cím: HOW, WHERE, WHY DO YOU FLY IN A HOT AIR BALLOON?
lead: A little historical perspective!
tartalom:+ 1 The first test flight of a hot air balloon carrying people was carried out on October 19, 1783 near Paris. And on November 21, the first public flight took place, which then lasted 25 minutes and approx. We managed to cover 7.5 km. The balloon rose with the help of heated air, which was produced by burning straw and dry wood on a grate under the balloon dome. It only took a few days, however, and on December 1 of the same year, the first hot-air balloon filled with hydrogen took off in the vicinity of Paris, rising to a height of 550 meters. Unfortunately for them, upon landing, the local residents were so horrified that they immediately destroyed the "evil structure". The practical spread of balloons was given a big boost by the American Civil War of 1861-63, when the first balloon air force was created. Hot air balloon flights were also of great importance in terms of scientific experimentation. As early as 1784, scientific tests and experiments were carried out in flight. What was investigated: changes in temperature and air pressure, air composition, gravity, examination of living beings, meteorological processes. In July 1803, the first strictly scientific flight took place in Hamburg. Physicists flew for 5 and a half hours, up to an altitude of 7,000 meters, without oxygen bottles, in excruciating pain. Studies are carried out regarding cloud and air electricity, sound propagation, the boiling point of water and the evaporation process. The hobby and sports balloons used today, as well as the hot air balloons operated for tourist purposes, rise or fall according to the long-proven hot air principle, with the big difference that the hot air is now not achieved by burning dry branches, but by propane bottles. The Balaton Ballooning team told us interesting facts about ballooning We asked the pilots of Hungary's largest hot air balloon what they know about the huge balloon they fly around Hévíz and Kis-Balaton. Pilots Péter Kollár and Attila Aklan control Balaton Ballooning's hot air balloon from spring to the end of October, almost every day when the weather permits. We received answers to a number of questions, and here are the following, briefly and succinctly:TECHNICAL DATA What parts does a hot air balloon usually have? The main parts of hot air balloons are: basket, burner, dome, tension ropes, fuel (gas) tanks. In addition, the following are required for operation: fans for inflation, trailer for ground transport. Are there types of hot air balloons? If so, what are yours like? There are several types of balloons, Balaton Ballooning's Cameron A-375. The type is composed as follows: Cameron Ltd. is the manufacturer, A-type indicates the cut shape, the volume of the dome is 375,000 cubic feet (10,620 m3). The basket What is the size and weight of the basket and how many people can it fit?350x170 cm, 356 kg, 18 passengers + 1 pilot can travel in it. This is the largest used basket size at home. There are only 2 larger basket sizes, the largest can carry 27 people. The smallest is only 80x70 cm, weighs 55 kg and can accommodate only 1 person. What material is the basket made of?Sea reed woven on a metal and plastic frame. Can a basket have characteristics? Our basket is also unique, based on the plans of the chief pilot and the executive, it was made in the Ultramagic factory in Catalonia. It was developed for passenger flights, 5 and 4 people can travel in the right and left asymmetric passenger compartments. Each passenger has a space of 0.25 square meters as required by the EU. At the same time, it is unique in that it is also equipped with seat belts, which is rare because it is not mandatory. That's why only our basket is like this at home, but this is not typical in the world either. The dome How big is the dome?It has a volume of 10,620 m3 and a maximum load capacity of 3,401 kg - it can lift this much weight. When tensioned, it is as tall as a 10-story prefab house. It is 35 meters high, and its diameter at its widest point is 15 meters. This is the biggest balloon in Hungary. What material is the dome made of? Is it similar to what a spinnaker is for sailing ships, or a parachute for skydivers?Yes, it is a Hyperlast material. It has high tensile strength and can withstand 125 degrees Celsius without heat damage. Furthermore, the lower part at the burner head is made of Nomex flame retardant material. Why are there gaps in the dome circle? These are turning wheels, with the help of which the balloon can be turned 360 degrees along its longitudinal axis. Before landing, the pilot rotates the balloon to the landing side, and the balloon can also be rotated during flight, so that all passengers can see everything in a 360-degree panoramic view. How damage resistant is the dome? The Hyperlast material is a densely woven material with high tensile strength, so it is not fragile. What is the air temperature in the dome?Between 80 and 120 degrees, depending on whether we fly in cold (spring-autumn) or hot (summer) weather. What will happen to the dome when it is no longer in use? - Can this be used for something else?It will be scrapped. We can't use it for anything else. Fuel What kind of fuel does the balloon need?Propane gas, which is filled in special bottles for balloon flights. How much fuel do you need to fly?On average, 110-150 kg of propane gas is burned during a 1-hour flight. How heavy is the fuel at the beginning of the flight? The starting weight is 300 kg. How long is the fuel taken for?Sufficient for roughly 2.5 hours of flight time How much fuel is consumed depends on what? From the total weight of the passengers and how many degrees the outside air temperature is. Heavy passengers and 35 degree heat consumes a lot of gas. THE PILOTS AND THE STAFF How many people do your balloons have?In a hot air balloon, we distinguish between the air crew, who are the pilots, and the ground service crew. There is room for 1 pilot in the basket, take-off, landing, unpacking and transport are carried out by 4 people. What does a pilot need to know?European and Hungarian aviation laws, regulations and regulations. Historical knowledge (balloon flight). Theoretical foundations of balloon flight. Flight execution methodology. Meteorology, navigation, first aid, fire