tartalom: + 1 The first test flight of a hot air balloon carrying people was carried out on October 19, 1783 near Paris. And on November 21, the first public flight took place, which then lasted 25 minutes and approx. We managed to cover 7.5 km. The balloon rose with the help of heated air, which was produced by burning straw and dry wood on a grate under the balloon dome. It only took a few days, however, and on December 1 of the same year, the first hot-air balloon filled with hydrogen took off in the vicinity of Paris, rising to a height of 550 meters. Unfortunately for them, upon landing, the local residents were so horrified that they immediately destroyed the "evil structure". The practical spread of balloons was given a big boost by the American Civil War of 1861-63, when the first balloon air force was created. Hot air balloon flights were also of great importance in terms of scientific experimentation. As early as 1784, scientific tests and experiments were carried out in flight. What was investigated: changes in temperature and air pressure, air composition, gravity, examination of living beings, meteorological processes. In July 1803, the first strictly scientific flight took place in Hamburg. Physicists flew for 5 and a half hours, up to an altitude of 7,000 meters, without oxygen bottles, in excruciating pain. Studies are carried out regarding cloud and air electricity, sound propagation, the boiling point of water and the evaporation process. The hobby and sports balloons used today, as well as the hot air balloons operated for tourist purposes, rise or fall according to the long-proven hot air principle, with the big difference that the hot air is now not achieved by burning dry branches, but by propane bottles.The Balaton Ballooning team told us interesting facts about ballooning We asked the pilots of Hungary's largest hot air balloon what they know about the huge balloon they fly around Hévíz and Kis-Balaton. Pilots Péter Kollár and Attila Aklan control Balaton Ballooning's hot air balloon from spring to the end of October, almost every day when the weather permits. We received answers to a number of questions, and here are the following, briefly and succinctly:TECHNICAL DATA What parts does a hot air balloon usually have?The main parts of hot air balloons are: basket, burner, dome, tension ropes, fuel (gas) tanks. In addition, the following are required for operation: fans for inflation, trailer for ground transport. Are there types of hot air balloons? If so, what are yours like?There are several types of balloons, Balaton Ballooning's Cameron A-375. The type is composed as follows: Cameron Ltd. is the manufacturer, A-type indicates the cut shape, the volume of the dome is 375,000 cubic feet (10,620 m3). The basket What is the size and weight of the basket and how many people can it fit?350x170 cm, 356 kg, 18 passengers + 1 pilot can travel in it. This is the largest used basket size at home. There are only 2 larger basket sizes, the largest can carry 27 people. The smallest is only 80x70 cm, weighs 55 kg and can accommodate only 1 person. What material is the basket made of?Sea reed woven on a metal and plastic frame. Can a basket have characteristics?Our basket is also unique, based on the plans of the chief pilot and the executive, it was made in the Ultramagic factory in Catalonia. It was developed for passenger flights, 5 and 4 people can travel in the right and left asymmetric passenger compartments. Each passenger has a space of 0.25 square meters as required by the EU. At the same time, it is unique in that it is also equipped with seat belts, which is rare because it is not mandatory. That's why only our basket is like this at home, but this is not typical in the world either. The dome How big is the dome?It has a volume of 10,620 m3 and a maximum load capacity of 3,401 kg - it can lift this much weight. When tensioned, it is as tall as a 10-story prefab house. It is 35 meters high, and its diameter at its widest point is 15 meters. This is the biggest balloon in Hungary. What material is the dome made of? Is it similar to what a spinnaker is for sailing ships, or a parachute for skydivers?Yes, it is a Hyperlast material. It has high tensile strength and can withstand 125 degrees Celsius without heat damage. Furthermore, the lower part at the burner head is made of Nomex flame retardant material. Why are there gaps in the dome circle?These are turning wheels, with the help of which the balloon can be turned 360 degrees along its longitudinal axis. Before landing, the pilot rotates the balloon to the landing side, and the balloon can also be rotated during flight, so that all passengers can see everything in a 360-degree panoramic view. How damage resistant is the dome?The Hyperlast material is a densely woven material with high tensile strength, so it is not fragile. What is the air temperature in the dome?Between 80 and 120 degrees, depending on whether we fly in cold (spring-autumn) or hot (summer) weather. What will happen to the dome when it is no longer in use? - Can this be used for something else?It will be scrapped. We can't use it for anything else. Fuel What kind of fuel does the balloon need?Propane gas, which is filled in special bottles for balloon flights. How much fuel do you need to fly?On average, 110-150 kg of