their own risk. lead: On Earth Day (April 22), let's acknowledge the efforts and contributions of projects in our city that help preserve both the city and the planet for future generations.

tartalom: + 1 In the face of growing global climate change, the need to respond to its impacts has never been more urgent. The Danube Transnational Programme (DTP) promotes economic, social, and territorial cohesion in the Danube River region, enabling partners from 14 countries to test innovative solutions for climate resilience.   The first call of the Interreg Danube Region Programme attracted 290 concepts, of which 89 passed to the second stage, and 60 reached the stage of financing agreements. Twenty of these projects fall under the priority "A greener, low-carbon Danube Region." One innovative project from this selection is Be Ready (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy). The project aims to provide local and regional authorities with tools to identify urban heat islands and understand their causes and consequences on human health, productivity, energy consumption, and biodiversity. The project brings together 19 partners from 12 countries jointly developing solutions to mitigate the effects of heat islands in urban environments. Partner cities, including Hévíz will develop action plans to overcome urban heat islands through data analysis, urban planning solutions, regulations, increased awareness, and infrastructure measures.   A key aspect of the project's approach is the concept of "urban acupuncture" - specific small interventions with a large effect. Urban pilot activities will explore solutions in three areas: "green acupuncture," using vegetation; "white acupuncture," using innovative surfaces and materials; and "blue acupuncture," related to new ways of using water resources.   You can get involved and support actions fighting climate change Hévíz and make the world more sustainable for everyone.