protection. Radio management and distribution rules. Knowledge of aircraft, instrumentation, use of other tools. Inspection, repair. Knowledge of regulations. Emergencies and what to do in case of an emergency. Ground preparation. Aviation knowledge. I have an instructor's and A, B, C, D professional service license. Which means I can drive all categories of balloons. I have flown 3,606 hours, 3,492 flights, I have been flying only with balloons for 38 years. Do the ground staff also need training?Appropriate driving license for the vehicles used to transport the balloon and passengers. Knowledge related to balloon flight: Ground preparation. Aviation knowledge. Radio management and distribution rules. Flight execution methodology. First aid, fire protection. OSH education. RISING, DESCENT, CHANGE OF DIRECTION How do you control a hot air balloon to how high it goes? which direction to fly?It all depends on the direction and speed of the wind. Wind blows in different directions and speeds at different heights. The direction and distance of flight depends on these stratospheric winds. By increasing or decreasing the temperature of the air in the balloon, the balloon can be raised to different heights in order to obtain a favorable wind. What makes take-off or landing difficult or complicated?Due to the strength of the wind, e.g. We cannot take off in case of a ground wind speed of 15 km/h. When landing, if the wind increases or changes. Is there a hot air balloon where you can control it better and fly on a fixed route? No, that's not really possible. There are characteristic wind directions resulting from geographical features that can be counted on, based on meteorological forecasts, but this cannot be called a planned, fixed route. In the past, there were bags filled with sand on the sides of the balloons, which were used to control the height. Is there still such a ballast in the hot air balloon?Only gas balloons fly with ballast. Gas balloons are filled with a gas that is lighter than air (e.g. hydrogen, helium or ammonia), the buoyancy of which lifts them up. The gas providing passive lift heats up in the sun and starts to rise uncontrollably, it cools down at night, its buoyancy decreases and the balloon will sink. There is no possibility of refilling in the air, so they carry sandbags as ballast. They can rise by scattering themselves from the sand, and sink by releasing gas. What is the highest altitude and the longest distance you have flown up and down?We were already flying at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Our furthest flight was from Hévíz to Noszlop. This is roughly a distance of 55 km as the crow flies. This distance with such a balloon is actually the unofficial Hungarian record. REGULATION Is there a law that regulates hot air ballooning? Who and how supervises who can fly, where and with what? The rules are laid down in the XCVII of 1995. Act on Aviation, is determined by the Department of Aviation Inspection Authority of the Ministry of Construction and Transport and the European Aviation Safety Agency. The pilot must have a valid professional service license and flight medical certificate for the given aircraft, and the balloon must have a valid airworthiness and registration certificate and insurance. Are there traffic rules that apply to hot air balloons?Yes. During daily flights, you can fly according to the airspace utilization plan issued by HungaroControl Magyar Légiforgalgi Szolgálat, taking into account prohibited and restricted airspaces. What determines how far a hot air balloon can fly safely? - are there statistics on how many times you have flown with this balloon? There is a technical exam after every 100 hours flown. During this, the tensile strength of the dome material is also reviewed. If it can withstand a breaking load of 14 kg, it can be flown. We are currently on flight 841. (September 18, 2023) OTHER INTERESTS How often do hot air balloon accidents happen?Since the balloon is a simple structure that works on a simple principle, accidents are not common. What happens if someone gets altitude sickness? How fast can you land?Passengers don't usually get sick. If so, I have cold mineral water, aspirin, and candy. Quick landing is not possible. Therefore, we do not carry passengers with circulatory, locomotor, or psychiatric problems, or those who are under the influence of alcohol or any other mind-altering substance. Is there competition for hot air balloons?Yes, but only for smaller balloons. Ours is not a competition balloon. What clothes should passengers fly in?When getting in and out of the balloon basket, it is more practical to use closed sports shoes and long pants, they can also be useful due to the uncertain landing site. Due to the possible wind, it is not recommended to wear hats that are easily blown away by the wind, and since we usually fly in the evening, at sunset, it is worth bringing a jacket or sweater with you even in the summer. As you go up, how does the temperature change?Moving away from the surface, the average temperature decreases. The decrease is 1 °C per 100 meters in dry air and 0.65 °C in moist air. You can sometimes hear that there are hot air balloon expeditions on extreme routes - what are the main differences compared to hot air ballooning?Hot air balloon expeditions (crossing the ocean, circumnavigation, arctic) use special balloons, and there are also mixed-use ones (helium and hot air balloons at the same time). Balloons flying this high raise closed, pressurized cabins. It's just a vehicle, and with vehicles there's always an interesting question: how much does it cost?In the case of this type, the basket is approx. HUF 12 million, dome approx. 25 million, burner approx. 5 million, gas tanks HUF 800,000. It's not something you just take home for fun. You can fly with Balaton Ballooning until the end of October, and the next time it will take off is in the spring of 2024. If you miss out this year, you can buy a gift certificate for the next season, even for a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas! cím: HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon 2021: a unique sport event was held for the first time in Hévíz
lead: We organised the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon for the first time this year. Here's what happened on 27 November!
