lead: The therapy named after Dr. Sebastian Kneipp monk is based on the stimulus generated by the alternation of cold and hot water.

tartalom: + 1 Dr. Kneipp revolutionized holistic medicine in the 19th century. Main features of the Kneipp-therapy: first of the all the body is heated up, which is followed by a short cooling session and the body is reheated again by using physical exercise. Traditional Kneipp-therapy elements are the followings: hand-, elbow- and knee pouring; hot-wet bolstering and hot baths. The therapy also involves physical exercise in fresh air. The bottom part of the Kneipp foot bath is covered with rounded stones. Stones are covered by cold water. Guests are walking in the bath by lifting their feet from the water to hot air, while the stones are gently massaging the soles. This way cold water and hot air generates the alternating bath character. The alternation of cold water and hot air stimulates the vein walls, thus having a beneficial effect on the blood circulation and refreshing the feet. Regular usage of the Kneipp foot bath prevents the development of inflammations and stimulates the metabolism. Kneipp-therapy is also applied in the case of circulation disorders, tense muscles and exhaustion. Principles of the Kneipp-therapy: for the treatment of chronic illnesses hot stimulus and in the case of acute illnesses cold stimulus is recommended accurate, unambiguous water therapy dosage is required for the best effects cold stimulus can be exclusively applied on hot body (heating takes place by using hot water or with the help of exercise) re-heating after treatment (with hot clothing or exercise) Interesting Sebastian Kneipp was suffering from a serious disease from an early age: he had tuberculosis. He was trying to overcome his illness by self-healing. He applied the knowledge written down by Johann Sigmund Hahn in his book in practice. He tried a method in the winter of 1849 - he run to River Danube, while breathing heavily, he got undressed and jumped into the ice-cold river, than he came out of the water, got dressed and run home- which had a positive effect on his illness. As a result of the “treatment” he felt refreshed and healthier and he repeated the treatment on many occasions following his first try. As an additional treatment he was pouring water on his body and he regularly went bathing. As a result of the therapy he regained his health.

tartalom: + 1 It is almost customary that during the summer there is a good festival in almost every city in the weekends. Most of the time, it is almost impossible to choose from the better and better festivals to visit. Unfortunately, there are few outdoor programs, concerts in the weekdays. Here, in Hévíz it's on the contrary! In addition to the festivals organised for the weekend, our city is preparing with programs for each night of the week. On Monday evenings, the Operetta Theatre of Budapest entertains our guests in Fontana Cinema. For years, one of the most well-known Hungarian operetta singer Marika Oszvald performs on our stage who was also awarded with the prestigious Kossuth and Jászai Mari awards. Tickets are available for purchase in Fontana Cinema and in the Tourinform Office for 3900 HUF. On Tuesdays, the Summer Evenings of Music program awaits our guests who enjoy music. Every week, different artists of several genre entertain the lovers of music on the small stage of Festetics square. From world music to folk music, everyone can find something for themselves to enjoy. The concerts are free of charge. On Wednesdays, live music can be listened to in the vinehills of Egregy. The four-member band with dancers usually play Moldovan folk songs and teaches dance moves for the audience. If you don't want to dance, the songs are still worth listening to while you are having a wonderful dinner. Furthermore, on Wednesdays a Historical Premium Vine Tasting is organised in the Museum of Egregy. Every attendee can visit the museum, the buffet, and the vine tasting as well. If you want to attend the program, you must apply for it in advance either at the venue or in the Tourinform Office by Tuesday night. The program costs 7000 HUF. Also on Wednesdays, organ concerts can be listened to in the Heart of Jesus Church (also known as Green Church) in Egregy. From week to week, Miklós Teleki's organ play can be heard occasionaly with additional guest musicians. From August, the concerts will be held in the freshly renovated Holy Spirit Church (also known as Blue Church).  