propane gas is burned during a 1-hour flight. How heavy is the fuel at the beginning of the flight?The starting weight is 300 kg. How long is the fuel taken for?Sufficient for roughly 2.5 hours of flight time How much fuel is consumed depends on what?From the total weight of the passengers and how many degrees the outside air temperature is. Heavy passengers and 35 degree heat consumes a lot of gas. THE PILOTS AND THE STAFF How many people do your balloons have?In a hot air balloon, we distinguish between the air crew, who are the pilots, and the ground service crew. There is room for 1 pilot in the basket, take-off, landing, unpacking and transport are carried out by 4 people. What does a pilot need to know?European and Hungarian aviation laws, regulations and regulations. Historical knowledge (balloon flight). Theoretical foundations of balloon flight. I have flown 3,606 hours, 3,492 flights, I have been flying only with balloons for 38 years. Do the ground staff also need training?Appropriate driving license for the vehicles used to transport the balloon and passengers. Knowledge related to balloon flight: Ground preparation. Aviation knowledge. Radio management and distribution rules. Flight execution methodology. First aid, fire protection. OSH education. RISING, DESCENT, CHANGE OF DIRECTION How do you control a hot air balloon to how high it goes? which direction to fly?It all depends on the direction and speed of the wind. Wind blows in different directions and speeds at different heights. The direction and distance of flight depends on these stratospheric winds. By increasing or decreasing the temperature of the air in the balloon, the balloon can be raised to different heights in order to obtain a favorable wind. What makes take-off or landing difficult or complicated?Due to the strength of the wind, e.g. We cannot take off in case of a ground wind speed of 15 km/h. When landing, if the wind increases or changes. Is there a hot air balloon where you can control it better and fly on a fixed route?No, that's not really possible. There are characteristic wind directions resulting from geographical features that can be counted on, based on meteorological forecasts, but this cannot be called a planned, fixed route. In the past, there were bags filled with sand on the sides of the balloons, which were used to control the height. Is there still such a ballast in the hot air balloon?Only gas balloons fly with ballast. Gas balloons are filled with a gas that is lighter than air (e.g. hydrogen, helium or ammonia), the buoyancy of which lifts them up. The gas providing passive lift heats up in the sun and starts to rise uncontrollably, it cools down at night, its buoyancy decreases and the balloon will sink. There is no possibility of refilling in the air, so they carry sandbags as ballast. They can rise by scattering themselves from the sand, and sink by releasing gas. What is the highest altitude and the longest distance you have flown up and down?We were already flying at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Our furthest flight was from Hévíz to Noszlop. This is roughly a distance of 55 km as the crow flies. This distance with such a balloon is actually the unofficial Hungarian record. REGULATION Is there a law that regulates hot air ballooning? Who and how supervises who can fly, where and with what?The rules are laid down in the XCVII of 1995. Act on Aviation, is determined by the Department of Aviation Inspection Authority of the Ministry of Construction and Transport and the European Aviation Safety Agency. The pilot must have a valid professional service license and flight medical certificate for the given aircraft, and the balloon must have a valid airworthiness and registration certificate and insurance. Are there traffic rules that apply to hot air balloons?Yes. During daily flights, you can fly according to the airspace utilization plan issued by HungaroControl Magyar Légiforgalgi Szolgálat, taking into account prohibited and restricted airspaces. What determines how far a hot air balloon can fly safely? - are there statistics on how many times you have flown with this balloon?There is a technical exam after every 100 hours flown. During this, the tensile strength of the dome material is also reviewed. If it can withstand a breaking load of 14 kg, it can be flown. We are currently on flight 841. (September 18, 2023) OTHER INTERESTS How often do hot air balloon accidents happen?Since the balloon is a simple structure that works on a simple principle, accidents are not common. What happens if someone gets altitude sickness? How fast can you land?Passengers don't usually get sick. If so, I have cold mineral water, aspirin, and candy. Quick landing is not possible. Therefore, we do not carry passengers with circulatory, locomotor, or psychiatric problems, or those who are under the influence of alcohol or any other mind-altering substance. Is there competition for hot air balloons?Yes, but only for smaller balloons. Ours is not a competition balloon. What clothes should passengers fly in?When getting in and out of the balloon basket, it is more practical to use closed sports shoes and long pants, they can also be useful due to the uncertain landing site. Due to the possible wind, it is not recommended to wear hats that are easily blown away