tartalom:+ 1 The competition was organised by the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd., the Balaton Uplands National Park, the Saint Andrew Rheumatological Hospital, the Vadlán Runners and the Vidra Water cruise team. More than 30 additional volunteers took part in the event. A special competition The goal of the organizers was to create a new sport competition that is also unique nationwide. They not only paired two completely different sports (rowing and running) as a duathlon but they have also chosen a very special venue. The Hévíz stream leads away the warm running water of Lake Hévíz, so despite the winter weather, you can row on a pleasantly warm, steaming stream. The date of the competition was also predetermined by the conditions of the location, as rowing on the Hévíz stream is only possible from November to March. As the stream belongs to the local national park, canoeing is strictly forbidden outside the given period since it would disturb the flora and fauna especially in the breeding season in summer. So it is no coincidence that the late autumn date has been chosen. The aim of the organizer, the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd. was also to draw attention to the importance of exercise, active recreation in nature and a healthy lifestyle. They wanted to prove that Hévíz is not only a paradise for lovers of healing and wellness, but it can also offer many values and opportunities for athletes at any time of the year. The competition itself 83 starting teams, a total of 146 competitors arrived at the water-gate of the Hévíz stream to get into the water by canoe, kayak or SUP, and to make their way to Fenékpuszta which is about 10 kilometres away. Participants were able to bring their own watercrafts but those who didn’t have their own were also able to rent a canoe on the spot. After completing the 10-kilometre water distance, the participants were able to leave the boats at the transfer point and change their water vehicle for running shoes. After this their task was to run back on the same route on the embankment next to the Hévíz stream to finally reach the finish line at the beach of Lake Hévíz. The race has started on November 27 at 9 am, when the first canoe on the Hévíz stream in the direction of Fenékpuszta set off. The participants started the competition periodically, a new canoe set sail in almost every second minute. The last runner arrived back at the Hévíz Lake Bath beach area at 3 pm. All participants received the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon medal. THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE FIRST DUATLON Pre-registration for the competition was open until November 19th. In the morning of November 27, 83 competitors finally set out to complete the approximately 21-kilometer distance, including rowing and then running. All together 48 two or three-member teams and 35 individual participants (28 men, 7 women) set off. We welcomed ultra-runners, kayakers and amateur athletes among the competitors. No one gave up the race, all starters covered the distance without accident, so in the end all 146 competitors received the HEVIZIBIVALY medals. THE FINALISTS TEAMS: BL Team (#49) with a time of 2:10:04. Tamás Kolb and Judit Maléth (#54) with a time result of 2:15:28. Tamás Horváth and Gábor Major (#8), with a time result of 2:15:42. IN THE INDIVIDUAL WOMEN'S CATEGORY Éva Berekalli (#79) with a time result of 2:16:35. Helga Szidónia Kőhalmi (#71) with a time result of 2:18:23. Anita Galliné Szabó (#68) with a time result of 2:26:27. IN THE INDIVIDUAL MEN 'S CATEGORY Álmos Kassai (#84) with a time result of 1:42:16. József Friedrich (#89) with a time result of 1:52:58. Zoltán Csécsei (#92) with a time result of 1:55:42. A special award was given to the fastest SUP competitor Kornél Kazai. The success of the competition and the sincere enthusiasm of the competitors confirmed the organizers to organise the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon competition again and again every year during the winter, if they can. We want more and more people to prove that they do have the buffalo power too! We truly hope that every participant has enjoyed the race! See you next year as well! And lastly… Why the competition is called ‘HEVIZIBIVALY’ 'HEVIZIBIVALY' means 'buffalo from Hévíz' in Hungarian. Barely 50 years ago, water buffaloes were trampled along the bed of the Hévíz stream several times a year. The buffalos were driven here from the area to walk up and down in the creek bed. As the bed of the stream was always full of plants, the buffalos trampling down the plants ensured that the water flowed continuously and evenly in the direction of Lake Balaton. Buffaloes still live in several places in the area today, but they no longer have the task of cleaning the creek bed. This year our competitors have proven that they have the power of a buffalo. But do you have what it takes? Come and join us next year! Some photos from the event: [galeria]

tartalom:+ 1 Be Ready aims to: - provide local and regional authorities with research, assessment and operational instruments to better understand UHI, its drivers, and effects; - co-create, test and validate jointly developed solutions to mitigate the UHI effects in cities; - support partner cities to develop and adopt action plans for increased resilience to UHI effects with specific actions to promote green, blue, or white measures. The novel approach to be taken by the project – “green acupuncture” - will allow the partners, both cities and knowledge partners, to take targeted, small but powerful, context-based measures to deal with UHI in critical urban areas. City pilots will test solutions in three areas: “green acupuncture” (vegetation-based interventions); “white acupuncture” (based on innovative surfaces and materials); and “blue acupuncture” (novel uses of water resources). The project main outputs include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for UHI risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at city level; co-designed solutions for tackling UHI, tested and peer reviewed in urban environment by 12 pilot cities; a common strategy for improving the climate change preparedness and resilience aimed at local and regional authorities in the Danube region; action plans and transformative strategic outlooks for the participating partners; policy recommendations; a virtual training program with SPOCs; awareness campaigns in 12 countries over the 30-month period. Key for Be Ready is the ClimateSandbox approach that will support participating cities to define and deploy climate-oriented innovations – both on the technological and service side (i.e. content) and on the policy, administrative and spatial planning side (i.e. enabling conditions), through the innovative digital Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool. The project's ambition is to showcase to decision-makers and other stakeholders across Europe the benefits of adopting solutions in which the environment, simplicity, and aesthetics play a key role as value-generating agents as well as community engagement drivers, throughout the co-design process, acting both at levels of solution definition, development, and deployment. Implementation period: January 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026 Partners: • Sofia Development Association, Bulgaria – Lead Partner • DEX Innovation center, Czech Republic • Association Tehnopol of Galati, Romania • Chișinău Town Hall, Moldova • Municipality of Galați, Romania • Science and Technology Park Nis, Serbia • City of Nis, Serbia • City of Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina • Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, Slovenia • Capital City Podgorica, Montenegro • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria • Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia • Municipality of Ratiboř, Czech Republic • South Moravian agency for public innovation JINAG, Czech Republic • City of Kranj, Slovenia • Association Bureau for Integration and Social Innovations, Bulgaria • Development agency North Ltd., Croatia • Municipality of Hévíz, Hungary • Small Business Development Foundation of Kisalföld, Hungary Be Ready is an Interreg Danube Region Programme project co-funded by the European Union.