Tickets are available for purchase for 2400 HUF and 2100 HUF (for pensioners) at the venue and in the Tourinform Office. On Thursdays, we are also preparing with programs. In recent years, on the stage of the Market of Hévíz a folklore program was held which was so successful that it had to be moved to another venue. This year, the program is called „Táncba hív a nóta rózsám...” (quotation form a folk song)  and can be seen at the stage in Deák Square. The Nagyváthy Folkdance Group prepares with an hour long program including several songs from different Hungarian regions with 4-8 dance pairs. The attendance is free of charge. On the last Friday of every month, a historical walk in the city is organised for the ones who are interested in the legends, myths, and the hidden gems surrounding the city. The attendance is free of charge, however, registration in advance is necessary in Fontana Cinema. From Fridays to Sundays, usually festivals make the summer exciting. In July, the festival programs organised are called Flavours, Dances, Good Neighbours and Maria Magdalena's Saint's Day which is held in Egergy. In August, Nostalgia Weekend and Vine Festival awaits our guests. The attandence on the festivals are free of charge. If you are staying in Hévíz, there is one more place you must visit. The Market next to the Great Parking Lot is open on every Tuesday and Saturday mornings and on every Thursday afternoon. Zala Springs Golf Resort in Zalacsány is already welcoming visitors on the highest-ranking golf course in the region, complete with a brasserie, a club house and three apartment houses.According to plans, the resort will be able to cater for as many as over one thousand persons at a time, who will be the envied occupants of – in terms of scale – five hundred villas and apartments and will also soon be able to take possession of the new spa and wellness centre. The spa area was designed by the architecture firm Archikon, under the lead of Ybl-prize winner Csaba Nagy and Károly Pólus. Earlier, the company was actively involved, among other projects, in the reconstruction of Párisi udvar in Budapest, and, also thanks to their expertness, restored to its former glory, the Olof Palme House in the capital has recently opened its gates under the name of Millenium House. Development director András Sütő described the complex in Zalacsány as standing out from the landscape like a pagoda, surrounded by a pond populated by water lilies, giving the impression that it is hovering above the ground.“The essence of the conception is that we have aimed at exclusivity much rather than quantity. The wellness area will be very much different from other spas in domestic hotels, as planning has been done including excellent experts, who focussed on recharging related to golf and preservation of good health”, he explained.As an example, he mentioned the nozzles in the pool, which, by their positioning, will facilitate a real regeneration of the muscles, and not just give a nice experience. On top of this, the sauna will also be authentic, as a Finnish specialist helped them dream it up and not only will it convey the atmospheretypical of the northern saunas, but it will also have to be used as one.“In the planning stage, much attention was dedicated to balneological issues; balneology is the science that studies medicinal springs and their therapeutic applications and effects in spas. The physical features of water, such as temperature, pressure, flow, buoyant force and their impact on the organism of the bathers were closely studied”, he said. Mr Sütő also added, that, depending on the weather, visitors will be able to bathe both in open air and in indoor pools, and that the spa will offer an excellent opportunity to lovers of both active and passive recreation. lead: The main entrance of the Lake Bath located in the Dr Schulhof Vilmos Promenade closes on the 4th November and it is expected to stay closed until June 2020.

