lead: The thermal lake in Hévíz is a unique one in the world. Its waters rich in mineral elements have medicinal properties, and the hot water source makes it possible to take bath all year long. A visit to Hévíz is not only a wonderful nature, but also priceless moments of relaxation.
tartalom:+ 1 Not everybody knows this wonder of the nature. A lake in Hévíz is located just 200 km from Budapest. Is it worth driving by car or buying a cheap flight ticket to visit this place where time goes slowly, and the beauty of nature surprises at every step. A miraculous lake The lake in Hévíz is the biggest biologically active thermal lake in the world in which you can swim. Its surface reaches 4,4 ha and the water temperature oscillates between 24°C in winter and 36°C in summer. These conditions are very favorable for all year long baths as well as for the cultivation of tropical water lilies. They make the reservoir look like the one from a fairy tale. The cleanness of the lake’s water is an asset. 410 liters of hot water stream from the underground source every second, so it is completely replenished every three days. However, the medicinal properties of the lake are its biggest advantage. They were recognized already by the Romans in the 2 century A.D. One of the legends says that Mother Mary wrung / created a spring in Hévíz by the appealing prayer of a Christian nurse for the health of the Roman emperor, Flavius Theodosius. There is a natural peat at the lake’s bed and the water is rich in mineral elements like calcium, magnesium, sulphur. Idyllic scenery Hévíz is a charming health resort, inhabited by 5 000 citizens, located only 6 km from the Balaton lake. It is also one of the most beautifully flowered town in Hungary and in May 2016 it was given an Innovation Award in the category of the Innovative Spa and Health Resort Destination by the European Spas Association. Hévíz has been a well-known health resort for 220 years thanks to the biggest thermal lake in Europe. The number of Polish tourists visiting the city still grows and the standard of the lodging conditions are being constantly improved. A unique leisure A visit in Hévíz does not need to be only for healing or preventive reasons. In spring and summer when the flowers blossom, the weather encourages for long walks. The lake is surrounded by the forest of exotic trees, where you can find evergreen bald cypresses. On the other hand the city is full of nice cafes and restaurants offering local specialties and exquisite wines. Except for the baths in the thermal lake and the traditional therapy, there is a wide offer of spa and wellness services based on the use of the lake’s water available at the high standard hotels. There are saunas, relaxation massages, beauty treatments, as well as healthy and delicious cuisine is served. For many visitors a stay in Hévíz is a motivation for starting a balanced and healthy way of living. An optimal treatment time is 15 days, however if it not possible it is worth relaxing for a shorter time, too. Other attractions Hévíz and its surroundings are a perfect place for the fans of cycling tours. Local tourist trails lead to ruins of the beautiful castles, as well as to the shore of the Balaton Lake. There are also many offers of the active stay in the region, and the calendar is full of different cultural events in the city throughout all year.

lead: The therapy named after Dr. Sebastian Kneipp monk is based on the stimulus generated by the alternation of cold and hot water.
tartalom:+ 1 Dr. Kneipp revolutionized holistic medicine in the 19th century. Main features of the Kneipp-therapy: first of the all the body is heated up, which is followed by a short cooling session and the body is reheated again by using physical exercise. Traditional Kneipp-therapy elements are the followings: hand-, elbow- and knee pouring; hot-wet bolstering and hot baths. The therapy also involves physical exercise in fresh air. The bottom part of the Kneipp foot bath is covered with rounded stones. Stones are covered by cold water. Guests are walking in the bath by lifting their feet from the water to hot air, while the stones are gently massaging the soles. This way cold water and hot air generates the alternating bath character. The alternation of cold water and hot air stimulates the vein walls, thus having a beneficial effect on the blood circulation and refreshing the feet. Regular usage of the Kneipp foot bath prevents the development of inflammations and stimulates the metabolism. Kneipp-therapy is also applied in the case of circulation disorders, tense muscles and exhaustion. Principles of the Kneipp-therapy: for the treatment of chronic illnesses hot stimulus and in the case of acute illnesses cold stimulus is recommended accurate, unambiguous water therapy dosage is required for the best effects cold stimulus can be exclusively applied on hot body (heating takes place by using hot water or with the help of exercise) re-heating after treatment (with hot clothing or exercise) Interesting Sebastian Kneipp was suffering from a serious disease from an early age: he had tuberculosis. He was trying to overcome his illness by self-healing. He applied the knowledge written down by Johann Sigmund Hahn in his book in practice. He tried a method in the winter of 1849 - he run to River Danube, while breathing heavily, he got undressed and jumped into the ice-cold river, than he came out of the water, got dressed and run home- which had a positive effect on his illness. As a result of the “treatment” he felt refreshed and healthier and he repeated the treatment on many occasions following his first try. As an additional treatment he was pouring water on his body and he regularly went bathing. As a result of the therapy he regained his health.

