tartalom: + 1 It is an ancient massage based on Far-eastern traditions. Thai massage is a dry massage, no oils or lotions are used during the treatment; clients wear comfortable light clothes. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor or on a mattress. During the massage the acupuncture points are stimulated by using a point pressurizing technique. In Thai massage the techniques of acupressure are joined with stretching, dislocating and snapping elements. Thai masseurs use their hands, elbows, knees and feet during the treatment. An original Thai massage takes about an hour to one and half hours. As it is longer than a traditional massage, the impact of the massage lasts also longer. After the massage client is both physically and mentally rejuvenated, the blood circulation is stimulated and the energies of the body are also activated.  Thai massage does not move the muscles, but by the stimulation of the acupuncture points equalizes the body parts. Regular application of Thai massage has a beneficial impact on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, digestive and locomotor (joint and spine problems, back and lower back aches) diseases and provides client with a sense of physical well-being. Treatments used to take place in churches, they were rather considered as mental exercise than physical treatment. In terms of Thai massage the Wat Pho Church located in Bangkok is still an important training and healing centre.

lead: + 3 The therapy named after Dr. Sebastian Kneipp monk is based on the stimulus generated by the alternation of cold and hot water.
tartalom: + 1 Dr. Kneipp revolutionized holistic medicine in the 19th century. Main features of the Kneipp-therapy: first of the all the body is heated up, which is followed by a short cooling session and the body is reheated again by using physical exercise. Traditional Kneipp-therapy elements are the followings: hand-, elbow- and knee pouring; hot-wet bolstering and hot baths. The therapy also involves physical exercise in fresh air. The bottom part of the Kneipp foot bath is covered with rounded stones. Stones are covered by cold water. Guests are walking in the bath by lifting their feet from the water to hot air, while the stones are gently massaging the soles. This way cold water and hot air generates the alternating bath character. The alternation of cold water and hot air stimulates the vein walls, thus having a beneficial effect on the blood circulation and refreshing the feet. Regular usage of the Kneipp foot bath prevents the development of inflammations and stimulates the metabolism. Kneipp-therapy is also applied in the case of circulation disorders, tense muscles and exhaustion. Principles of the Kneipp-therapy: for the treatment of chronic illnesses hot stimulus and in the case of acute illnesses cold stimulus is recommended accurate, unambiguous water therapy dosage is required for the best effects cold stimulus can be exclusively applied on hot body (heating takes place by using hot water or with the help of exercise) re-heating after treatment (with hot clothing or exercise) Interesting Sebastian Kneipp was suffering from a serious disease from an early age: he had tuberculosis. He was trying to overcome his illness by self-healing. He applied the knowledge written down by Johann Sigmund Hahn in his book in practice. He tried a method in the winter of 1849 - he run to River Danube, while breathing heavily, he got undressed and jumped into the ice-cold river, than he came out of the water, got dressed and run home- which had a positive effect on his illness. As a result of the “treatment” he felt refreshed and healthier and he repeated the treatment on many occasions following his first try. As an additional treatment he was pouring water on his body and he regularly went bathing. As a result of the therapy he regained his health.

lead: + 3 Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton are quite popular destinations in Hungary. Daily, more than ten thousand people spend their holidays in this beautiful region. However, we might raise the question: what do we know and what should we know about the two most iconic lakes of Hungary?