tartalom: + 1 Alexandra Czene, the manager of the Hévíz Lake Bath, told us that the temporary closure of the main entrance of Hévíz Lake Bathis needed due to renovation. The renovation will take at least 6-7 months, so the popular entrance with the cherubs in the Dr Schulhof Vilmos Promenade is expected to reopen in June. The dressing rooms of the main entrance buildingwill be renovated.The dressing rooms will undergo complex renovation work from November, so next summer, a completely refurbished, much nicer and more modern changing-room will be offered forvisitors. During the closing period, the Hévíz Lake Bath will be accessible via the entrance of the Festetics Bathhouse (Ady Endre Street), and the cash desks will continue to operate withthe usual opening hours. The Festetics Bathhouse entrance is accessible by car from Ady Street.Parking is available in the parking lot next to the overfall weir and,driving along Ady Street, in the designated car park, where you can also charge electric cars. On foot or by bicycle from Deák Square (bus station), you can reach the Festetics entrance in about 10 minutes by going along the promenade between the protective forest and Lake Hévíz. Walking along the Dr Schulhof Vilmos Promenade past the main entrance of the Lake Bath, the other entrance can be accessed by following the lake fence; it is about a 3 minutes' walk from the 'cherub' entrance. During the transitional period, visitors will be able to use the dressing rooms of the Festetics Bathhouse and, if necessary, the staff of the Lake Bath will also create temporary dressing rooms at several points of the bath, about which visitorswillbe informed. Despite the renovation work, the Lake Bath is not planning to close or temporarily shut down, so you can expect to be able to enjoy the services of Lake Hévíz in the winter too.However, the spa staff would like to kindly ask for the visitors’ patience and understanding if the operating changing-rooms will be a bit more crowded during the winter, especially in the holiday season. By the time the open-air bath opens in May,hopefully, the cash desks of the main entrance, which now are closing, will be opened partially, or, depending on the number of visitors and the weather, the Deák Square entrance will be opened a little earlier in order to providean easier access to the open-air bath andthe summer changing-rooms. Visitors to the spa will also experience other work around the main entrance, as there will be public utility work in front of the main entrancein the spring, followed by a major promenade renovation, which is expected in the second half of next year.However, these works are not related to the renovation of the changing-room of Lake Bath.

The last sprint section of stage 3 runs through the middle of Hévíz (11.05.20) including the main street of the popular spa and wellness resort. Don't miss out the famous carnival doughnut either!           22 February | Traditional Pig Slaughter The Traditional Pig Slaughter and Charity is organized the community of the Farmers’ Market of Hévíz.The guests will have the chance to taste the traditional food and drinks which are served under this unique event.       28-29 March | Fair of Handmade Goods This weekend, Hévíz is hosting a fair full with handmade crafts made by local craftsmen and women.           12-13 April | Easter Fair of Handmade Goods The season starts with diverse programs in which you can get to how a typical Hungarian Easter is celebrated. Each day of the Easter Festival the visitors awaitwith fairs, playhouses and traditional food, of course.         30 April -1 May | Hévíz at the Turn of the Century The event, which was started in 2011, evokes the ‘golden years’ of Hévíz, a period that lasted from the 1860s to the 1930s. The town tries to recall the atmosphere of the palmy days of peace in every possible way during the event: organ-grinders wearing tails and top hat play music in the streets, ladies dressed in hoop skirt and hat walk in the flowering park leading to the thermal lake. The event will be opened by a costume parade accompanied with live music and dance, in the course of which the professions and trades of the period will be presented.   9-10 May | 5th Running Festival of Hévíz The runners who manage to run 4-14-21 km will not only get to experience a well-organised event but they also will be gifted T-Shirts, medals and an unforgettable experience! The half marathon can be done individually or in a relay.         11 May | Giro d'Italia in Hévíz One of the world's most famous bicycle races comes to Hungary! As part of the three-day-event, the race goes through Hévíz on 11 May. The race will be also accompanied by many programs organised in the city of Hévíz!           16 May | Flavius Day In Egregy (a district of Hévíz) next to the remains of the Roman villa, in a beautiful landscaped area, we recall the traditions of Roman times: gladiator fights, toga parades, ancient oracles, the fashion and hairstyle, as well as ancient board games. You can have a taste from the dishes and drinks of the period.       30 May - 1 June | Pentecostal Merriment and Fair During the four-day Pentecostal celebrations, we await the visitors of Hévíz with joyful programmes and activities. The tradition of electing the king and queen of Pentecost will also be evoked. During the festivities, don’t miss the Pentecostal fair and playhouse either.       