by the wind, and since we usually fly in the evening, at sunset, it is worth bringing a jacket or sweater with you even in the summer. As you go up, how does the temperature change?Moving away from the surface, the average temperature decreases. The decrease is 1 °C per 100 meters in dry air and 0.65 °C in moist air. You can sometimes hear that there are hot air balloon expeditions on extreme routes - what are the main differences compared to hot air ballooning?Hot air balloon expeditions (crossing the ocean, circumnavigation, arctic) use special balloons, and there are also mixed-use ones (helium and hot air balloons at the same time). Janett and I run across the wooden bridge from the parking lot, trying to catch the last bit of an immensely beautiful sunset. The flaring red, and rather huge disk of the sun, is just dipping beyond the horizon to the West. A feeling of stillness floods through us, much like the little waves gently lapping against the lake shore in front of us. I take a look at Janett. My dear friend is just the same: After both of us have taken the last photographs, there is nothing left but to enjoy the peace of the moment. … Talking about Hévíz is like talking about the mighty stage of nature that surrounds it. A place where the water buffalo roams. Where the famous, nearby Balaton lake has closed for winter, pulling another lake centre stage: The steaming hot lake of Hévíz. Yes, steam rises as we approach the spa town of Hévíz. “So where exactly are you headed to in Hungary?”, my friend Gaby asks me ahead of my trip. “Oh, Hévíz”, she sighs, visibly pleased: “What a beautiful spot. Ursula and I have been there many times … You will like it for sure!” Travelling to Hévíz from Vienna, about a three hour trip southeast of the Austrian capital all the way into Western Hungary, already exudes a feeling of relaxation. There are no fast lanes or highways in this part of the country, so all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the landscape around you. “You are lucky”, our German driver Volker smiles: “I go to Hévíz at least once a year. So glad we all decided to go on the same dates!” Janett and I have found Volker through a rideshare platform called “BlaBlaCars”, popular in Germany as a perfect alternative to trains, buses or taking your own car. Nice. Hévíz, then. As we arrive by the lake, the setting sun paints the rising pearls of steam with the last bits of colours for the day. “But what the … is this!?”, I gasp, suddenly torn from my slumber in the backseat of Volker’s car. In front of me, dozens of people are swimming in a natural lake obviously pleasant to bath in, despite the outside temperature being close to zero degrees. Mother Nature herself provides the energy for heating the healing sulphur waters. Quite the story: Lake Hévíz, a pleasant 26°C warm, is filled with healing source waters that lie buried about 900 metres below the Earth’s surface  … … framed by flaring fall colours such as these trees, an image that has me travel right back to the beautiful “Indian Summer” in Canada ..! Hévíz is a spa town rich in tradition … … their healing mineral and sulphur waters used throughout various spa & health institutions, and wellness hotels such as the prestigious NaturMed Hotel Carbona here … … a hotel that also offers exciting treatments such as the “Cryo-Sauna”: Janett volunteers to being exposed to -170°C for a very short time, said to stimulate your circulation and give you a boost of energy! Janett … We are waiting for your verdict on your travel blog! That day, I decide to keep my clothes on and only pose for a funny photograph in front of Lake Hévíz! Hévíz, what a discovery. In my memory, I can still feel the healing waters giving my entire skin a healthy, nutritious hug … … every evening, Janett and I are off for an hour or two of spa-stillness at the Kolping family hotel in Hévíz, perfect for both the kids and families as well as the odd “tired-crashing travel blogger” looking to unwind. The entire accommodation area is made up of single bungalows with reed roofs, adding to a familiar feeling of comfort from across the border, in the Austrian Burgenland province. And everyone out here speaks German! For a multi linguist like myself, it is almost a shame I speak no Hungarian whatsoever in return, but hey: Hospitality, appreciation of nature, and the good food & drinks we find here with our new Hungarian friends also speak a language of their own. Check this out. Talking about similarities between Western Hungary and Eastern Austria, one cannot fail to notice the food: Paprika goulash time it is – an all-time favourite on both sides of the border … … where the surrounding park beckons for a stroll (or a sit) … … modern holiday bungalows await … … as well as a chance to dive into the area’s hot mineral water pools each night. Around Hévíz, you will find prairie buffalos next to imperial castles and bustling farmers’ markets. Quite the Hungarian heritage & charm! I love visiting (farmers’) markets. All around the world, they always teach you about an important aspect of the local cultural history. What do people eat? What do they sell? Which “language do they speak”? How is the atmosphere? What is being offered? Who strikes up a bargain? And how? Janett and I decide to take on a feast of rather delicious “Kürtöskálacs”; a