tartalom: + 1 While Lake Balaton is the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe, Lake Hévíz is the world’s biggest thermal lake that is also suitable for bathing. The source of Lake Balaton is a river called Zala, while Lake Hévíz has its source from a cave underneath the lake. The water of Lake Balaton flows through the Sió channel into the river Danube, however, the water of Lake Hévíz flows into the Gyöngyös stream, then to Small Balaton and ends up in Lake Balaton. The deepest point of Lake Balaton is about 11 metres in contrast to Lake Hévíz, where the source point is 38.5 metres deep. The surface of the water of Lake Balaton is 600 km2 whereas Lake Hévíz has only a 0.0475 km2 water surface. Due to the great water output of Lake Hévíz, the complete water of the lake is replaced in every 72 hours. Regarding Lake Balaton, this phenomenon takes almost two years. The temperature of Lake Balaton can be as high as 28°C on hot summer days; however, during cold winters the upper layers of the water can freeze. The ice can even grow 25 cm thick. On the other hand, the temperature of Lake Hévíz never goes below 23°C, not even in the winter. In the summer, the water of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36°C hot. We would be able to swim around Lake Hévíz in about half an hour if the buildings did not prevent us from doing so. Nonetheless, a week wouldn’t be enough to swim around Lake Balaton. Lake Balaton is full of both summertime and wintertime activities: you can rent a boat or a paddleboat, you can surf, sail and try out many extreme sports, while in the winter you can ice skate or slide if the ice is thick enough. In Lake Hévíz, you may only bath; however, you can do so every day of the year. The water of Lake Balaton is qualified as drinking water, whereas the water of Lake Hévíz is medicinal water also suitable for cures and many people drink it. In Lake Balaton, you can bath all day long, while, in Lake Hévíz, it is advisable to stay only thirty minutes at a time. We can even walk into Lake Balaton from the shores, while into Lake Hévíz we can descend into the water through stairs since the water is 2 metres deep around the shores as well. The typical flora of Lake Balaton is the reed which is mostly located around the shores. Lake Hévíz is famous for the beautiful water lilies that float around the whole Lake. Both lakes are rich in different species of fish. The mud of Lake Balaton is quite popular with kids who love playing with it on the beaches. On the other hand, the mud of Lake Hévíz is favoured by adults, who like to use the mud on their bodies due to its medical benefits. Lake Balaton as a touristic region is the second most popular region in Hungary after Budapest. At the same time, Hévíz, following Budapest, has the greatest number of guest nights in Hungary. Lake Balaton offers spectacular views whether you are watching it in the embrace of monadnocks, admiring it in a storm, or you are taking photos of the birds gathering along the crevasses or of the bellying sails. The crystal clear turquoise colour of Lake Hévíz, the blooming water lilies floating on it, the whirling mist above it, the reflection of the buildings at night, and to be aware that you are floating above 38.5 meters are a mystical feeling. Both Lake Balaton and Lake Hévíz are national treasures, which have evolved over millions of years as they are today. They are not for us, but we enjoy all the good that they can give us. We have to save and protect them so that the future generations would be able to enjoy the unparalleled natural beauty they provide.

lead: By reaching the 12th place, Hévíz has overtaken some deservedly popular cities such as Milan, Berlin or Prague at the public vote.
tartalom: + 1 Background: Every year since 2009, the "European Best Destination" competition has been held. In the course of the competition, the public can decide which city of the top 20 tourist paradises in Europe is worthy of the title of "best destination". The prize was established to promote European tourism and culture, in cooperation with more than 300 tourism partners and the EDEN network set up by the European Commission. This year's ‘European Best Destination 2020’ vote ended at noon on 5 th February 2020, with over 600,000 votes on Europe's top destinations. As Hévíz was competing with favoured cities such as Paris, Madrid or Vienna, even takingpart in this great competition was a great pleasure for Hévíz. The result: In this exclusive competition, Hévíz finished in the top fifteen, ahead of, among others Prague and Madrid. The 12th place that Hévíz achieved shows that Hévíz received the most votes among the spa towns in the nine-year history of the competition, so Hévíz is one of the greatest spa brands in Europe. During the competition, - in addition to domestic votes - many votes were received from German, English, Norwegian, Austrian, Russian and Asian travellers. This clearly proves that Hévíz is a prestigious tourist destination of these nations.     Its significance: Hévíz is not only famous for the world's largest natural thermal lake; but for years, more and more guests have been attracted by the high quality of hotel services, excellent gastronomy and leisure facilities, which are becoming increasingly popular with families and groups of friends. Hévíz boasts the title of European Capital of Well-Being in 2020, based on the results of the competition. Hévíz is listed all year round on Europe's most visited tourist website as a highly recommended destination: it has six million website visitors and ninety thousand Facebook followers. Tourist activity increased by an average of 15% in the settlements participating in the competition in previous years. We would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for Hévíz and by doing so strengthened Hévíz's position in this outstanding league. True to our promise, among those who participated in our game related to the voting, on 14th February, on Valentine's Day, we will draw a wellness holiday for a couple in Hévíz. The lucky winner will be notified via email.

