tartalom: + 1 Indian waterlilies, mosquitofishes, ides, little grebes, dice snakes, bald cypresses, cyanophytes… Just a few to see how many unique and diverse species live together in the lake, the stream and forest that surrounds them.   The most photographed The Indian waterlily which is indigenous in Bengal (Nymphaea rubra var. loniflora), was planted into Lake Hévíz in 1898 by Sándor Lovassy an agricultural engineer from Keszthely. The pink flowers are usually only 5-7 centimetres above the water. At the moment, the flowers start to bloom in the late evening, and they close their petals in the morning. On the other hand, the smaller white waterlilies (Nymphaea alba L.var. minor) are already indigenous in the thermal water of Hévíz. At the moment, they are not present in the lake, but you can spot them in the Hévíz stream.   The smallest In the water, many strains of bacteria can be also found. There are two species of bacteria which can only be found in Hévíz including the miscromonospora of Hévíz (Micromonospora heviziensis).   The most protected The little grebe is the most protected species at the Lake. In Hungary, they can only survive the winter here. By the stream, we can see many families but sometimes they build a nest at the Lake as well.  Once they nested at one of the stairs leading into the water, so the guests of the Lake could see them from up close. Unlike other grebe species, the little grebe not only eats fish but smaller organisms as well.   The biggest The road leading to Hévíz is called Festetics alley, which is a beautiful alley filled with enormous bald cypresses. The breathtaking cypresses are from North America, in Hévíz you can meet them in the protective forest around the lake. Unlike other cypresses, its leaves become red during the autumn, and the leaves completely fall off in the winter. They are wonderful to see both in the summer with their green crowns and during the autumn with golden and reddish leaves.   The prettiest The common kingfisher doesn’t have a regular nesting place, but they can be spotted in Hévíz quite frequently. Most of the times we can see them by the Hévíz stream.   The ones with the best smell We also have a beautiful pink flower to show you, which most of times live rooting into the mud. The flowering rush grows even 2 metres above the water surface. They bloom from June to August, and they usually spread by scattering their seeds on the water.   Tourists and residents There are some who only come back for the summer, while other come for the winter. During the spring many bird species return to Hévíz like the barn swallows, the common house martins and then the Eurasian coots. The great cormorant can be often spotted by the streams, the grey herons and egrets also like to visit us from time to time from the Kis-Balaton areas. Many ducks already feel at home by the water of the Lake.   If you have problems with mosquitoes… There is a small fish in the Lake of Hévíz which has a great appetite for mosquitoes! The so-called mosquito fishes are not indigenous in Hévíz, however, they definitely feel at home in our waters. Many other tropical fishes can be also found in the stream who enjoy the warmer water.   The most frightening The dice snake definitely looks frightening to some, but in reality it is a really peaceful animal who likes to live in the water. It is only a 75-100 centimetre long and as its name suggests its back is filled with little black shapes.     There are many things to explore regarding the unique flora and fauna of Hévíz. Animal petting, folk plays, horse carriages and the traditional Hungarian ’springling’ will wait guests. In Gyenesdiás, the spring festivities starts a week before Easter: on 8 April the market opens its gates again. Not only local wineries were invited to the competition, but many other wineries from different parts of the country. 25 producers from 12 wine regions of Zala and Balaton submitted a total of 50 items for the gastronomic battle. 22 grape varieties - Welsh Riesling, Savignon Blanc, "Ezerjó", Zenit, Patria, "Cserszegi fűszeres" - represented the selection.   The process The wines were judged on 22 April at the NaturMed Hotel Carbona. The items were first judged by a professional jury. The main patron of the event was Ágnes Diána Sárdy PhD, Director of the MATE Buda Campus, Associate Professor. The members of the jury were Barna Szőke PhD, chaired by MATE, Deputy Research Director of the Institute of Viticulture and Enology of Badacsony, Barnabás Kovács PhD, assistant professor of wine, Sándor Viniczai, editor-in-chief of wine booklets, Zsolt Vaszily CEO of Carbona, Tamás Borbély - President of the Badacsony Wine Region, Wine Producer of the Year, owner of the Borbély Family Winery, Winemaker, and last but not least Mrs. Beatrix Sütőné Tüttő was representing the city of Hévíz. The wine was selected with the usual blind tasting. This means that only the type and year were given to the jury members. Well-known Hungarian experts evaluated the wines using an electronic 100-point grading system. During the scoring, in a close competition, 7 lots were finally presented to the social jury, who judged the wines using the same system.     Who became the winner? Cezar Winery Kis Balaton - Savignon Blanc 2021 vintage white wine.   What does the winner get? In addition to wearing the honorary title for a full year, they will have the opportunity to present themselves at the 4-day Wine and Gastro Festival in August. The honorary diplomas accompanying the title will be presented at the jHappy Peace Times on April 30, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm.   