tartalom:+ 1 The Hungarian spa town of Hévíz is famous for its sulphurous thermal lake and its unconventional therapies. The devil himself once worked the fields around here, but it was such hard going that in a fit of rage, old Harry flung down his plow so hard that it shot deep into the earth – or so the ancient Hungarian legend goes. Warm water henceforth flowed from a spring on that spot and has fed the thermal lake ever since. Resort entrance The reality on this early fall morning in Hévíz is less dramatic:14 degrees Celsius and a light drizzle. After a cool night,a white mist hangs over the deep-blue lake and the bathhouse on stilts at its center with its pretty wooden spires. It looks straight out of a Disney film, but smells like a sulfur mine. Author Mathias Becker in the thermal lake I wait on the shore, shivering in my shorts. I’m supposed to take a dip in the lake, but not before an attendant has arrived– for safety’s sake. The fumes apparently make some people feel woozy in the water. I stick my big toe in to test it – lukewarm. When my potential life saver comes into sight soon after, I slide into the lake like a fish eager to return to its element. Sedately, I swim by water lilies and on into the fairy-tale landscape. Somewhere beneath me lies the lake’s geological source: Every second, 410 liters of mineral-rich water, heated naturally to a very pleasant temperature by the earth, flow from a crack inthe rock 38 meters down. That’s why the water temperature can be as high as 38° C in summer and only go down to 25° C in winter. Regular bathing in the lake is said to ease rheumatic complaints and back pain; drinking the water in healing doses reputedly aids digestive disorders. The mists have now evaporated and the first bathers of the day are stepping into the lake. Nearly all have a brightly colored foam pool noodle around their hips. It looks silly but helps keep them afloat – a safety precaution. You’re not supposed to stay in the water for more than half an hour anyway, and it’s completely off limits for anyone with cardiovascular problems. I swim slowly back, then make myself comfortable on one of the sunbeds around the inner pool. The lake has made me drowsy. Tropical waterlilies With a surface area of over four hectares, this thermal lake is the largest in the world suitable for bathing. There is one in New Zealand of a similar size, but at a constant temperature of 55 to 60° C, it is better suited to steaming vegetables than bathing. The Hévíz lake resort, on the other hand, is like a warm bathtub even in frosty weather, making the small town on the western shore of Lake Balaton Hungary’s most popular place of pilgrimage for those with back and joint complaints, even despite its competition within Hungary. From the famous Turkish baths in Budapest to the cave baths of Miskolc (where you have to swim through tenebrous tunnels) and the thermal baths in Hajdúszoboszló (one of Europe’s largest), more than 1300 thermal springs make the country on the Pannonian Plaina veritable healing hotspot. Many a source was only discovered while drilling for oil, but the warm waters of Hévíz were already popular with the ancient Romans. Bathing culture ended soon after the fall of Rome and was only revived in the late 18th century. First came the nobles and the bourgeoisie; then, in the Communist era, it was the turn of the workers. Allegedly, it was the party big wigs who involuntarily stopped the fun: Duringone of their sauna parties, the wooden bathhouse caughtfire and burned down. Rebuilt in 1989, the bathhouse reopened when Communism ended. The old political system disappeared, but Hévíz remained and blossomed. The town recorded over a million overnight stays in 2017, around 40 percent from Hungary, the rest from across Europe. A wellness industry with massage and beauty salons has long become established in and around the resort. Hotels have installed spas, and some flood their pools with the thermal water. To get a sense of the unbroken enthusiasm for Hévíz, I booked in for some of the traditional Hévíz treatments. First, the mud bath. I climb down steps into a steel basin the size of a garden pool that’s anchored in the lake. Just a few steps, and already the heavy mud, making a gloopy, bubblysound at every step, is up to my thighs – and up to my bellybutton when I sit down. A woman beside me reaches for the grainy, strong-smelling mass and gleefully smears it onto her face and shoulders. I bravely follow her lead. That evening, I notice that my skin feels unusually soft and I sleep better that night than I have for a very long time. Awakening the next morning, I can’t wait to get moving and am ravenously hungry. After breakfast, I have a massage appointment in the wellness and therapy area. Stefania Bajer, atherapeutic and sports masseur sporting a severe undercut, greets me with a firm handshake. In just 20 minutes, she has kneaded my muscles so expertly that I still feel the beneficial effects of it days later. I ask her whether my back is in good shape. I’m 40, I jog now and again, but spend most of my time in front of the computer. I haven’t had any pain – so far. “You need to exercise more,” says Bayer, “much more!” Mud wrestler: author Mathias Becker is clearly enjoying his bath Later on, I get to see where a lack of exercise can lead at the bath house: to the underwater “stretching pool,” where patients with back problems are suspended in the water, their arms or neck fastened into a kind of harness so that they cannot move. At the same time, weights attached to their hips pull their vertebraeminimally apart, relieving the discs between them. Developed in 1953 by Károly Moll, a local physician, this therapyis still used successfully on patients with disc problems. As I have no trouble with my spinal discs, I am allowed into thewater with very little ballast for a kind of trial therapy, so to speak. My arms rest on a kind of underwater gymnastics bar and I am drawn down by two three-kilo steel weights attached toa belt. My feet make no contact. “Harascho?” In Russian, Bajerasks the young man next to me whether he’s all right – but he doesn’t look it. My neighbor is wearing the kind of neck brace people wear after a rear-impact collision, and there are two metal bars on top of it, keeping his head above water. “Harascho …,”he