tartalom: + 1 New investments are taking place at many locations of the Lake Balaton Touristic Region. The investments and developments are aiming locations which are in connection with the Festetics Family of Keszthely. Thanks to the project, a cultural route is being created which will not only introduce the region but will also focus on the heritage of the Festetics. Regarding Hévíz, the main focus of the project is to completely renew the promenade around the lake. Since the investments are taking place in a nature reserve, careful planning preceded the beginning of the work. The plan had reached its final form with the inclusion of conservationist experts and with competent authority approval. The plan was also examined in accordance with the environmental action program defined by the European Union. As a result, the protection of the flora and fauna will be extremely important during the execution of the plan. For instance, the first step of the building process will take place outside of the growing season so the works wouldn’t disturb the hatching and nursing season of the birds. To preserve the character and the natural value of the park, a certain part of the tree and scrog stock will be renewed as well. The majority of the plants to be cut (63 scrogs and trees) are not native. To their stead, 12,500 new plants will be planted, focusing on the following: The first points to consider during the choosing of the new plants were the natural value, décor and variety. It was highly important to choose new plants which would bloom over more seasons and that the different structures and foliage would be appealing to the scene. Since the park is visited all year long, a lot of evergreens were also chosen. During the 12-month development, new attractions and services will provide convenience for the guests. The new attractions, promenades, photo points, the music pavilion and the pergola will revive a historical atmosphere. The fountains, the lights, the irrigation system and the rainwater channels will be also renovated. Partial roadblocks are to be expected during the works, however, the renovation won’t disturb the services of the Lake or the Saint Andrews Rheumatological Hospital.   [galeria]

tartalom: + 1 Kányavári Island The arched wooden bridge built from wooden beams in the 1980s has now become a symbol of Kis-Balaton. We can enjoy a wonderful view from the bridge. We can admire such special waterfowl as the great egret, gray heron, or the cormorant, which is less popular with fishermen. On the one-and-a-half kilometer long Búbosvöcsök nature trail, 15 signs present the fish, birds, and mammals of the Little Balaton. You can also fish on the island and you can spy the water and the Zalai hills from two lookouts. In cooler weather, a little indoor attraction is good The Kis-Balaton Visitor Center is an exhibition of the Balaton Upland National Park that has only been open for 2 years. It is an excellent choice for the whole family all year round. You can walk along an interactive nature trail on the building's green-roofed structure, which looks like wildlife crossings. From here you can clearly see the winter bird feeders and you can hear the "opening song" of the ever more active black tit. The building houses a gift shop and a restaurant, and children can enjoy fresh air on the playground in the courtyard, while parents refresh themselves with coffee. Part of the exhibition is the cinema, where during a half-hour film we can get to know the winter-summer, autumn-spring life of Kis-Balaton through soul-touching quotes selected from the novels of István Fekete Tüskevár and Téli berek, all in the understanding interpretation of Gábor Reviczky. In the interactive part of the exhibition, we can find out what invasive species are and why we don't like them. We will find out what the role of Little Balaton is in protecting the water quality of Lake Balaton, and we can even examine water samples ourselves. Those who want to see even more of this magical wildlife can take part in a guided canoe tour organized by the Balaton Upland National Park from early spring to late autumn. The winter canoeing season has also started on the Hévíz stream. Those who take part in this can row along the Hévíz stream and then the Gyöngyös stream, and get to know this unique wetland. The end point of the rowing tour is Diás Island, where the Matula hut, evoking the atmosphere of Tüskevár, stands. At the István Fekete Memorial next to the small wooden hut, you can also delve into the hidden wonders of Kis-Balaton during a very interesting exhibition. Our secret tip is the bird watch and fish ladder Several locations in Kis-Balaton, such as the aforementioned Diás island, can only be visited with a guide, but there are still quite a few romantic and protected areas that can be visited freely without a guide. Next to the Zala river, at the dam of Lake Hídvégi, you can find the Madárvártara, which was built by Zurich students from thousands of acacia logs without any nails or screws. Next to the parking lot, 100 meters away on the fish ladder, depending on the season, you can marvel at the cavalcade of fish. The fish ladder between the Zala River and Lake Hidvégi slows down the flow of water, so that fish can easily swim upstream.   