lead: The new calvary has been consecrated on 8 July 2022.
tartalom:+ 1 The Calvary was blessed and consecrated by Reverend Dr. György Udvardy, Archbishop of Veszprém, with the help of László Kiss, Bishop of Hévíz, who asked God's blessing on the built Calvary. They also asked blessings for the creators of the Calvary and for everyone who visits it to walk Christ's Way of the Cross. János József Kepli, Deputy Mayor of Hévíz and Secretary of State Bálint Nagy gave a festive speech to the large crowd gathered at the foot of the Árpád-era church. In his speech, József Kepli called the construction of the Calvary an important milestone in the life of Hévíz and Egregy, as it enabled one of the most important elements of Egregy's urban rehabilitation efforts to be realized. After the excavation and presentation of the ruins of the Villa Rustica, the preservation of the grave of the Roman soldier, the construction of the Egregyi Museum, the renovation of the Romanesque-style cemetery chapel and the renovation of the wine cellar, it is a great pleasure that such a beautiful, new, natural place that provides an opportunity for reflection was created. The calvary is not only a confession of our faith for Hévíz and the region, but also a significant step forward from the point of view of religious tourism, emphasized State Secretary Bálint Nagy in his speech. The length of the promenade consisting of 14 stations is about 300 meters, and the difference in level from the starting point to the cross is 23.5 meters. The calvary ascends in the direction of the Árpád-era church. Its design is characterized by simplicity and moderation. Trees offer shade in the surroundings of the walkway made of natural materials, and in some sections it is possible to rest and meditate. The materials used fits well into the landscape. The artistic works of his stations were created by Tibor Túri Török. At the end of the Calvary, a wooden cross was added. Next to the cross there is also a stone sculpture representing an empty tomb, which symbolizes the resurrection of Christ. At the end of our walk, we come to the north side of the monument cemetery chapel, so we can also admire the small Romanesque church built in the first half of the 13th century. The calvary can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car, and can also be visited as part of a guided walk. lead: Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton are quite popular destinations in Hungary. Daily, more than ten thousand people spend their holidays in this beautiful region. However, we might raise the question: what do we know and what should we know about the two most iconic lakes of Hungary?
tartalom:+ 1 While Lake Balaton is the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe, Lake Hévíz is the world’s biggest thermal lake that is also suitable for bathing. The source of Lake Balaton is a river called Zala, while Lake Hévíz has its source from a cave underneath the lake. The water of Lake Balaton flows through the Sió channel into the river Danube, however, the water of Lake Hévíz flows into the Gyöngyös stream, then to Small Balaton and ends up in Lake Balaton. The deepest point of Lake Balaton is about 11 metres in contrast to Lake Hévíz, where the source point is 38.5 metres deep. The surface of the water of Lake Balaton is 600 km2 whereas Lake Hévíz has only a 0.0475 km2 water surface. Due to the great water output of Lake Hévíz, the complete water of the lake is replaced in every 72 hours. Regarding Lake Balaton, this phenomenon takes almost two years. The temperature of Lake Balaton can be as high as 28°C on hot summer days; however, during cold winters the upper layers of the water can freeze. The ice can even grow 25 cm thick. On the other hand, the temperature of Lake Hévíz never goes below 23°C, not even in the winter. In the summer, the water of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36°C hot. We would be able to swim around Lake Hévíz in about half an hour if the buildings did not prevent us from doing so. Nonetheless, a week wouldn’t be enough to swim around Lake Balaton. Lake Balaton is full of both summertime and wintertime activities: you can rent a boat or a paddleboat, you can surf, sail and try out many extreme sports, while in the winter you can ice skate or slide if the ice is thick enough. In Lake Hévíz, you may only bath; however, you can do so every day of the year. The water of Lake Balaton is qualified as drinking water, whereas the water of Lake Hévíz is medicinal water also suitable for cures and many people drink it. In Lake Balaton, you can bath all day long, while, in Lake Hévíz, it is advisable to stay only thirty minutes at a time. We can even walk into Lake Balaton from the shores, while into Lake Hévíz we can descend into the water through stairs since the water is 2 metres deep around the shores as well. The typical flora of Lake Balaton is the reed which is mostly located around the shores. Lake Hévíz is famous for the beautiful water lilies that float around the whole Lake. Both lakes are rich in different species of fish. The mud of Lake Balaton is quite popular with kids who love playing with it on the beaches. On the other hand, the mud of Lake Hévíz is favoured by adults, who like to use the mud on their bodies due to its medical benefits. Lake Balaton as a touristic region is the second most popular region in Hungary after Budapest. At the same time, Hévíz, following Budapest, has the greatest number of guest nights in Hungary. Lake Balaton offers spectacular views whether you are watching it in the embrace of monadnocks, admiring it in a storm, or you are taking photos of the birds gathering along the crevasses or of the bellying sails. The crystal clear turquoise colour of Lake Hévíz, the blooming water lilies floating on it, the whirling mist above it, the reflection of the buildings at night, and to be aware that you are floating above 38.5 meters are a mystical feeling. Both Lake Balaton and Lake Hévíz are national treasures, which have evolved over millions of years as they are today. They are not for us, but we enjoy all the good that they can give us. We have to save and protect them so that the future generations would be able to enjoy the unparalleled natural beauty they provide.