breathes softly. As we leave the pool 20 minutes later, Anton Marukhin tells me that he’s a 28-year-old advertising and music video producer living near Moscow, and that he suffers with back pain. “I sit a lot, maybe that’s why,” he says. The doctors in Russia couldn’t help him so his parents sent him to Hévíz. The town’s healing reputation clearly extends far beyond the borders of Hungary. The underwater stretching bath is said to ease back problems. One of the men aiming to help pain patients like Marukhinis Dr. Gábor Domokos, the rheumatology and physiotherapy consultant in charge of wellness and therapy at the resort. He wears white sneakers with his white coat and is 68 but looks much younger. That’s not from bathing in the lake, he says (he cycles a lot and hikes in the hills around Lake Balaton), adding that too much significance should not be read into the lake water alone because no precise physiological explanation has been found for how the minerals work. “But we do know that many people who come to us with chronic pain feel better after the treatment.” The secret probably lies in the package: exercise in the warm water, possibly also the water’s composition, and then the peace, the long woodland walks – recently coined as “forest bathing” – physiotherapy, and a good, healthy diet. And also the sleep, I think to myself. Besides intensive curative swimming physicians recommend longwoodland walks Dr. Gábor Domokosis head of wellness and therapy Finally, I test the mud pack: I lie down on my back and am covered from neck to toe in the warm mass and then wrapped in foil and towels like a napkin dumpling. The mud weighs heavyon my body. Not a minute later and I have dozed off once again. Several days later, once I’ve returned home, I open my case and a sulfurous cloud rises to meet me. A most stimulating odor. I pullon my running shoes and head out the door. I’ve had enough sulfur to last me awhile. lead: In cooperation with the Hévíz Tourism Nonprofit Kft., the specialists of the Hévíz Medicinal Bath and St. Andrew’s Hospital for Rheumatology, as well as the qualified spa hotels of Hévíz will launch a POST-COVID CARE programme in September 2021 at several locations based on the effectiveness of the treatments of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy.
tartalom:+ 1 After 220 years of medical experience and research, the Traditional Hévíz Therapy became a trademark of Hévíz in 2015. The therapy consists of three basic and four complementary treatments using the healing properties of sulphurous magnesium carbonate water. Experts have recognized that a significant part of the hydro, movement, physio- and electrotherapies of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy is suitable for the treatment of certain problems of the Post-Covid syndrome. In addition, the mineral content of Lake Hévíz, the evaporating water and the climatic effect of the 60-hectare Protective Forest surrounding the lake are also very effective in achieving the healing effect. The Post-Covid Care programme will work on the model of the already proven Traditional Hévíz Therapy. Patients arriving in Hévíz with post-Covid-19 symptoms will receive professional and personalised treatments in the comfort of a hotel, under medical supervision. The programme and the quality of the treatments will be identical, regardless of which Hévíz location the patient chooses. THE PROCESS OF POST COVID CARE EXAMINATIONS AND TREATMENTS IN HÉVÍZ The specialists in Hévíz try to alleviate or, if possible, eliminate the symptoms of Post-Covid syndrome, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, concentration and psychological problems. The patient's condition is assessed before arrival using an online questionnaire, and a full medical examination is available before the treatment starts, either at the hotel or at a local private clinic. The specialists aim to put together an individualised treatment programme, as Post-Covid symptoms vary considerably from patient to patient. If the severity of the symptoms indicates it, they may even recommend a hospitalisation different from the programme. The Post Covid Care tests and treatments are designed and supervised by rheumatologists, internists, cardiologists, dieticians and mental health professionals with decades of experience. After the results of endurance, muscle strength of the main muscle groups, oxygen saturation, cardiological and laboratory tests, the recommended treatment programme for the patient is drawn up. Depending on the results, the intensity and frequency of the exercise will also be decided. The duration of the Post-Covid Care treatments varies depending on the severity of the symptoms but is at least one week. The treatments aim to achieve the best possible recovery and fuller rehabilitation as far as possible without the use of medication and with a targeted treatment plan (active movement therapy, passive treatment methods and other physiotherapy techniques). In Hévíz, the hotels offer a wide range of treatments, such as therapeutic massage, electrotherapy, physiotherapy, gymnastics, breathing exercises with chest mobilisation, diaphragm exercise, inhalation, spa treatments, static and dynamic balance, proprioception development, water gymnastics, salt cave, stretching, mental hygiene guidance, dietetic advice, aromatherapies, etc. The climatic environment surrounding Lake Hévíz is an excellent place for outdoor exercises, such as Nordic Walking, walking, yoga or cycling, all of which help recovery. AIM AND LOCATIONS OF POST-COVID CARE TREATMENTS The Post-Covid Care programme is currently available at five locations in Hévíz: Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa, Hotel Europa Fit, NaturMed Hotel Carbona, Hotel Palace Hévíz and Hotel Spa Hévíz. Participants in the programme aim to use their expertise and as many tools as possible to help people recovering from Covid-19 disease to end the symptoms that persist and affect the quality of life. They believe that their expertise, Hévíz's unrivalled facilities and the comfort of a hotel can work together to help patients make a full recovery as quickly as possible. Detailed information about the Post Covid Care programme can be found on the website of the town of Hévíz: www.heviz.hu

cím: Can we share Hungarians desire for thermal baths?