Buffaloes and other types of animals In the Kápolnapuszta buffalo reserve, in addition to the black giants, the ground squirrels are the favorites of children and adults, who cutely graze on the grass grazed by the buffaloes. Anyone who did not know János Arany's poem Arany Lacinak would not even think that the poor groundhog was "cast". Even at the beginning of the 20th century, groundhogs were considered harmful and therefore water was poured into their passages. Other spectacular animals are the jumping goats and donkeys in the petting zoo. In the colonies dug into the loess wall, the gophers attract attention with their brightly colored feathers. But what about buffaloes? The Balaton Upland National Park started breeding water buffalo in the area purchased in 1992 for the purpose of gene conservation. The largest herd of buffaloes in the country can be found in the territory of the reserve, which lives in great peace with the gray cattle. During the winter, the animals spend most of their time in the barn near the entrance, where you can see the traditional animal husbandry in a cozy old photo next to the buffaloes. In case of good weather, the animals are in the pastures, which can be reached in the easiest way by a horse-drawn carriage ordered from the reception building. The giants are "buffalo-strong" and do not necessarily always approach people with friendly intentions, and driving through them in a horse-drawn carriage is a real "safari" feeling. A new feature of the reserve is the viewing platform, which was handed over on January 28, from which we can now also observe the animals from above. (GPS: 46.581816, 17.20314) Kis-Balaton House, cultural trip Next to Zalavár, next to the foundation walls of the former St. Adorján church and the Cyril and Methodius memorial column, you can enjoy photos of the wonders of Zala county in a very cool Millennium Memorial designed by Imre Makovecz. You can read the names of the county's settlements in the letters hanging from the top of the specially shaped dome. At the Kis-Balatonház exhibition, you can learn about the living world, and children can have fun on the playground. Next to the Kis-Balaton Ház, you can reach the Kányavári island on the asphalted bicycle path on the banks of the Zala river. At the Kis-Balaton Ház you can also rent a bicycle, if you don't start on the asphalted Zala coast, but in the other direction, you can even go as far as Zalaapáti on the embankment.   Are you interested in more hiking tips in the area? lead: We organised the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon for the first time this year. Here's what happened on 27 November!
tartalom: + 1 The competition was organised by the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd., the Balaton Uplands National Park, the Saint Andrew Rheumatological Hospital, the Vadlán Runners and the Vidra Water cruise team. More than 30 additional volunteers took part in the event. A special competition The goal of the organizers was to create a new sport competition that is also unique nationwide. They not only paired two completely different sports (rowing and running) as a duathlon but they have also chosen a very special venue. The Hévíz stream leads away the warm running water of Lake Hévíz, so despite the winter weather, you can row on a pleasantly warm, steaming stream. The date of the competition was also predetermined by the conditions of the location, as rowing on the Hévíz stream is only possible from November to March. As the stream belongs to the local national park, canoeing is strictly forbidden outside the given period since it would disturb the flora and fauna especially in the breeding season in summer. So it is no coincidence that the late autumn date has been chosen. The aim of the organizer, the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd. was also to draw attention to the importance of exercise, active recreation in nature and a healthy lifestyle. They wanted to prove that Hévíz is not only a paradise for lovers of healing and wellness, but it can also offer many values and opportunities for athletes at any time of the year. The competition itself 83 starting teams, a total of 146 competitors arrived at the water-gate of the Hévíz stream to get into the water by canoe, kayak or SUP, and to make their way to Fenékpuszta which is about 10 kilometres away. Participants were able to bring their own watercrafts but those who didn’t have their own were also able to rent a canoe on the spot. After completing the 10-kilometre water distance, the participants were able to leave the boats at the transfer point and change their water vehicle for running shoes. After this their task was to run back on the same route on the embankment next to the Hévíz stream to finally reach the finish line at the beach of Lake Hévíz. The race has started on November 27 at 9 am, when the first canoe on the Hévíz stream in the direction