kind of sugar-bread-roll that goes perfectly with two glasses of hot, mulled wine. Beautiful second breakfast at Hévíz market. Just a little later, our local insider Krisztina drives us over into neighbouring Keszthely, famous for its imperial palace as well as being right by the shore line of Lake Balaton. Both places are worth returning to in the spring or summer, as we imagine all the green spaces full of flowers, happy vacationists in T-Shirts and us in summer dresses ..! At the same time, it is rather nice walking around without the crowds now .. The following is a list of travel tips on where to go once you are here: Hévíz market: Definitely worth your while … … where we recommend you to try delicious Hungarian sweet bread, and hot wine if you wish. Just about a twenty minutes drive and you will find yourself in front of Lake Balaton, Western Hungary’s famous steppe lake … … the advantage being only few visitors during low season … … same here at Keszthely Palace … … which we are able to visit almost exclusively on our own. Do visit the palace library: A magical spot filled with old books some of which are many centuries old ..! And if you, like us that day, wish to freshen up a little … … consider heading to Télikert Restaurant: Great food, friendly staff & a generous, urban flair here at Lake Balaton. If pure nature is what you prefer … … nature, horses, and romance … … then go visit the local buffalo farm, where you can learn a thing or two about the noble prairie dwellers and appreciate the local landscape around you! tartalom: + 1 The Bobo Fun Park is more than a regular adventure park. This is the perfect place for both children and adults to have some fun or blow off steam. The fun park is also a remarkable venue to organise birthday parties, dates or team-building days! The Bobo Fun Park has opened its gates on 14 June 2021. The Fun Park can be found in Alsópáhok, next to Hotel Kolping. If you are looking for some active leisure time or your children need some place to play... this place has everything in the 3000 m2 big hall! The fun park is located in an indoor facility which makes it perfect to visit during rainy days as well. The park is open for everyone over 6 years old.     THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE ENTERING You can buy two kinds of tickets: one from 10 am to 2 pm and another from 3 pm to 7 pm. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the venue as well. You can arrive anytime but you have to leave the park at 2 pm and 7 pm. Between 2 pm and 3 pm and after 7 pm the crew of the park cleans up and also sanitizes the venue so children could play in a nice and tidy environment. At the moment the park can only be visited with immunity/vaccination cards over 18 years old.     THINGS YOU SHOULD LEAVE AT HOME AND THING YOU WILL NEED It is strictly forbidden to bring in food or drinks with you so the park could remain as clean as possible. You can have some refreshments and snacks at the café of the fun park. When you first enter the park, you have to purchase a pair of grip socks (non-slip socks). You can keep these socks and bring them with you next time. If you want to try out the climbing walls as well, you should bring a pair of indoor shoes which have clean and light-coloured soles. Before entering you have to fill in a declaration of liability form. Under 10 years old, children can enter only with an adult, between 10-18 they should have a statement of consent from their parents. Come to the Bobo Fun Park and enjoy yourself!

The competition took place on July 7 in the restaurant of the Hotel Spa Hévíz with the participation of an expert jury. Our jury was not mistaking, since they truly got the best: the Aszófőer Welschriesling by Fodorvin was again selected as the winner of the Italian Riesling category at the Parliament's Wine Chest in October  2021 from among 218 wines. The family cellar of the Fodorvin winery was built in 1858 in Aszófő, in the Vörösmáli vineyard, where they currently manage 9 hectares as a family business. The reductively produced wine has a pronounced greenish-yellow color, and its aroma is dominated by citric and vegetable notes. The full taste is complemented by a pleasant acidity. It can currently also be purchased in the Hévíz Tourinform office with the label “Wine of the City of Hévíz 2021”.   Exceptional menus and courses In mid-November, the restaurants in Hévíz will prepare more than just special dishes with the winning wine. These delicacies in the Platán restaurant will include, for example, the foie gras ragout with forest mushrooms and Aszófőer Welschriesling on a crispy yeast plait, as well as the crispy leg of goose with sage and rosemary potatoes and apple slices braised in Hévíz city wine. In the NaturMed Hotel Carbona's buffet menu - which is not only open to hotel guests - you can try, for example, a sauerkraut soup with smoked meat, dill and Aszófőer Welschriesling. There will also be a goose stomach ragout with a creamy mushroom sauce, which has been perfumed with Aszófőer Welschriesling. He happily agreed to join our charity concert event which is naturally for a good cause: the offerings made at the concert will be entirely donated to the children living in the Subcarpathean area of Ukraine. László Kiss the dean and vicar of Hévíz was also happy to present the Holy Spirit Church as location, and he will also help to deliver the donations to Ukraine through the Catholic Charity Service.   