lead: Travel blog and photos by Motti Verses
tartalom:+ 1 The IMTM 2023 – International Mediterranean Tourism Market was held two months ago in Expo Tel Aviv for the first time after COVID. The exhibition was a success. Endless booths and representations of both countries and private tourism providers alike. Walking between the cubicles and meeting hundreds of professionals, I suddenly noticed a small modest counter in a remote corner with the Hungarian flag. There I met Petr Ostrovkin, an impressive businessman with his intrepetor. I was curious about the product he was trying to market – a hotel in Hungary he owns on a small lake I never heard of. Petr invited me to visit and within a few weeks I found myself spending an incredible time by Europe’s largest thermal basin – lake Hévíz, chick to chick with Lake Balton. There I investigated, discovered and experienced – why do Hungarians desire top thermal baths so much. Or, is it true that Hungary is indeed a “bathing world-power”. The explanation is rather straightforward – history, tradition and geography are all mixed, like a traditional Jewish Cholent. The Romans that ruled in ancient Hungary left first their famous mark here. They had bathing and cleaning habits. Bathing was an important part of their lifestyle, which meant refreshing the body and soul. They built baths in this region, mainly for their military forces. Several private baths were also framed by wealthy Romans in their mansions. It is believed that the Roman healers built separate bathing complexes for those who were in poor health condition. Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule – an art wall creation in Rudas bath, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) Going back in time – Rudas turkish style sink, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) However it is believed that the Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule. The Ottoman Empire, historically the Turkish Empire, controlled much of southeast Europe, including Hungary. They are the ones that lay down the foundations of thermal baths. The Ottomans also introduced people to the habits of their wellness treatments. Massages, body creams and oils. The Turks valued bathing as both a cleansing ritual and social gathering. The Hungarians were doubtful. Only the Turks were allowed to use the baths during the day. Curious Hungarians only went to the thermal baths at night-time, especially in Budapest that was and still is a city of bathing power. The rest is history. Over the years these baths became part of a balanced life culture in Hungary. Bearing in mind that the country has no access to an ocean or a sea, relying on Lake Balaton for recreational needs, local baths flourished. The neighbors in Austria, once part of the joint dual Monarchy under the name Austro-Hungarian Empire, similarly love thermal baths . Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin (photo by Motti Verses) Endless steam – Lake Hévíz (photo by Motti Verses) A small creek with water coming from the lake- similar as the hotel thermal baths (photo by Motti Verses) No wonder the small Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin is an extremely popular destination – a two hours drive, either from Budapest or Vienna. It is 38.5 meters deep, with 410 liters per second water flow rate and biologically volcanically active – a natural thermal lake with magical health capabilities. Some call it the fountain of life. Since 1795 these healing waters helped people to recover and regain their strength. Most visitors return home refreshed and rejuvenated. Experts indicate that the chemical ingredients of cold and hot water springs, with 40 degrees of sulphuric medicinal water here, are richer than those in thermal baths in Budapest. Hévíz is where Petr Ostrovkin’s hotel is. He hopes Israelis will in time flock to his shimmering estate. His Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa offers 232 rooms and suites and is an ultimate destination for a relaxing and therapeutic vacation. The hotel is located in a gigantic natural park within walking distance to Lake Hévíz. This walk is rather surreal along a small creek with steam water coming from the lake. Our visit was just recently but the temperatures were low and a constant drizzle dominated our stay. Endless steam evaporates as the water temperature is very high. Guests may enjoy Lake Hévíz mineral water reaching the spa via pipes. Definitely the most rewarding experiences one can enjoy here. Lotus Therme is a pampering traditional hotel. A variety of different indoor pools in contrasting water temperatures are offered. The great jacuzzi was the strongest I have ever experienced. The main round pool is heated, but does not contain healing water. Pouring rain while your body is soaked deep in hot water is just paradise. We loved our morning swim in this well maintained pool. A unique experience in any weather conditions. The wellness spa offers a variety of treatments with Lake Hévíz products, however we did not experience them. The pampering pools were just fantastic. The daily scenery from the room balcony – total relaxation (photo by Motti Verses) A great experience while swimming – constant drizzle with steam evaporation, as the water temperature is very high (photo by Motti Verses) The relaxing lobby of Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus is the key element here as this water flower really blossoms on this never surprising natural wonder. Apparently they like the volcanic water and always thrive in warm water with a need room to grow. The lake provides the perfect environment and the hotel wisely promotes this unique phenomenon as a marketing tool in its logo and with endless art creations all over the facilities. Advertisement Hungarians and Austrians might carry a mosaic of a historical ambivalent relationship, but both people surly adore Lake Hévíz. The majority of guests in the hotel originate from those countries that share love for thermal baths. Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa is offering both food and entertainment with this fact in mind. Pleasant veteran General Manager Attila Fulop is heading skilled team members that work here for many years. Dressed with formal clothes they all recognize the guests who keep returning here. Loyal customers are the best proof for success. The menu at dinner is different each evening and the variety is one of the most generous I have seen. The bar is crowded each night and live dancing with different musicians each day are offered here. Guests of all ages are actually dancing. General Manager Fulop knows his work. A dream of a good hotelier is to keep his guests in its premises and not looking for alternatives elsewhere. A variety of different indoor pools in contrasting water temperatures are offered (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus is the key element here as this water flower really blossoms on the lake (photo by Motti Verses) The bar – live dancing with different musicians each evening (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa by night (photo by Motti Verses) With General Manager Attila Fulop(left) – a true Hungarian professional hotelier(photo by Motti Verses) One question remains. Will Israelis flock to Hévíz? Hamat Gader hot springs site in the Yarmouk River valley, used since the classical antiquity, is one of the most popular attractions for Israelis. With that in mind and the endless daily flights from Ben Gurion airport to Budapest, the potential is certainly there. Especially in winter when the flight costs are rock bottom. Hévíz here we come.