of Fenékpuszta set off. The participants started the competition periodically, a new canoe set sail in almost every second minute. The last runner arrived back at the Hévíz Lake Bath beach area at 3 pm. All participants received the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon medal. THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE FIRST DUATLON Pre-registration for the competition was open until November 19th. In the morning of November 27, 83 competitors finally set out to complete the approximately 21-kilometer distance, including rowing and then running. All together 48 two or three-member teams and 35 individual participants (28 men, 7 women) set off. We welcomed ultra-runners, kayakers and amateur athletes among the competitors. No one gave up the race, all starters covered the distance without accident, so in the end all 146 competitors received the HEVIZIBIVALY medals. THE FINALISTS TEAMS: BL Team (#49) with a time of 2:10:04. Tamás Kolb and Judit Maléth (#54) with a time result of 2:15:28. Tamás Horváth and Gábor Major (#8), with a time result of 2:15:42. IN THE INDIVIDUAL WOMEN'S CATEGORY Éva Berekalli (#79) with a time result of 2:16:35. Helga Szidónia Kőhalmi (#71) with a time result of 2:18:23. Anita Galliné Szabó (#68) with a time result of 2:26:27. IN THE INDIVIDUAL MEN 'S CATEGORY Álmos Kassai (#84) with a time result of 1:42:16. József Friedrich (#89) with a time result of 1:52:58. Zoltán Csécsei (#92) with a time result of 1:55:42. A special award was given to the fastest SUP competitor Kornél Kazai. The success of the competition and the sincere enthusiasm of the competitors confirmed the organizers to organise the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon competition again and again every year during the winter, if they can. We want more and more people to prove that they do have the buffalo power too! We truly hope that every participant has enjoyed the race! See you next year as well! And lastly…   Why the competition is called ‘HEVIZIBIVALY’ 'HEVIZIBIVALY' means 'buffalo from Hévíz' in Hungarian. Barely 50 years ago, water buffaloes were trampled along the bed of the Hévíz stream several times a year. The buffalos were driven here from the area to walk up and down in the creek bed. As the bed of the stream was always full of plants, the buffalos trampling down the plants ensured that the water flowed continuously and evenly in the direction of Lake Balaton. Buffaloes still live in several places in the area today, but they no longer have the task of cleaning the creek bed.   This year our competitors have proven that they have the power of a buffalo. But do you have what it takes? Come and join us next year!   Some photos from the event: [galeria]

tartalom: Indian waterlilies, mosquitofishes, ides, little grebes, dice snakes, bald cypresses, cyanophytes… Just a few to see how many unique and diverse species live together in the lake, the stream and forest that surrounds them.   The most photographed The Indian waterlily which is indigenous in Bengal (Nymphaea rubra var. loniflora), was planted into Lake Hévíz in 1898 by Sándor Lovassy an agricultural engineer from Keszthely. The pink flowers are usually only 5-7 centimetres above the water. At the moment, the flowers start to bloom in the late evening, and they close their petals in the morning. On the other hand, the smaller white waterlilies (Nymphaea alba L.var. minor) are already indigenous in the thermal water of Hévíz. At the moment, they are not present in the lake, but you can spot them in the Hévíz stream.   The smallest In the water, many strains of bacteria can be also found. There are two species of bacteria which can only be found in Hévíz including the miscromonospora of Hévíz (Micromonospora heviziensis).   The most protected The little grebe is the most protected species at the Lake. In Hungary, they can only survive the winter here. By the stream, we can see many families but sometimes they build a nest at the Lake as well.  Once they nested at one of the stairs leading into the water, so the guests of the Lake could see them from up close. Unlike other grebe species, the little grebe not only eats fish but smaller organisms as well.   The biggest The road leading to Hévíz is called Festetics alley, which is a beautiful alley filled with enormous bald cypresses. The breathtaking cypresses are from North America, in Hévíz you can meet them in the protective forest around the lake. Unlike other cypresses, its leaves become red during the autumn, and the leaves completely fall off in the winter. They are wonderful to see both in the summer with their green crowns and during the autumn with golden and reddish leaves.   The prettiest The common kingfisher doesn’t have a regular nesting place, but they can be spotted in Hévíz quite frequently. Most of the times we can see them by the Hévíz stream.   The ones with the best smell We also have a beautiful pink flower to show you, which most of times live rooting into the mud. The flowering rush grows even 2 metres above the water surface. They bloom from June to August, and they usually spread by scattering their seeds on the water.   