As a result, the skin will be firmer and more elastic.   Jogging Jogging combines all the benefits of walking; it conditions the heart, improves muscle tone and strength, relieves stress, and can help with a variety of health problems, such as osteoporosis, heart disease and arthritis.   Kneipp steps You tread cold water stepping on pebbles placed on the bottom of a tub while walking around. The legs are lifted out of the tub at every step so that the cold water and the warm air will provide the contrasting bath character. The pebbles gently massage the reflex zones of the soles initiating a certain regulatory process.     Laconium It is a cool version of the Finnish sauna. The temperature may not exceed 55 C° and the degree of humidity is insignificant. tartalom: + 1 On 29th July 2015, the European Commission signed the grant contract, in the framework of which a 15 months' health tourism development was launched. The international project „OFF TO SPAS” is implemented in the cooperation of 7 partners of 4 countries. Hungary is represented by Pannon University (project coordinator), Tourism Non-profit Ltd. of Hévíz and the Municipality of County Zala, further members of the consortium are: AGE Platform Europe AISBL, Consiliul Judetean Covasna, Asociatia Pentru Dezvoltarea Turismului in Judetul Covasna and Travel Specialist Group Sweden AB. The aim of the project is to create a Central European transnational balneological tourism product for the older (senior) age group that extends the market of medicinal and thermal tourism to those sending areas where the demand for medicinal and wellness tourism related to natural waters can be increased.  Objectives of the project: to create a tourism product network that takes into account the special needs of the older age group, to improve the number and quality of the cooperation between the members of the tourism value chain and the organisations/associations of the elderly, to increase the turnover of low or middle season in terms of tourism in order to improve the effectiveness and competitiveness of tourism SMEs, to promote tourism as the strategy of active and healthy aging, to increase the professionalism of the tourism service providers in order to ensure the sustainability and self-development of the project. For the sake of all these, the following main activities will be implemented by the partners: Conducting a research in support of the health tourism development: market study concerning the elderly, surveys, comparative analyses, researches testing the market of the elderly and balneological issues, involving the membership of AGE Platform as well as the customers of the travel agency Travel Specialist Group Sweden AB, Creating a balneological tourism product network, - through the example of Hévíz and Covasna - which offers location- and market-specific medical and health assistance programs for the older age group,   Discussion forums, workshops related to the project for the purpose of network building and partnerships, and exchanging good practices,  Extensive marketing communication, which addresses decision makers and potential travellers, and conforms to the special needs of target groups and to tourism trends. The first step of the project ending in September 2016 is the two days' meeting starting today in Hévíz, during which the participating partners coordinate the main tasks and actions.  The application was submitted in December 2014 by the partners for the European Commission's invitation to tender with the identification number „COS-TFLOWS-2014-3-15”. Due to the application prepared on high professional standards, the European Commission considered the project eligible for funding with the originally requested budget – with EUR 208,565 EU funds and EUR 69,533 deductibles. At the European Union level, a total of 10 application won support in the calling for tender.

It comprises drinking cure with such waters, inhalation, mud treatment, carbonated baths and medicinal baths. Caldarium This is one of the facilities used in Roman baths, which means hot watery bathroom. The caldarium, usually tiled or covered with marble, in which people usually stay for 30 to 40 minutes, poses less burden on human organism than a sauna due to the lower temperatures (40-50 °C) and the humidity of the air (70-100%).   Chinese massage The Chinese massage may be considered as a kind of acupuncture combined with stretching. The massage may consist of various parts. It may refer to the spine massage and the Chinese head massage aiming at the head and neck. During the massage the acupuncture points are treated as well. The Chinese massage also includes the stretching of muscles or joints.   Cleopatra-bath Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen did her best to fight ageism; she tried to make her skin soft and healthy by having a bath with donkey milk in it. The beauty care products named after her suggest having a bath with a mixture of milk and vegetable oil. These products are based on the conditioning and nourishing effects that milk and vegetable oils have on the skin.     Fango Mud pack from ground volcanic rock is applied to a certain part or the whole of the body. It is a pressure point technique, which is based on Ying and Yan, Zen Buddhism and the Five Elements theory; it is similar to acupuncture. During the treatment also palms, elbows, knees and soles also used for stronger pressurizing besides the fingers. No special equipment or oil required for the treatment. The aim of Shiatsu therapy is to restore the energy flow of the body and to maintain balance. Energy shall be decreased at areas with high energy level, and energy shall be increased at areas with low energy level. The pressure point technique is complemented by pulling, tensioning and relaxing exercises. It is beneficial for the blood and lymphoid circulation and for the muscular system. Shiatsu therapy is very successfully applied in the case of visceral diseases. During the therapy the aim is to restore the oxygen saturation of the blood and to improve the oxygen supply of the organs. The treatment strengthens the immune system, improves metabolism operation, refreshes the mind and mental tension is eliminated. Shiatsu helps the body to kick-start its self-healing processes.     According to Eastern philosophies the human body’s energy system consists of the followings: ether body astral or emotional body causal or spiritual body Energy flow is the strongest through the spiritual channel. The seven main centres located in the spiritual channel are called the chakra. Interesting facts Shiatsu was developed from anma, which was the Japanese version of the Chinese massage. It used to be practised by the blind for the treatment of general illnesses. In the western world it has started to spread for the last 20 years.