tartalom:+ 1 We did not find any description of whether the miners, 200 of them, volunteered for the 5-year scientific observation, having no idea how well they would do. After a thorough medical examination, 400 healthy subjects were selected for the test. Based on experience, the basic premise was that 5 years of hard physical work is very taxing for the body, so miners develop more locomotor complaints after so many years, the number of partial disabilities increases and the rate of illnesses is higher. It is a well-known fact that musculoskeletal diseases are very common among people living unhealthy and/or sedentary lifestyles, as well as people who perform heavy physical work. In this regard, numerous investigations were carried out both at home and abroad in the 1960s and 1970s. What did they want to prove? At the same time, the doctors in Hévíz believed that balneotherapy (performed with water) and physiotherapeutic (performed with movement) cures in Hévíz are useful in preventing such diseases. Preventive treatment can reduce the risk of developing locomotor diseases, workers will spend less time in sick bays, and the cost of their medical treatments will be lower. In 1976, 400 miners were found to be healthy. 200 of them were included in the control group, those who had not been on a medical holiday in Hévíz for 5 years, had not received any health-preserving treatment anywhere. However, the other 200 lucky miners spent 3 weeks in the spa town every year, at the cost of their vacation, where they swam in the warm water of Lake Hévíz, received massage and mud treatments, took part in physical therapy, and received additional treatments. The preventive cures in Hévíz were not only useful and enjoyable for the 200 miners, but the research also ended with very positive results. After 5 years, in 1981, at the then Hévíz State Spa Hospital, it was established that among the 200 miners in the "untreated" control group, significantly more people became disabled and spent significantly more time in the infirmary than those who received preventive treatment. The health status of the regularly treated group clearly remains much better despite the same and equally demanding hard physical work as the control group. But this was not enough proof of the effectiveness of typical Hévíz medicinal water cures! In 1988, another study was conducted at the Hévíz State Spa Hospital, now involving 227 volunteers. In the 1980s, they tried to convince employers why it was worth sending their employees on medical leave. In the case of the 227 people, they were interested in the number of days spent in the patient population. However, the extent of this can mean a significant loss of manpower/a decrease in productivity for a company. They selected 227 patients who were treated with the same locomotor complaint, but 107 of them received medication only, while 120 were treated with a complex spa treatment repeated every year. An astonishing result was achieved in the examined period! The 120 patients who received regular spa treatments spent a total of 885 days in the hospital. In contrast, the 107 members of the control group spent 5,430 days! That's six times the number! This is such a significant difference that it had to be recognized that spa treatments regenerate people much more effectively. Today, it is considered natural that preventive and recreational complex cures and health programs are important not only for those who perform heavy physical work. In Europe, more and more people are participating in so-called manager cures, which serve to regenerate the physical and mental performance of managers who are overburdened with mental work. These are periods of two to three weeks, during which the participants run a lot, swim, eat healthy, and relax, which in many cases includes a digital detox (a period without smart devices). Don't have time for such a long vacation? Don't be discouraged! Try an intensive health program in Hévíz and you have already taken the first step towards a fitter Me. tartalom:+ 1 BEACH SEASON IN AUTUMN AT THE LARGEST THERMAL LAKE IN THE WORLD Bathe in 30°C hot water in the world's largest natural thermal lake in Hévíz. You do not have to give up the beach experience as the off-season in Hévíz is like a holiday received as a present. Whether it is overcast or it is drizzling, the stroking of hot water will dispel the sad autumn mood and, if there is any, the feeling of aching muscle/joints. And if it is raining and blowing, you can still immerse yourself in a pampering spa experience in the indoor spa or wellness area. ACTIVE EXPERIENCES LOCALLY AND AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Discover the wonderful surroundings of Hévíz, where many wonders of the western corner of Lake Balaton await you. Discover the ruins of the castles of Szigliget, Rezi, Tátika, Csobánc, Sümeg, Nagyvázsony, explore the cycling paths and hiking trails, visit the lookout towers, from where you can see an unparalleled panorama of Lake Balaton. To do so, the Tourinform office in Hévíz also provides you with maps, bicycles and e-bikes. Take a boat trip in the bay or visit Keszthely, where you can see the third-largest baroque mansion in Hungary with six unique exhibitions. There is no more ideal time for active relaxation than early autumn, with its gorgeous colours, when the temperature is pleasant, around 20°C. IT'S TIME TO RELAX A LITTLE AND CHARGE YOUR BATTERIES BEFORE THE LONG WINTER In autumn, it is recommended to have a little