August is traditionally the month of wine programs in the settlements on the shores of Lake Balaton and nearby. This is also the case in Hévíz, where the busiest program series of the year, the Hévíz Wine and Gastronomy Festival starts on August 18.

During the four days of the festival, you can meet blue-painted porters, handmade dolls, basket sellers, textile sellers, jewelry makers, ceramicists, but you may also buy goat cheese, smoked goods, homemade syrup, and handmade mustard. In addition to the vendors, there will be wine and food stalls waiting for the guests. This year we are preparing 30 types of "lángos", vegetable pies, vegan offerings, but of course also traditional wine-biscuits. In fact, fish soup is also included in the food offer, but only for 20 August. Among the domestic wineries, the following cellars will be presenting: Paulus Borház, Cseri Winery, Balla Géza Winery, Kányavári Winery, Mokos Winery, Prosecco, -Balatonfelvidék -Fischer Winery, Tokaj wine region- Majoros Estate, Decsics Winery, Strázsai Winery, Rádi Winery, Papp és Fiai Winery , Bezerics Winery And of course, the title holder of this year's Wine of Hévíz is the CÉZÁR Winery, where you can also taste the wine of 2022. On Thursday the Virgonckodók team will start the program to the delight of our youngest guests. On that day, wooden toys and a basket swing are waiting for children. And of course we won't leave them without music, in the afternoon they can party at the Brumi Bandi Band concert at the Tourinform Office. The day doesn't end with children's programs. The Forest next to Deák Square will be the venue for the Amargant Theater Concert three times in the afternoon. The special program as part of the Forest Mystery program series introduces visitors to the mysterious world of the forest surrounding the lake. The music bonanza starts on the stage from 18:00, where you can first hear the party mix of DJ Belo, then the acoustic-electronic performance of Levente Fegyverneki leads the mood to DJ Voksán Virág's evening set. During the day on Friday the field belongs to the children again, this time the team of Virgonckodók brings two escape rooms to the "green" on Dr. Moll Károly tér. It is worth registering in advance, because the appointments fill up quickly. Children looking for a creative activity will not be left without a program either, as the Magic Sounds playhouse at the Tourinform office will keep them busy. The game is accompanied by music, from 18:00 the Cséplő-Poór Jazzy Duo entertains the audience with cheerful tunes. At the same time, the evening program begins on the stage, a Caribbean dance hall called Salsa Días Brillantes begins. After the dance, we can listen to a show by Boglárka Laczák and Szabolcs Bognár interspersed with musical and operetta melodies. In the evening, we can welcome the weekend with a wild concert by Odett, a singer from Zala. On Saturday a bubble arcade and a wooden toy park await children who want to play already in the early afternoon. This time, there is also a stage show for the little ones, as the Harisnáy Pipik invite them on a magical journey around the world. Afterwards, Jenő Őri & Iván Roman entertain the audience with violin and piano recitals. If it's a wine program, then MASZK's musical theater about wine fits into the evening stylistically. The main event of the evening will be the concert of the Muzsikás Együttes. On Sunday we can rest during the day for the past three days, and then in the evening we can say goodbye to the holiday weekend at the M.É.Z. With its Irish dance ensemble show and the Jag Projekt party. Good atmosphere and good music are guaranteed, you won't get bored with us! Come and celebrate with us! Detailed programs here.