In the middle ages the significance of massage fell into background due to the influence of the Church, which was against corporality. Nowadays massage has been rediscovered through scientific research. The word massage comes from the Greek „massein” word, which means kneading. Swedish massage, which is the most frequently applied massage technique was developed and pioneered by Per Henrik Ling. Eastern healing has appreciated the beneficial impact of massage for a very long time. Nowadays the western medicinal science is aware that massaging is not only a physical process, but it has also got an important physiological and mental impact.   Impacts During the treatment blood circulation and lymphoid circulation are stimulated, pulse rate per minute and blood pressure is changed; metabolism, body temperature and breathing also change, while excretion is intensified and as a result detoxification is increased, furthermore it also has an impact on the nervous system. Application of strong stimulating grips has a stimulating effect, increasing the activity of the body. Calming grips ensure the release and relaxation of the body. During massage several related vital changes take place within the human body. A good massage brings the body to a mental level similar to meditation, which has a positive impact both on patient and masseur.

Among the basic ingredients there are also onion, tomato, and from the meats beef and veal. The dishes are seasoned with pepper, tarragon, thyme, cumin or sage. A rightful place is reserved for the garlic, too.

Apart from the dishes that you can taste everywhere in the country, each region has its characteristic plates, typical for a given area.  Dödölle – local specialty In the a charming city of Hévíz, located 200 km to the south west from Budapest, just 6 km away from the Balaton lake, reigns a dish called dödölle. It is a kind of potato noodles made of potatoes and flour, fried in the lard with onion. They are sometimes served with sour cream. The classic recipe is simple, however you can often meet different variations – with spinach, cottage cheese, celery or beetroot. There are also sweet versions – with apple and cinnamon or strawberries. A feast in Hévíz When you come to Hévíz you need to visit the places where you can taste a wonderful cuisine based on the local products. Family restaurants and old cellars are located by the vineyards. In the Hungarian taverns Hungarian specialties are served by the sounds of Gipsy music, just a few hundred meters from the beautiful lake, tempts with the traditional, modern, fish and vegetarian dishes. It is worth mentioning that Hévíz is most of all famous for the biggest biologically active thermal lake in the world, in which you can swim. The wine from the Balaton region The traditions of wine production in this region date back to the Roman era, when at the Egregy hill (which is in the borders of the town) the viniculture was introduced. In the time of the Arpad dynasty the production was continued which is proven by an official certificate dated back to 1221. The climate is favorable for the cultivation of grapevines, and there are excellent white wines produced here, as well as you can taste red wines, too. The most recognized grape variety includes Olaszrizling (Italian Riesling), Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) and Rizlingszilváni (Müller Thurgau). There are also Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) and different kinds of Muskotály (Muscat). The most typical for the region is Cserszegi fűszeres. It is resistant to frost, its wine is full-bodied and has a spicy taste. The wines made from this vine were many times awarded. tartalom: + 1 In 2015, Hévíz created its own trademark for the accreditation of therapies based on Lake Hévíz's medicinal properties. The effectiveness of Traditional Hévíz Therapy, which has excellent results in alleviating musculoskeletal complaints, is proven by the 220-year-old history of thermal medicine, thousands of recovered guests and modern medical research. In addition to bathing in medicinal water, the basic elements of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy are mudpack and weight bath. As an additional treatment, drinking medicinal water from the drinking fountain is part of the package as well as various massages, movement therapies, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Ideally, the duration of the cure is two weeks. Institutions that have the necessary professional and medical background, as well as the medical infrastructure for the therapy (e.g. thermal water pool, weight bath, facilities for carrying out mud packs), are eligible for the trademark. Every two years, a professional committee verifies whether the requirements are met. On 15th February 2019, three experienced rheumatologists, Dr Annamária Bergmann, Dr Gábor Domokos and Dr Sándor Csordás, personally visited the institutions providing the Therapy to check the infrastructure and staffing conditions of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy. tartalom: + 1   23rd February | Carnival of Hévíz Traditional Pig Slaughter and Charityorganized the community of the Farmers’ Market of Hévíz.The guests will have the chance to taste the previously mentioned traditional food and drinks. On the afternoon begins the masquerade parade, the burning of a straw figure to drive the cold and you can buy from the famous carnival doughnut.      