The programme of the special event will be: Bach: Prelude and fugue in B minor Pachelbel: Chaconne in F minor Mozart: Fantasia in F minor Franck: Prelude, Fugue & Variation in B minor Liszt: Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H   The concert will start at 7 pm on 19 March in the Holy Spirit Church in Hévíz. The arena has a morning and an afternoon game time, and you can choose from two types of tickets, depending on how committed you are. Climbing walls, trampolines, ninja track, indoor rope course, etc. It's a great experience for adults, even without children. Who do we recommend? For anyone who likes to move, crawl and climb, whether as a family, with small children or with friends. tartalom: + 1 The scenic beauty of Lake Hévíz and the western corner of Lake Balaton are inviting nature lovers to explore their own freedom: the six-kilometre-long Hévíz-Keszthely cycle path starts in the forest next to the thermal lake and leads directly to the 204-kilometer Balaton cycle route . Those who cycle along the northern shore of Lake Balaton must discover the medieval castle ruins and the many volcanic hills all around the Szigliget peninsula (approx. 30 km).   From Balatongyörök (15 kms from Hévíz) you can also travel by ship with your bike and cross the Lake over to Balatonmáriafürdő which is located on the southern shores of Lake Balaton. From there it is another 30 kilometers back to Hévíz. Fenékpuszta with its Roman ruins or the Kis-Balaton National Park with the visitor centers, the internationally known bird reserve and the buffalo reserve are also ideal stops along the long ride. If you take the southern route on the Balaton cycle route from Keszthely, you can also head directly to the Kis-Balaton (approx. 15 km). We would also like to reccomend another cycle tour which is about 30 kilometers long and leads northwest of Hévíz through the Zala Valley. Along the way, beautiful viewpoints, sights, small wine cellars and the so called csárdas invite you to stop and admire the hidden beauties of the region.   The breathtaking beauty of Transdanubia with its gentle curves between the Bakony forest and the Keszthely Mountains, the hills of Somogy and Zala are also known for the many hiking routes and natural attractions. 20 kms west of Hévíz, as part of the Balaton Uplands National Park can be found the five-kilometer-long stalactite cave, called Csodabogyós. About 30 kilometers northeast of Hévíz, a the small town can be found, called Tapolca which has one of the most breathtaking attractions of the region. In the Cave Lake of Tapolca you can take rowing boat trips under the city. Wine hikers must travel to Szigliget which is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Next  to Szigliget, Badacsony is also a great place for wine lovers. The Badacsony witness mountain has a volcanic origin which gives an extravagant taste to the wines served there. Welschriesling and Pinot Gris vines are the most notable wines of the region, which you should definitely try while stopping there. Hévíz Buffalo Duathlon The spring season was opened by the Hévíz Buffalo Duathlon competition on March 2nd in Hévíz, with more than 220 enthusiastic participants who rowed 10 kilometers on the Hévíz stream and then ran back to Hévíz on the shores of the world-famous spa lake to receive their finishing medals.   March 29 – April 1. Easter Whirlwind in Hévíz In connection with the Easter holiday round, we are waiting for guests with crafts, stalls, a playhouse and musical programs throughout the weekend. During the weekend, the following will perform: Chanson Brass, Márton Palkovics, Vagabond Ensemble, Anita Kun and Lajos Kovács, Gyöngyözön, Start 40 Band. The children will be entertained by Playhouse and Game Park. The celebratory mass of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church and the Easter procession will take place on Saturday at 19:30.    April 5-6. Wind chaser  The organizers welcome young and old to the museum garden in Egregy. As part of the Wind Chaser program, you can count on creative and outdoor playful programs such as making pinwheels and flying paper kites. April 26-27. XII. Happy Peacetimes of Hévíz The Happy Peacetimes event in Hévíz, which closes April, cannot be missed this year either. On Friday we are tuning in to the event at the music pavilion on Schulhof Vilmos promenade.  May 17-20. Pentecost Picnic Visitors to Hévíz will not be without programs during the long Pentecost weekend. On Friday evening, from 7:00 p.m., the first Moonlight Bath of the year will be held in the Hévíz Lake Bath, which is also special, as such an event only takes place twice a year in Hévíz. On the weekend, guests are not only welcomed in Hévíz with musical programs and a flea market, but there will be another Super Hero program for families. May 26. VI. Intersport Hévíz Run The final chord of the spring programs is another sporty family day. For the 6th time this year, you can participate in the Hévíz Running Festival, where all members of the family can choose between different distances, individual and team categories. The programs are typically followed by great interest in the city, and the day full of competitions will end with a big concert.   