Where can I taste / buy it? The winning wine is already on the market and has already received its special decorative label. János József Kepli, Deputy Mayor of Hévíz and Secretary of State Bálint Nagy gave a festive speech to the large crowd gathered at the foot of the Árpád-era church. In his speech, József Kepli called the construction of the Calvary an important milestone in the life of Hévíz and Egregy, as it enabled one of the most important elements of Egregy's urban rehabilitation efforts to be realized. After the excavation and presentation of the ruins of the Villa Rustica, the preservation of the grave of the Roman soldier, the construction of the Egregyi Museum, the renovation of the Romanesque-style cemetery chapel and the renovation of the wine cellar, it is a great pleasure that such a beautiful, new, natural place that provides an opportunity for reflection was created. The calvary is not only a confession of our faith for Hévíz and the region, but also a significant step forward from the point of view of religious tourism, emphasized State Secretary Bálint Nagy in his speech. The length of the promenade consisting of 14 stations is about 300 meters, and the difference in level from the starting point to the cross is 23.5 meters. The calvary ascends in the direction of the Árpád-era church. Its design is characterized by simplicity and moderation. Trees offer shade in the surroundings of the walkway made of natural materials, and in some sections it is possible to rest and meditate. The materials used fits well into the landscape. The artistic works of his stations were created by Tibor Túri Török. At the end of the Calvary, a wooden cross was added. Next to the cross there is also a stone sculpture representing an empty tomb, which symbolizes the resurrection of Christ. At the end of our walk, we come to the north side of the monument cemetery chapel, so we can also admire the small Romanesque church built in the first half of the 13th century. lead: August is traditionally the month of wine programs in the settlements on the shores of Lake Balaton and nearby. This is also the case in Hévíz, where the busiest program series of the year, the Hévíz Wine and Gastronomy Festival starts on August 18.

During the four days of the festival, you can meet blue-painted porters, handmade dolls, basket sellers, textile sellers, jewelry makers, ceramicists, but you may also buy goat cheese, smoked goods, homemade syrup, and handmade mustard. In addition to the vendors, there will be wine and food stalls waiting for the guests. This year we are preparing 30 types of "lángos", vegetable pies, vegan offerings, but of course also traditional wine-biscuits. In fact, fish soup is also included in the food offer, but only for 20 August. The music bonanza starts on the stage from 18:00, where you can first hear the party mix of DJ Belo, then the acoustic-electronic performance of Levente Fegyverneki leads the mood to DJ Voksán Virág's evening set. During the day on Friday the field belongs to the children again, this time the team of Virgonckodók brings two escape rooms to the "green" on Dr. Moll Károly tér. It is worth registering in advance, because the appointments fill up quickly. Children looking for a creative activity will not be left without a program either, as the Magic Sounds playhouse at the Tourinform office will keep them busy. The game is accompanied by music, from 18:00 the Cséplő-Poór Jazzy Duo entertains the audience with cheerful tunes. At the same time, the evening program begins on the stage, a Caribbean dance hall called Salsa Días Brillantes begins. After the dance, we can listen to a show by Boglárka Laczák and Szabolcs Bognár interspersed with musical and operetta melodies. In the evening, we can welcome the weekend with a wild concert by Odett, a singer from Zala. On Saturday a bubble arcade and a wooden toy park await children who want to play already in the early afternoon. This time, there is also a stage show for the little ones, as the Harisnáy Pipik invite them on a magical journey around the world. Afterwards, Jenő Őri & Iván Roman entertain the audience with violin and piano recitals. If it's a wine program, then MASZK's musical theater about wine fits into the evening stylistically. The temperature of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36 °C in summer even with rain and wind. If the rain bothers you, you can also relax in the warm water in the building above the lake. Water lilies open up when it rains, and when the air temperature is cooler than the water temperature, one may even be surprised, since the warm water lake is usually steaming!     Summer is not just about the beaches! In the Keszthely Mountains you can choose from easy  to extreme hiking trails. tartalom: + 1 The Kányavár Island The arched wooden bridge built of wooden beams in the eighties has now become a symbol of Kis-Balaton. We can enjoy a wonderful view of the groves from the bridge. We can admire special waterfowl such as the great egret, the gray heron, or the cormorant, which is less popular with anglers. On the 1.5-kilometer-long "Búbosvöcsök" educational trail, 15 boards show the fish, birds and mammals living in the Kis-Balaton region. You can also go fishing on the island and look at the water and the hills of Zala from two lookout towers.   