tartalom:+ 1 We did not find any description of whether the miners, 200 of them, volunteered for the 5-year scientific observation, having no idea how well they would do. After a thorough medical examination, 400 healthy subjects were selected for the test. Based on experience, the basic premise was that 5 years of hard physical work is very taxing for the body, so miners develop more locomotor complaints after so many years, the number of partial disabilities increases and the rate of illnesses is higher. It is a well-known fact that musculoskeletal diseases are very common among people living unhealthy and/or sedentary lifestyles, as well as people who perform heavy physical work. In this regard, numerous investigations were carried out both at home and abroad in the 1960s and 1970s. What did they want to prove? At the same time, the doctors in Hévíz believed that balneotherapy (performed with water) and physiotherapeutic (performed with movement) cures in Hévíz are useful in preventing such diseases. Preventive treatment can reduce the risk of developing locomotor diseases, workers will spend less time in sick bays, and the cost of their medical treatments will be lower. In 1976, 400 miners were found to be healthy. 200 of them were included in the control group, those who had not been on a medical holiday in Hévíz for 5 years, had not received any health-preserving treatment anywhere. However, the other 200 lucky miners spent 3 weeks in the spa town every year, at the cost of their vacation, where they swam in the warm water of Lake Hévíz, received massage and mud treatments, took part in physical therapy, and received additional treatments. The preventive cures in Hévíz were not only useful and enjoyable for the 200 miners, but the research also ended with very positive results. After 5 years, in 1981, at the then Hévíz State Spa Hospital, it was established that among the 200 miners in the "untreated" control group, significantly more people became disabled and spent significantly more time in the infirmary than those who received preventive treatment. The health status of the regularly treated group clearly remains much better despite the same and equally demanding hard physical work as the control group. But this was not enough proof of the effectiveness of typical Hévíz medicinal water cures! In 1988, another study was conducted at the Hévíz State Spa Hospital, now involving 227 volunteers. In the 1980s, they tried to convince employers why it was worth sending their employees on medical leave. In the case of the 227 people, they were interested in the number of days spent in the patient population. However, the extent of this can mean a significant loss of manpower/a decrease in productivity for a company. They selected 227 patients who were treated with the same locomotor complaint, but 107 of them received medication only, while 120 were treated with a complex spa treatment repeated every year. An astonishing result was achieved in the examined period! The 120 patients who received regular spa treatments spent a total of 885 days in the hospital. In contrast, the 107 members of the control group spent 5,430 days! That's six times the number! This is such a significant difference that it had to be recognized that spa treatments regenerate people much more effectively. Today, it is considered natural that preventive and recreational complex cures and health programs are important not only for those who perform heavy physical work. In Europe, more and more people are participating in so-called manager cures, which serve to regenerate the physical and mental performance of managers who are overburdened with mental work. These are periods of two to three weeks, during which the participants run a lot, swim, eat healthy, and relax, which in many cases includes a digital detox (a period without smart devices). Don't have time for such a long vacation? Don't be discouraged! Try an intensive health program in Hévíz and you have already taken the first step towards a fitter Me. tartalom:+ 1 The first international professional meeting of the project took place on 15 January 2025 in Hévíz, in NaturMed Hotel Carbona. The aim of the event was to strengthen the partnership and define a common framework for sustainable tourism development. Sustainable tourism development based on the standards of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) was launched in Slovenia exactly a decade ago this year, and today 95% of all guest nights generated in the country are realized in destinations with international sustainability certification. In international recognition of the work accomplished, Jana Apih, Head of the Green Destinations Representation in Slovenia, was elected Executive Director of Green Destinations in November 2024. This is why it is outstanding that the preparatory programs implemented in the project are implemented jointly by the Slovenian and Hungarian Green Destinations representations. However, this is only one of the project elements of the complex destination development project, since the seven participating partners, Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd., Pannon European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation, Murska Sobota Development Centre, Lendava Institute of Tourism and Development, Goodplace – Institute of Sustainable Tourism, Sárvár Tourist & TDM Non-profit Ltd. and Innotime Hungary Consulting and Service Ltd. have the primary objective of unified tourism in the Slovenian-Hungarian border region. Sustainability development, including the development of a local product program, the assessment of legal and professional obstacles to cross-border tourism product development and the mapping of their solutions, as well as the implementation of destination-level sustainability pilot projects will be carried out in the next nearly two years. The project partners described in detail their role in the project and the tasks ahead. In the first panel, representatives of the destinations participating in the project, the staff of Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd., Sárvár Tourist & TDM Nonprofit Kft., Murska Sobota Development Center and the Lendava Institute of Tourism and Development outlined their plans. The second panel gave the two Green Destinations representations and the Pannon European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation the opportunity to detail their objectives and plans, while the afternoon program presented how the project helps local entrepreneurs to obtain sustainability certifications and expand the tourism offer. The partners held the first partner meeting, during which they reviewed the reporting and communication requirements of the project, established the Steering Committee and set out the steps for the implementation of the project. tartalom:+ 1 The first rectangular bathhouse, consisting of two buildings, was built in 1795 by the landowner Count I. Festetics György. The news on the benefits of the medicinal water reached Vienna in 1801, and the presence of the white water lilies in the lake was already mentioned in a memoir in 1818. Additional Indian species were planted to these water lilies in 1898. In 1858, afforestation around the lake, modernisation of the spa buildings and development of the lakeside buildings for guests started. In the centre of the lake, the male and female mirror baths (baths surrounded with cabins) were located, but many people still used the sluice of Hévíz, which was wider that time, for swimming. Spa Hévíz in the 1910s and 1920s From 1905, leaseholder Reichl Vencel did his best to develop Hévíz into an international spa town. The former bathhouse was replaced by a domed building, and it is also due to him that a number of modern accommodation and restaurants, and the „Cure Salon”, essential to the health resort, were built. In 1907, on the site of the old built bridge, a roofed bridge was erected and the characteristic two-towered main entrance was completed. In the same year, the Sanatorium and Spa Hotel of Hévíz was built. In 1911, the town received the „spa resort-like settlement” title. Wearing a swimsuit meant covering up, not showing off. Yet over the following decades, the baggy skirts disappeared, and swimsuits slowly started to resemble what we know today.