SUMMER Fewer festivals can be expected in the summer, but our guests will not be left without programs. On Festetics Square and at the Musicpavilon, small concerts will entertain guests every week, and you can count on many smaller programs organized by service providers. June 21. Carry on the light! HelloHévíz Association welcomes participants to the traditional St. Midsummer's Eve program again this year. The torchlight parade is interspersed with musical programs, which will take place partly in the city center and partly in Egregy. July 11-14. Beer Promenade In July, beer and a bit of a retro atmosphere will once again play a central role in the city center. The selection of the tasty beer houses will be colored by beer skates, while the good atmosphere will be ensured by the following performers: DR BRS & Giccsparty, Sipos F. Tamás, Viktor Király, DJ SOMX, Kefir, Irish folk musicians and dancers, tango accordion band, Fáni Németh and his band, Auth Csilla, Fantasy Orchestra. In the afternoons, children are entertained by playhouses, crafts and children's shows. August 16-20. Hévíz Wine and Gastronomy festival Children's programs, fine wines, a good atmosphere and a diverse range of concerts await you at the Hévíz wine festival. Expected performers: The Biebers, Dér Heni, István Bősárkányi Társulat's adaptation of the king, Szalonna and his band, Happy Dixieland Band, Bácska Tambura band and Beatles memorial band - The organizers reserve the right to change the program! Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz The second and last moonlight bath of the year will be held in the Hévíz Tófürdő on what we hope will be a pleasantly warm Friday evening, September 13. Hot water is guaranteed in addition to atmospheric music.   September 20-21. Waterlily FolkFest The autumn festival period in Hévíz ends with the festival of folk dancers. The local children's and adult dance groups and invited performers dazzle the audience for two days with Hungarian folk music and authentic dances. tartalom: + 1 The Cross and the Star There is a small eye-catching building in Helikon Street in Hévíz. At its peaks, the symbols -a cross and a star - indicate that we are in a sacred place. There is also a column next to it erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with the inscription in Hungarian 'Az ige kőszálként megáll', which is a quote from Psalm 46 meaning 'That word above all earthly powers'.     Although only a few Protestant residents were registered in Hévíz, a collection was in procession for the construction of a Protestant church by the guests staying here in the 1930s. Bálint Szeghalmy also made a plan in 1941. The money donation was collected for its implementation, but the raging war stopped his dream to become real. Finally in 1993, Hévíz donated a plot of land to build a joint Lutheran-Reformed church. The Lutheran and Reformed congregations decided to implement the old plan of Bálint Szeghalmy in a slightly modernized version, prepared by architect Mihály Zoób.     The cross placed on the gable of the church was carved out of white marble at the contractor's own expense. The bell is a donation from the family of Károly Borsos. The foundation stone was placed down on June 16, 1997, and the first service was held on December 6, 1998. In 2003, the church was enriched with the winged altarpiece of the Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning tapestry artist Rózsa Polgár, and in 2004 with the organ designed and built by the organ builder Albert Miklós from Győr.   The Heart of Jesus Church, also known as Fradi Church In 1905, in the neighbourhood of the Roman ruins in the Egregy district of Hévíz, a two-storey bell tower was erected in place of the wooden belfry that had stood there for more than 100 years. In 1937, from local donations, the bell tower was expanded with another level and a tin roof. It was built in a Neo-Romanesque style with twin windows. Two bells were placed in the tower, a smaller one in honor of Mary Magdalene, which was cast in 1905, and a larger one in memory of the 16 heroic soldiers of Egregy who fell in World War I. The latter was made in 1937. In memory of the heroes, 16 linden trees were planted next to the tower, with a head tree at their base.     The bell tower was then renovated in 1990 with the voluntary donation of the people of Egregy, and on April 22, 1995 it was consecrated as the Church of the Heart of Jesus. And why is it called Fradi Church by the locals? Because the church, which was built largely from donations, received unexpected help, as the Ferencváros Gymnastics Club (a famous Hungarian football team from Budapest, nicknamed as Fradi) was also among the donors as well. Not only did the supporters make a financial contribution, but the team and club leadership were present at the consecration of the church. They even donated Fradi Relics to the church (most recently in 2017), which visitors of the church could see in a display case. In light of this, it is not surprising that the church, originally designed in blue and white, was eventually painted green and white which are the official colours of the football team.     