If you would rather go inside... The Kis-Balaton Visitor Center is the latest exhibition in the Balaton Uplands National Park. An excellent choice for the whole family all year round, with the interactive exhibition even the little ones won't get bored! On the green roof structure of the building, which resembles game passages, you can walk on an interactive educational trail. From here you can clearly see the winter bird feeders and hear birds chirping. There is a gift shop and restaurant in the building as well, and children can enjoy the fresh air in the playground in the courtyard, while parents can refresh themselves with coffee. The cinema is part of the exhibition, where we can get to know the winter-summer, autumn-spring wildlife of Kis-Balaton through touching quotes from the novels of István Fekete Tüskevár and Téli berek during a half-hour film, all in the interpretive interpretation of Gábor Reviczky.     In the interactive part of the exhibition, we can find out what invasive species are and why do they mean danger to the flora and fauna of the region. It turns out what the role of Kis-Balaton is in the protection of the water quality of Lake Balaton, and we can even examine water samples ourselves. If you want to see even more of this magical world, you can take part in a canoe tour organized by the Balaton Uplands National Park from early spring to late autumn. It is only possible to paddle on the Hévíz stream until the mid-March, but on the Gyöngyös stream, which carries the water of the Hévíz stream towards Lake Balaton, the regular tours are available during the year as well. The end point of the rowing tour is Diás Island, where the hut of Matula evokes the atmosphere of the groves. At the István Fekete Memorial next to the small wooden hut, you could also delve into the hidden wonders of Kis-Balaton during a very interesting exhibition.   Secret sights off the beaten path Most places in Kis-Balaton like the Diás Island can only be visited with a guide, but there are quite a few romantic and protected areas that can be explored freely without a guide. Next to the river Zala, you can find the 'Madárvárta' at the dam of Lake Hídvégi, which was built by students from Zurich. The building was made of thousands of acacia logs without any nails or screws. Next to the parking lot, about 100 meters away, you can find the 'fish ladder', where you can marvel at the cavalcade of fish in the spring. The fish ladder between the river Zala and Lake Hidvégi slows down the flow of water, so fish can easily swim in the opposite direction.     Buffaloes and other animal species In the buffalo reserve in Kápolnapuszta, you can not only see buffalos but you can also spot susliks lurking in the grass! Even in the early 20th century, the ground squirrel was considered harmful and therefore water was into their passages, so they would be forced to move away. Other spectacular animals are the goats and donkeys in the petting zoo. In the colonies carved into the loess wall, the bee-eaters stand out with their brightly colored feathers.     But what about buffaloes? The Balaton Uplands National Park started breeding water buffaloes in 1992 in an area purchased for gene conservation. The reserve is home to the largest herd of buffalo in the country, living in great peace with the gray cattles. During the winter, the animals spend most of their time in the barn near the entrance, where we can see the traditional stock-farming in a cozy old photo next to the buffaloes. In better weather, the animals are on pasture, which is most easily reached by horse-drawn carriage ordered in the centre building. The so called black giants are also “buffalo-strong” and don’t necessarily always approach people with friendly intentions. Driving through in the pastures with a horse-drawn carriage is like being on safari. A novelty in the area of ​​the reserve is the lookout tower, which was handed over on January 28, 2022, where we can now observe the animals from up above.   The Kis-Balaton House: a cultural travel Next to the foundation walls of the former church of St. Adorjan and the Cyril and Methodius Memorial Column, you could enjoy the photos of the wonders of Zala County in a Millennium Monument designed by Imre Makovecz. In the letters hanging from the top of the special-shaped dome, you can read the names of the settlements of the county. At the exhibition of the Kis-Balaton House you can find out about the wildlife, and the children can have fun on the playground. Next to the Kis-Balaton House, you can reach the island of Kanyavár on an asphalted bike path on the bank of the river Zala. You can also rent a bike at the Kis-Balaton House. (Opening: March 12. We have collected some wineries to get you started:   This Year’s Winner The guest of honor of Hévíz Wine and Gastro Promenade will be the Cézár Winery. A Savignon Blanc from 2021 was titled Wine of the City this year, which you can taste at the stand of the winery as well. The winery has 100 hectares of vineyards and was built in 2006 in Nagyrada, not too far from Kis-Balaton. Previously, several lands were purchased in the area and several red wine grapes were planted alongside the white varieties. Until the winery was built, there were many varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sírah, Pinot Noir, Malbec Cabernet Franc. The winery belongs to the Zala wine region, and it is the largest plant in the Zala region with its 2,500 m2 land.