14 June | XV. Lotus Retro Concours D'Elegance At the Lotus Retro Mobil Concours d'Elegance, precious and exotic collectibles from Hungary, Austria and Germany find their way to Hévíz. On Sunday in the large park of the Lotus Therme "high-gloss atmosphere", when the beautiful models of Mercedes, Lotus, Jaguar, Corvette, Cadillac or Porsche can be viewed and evaluated. During the weekend, guests will have the chance to taste the best beers from Hungary and abroad too!       25 July | St. Mary Magdalene Fair in Egregy The patron saint of the Árpád-age church in Egregy is St. Mary Magdalene. The parish feast is held in her honour on Mary Magdalene’s Day every year. Real festive atmosphere with arts and crafts fair, carousel, shooting gallery and excellent culinary offers are provided for the visitors.     1-2 August | Nostalgia Weekend At the nostalgia weekend, the centre of Hévíz will be filled with chamber ensembles, pianists recalling the atmosphere of old cafés, while couples are dancing the waltz all around. The visitors of the programmes can enjoy nostalgic melodies by candlelight at the terraces of coffee shops and restaurants.       19-23 August | 9th Wine Festival of Hévíz At the 9th wine festival of Hévíz, we await our guests with a cultural and culinary offer unique in the region. Oldtimer Car Festival This year, the festival is organised for the third time, so we make an attempt to break the record of the biggest number of OT license plated participants! Besides this, you can expect music and many retro cards parading in the city!     12 September | Harvest of Egregy On the first weekend of September, the traditional harvest festivities is organised in the district of Egregy. The event starts off with the traditional harvest parade and continues with the harvest. Taste delicious wines with traditional music playing in the background.         26-27 September | Fair of Handmade Goods We await you with a weekend filled with local handmade crafts in September too!           7-8 November | St. Martin’s Day and Family Festival The popular goose race kicks off the St. Martin’s Day Family Festival every year. In addition to children’s programmes, handcraft workshops and folk playground await visitors. The new wine will be blessed in the Holy Spirit Church. It will be followed by a lamp-lit march from the church to the location of the festival. tartalom: + 1 Background: Every year since 2009, the "European Best Destination" competition has been held. In the course of the competition, the public can decide which city of the top 20 tourist paradises in Europe is worthy of the title of "best destination". The prize was established to promote European tourism and culture, in cooperation with more than 300 tourism partners and the EDEN network set up by the European Commission. This year's ‘European Best Destination 2020’ vote ended at noon on 5 th February 2020, with over 600,000 votes on Europe's top destinations. As Hévíz was competing with favoured cities such as Paris, Madrid or Vienna, even takingpart in this great competition was a great pleasure for Hévíz. The result: In this exclusive competition, Hévíz finished in the top fifteen, ahead of, among others Prague and Madrid. The 12th place that Hévíz achieved shows that Hévíz received the most votes among the spa towns in the nine-year history of the competition, so Hévíz is one of the greatest spa brands in Europe. During the competition, - in addition to domestic votes - many votes were received from German, English, Norwegian, Austrian, Russian and Asian travellers. This clearly proves that Hévíz is a prestigious tourist destination of these nations.     Its significance: Hévíz is not only famous for the world's largest natural thermal lake; but for years, more and more guests have been attracted by the high quality of hotel services, excellent gastronomy and leisure facilities, which are becoming increasingly popular with families and groups of friends. Hévíz boasts the title of European Capital of Well-Being in 2020, based on the results of the competition. Hévíz is listed all year round on Europe's most visited tourist website as a highly recommended destination: it has six million website visitors and ninety thousand Facebook followers. Tourist activity increased by an average of 15% in the settlements participating in the competition in previous years. We would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for Hévíz and by doing so strengthened Hévíz's position in this outstanding league. True to our promise, among those who participated in our game related to the voting, on 14th February, on Valentine's Day, we will draw a wellness holiday for a couple in Hévíz. tartalom: + 1 There have been many meetings between Hungarian and Italian organizers over the past few weeks. Eventually, the Hungarian organizing committee has requested that the event be held at a different time, bearing in mind the health and safety of the Hungarian people. Accordingly, the Grande Partenza, the opening event of Giro d'Italia in Hungary, scheduled for 9th-11th May 2020, has been postponed. At one of the biggest cycling races in Europe, a stage finale has been planned in Hévíz, which is of special interest. The town prepared for this with numerous events and fan programs, which are also going to be postponed. The new date of the competition has not been known yet but Hévíz is still ready to host the event and will join the bicycle race with the originally planned accompanying events later.