tartalom:+ 1 Since when do we go to the beach to "swim and sunbathe"? Bathing became a trend in Europe—especially in England and France—from the mid-19th century. Brighton, Biarritz, Scheveningen: these places saw the birth of the first “bathing fashions.” Although trends didn’t spread nearly as fast as they do today via Insta posts and social media, Hungary wasn’t far behind the Western bathing culture. The first bathing house on Lake Balaton opened in 1864 in Keszthely (for men), followed by similar structures in Balatonfüred and Siófok. These were more like changing cabins built onto piers, with separate facilities for men and women. Entering the water was guided more by etiquette and medical advice than by fun. We can proudly say that therapeutic spas like Hévíz introduced bath cabins much earlier, especially upon medical recommendation. In Hévíz, the first bathhouse on stilts was already built in 1795—meaning that bathers came to Lake Hévíz even before Lake Balaton became popular. Long Skirts and Puffy Trousers But back to our main topic—what did our predecessors actually consider "swimwear"? Primarily, it was an outfit designed for walking along the beach. Going into the water or sunbathing was out of the question. The seashore was mainly recommended for the benefit of salty sea air. The beach attire covered nearly every part of the body, and parasols were a must-have for ladies, as tanned skin was not appropriate in aristocratic and bourgeois circles. Simply put, it was considered too “common.” Some, of course, couldn’t resist the temptation of the water. For them, swimming wasn’t even an option—they were lucky if they didn’t get too wet in their "bathing" outfits, which looked something like this: Long skirt – down to the ankles, to hide the legs Baggy trousers underneath – for modesty Waist belt or drawstring – to keep the dress in place in the water Long-sleeved blouse – often with a collar Hat or head covering – to protect from the sun Materials: flannel, linen, or thick wool. These fabrics held their shape well when dry—but became extremely heavy when wet! Light colors were typically chosen, since the many layers already made the outfits warm enough—dark colors would’ve made things even worse. Subtle Modernization, or the Era When Calves No Longer Had to Be Hidden By the end of the 19th century, expectations began to change. As more people ventured into the water, skirts became shorter—now only just below the knees—so the trousers underneath also became shorter and less baggy. Eventually, separate skirts and blouses were replaced by a single-piece tunic-style garment for simplicity and safety. The new swimwear often featured large collars and sailor-style motifs. Colors were mostly navy blue or black, often with stripes. The darker colors helped ensure the thinner garments remained opaque when wet. In the 1910s–1920s, swimsuits began shrinking rapidly Starting in the 1910s, swimming gained popularity—especially among women. Swimwear fashion followed this shift toward practicality, led by figures like Australian swimming champion and actress Annette Kellerman. In 1907, she was even arrested in the U.S. for wearing a one-piece, body-hugging swimsuit. That event only added fuel to the fire, accelerating the modern transformation of swimwear, which coincided with the rise of women’s emancipation. Sleeveless tops appeared almost out of nowhere (even in casual wear), and swimsuits were sometimes one-piece, sometimes two-piece. Trousers were shortened to mid-thigh, and eventually to much shorter lengths. The resulting scandal led to enforced swimsuit regulations, including mandatory length measurements—sometimes checked with tape measures! Wool still dominated in materials, but now with thinner weaves. Large hats were replaced by headscarves or swim caps, not for sun protection but to keep hair in place. Still, the suits remained heavy (and dark), especially when wet. Elastic Fabric Revolutionizes Swimwear in the 1920s–30s This change wasn’t driven primarily by new attitudes, but by a new invention: Lastex, a rubber-threaded textile. Thanks to this material, swimsuits in the 1920s became form-fitting. Skirts disappeared completely, and necklines and backlines grew bolder. The elastic fabric allowed for snug-fitting, stretchy, and—most importantly—fast-drying swimsuits. Less fabric was needed, and color variety exploded on the beaches. Swimwear became not only practical but sexy, too. Film stars of the 1930s—like Jean Harlow or Greta Garbo—graced magazine covers in their swimsuits. Swimwear Fashion at Lake Balaton and in Hévíz Hungarian beach towns like those along Lake Balaton and Hévíz also adopted international swimwear trends. By the late 1920s, women were wearing shorter, one-piece swimsuits, and men wore tank-top-style suits. At Lake Hévíz, the clothing remained more conservative due to its medicinal purpose, but sportier swimsuits also became increasingly popular. What Came Next? After World War II, everything changed. In the mid-1940s, French engineer Louis Réard introduced the first bikini—ushering in an entirely new era of swimwear fashion. But that’s another story... Image sources: Fortepan and heviz.hu