immune boost, which is based on the regeneration of body and soul. And it's easier to relax, unwind, and relieve stress when you rely on professionals. Does your back or do your shoulders hurt? Would you regain your fitness? Would you draw strength before the long winter? Give yourself a chance for a quality holiday. Pamper yourself with a refreshing massage, do sports every day for half an hour in the fresh air, choose from the offer of autumn vegetables and fruit, and finally relax your muscles in the hot medicinal water. A 5-day holiday in Hévíz can do wonders if you want to recharge your batteries in a calm environment, without crowdedness. Time and space (reception) do not matter on the cosy streets and squares of Hévíz and its surroundings, on the walking paths of parks and forests, and the promenades along the waterfront. Only the quality time you dedicate to yourself counts. AUTUMN IS THE SEASON OF GOOD WINES AND CULINARY ADVENTURES Whether it's wines, a dinner with friends, an autumn barbecue party or a culinary evening, there are many opportunities in Hévíz in the autumn. Visit Hévíz and choose from a wide range of restaurants, since whether you would like to try traditional Hungarian flavours, street food or fine dining dinners, the flavours of autumn: mushrooms, chestnut, pumpkin, grapes, pears, plums, peaches make every meal a real experience. And if you still cannot find the flavours you like, visit the Hévíz Farmers' Market, where you can choose from local cheeses, smoked meats, juices, jams and pickles. THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN BUMPING INTO A COZY CONCERT DURING A ROMANTIC EVENING STROLL Although this year has not been loud from events and festivals, in the autumn we prefer a cosy little concert, a harvest-time cooking, or a romantic movie. The long autumn evenings and the pleasantly warm afternoons would provide an ideal opportunity to visit the exhibition at the Museum in the Town Centre, walk in the Roman ruin garden, enjoy an open-air concert or buy tickets for a theatre performance in Keszthely. Choose at least one cultural program from the area you haven’t seen before that you’ve never seen or visited before and top your vacation off with a pinch of art. tartalom:+ 1 Would it be cool though? If you want to look cool by swimming in a natural lake in winter try Lake Hévíz. The temperature of the Lake never goes below 24˙C, not even in the winter. In Hévíz it doesn't matter what season it is: it is always bathing time! This is a proven fact! Did you know? Tired muscles, cold toes, and stress dissolve in warm water! In the thermal spa pools, you can enjoy the hot steam all day and night at 36°C. Wherever you go, sooner or later (sooner is the better) you're bound to stumble upon a poolside. Melt yourself out with the power of steam! As soon as winter sets in, the sauna stones start to glow. Honey, fragrant, coconut, beer infusions, and refreshing saunas await you. You don't have to start with the 90°C Finnish sauna, instead start with the aroma or steam cabin and relax with the power of nature! A water experience in a different way! Ever been paddling in winter? Have you ever paddled at all? Only here, and only in winter, you can experience it on the Hévíz Stream. Not only the experience is special, but the landscape is also a sight to behold! Which is why only a very limited number of paddlers can paddle on a stretch of about 10 km. If you want to go on a canoe trip, you should book early for this programme! But good news: it is safe for children too and even recommended for beginners! In fact, zigzagging is even more fun. Forget the water! Warm water and steam are not the only ways to warm up. Explore the so called ‘Vadlán-lik (Wild Girl’s Cave) or find out yourself if the basalt organs really play some music or not. Finally, make a selfie from the top of one of the lookout towers of the Keszthely Hills, or from the Castle of Szigliget, with Lake Balaton and the basalt hills in the background! Catch fire! Would you like to participate in a small adventure tour, just here, just in town, preferably not too long? Join a torch-lit tour of the town, discover the secrets of Hévíz on a magical evening on our night tour! You can sign up for the tour at the Tourinform in Hévíz. There’s a Plan B! You arrived in the city, and it’s raining all day. Don't stay home! It's open now as well! If you like challenges and moving a lot The Adrenalin Arena in Alsópáhok is the perfect choice for you. The Arena is fun for adults and for children as well. For the less adventurous, Keszthely's Helikon Castle Museum is the place to visit. In the castle you can spend days, since there are six different exhibitions waiting for you to explore them all. You may also find some other thermal baths in the area as well filled with slides and many pools. You're here to relax, not to jump! Stay in the hotel and head to the spa. There's nothing better than one or more pampering sessions, a nice relaxing massage, a scented bath or some beauty treatments. Don’t forget to eat! Morning, noon, evening, anytime - have a steaming drink; tea, coffee, mulled wine, punch, hot chocolate and/or eat hot cream soups, pancakes, roasts, or the finest lángos in the city. You don't have to go down to the bar if you don't want to. Order everything from the hotel and spend the whole day in bed. Although you can do that at home too, although you would miss the room service! Change your perspective! No snow? You can still enjoy your winter vacation!