Based on many years of experience, every effort is being made to mitigate the risk of the epidemic, while keeping the safety of our guests and those living and working in Hévíz fully in mind. “At the same time, we cannot forget the guests who are still in Hévíz, as, Hévíz being a health resort, many guests stay here for a longer time to take treatments for their locomotive disorders and complaints. Under normal circumstances, accommodation, hospitality and catering facilities give priority to meeting high hygiene standards, for which they are now even more prepared. tartalom: + 1 With taking the right safety measurements, the Lake opens only its beach side for the time being. The Spa asks its visitors to follow the rules regarding hygiene and use only the showers which are located outside on the beach.  The indoor areas are being sanitized continuously, but they are not open yet for guests. Lake Hévíz is in the unique situation that the 4.4 hectare of natural, clean thermal water constantly changes and cleans itself naturally due to its discharge rate of 410 litres per second. The temperature of the lake revolves around 30 °C as of right now, thanks to the thermal springs inside the lake. This way outdoor swimming and bathing is really pleasant right now. Lake Hévíz is also surrounded by a 6.6-hectare forest, where guests coming to Hévíz can easily avoid crowds and be in the fresh air while enjoying themselves in the shadows of the wonderful swamp cypresses.     The Hotels Are Preparing to Open too Hotels in Hévíz are accepting reservations from Whitsun, however, most of the hotels will stay closed during the weeks before that.  Currently the staffs of the hotels are working behind closed doors; they are making everything in preparation for the arriving guests so they can enjoy their stay in the cleanest and safest environment. For the time being, the most important thing is safety. All the hotels do everything in their power to follow the safety rules made by the Hungarian Government and the statements released by the Hungarian Touristic Agency in their COVID guidebook. In Hévíz, there were no problems regarding tidiness in the hotels before the outbreak of the virus either, most restaurants and community centrums had already had hand sanitizers placed out. Currently they are working together to make buffet cafeterias 100% safe for the hotel guests: safety is important for all of us especially regarding the touch-free service and keeping the suggested social distance.   The Farmers’ Market of Hévíz and Other Attractions Since 4 May, Hévíz has started to revive: the terraces of the restaurants and cafés are starting to open up, the windows of stores are being reorganised. Parks and playgrounds are also open, the new plants and flowers for the summer were also set up in the flowerbeds. Soon you will be able to find your favourite ice cream at the best ice cream parlour in the city, at the Rózsakert Restaurant. Soon the best wines will be also available at the cellars and restaurants at the Egregy vineyards. The Farmers’ Market of Hévíz is also open with the regular working hours three times a week; however, between 9 and 11 am only people over 65 years old can purchase the fresh fruits and vegetables. At the market, the use of face masks is compulsory! For the re-opening of the museums and the cinema we still have to wait. Events still cannot be organised, however, the local government is trying to find a solution so the streets of Hévíz can be filled up with music again with avoiding the big gatherings as well. The Tourinform Office of Hévíz is still only open via telephone or e-mail. The office is set to be open again in the second half of May, until then feel free to contact our collegaues who help guests gladly! The nearest is the ruins of Rezi Castle, located only 10 km away, which is an easy walk from Hévíz. A little further away, on Tátika Hill, there are also the remains of a castle in the middle of the forest. If you set off in the direction of Lake Balaton, you will reach Szigliget in 30 minutes, where not only the ruins of a castle but a complex, interactive medieval knight's castle offer a great program for families. What is more, the castle has been renovated in recent months, so it will reopen on 20th June. You can also take a day trip to Sümeg or Nagyvázsony or you can even climb the ruins of Csobánc Castle. If you are looking for the nearest small castle ruin, you will find it on the Main Square (Fő tér) in Keszthely, in the Castle Garden next to the Church of Our Lady of Hungary. ACTIVE ADVENTURES FOR ADRENALINE ADDICTS If you look for active experiences outdoors, and besides that, come to Hévíz with children, you do not have to go far for a little adventure. Children and adults can test their courage on the ropes course in the Tavirózsa Adventure Park located on the confines of Hévíz.