tartalom:+ 1 Drink it! The recommended daily water intake is 2 litres for adults. This is the amount that everyone needs for ideal body function. What’s more, in Hévíz, you can also drinksulphurous medicinal water, which is recommended for many people. Drinking Hévíz medicinal water in moderation can relieve stomach aches and bile problems. You cantaste it at the public water fountains. Get in the steam! The sauna is good, many people like it. Hot steam and humid air are an important part of the bathing culture of many civilisations, be it a Roman tepidarium, a Turkish bath, a Japanese onsen or a Finnish sauna. The hot, humid air dilates pores, increases cellular metabolism, refreshes the skin, relaxes the mind and clears the respiratory system. Ice-cold delights! Water vapour is also useful and can be used if it is ice cold. On the one hand, we often cool ourselves with ice cubes, cold water spray or an ice bath after a sauna session, and on the other hand, the cryosauna, which cools the body with temperatures of around minus 140 degrees Celsius, is becoming more and more popular. This freezing treatment takes only two minutes but it is extremely effective. It regenerates cells, alleviates reduced vascular problems, speeds up metabolism and even helps you lose weight. It is no coincidence that competitive athletes used it first for rapid recovery. Inhale water vapour! Having mentioned breathing in hot steam, we should also highlight the other beneficial effects of inhaled vapour. Inhaling water vapour can provide the body with manyvaluable substances, which can be rapidly absorbed. You can think of oxygen therapy, for example, or the mist floating above the lake, which contains gaseous substances that, when inhaled, enhance the healing effect. Hydromassage for everyone! Probably no one has ever been to a spa without standing/ sitting under a water massage jet. The massaging effect of water has been used for a long time, so it's almostubiquitous in spas, wellness and adventure baths. However, water jet massage is not just a simple muscle-relaxing spa experience; it is also a significant treatment. It is also used in Hévíz carried out in a 34-37 degree Celsius water bath under the name of Tangentor therapy. Depending on the strength of the water jet, it can even move deeper muscle layers, and it causes an increase in blood flow to the treated area and has a good effect on lymphatic circulation. It is one of the most popular procedures for post-operative care. Electricity conducted into water? Why not? It may sound strange, as most people learn at an early age that it is not advisable to dry our hair in the bathtub. However, there are occasions when conducting electricity into the water - much less than 220 V, of course - can be useful. One of these occasions is called the galvanic bath, which is mostly used to relieve arthritis and pain. This treatment should only be used under medical supervision and on a therapeutic basis. Typically, the hands and feet are placed in hot water while a low current is passed through the body thanks to the conductivity of the water. Splash! Of course, the best way to enjoy the water is to take a bath in it. From refreshing showers and adventure pools to the thermal water of Lake Hévíz, there's hardly a place where you can't spend precious minutes and hours in hot water. It is relaxing, stress relieving and beneficial for the whole body. Doing sports in water is the most joint-friendly form of exercise, so you can now join aqua fitness and aqua spinning classes in many places. Swimming exercises the whole body, but just floating in the silky hot water of Lake Hévíz can also do a lot to keep you fit.

lead: When winter arrives in Hévíz, relaxation takes on a whole new meaning.
Warm thermal waters, gentle wellness treatments, and a peaceful atmosphere create the perfect setting for rest and regeneration.
For senior guests, Hévíz in winter offers a unique balance of comfort, health, and tranquility.
tartalom:+ 1 There is something truly magical about winter arriving in Hévíz. The air turns crisp, steam rises from the lake, and the town slows down a little… and that is exactly what makes it so special. For senior visitors, Hévíz becomes one of the most relaxing destinations at this time of year: warm thermal waters, peaceful walks, and wellness in every form. Here are a few tips on how to make the most of a winter getaway in Hévíz! 1. Steaming thermal water – winter at its best If there is one place where winter and wellness are a perfect match, it is Lake Hévíz. The contrast between the warm water and the chilly air is relaxation in itself. Bathing sessions of 20–30 minutes are ideal in winter: they warm the body, ease muscle tension, and are gentle on the joints. Tip: In the morning, the lake is even calmer and more peaceful, creating a truly intimate atmosphere. 2. Winter spa treatments – when your body warms up too Winter is especially beneficial for warm therapeutic treatments. At this time of year, massages, mud therapies, and weight bath treatments somehow feel even more effective. Among senior guests, favorites include pleasantly warm medicinal mud that helps the body relax, indoor physiotherapy sessions led by experienced professionals, and underwater massage for those seeking a little extra pampering. A multi-day spa treatment can work wonders, especially for joints tired from the winter cold. 3. Indoor wellness – when you feel like staying inside all day Hévíz’s wellness hotels are a true refuge in winter as well: adventure pools, whirlpools, steam cabins, infrared saunas – everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing day indoors. Especially recommended for senior guests: Infrared sauna, as it provides gentle, joint-friendly warmth Steam cabin, ideal if the dry winter air irritates the respiratory system Quiet relaxation pools – in many hotels, mornings feel almost like having the place to yourself 4. Pampering in a winter atmosphere: Quiet wellness – aromatherapy and relaxation In winter, Hévíz seems to have a different scent: more spicy, calmer, more cozy. This atmosphere pairs perfectly with seasonal wellness treatments: lavender or citrus aromatherapy circulation-boosting foot massage hydrating facial treatments to protect the skin from the cold Each treatment feels a bit like a mini wellness celebration. 5.