Tourists and residents There are some who only come back for the summer, while other come for the winter. During the spring many bird species return to Hévíz like the barn swallows, the common house martins and then the Eurasian coots. The great cormorant can be often spotted by the streams, the grey herons and egrets also like to visit us from time to time from the Kis-Balaton areas. Many ducks already feel at home by the water of the Lake.   If you have problems with mosquitoes… There is a small fish in the Lake of Hévíz which has a great appetite for mosquitoes! The so-called mosquito fishes are not indigenous in Hévíz, however, they definitely feel at home in our waters. Many other tropical fishes can be also found in the stream who enjoy the warmer water.   The most frightening The dice snake definitely looks frightening to some, but in reality it is a really peaceful animal who likes to live in the water. It is only a 75-100 centimetre long and as its name suggests its back is filled with little black shapes.     There are many things to explore regarding the unique flora and fauna of Hévíz. Come and experience it first hand!     More information: Tourinform Hévíz 8380 Hévíz, Rákóczi str. 2. heviz@tourinform.hu +36 83 540 131

The effectiveness of Traditional Hévíz Therapy, which has excellent results in alleviating musculoskeletal complaints, is proven by the 220-year-old history of thermal medicine, thousands of recovered guests and modern medical research. In addition to bathing in medicinal water, the basic elements of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy are mudpack and weight bath. As an additional treatment, drinking medicinal water from the drinking fountain is part of the package as well as various massages, movement therapies, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Ideally, the duration of the cure is two weeks. Institutions that have the necessary professional and medical background, as well as the medical infrastructure for the therapy (e.g. thermal water pool, weight bath, facilities for carrying out mud packs), are eligible for the trademark. Every two years, a professional committee verifies whether the requirements are met. On 15th February 2019, three experienced rheumatologists, Dr Annamária Bergmann, Dr Gábor Domokos and Dr Sándor Csordás, personally visited the institutions providing the Therapy to check the infrastructure and staffing conditions of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy. tartalom: + 1 “Health is closely intertwined with movement, which is prerequisite for walking. Walking is one of our most natural movements; it affects the functioning of the whole body..." Hévíz Thermal Bath and St. Andrew's Hospital for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation has opened the movement analysis laboratory, which has been tested for months and has been used by its patients, to the general public. The Kinesio lab, as the local people like calling it, was financed with own resources amounted to HUF 190 million.  By means of the most advanced digital technology and computer-controlled equipment, trained physiotherapists help you to get an overall picture of the state of your bones, joints, and muscles, your body composition and gait. After analysing the results produced by the machine, patients will, of course, receive an important and clear medical report and, if necessary, a treatment plan, which can be supplemented by dietetic advice too.   Dr Attila Kvarda, the Director General of the Hospital for Rheumatology, stressed that the movement analysis laboratory is an important part of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy, as it helps to get a precise picture of the patient's pre- and post-treatment state. With this complex examination, the effectiveness of treatments in movement therapy can be measured objectively both in the short and the long term. In the long run, with the help of the test results, the specialists can draw up a more specialized treatment package for the patients with certain types of symptoms, therefore they can develop the most effective treatment processes. In addition to the patient’s feedback, with the aid of the clearly measurable computer analysis, the effects of treatment processes can be checked from time to time. The tests of the Kinesio lab can be used by patients referred to the hospital, but the tests are also available to anyone for a fee, and, of course, anyone who has been tested receives a medical report. The movement analysis is not only recommended for patients who have already received treatment It is recommended for younger people on a preventive basisand for athletes in order that they could get a precise picture of the state of their joints and muscles, which are loaded more than the average, and also of the condition of their body either to prevent sports injuries or to follow up existing injuries. In these types of tests, the staff of the Kinesio lab in Hévíz actively collaborate with the athletes and sports doctor of the Hévíz Handball Team.