Next to the church, a military memorial park was established in 2000 to commemorate the soldiers, civilians and Jewish victims of Egregy and Hévízszentandrás who fell in the First and Second World Wars. In doing so, 70 named headstones were erected. However, only 6 remained of the former 16 linden trees planted.     The Catholic Church on the shores of Lake Hévíz The western shore of Lake Hévíz (today's Schulhof Promenade and the area of ​​the hospital buildings) used to belong partly to the village of Szentandrás and partly to the bishopric of Veszprém. These areas became the property of the Festetics family in 1857 and 1868 through land swaps. Soon after the expansion of the bath land near the lake and landscaping could begin. The row of the completed (except for one building) 7 bath buildings was completed by a chapel. Its construction began in the 1870s and was consecrated in 1877.     We only have a few old engravings and postcards from the chapel, and we also found only a few photos of the inside. The chapel was finally demolished in 1964, when the most modern balneotherapy center in the country was built in its place in the most modern architectural style of the time. It is essentially the hospital’s indoor thermal bath, the Winter Bath, today’s Indoor Bath and Therapy Center, which was handed over in 1968.     The altar of the old Church is going to be exhibited soon on the renovated Shulhof Promenade.   The Holy Spirit Church The most modern and well-known church can be seen from the beginning of the main street leading to the city, as its blue peaks rise high. The church opposite the town hall, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people, was built according to the plans of János Bocskai and was consecrated on September 9, 1999 by retired Archbishop József Szendi.     Breaking into the seven (5 middle and 2 side) towers, the tower guides its visitors to the city from afar. The seven towers symbolize the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, while the pigeon motif symbolizing the Holy Spirit appears in several places on the building (even the shape of the church looks like a dove opening its wings if we look at the church from the air). On the one hand, in the floor plan of the church, in the design of the floor in front of the entrance, in the motifs of the interior wood and in the painting of the glass window above the main altar.     The interior of the church combines modern architecture and tradition, which is mainly emphasized by the beautiful wood paneling. Due to its good acoustics, it often hosts organ and acoustic concerts. The colorful windows, reminiscent of Gothic style, praise the work of Simon Endre, an artist from Hévíz. The torso on the wall of the sanctuary is a 200-year-old art treasure that was donated to the church. The bronze statue of Christ on the left side of the altar and the statue of Our Lady of Hungary wearing the crown on the right side are also the work of László Marton. The walls are decorated with fire enamel pictures. No bells were placed in the tallest tower for static reasons, but 2-2 bells were placed in the towers to the left and right. Two bells were brought here from 2 old churches in Hévíz, while the other two were donated by families in Hévíz. By the way, the church is mostly mentioned only by the locals and guests as "Blue Church".   The Synagogue, only a memory If we walk towards the Protective Forest of the Lake, next to the entrance to the Deák Square of the Lake Bath, a monument appears at the foot of the trees in the park. The synagogue of Hévíz used to stand here. The lines of the monument evoke the facade of the building of the former house of prayer, with names on it that were once taken from here to death. Among others, dr. Chief physician Vilmos Schulhof.     There were not many Jews living in Hévíz, it is estimated that there could be no more than 2-3% of the population, yet this community was strong enough to build a synagogue in 1933. It is a strange game of fate that the building survived both the Holocaust and the war fortunately, but by 1959 the religious life in Hévíz had ceased. As a result, the house of prayer was not used, its condition greatly deteriorated, so it was demolished in 1977. The monument, erected in 2000, in its simplicity commemorates the former synagogue on the one hand and the former local Jewry on the other, and the pebbles placed on it indicate that faith has survived.   Árpádian church in Egregy, the Church of St. Magdalene The exact time of construction of the church is unknown, it was probably built around mid-13th century. It is first mentioned in written records in 1341. The building was badly damaged in the 16-17th century, and was later renovated in the Baroque era in 1731. Fortunately, only the most necessary parts were repaired, so the medieval form of the church has been preserved. During this renovation, the interior and exterior decorative paintings, the elevation of the ship, and the vaults were also replaced. The first patron saint of the church was St. Catherine of Alexandria. After the rebuilding, it was rededicated and its new patron saint became St. Magdalene. Since then, the church has been restored several more times: in 1860, 1912, 1964-65, 1990 and 1991, and most recently in 2015.     