lead: After months of urban lifestyle, digital noise, stress, and winter fatigue, it’s time to return to an ancient energy source: nature! Spring is arriving, bringing with it a fresh, green energy that surrounds us in every moment. Hévíz is a true natural oasis where healing waters, lush forests, and crystal-clear air help your body and soul renew.
tartalom:+ 1 Water – The Source of Life Water, in its noble simplicity, is the essence of life – and this is especially true of the thermal waters of Hévíz. It’s a living healing source, rich in minerals that nourish the body and help restore tired joints. They say stress and sore muscles melt away in the warm waters of Hévíz! A relaxing bath can feel like a rebirth of your inner energy: the minerals boost circulation, support detoxification, and encourage cell renewal. It’s not just a physical refreshment, but a mental one too – a true stress-reliever. Breathing Nature, Fresh Leaves, and Green Harmony Picture yourself walking through a dense, green forest, where every tree and leaf radiates life and freshness. The clean air offered by the forest acts as natural oxygen therapy – freeing your mind, helping you reflect, and pulling you out of daily stress. The silence of the woods, the trickle of streams, and the song of birds create a stress-relieving effect that reconnects you with inner calm. This spring, “Open up to nature!” in Hévíz – walk, jog, hike, or cycle to energize every cell in your body with fresh air! Let the Sunshine In! Natural sunlight is essential for vitamin D production, which is key to bone strength and a healthy immune system. In spring, days get longer, the sun shines warmer, and we can spend more time outdoors – enjoying early sunbaths, weekend yoga, or just being outside. You can amplify the experience with a bit of sound therapy: notice the relaxing sounds of nature – the rustling of trees, birds singing, and water flowing. Quiet your mind and hear the harmony of the earth. The Healing Mud Imagine lying in a warm room as your body is massaged with thick, black therapeutic mud heated to 44°C. Thanks to the warm, mineral-rich substance and skilled massage, your whole body relaxes, your skin warms, and the beneficial elements absorb through your pores. Your muscles unwind, joints quietly regenerate, your skin becomes silky, and your nerves find calm. Don’t do it because you need to – do it because it’s simply fantastic! Vitamin Bomb Spring is the season of rebirth, and there’s no better way to boost a tired immune system than with a diet full of fresh vegetables. Ancient medicinal herbs that have been part of healing traditions for centuries are now central to modern wellness. A short detox or juice cleanse with fresh seasonal produce doesn’t just cleanse the body – it’s a true vitamin bomb that restores your vitality. Hévíz is the perfect place to rediscover the power of nature after a long, exhausting winter. The healing water, green forests, fresh air, sunlight, and natural sounds combine to create a revitalizing effect that recharges and restores. If you feel it’s time to escape the digital city noise and reconnect with nature’s ancient energy, don’t hesitate: start your spring renewal in Hévíz and experience the power of true green energy!

lead: Bathing in autumn?