19th-22nd April | Easter Fair of Handmade Goods The season starts with diverse programs in which you can get to how a typical Hungarian Easter is celebrated. Each day of the Easter Festival the visitors awaitwith fairs, playhouses and traditional food, of course.       1st-5th May | Hévíz at the Turn of the Century The event, which was started in 2011, evokes the ‘golden years’ of Hévíz, a period that lasted from the 1860s to the 1930s. The town tries to recall the atmosphere of the palmy days of peace in every possible way during the event: organ-grinders wearing tails and top hat play music in the streets, ladies dressed in hoop skirt and hat walk in the flowering park leading to the thermal lake. The event will be opened by a costume parade accompanied with live music and dance, in the course of which the professions and trades of the period will be presented.   11st May | Flavius Day In Egregy (a district of Hévíz) next to the remains of the Roman villa, in a beautiful landscaped area, we recall the traditions of Roman times: gladiator fights, toga parades, ancient oracles, the fashion and hairstyle, as well as ancient board games. You can have a taste from the dishes and drinks of the period.     19th May | 4th Running Festival of Hévíz The runners who manage to run 4-14-21 km will not only get to experience a well-organised event but they also will be gifted T-Shirts, medals and an unforgettable experience! The half marathon can be done individually or in a relay.       5th-8th June | Pentecostal Merriment and Fair During the four-day Pentecostal celebrations, we await the visitors of Hévíz with joyful programmes and activities. The tradition of electing the king and queen of Pentecost will also be evoked. During the festivities, don’t miss the Pentecostal fair and playhouse either.       16th June | XIV. Lotus RetroConcours D'Elegance At the Lotus Retro Mobil Concours d'Elegance, precious and exotic collectibles from Hungary, Austria and Germany find their way to Hévíz. On Sunday in the large park of the Lotus Therme "high-gloss atmosphere", when the beautiful models of Mercedes, Lotus, Jaguar, Corvette, Cadillac or Porsche can be viewed and evaluated. You can further expect a grill tent, kid’s programs.     21st-23rd June | Angels and Vagabonds All-arts Festival including International Colony of Artists, Cinematic Art Symposium, Street Music and Street Art Festival and the Long Night of Museums Visitors will be offered lively and colourful programmes in the centre of Hévíz during the three-day event. The multiplicity of music (country, pop, dixie, guitar, accordion and brass band music, relaxing music, folk music, as well as jazz and pop), along with showmen, living statues, acrobats, street artists walking on stilts, painters, draughtsmen make the weekend fascinating and unforgettable.   6th-7th July | Flavours, Dances, Good Neighbours including Folklore and World music Festival In the course of this two-day festival, in addition to the wonderful treasure of the Hungarian folk dance, folk music and cuisine, the folk art and gastronomy of the neighbouring countries will also be introduced, as it is referred to in the title.     20th July | St. Mary Magdalene Fair in Egregy The patron saint of the Árpád-age church in Egregy is St. Mary Magdalene. The parish feast is held in her honour on Mary Magdalene’s Day every year. Real festive atmosphere with arts and crafts fair, carousel, shooting gallery and excellent culinary offers are provided for the visitors.     3rd-4th August | Nostalgia Weekend At the nostalgia weekend, the centre of Hévíz will be filled with chamber ensembles, pianists recalling the atmosphere of old cafés, while couples are dancing the waltz all around. The visitors of the programmes can enjoy nostalgic melodies by candlelight at the terraces of coffee shops and restaurants.       10th-11th August | Fair of Handmade Goods This weekend, Hévíz is hosting a fair full with handmade crafts made by local craftsmen and women.         16th-20th August | 8th Wine Festival of Hévíz At the 8th wine festival of Hévíz, we await our guests with a cultural and culinary offer unique in the region. In addition to the wineries of Zala County, the representatives of the prominent Hungarian wine regions will also introduce themselves in the ‘wine street’ of Festetics Square. The lovers of wines can enjoy wonderful drinks under centuries-old sycamore trees in a pleasant atmosphere.   7th September | Harvest of Egregy On the first weekend of September, the traditional harvest festivities is organised in the district of Egregy. The event starts off with the traditional harvest parade and continues with the harvest. Taste delicious wines with traditional music playing in the background.         21st-22nd September | Fair of Handmade Goods We await you with a weekend filled with local handmade crafts in September too!           9th-10th November | St. Martin’s Day and Family Festival The popular goose race kicks off the St. Martin’s Day Family Festival every year. In addition to children’s programmes, handcraft workshops and folk playground await visitors. The new wine will be blessed in the Holy Spirit Church. It will be followed by a lamp-lit march from the church to the location of the festival.