On the south side of the church, we can find an open baroque door. The vault of the tower was renovated in the 18th century and is joined by a rectangular nave with a sanctuary. Inside the church, the only decorative element,  is the row of booths on the north wall. The wall painting of the church is not of medieval origin, but it shows respect for the folk elements. Inside the building, there is a fragment of a Romanesque baptismal font and a medieval consecrated cross.   Its tower has three floors and a rich design, with two and three twin windows opening on the levels. The tower is closed by a bucket helmet, which is stiffened by eight wooden beams. In terms of its foundations, it mainly preserved the forms of wooden architecture. Painted decorations and incised shapes have survived on the exterior surfaces. The church may have remained in this form because it lost its significance during the centuries. The former settlement was largely depopulated, the inhabitants moved a little further down the valley, so this church only served as a cemetery chapel. Therefore, it was not important to expand or transform it significantly.   An Orthodox church built in honor of the “Life-giving Source” icon of the Holy Mother of God The foundation stone of the Orthodox church was placed down on 27 December, 2019 in Hévíz. The church which is still under construction will be accessible from Ady Street.     Construction of the church began in the spring of 2020. As metropolitan Mark put it: their choice fell on Hévíz because here the healing of body and soul is possible at the same time, and because Hévíz boasts that Emperor Theodosius owed his life to the water of Hévíz and became one of the most influential in the Roman Empire according to an old legend. The church is based on the plans of the Ybl-awarded architect László Vánca. The 15x15 meter church is traditionally made of brick, with masterfully smoothed corners on its sending walls showing the asymmetrical relief niches, which are masterful combinations of modern and ancient motifs. The Orthodox tower helmet will be adorned with an eight-pointed gold-clad cross. lead: + 3 The project Be Ready (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy) addresses the climate change capacities in the Danube Region taking into account ecosystem-based approaches. The common challenge to be tackled is urban heat islands (UHI). The recent unprecedented heat waves demonstrate the acute need to strengthen the preparedness and adaptive capacity of the society to cope with impacts of climate change and foster resilience at city level.

tartalom: + 1 Be Ready aims to:          - provide local and regional authorities with research, assessment and operational instruments to better understand UHI, its drivers, and effects;          - co-create, test and validate jointly developed solutions to mitigate the UHI effects in cities;          - support partner cities to develop and adopt action plans for increased resilience to UHI effects with specific actions to promote green, blue, or white measures. The novel approach to be taken by the project – “green acupuncture” - will allow the partners, both cities and knowledge partners, to take targeted, small but powerful, context-based measures to deal with UHI in critical urban areas. City pilots will test solutions in three areas: “green acupuncture” (vegetation-based interventions); “white acupuncture” (based on innovative surfaces and materials); and “blue acupuncture” (novel uses of water resources). The project main outputs include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for UHI risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at city level; co-designed solutions for tackling UHI, tested and peer reviewed in urban environment by 12 pilot cities; a common strategy for improving the climate change preparedness and resilience aimed at local and regional authorities in the Danube region; action plans and transformative strategic outlooks for the participating partners; policy recommendations; a virtual training program with SPOCs; awareness campaigns in 12 countries over the 30-month period. Key for Be Ready is the ClimateSandbox approach that will support participating cities to define and deploy climate-oriented innovations – both on the technological and service side (i.e. content) and on the policy, administrative and spatial planning side (i.e. enabling conditions), through the innovative digital Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool. The project's ambition is to showcase to decision-makers and other stakeholders across Europe the benefits of adopting solutions in which the environment, simplicity, and aesthetics play a key role as value-generating agents as well as community engagement drivers, throughout the co-design process, acting both at levels of solution definition, development, and deployment. lead: + 3 During the long weekend at the end of May, guests coming to Hévíz can enjoy really colorful and varied programs.

tartalom: + 1 First, the Hévíz Entrepreneurs' Association organized a program not only for guests, but also for locals. Their guest is protocol expert Ibolya Görög, who will give a talk on "Behavior as a guest and host" on the afternoon of May 17 from 5:30 p.m. his performance in the City Hall's Concert Hall. The program is held in Hungarian. The performance is about to end and we can already prepare for this year's first moonlight bath, which will also be held on May 17th at Lake Hévíz.