tartalom:+ 1 Why not? It is possible outside of the heated indoor baths as well! The temperature of Europe’s largest thermal lake is about as high as 30°C even in the autumn! In the early autumn weather, it is a really refreshing experience to swim in the warm water or to bathe at the beach. You don’t believe us? Try it yourself! It is not a coincidence that our frequent guests tend to choose the autumn months for their stay since they can still enjoy our bath when the beaches of Lake Balaton are already too cold to visit. See the city before and after your bath! Which city should you see first? Hévíz, Keszthely, Tapolca, Badacsony, Szigliget… There are so many experiences waiting for only you to discover in the West-Balaton area! It is not too hot anymore, but the cold weather is still far away, so we have the best weather for some exploring! You will find many points of interest to your liking: castles, ruins, museums, nature reserves or even boat trips on Lake Balaton. Even in Hévíz or in the 40 km area of Hévíz you will be sure to find some exciting programs, let it be seeing some old castle ruins with the best view to Lake Balaton or having a boat trip inside of the famous cave lake. What’s more, most of these attractions are quite easily accessible with bicycles as well thanks to the bicycle road on the shores of Lake Balaton. And what if you do not want to travel so much? Choose a nice restaurant and treat yourself with the best Hungarian dishes! Wellness or keeping fit? Why not both? The warm thermal lake is given, and the many programs as well in the surrounding hills, lakes, and forests. A little wellness for the night will be provided for you from the very best. Let it be relaxing massages, saunas, or beauty treatments, you will find a wide range selection almost everywhere in Hévíz, including modern therapies as well. However, Hévíz is not just a regular bath city: our medical therapies are almost 200 years old, so Hévíz is the perfect destination to treat your summer sport injuries or your back issues you got from your home office. One thing is sure: Hévíz will make you fit! Why Hévíz? Hévíz is a small town with a population of 5,000 people, a kind atmosphere, and tourists from all over the world. Hévíz is quite appealing for many people due to its closeness to Lake Balaton, its traditions, and its purity. Leave the noisy, crowded big cities behind! Leave the rush at home and give yourself some time to relax. Hévíz = slow tourism. A place where we have known what guests needs for 200 years. A city with comfortable beds, quality leisure time activates, green areas, fine dishes, and evening entertainment… and broadband Internet connection. And you won’t have to travel too far! Most people speak in English and German, but more and more Czech and Slovakian guides can be found in the city! You will of course find here international cuisine with many Hungarian dishes. And Lake Balaton and the most beautiful baroque castle of Hungary can be found only 7 kms from here! Where to start? Where to stay? Click on Hévíz in an application with a map, and you’ll know how much you need to travel only in 2 minutes! If you are planning to travel by public transport, you need to change in Budapest, Vienna or in Bratislava most likely. From the previously mentioned cities, we are only about 2 hours of travel. However, we are sure you won’t complain about the wide range of accommodations we provide! From 5-star hotel, through apartments with pools to quality private apartments, you will find anything! You can choose from more than 10,000 beds and there is a wide range of selection from the perspective of price as well. There are more than 10 qualified wellness hotels only in Hévíz.

lead: Water is our lifeblood, without it, life would be unimaginable on this wonderful planet called Earth. However, water is not simply the source of life. It surrounds us in many forms.
tartalom:+ 1 Drink it! The recommended daily water intake is 2 litres for adults. This is the amount that everyone needs for ideal body function. What’s more, in Hévíz, you can also drinksulphurous medicinal water, which is recommended for many people. Drinking Hévíz medicinal water in moderation can relieve stomach aches and bile problems. You cantaste it at the public water fountains. Get in the steam! The sauna is good, many people like it. Hot steam and humid air are an important part of the bathing culture of many civilisations, be it a Roman tepidarium, a Turkish bath, a Japanese onsen or a Finnish sauna. The hot, humid air dilates pores, increases cellular metabolism, refreshes the skin, relaxes the mind and clears the respiratory system. Ice-cold delights! Water vapour is also useful and can be used if it is ice cold. On the one hand, we often cool ourselves with ice cubes, cold water spray or an ice bath after a sauna session, and on the other hand, the cryosauna, which cools the body with temperatures of around minus 140 degrees Celsius, is becoming more and more popular. This freezing treatment takes only two minutes but it is extremely effective. It regenerates cells, alleviates reduced vascular problems, speeds up metabolism and even helps you lose weight. It is no coincidence that competitive athletes used it first for rapid recovery. Inhale water vapour! Having mentioned breathing in hot steam, we should also highlight the other beneficial effects of inhaled vapour. Inhaling water vapour can provide the body with manyvaluable substances, which can be rapidly absorbed. You can think of oxygen therapy, for example, or the mist floating above the lake, which contains gaseous substances that, when inhaled, enhance the healing effect. Hydromassage for everyone! Probably no one has ever been to a spa without standing/ sitting under a water massage jet. The massaging effect of water has been used for a long time, so it's almostubiquitous in spas, wellness and adventure baths. However, water jet massage is not just a simple muscle-relaxing spa experience; it is also a significant treatment. It is also used in Hévíz carried out in a 34-37 degree Celsius water bath under the name of Tangentor therapy. Depending on the strength of the water jet, it can even move deeper muscle layers, and it causes an increase in blood flow to the treated area and has a good effect on lymphatic circulation. It is one of the most popular procedures for post-operative care. Electricity conducted into water? Why not? It may sound strange, as most people learn at an early age that it is not advisable to dry our hair in the bathtub. However, there are occasions when conducting electricity into the water - much less than 220 V, of course - can be useful. One of these occasions is called the galvanic bath, which is mostly used to relieve arthritis and pain. This treatment should only be used under medical supervision and on a therapeutic basis. Typically, the hands and feet are placed in hot water while a low current is passed through the body thanks to the conductivity of the water. Splash! Of course, the best way to enjoy the water is to take a bath in it. From refreshing showers and adventure pools to the thermal water of Lake Hévíz, there's hardly a place where you can't spend precious minutes and hours in hot water. It is relaxing, stress relieving and beneficial for the whole body. Doing sports in water is the most joint-friendly form of exercise, so you can now join aqua fitness and aqua spinning classes in many places. Swimming exercises the whole body, but just floating in the silky hot water of Lake Hévíz can also do a lot to keep you fit.
