lead: We organised the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon for the first time this year. Here's what happened on 27 November!

tartalom: + 1 The competition was organised by the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd., the Balaton Uplands National Park, the Saint Andrew Rheumatological Hospital, the Vadlán Runners and the Vidra Water cruise team. More than 30 additional volunteers took part in the event. A special competition The goal of the organizers was to create a new sport competition that is also unique nationwide. They not only paired two completely different sports (rowing and running) as a duathlon but they have also chosen a very special venue. The Hévíz stream leads away the warm running water of Lake Hévíz, so despite the winter weather, you can row on a pleasantly warm, steaming stream. The date of the competition was also predetermined by the conditions of the location, as rowing on the Hévíz stream is only possible from November to March. As the stream belongs to the local national park, canoeing is strictly forbidden outside the given period since it would disturb the flora and fauna especially in the breeding season in summer. So it is no coincidence that the late autumn date has been chosen. The aim of the organizer, the Hévíz Tourism Non-profit Ltd. was also to draw attention to the importance of exercise, active recreation in nature and a healthy lifestyle. They wanted to prove that Hévíz is not only a paradise for lovers of healing and wellness, but it can also offer many values ​​and opportunities for athletes at any time of the year. The competition itself 83 starting teams, a total of 146 competitors arrived at the water-gate of the Hévíz stream to get into the water by canoe, kayak or SUP, and to make their way to Fenékpuszta which is about 10 kilometres away. Participants were able to bring their own watercrafts but those who didn’t have their own were also able to rent a canoe on the spot. After completing the 10-kilometre water distance, the participants were able to leave the boats at the transfer point and change their water vehicle for running shoes. After this their task was to run back on the same route on the embankment next to the Hévíz stream to finally reach the finish line at the beach of Lake Hévíz. The race has started on November 27 at 9 am, when the first canoe on the Hévíz stream in the direction of Fenékpuszta set off. The participants started the competition periodically, a new canoe set sail in almost every second minute. The last runner arrived back at the Hévíz Lake Bath beach area at 3 pm. All participants received the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon medal. THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE FIRST DUATLON Pre-registration for the competition was open until November 19th. In the morning of November 27, 83 competitors finally set out to complete the approximately 21-kilometer distance, including rowing and then running. All together 48 two or three-member teams and 35 individual participants (28 men, 7 women) set off. We welcomed ultra-runners, kayakers and amateur athletes among the competitors. No one gave up the race, all starters covered the distance without accident, so in the end all 146 competitors received the HEVIZIBIVALY medals. THE FINALISTS TEAMS: BL Team (#49) with a time of 2:10:04. Tamás Kolb and Judit Maléth (#54) with a time result of 2:15:28. Tamás Horváth and Gábor Major (#8), with a time result of 2:15:42. IN THE INDIVIDUAL WOMEN'S CATEGORY Éva Berekalli (#79) with a time result of 2:16:35. Helga Szidónia Kőhalmi (#71) with a time result of 2:18:23. Anita Galliné Szabó (#68) with a time result of 2:26:27. IN THE INDIVIDUAL MEN 'S CATEGORY Álmos Kassai (#84) with a time result of 1:42:16. József Friedrich (#89) with a time result of 1:52:58. Zoltán Csécsei (#92) with a time result of 1:55:42. A special award was given to the fastest SUP competitor Kornél Kazai. The success of the competition and the sincere enthusiasm of the competitors confirmed the organizers to organise the HEVIZIBIVALY Duathlon competition again and again every year during the winter, if they can. We want more and more people to prove that they do have the buffalo power too! We truly hope that every participant has enjoyed the race! See you next year as well! And lastly…   Why the competition is called ‘HEVIZIBIVALY’ 'HEVIZIBIVALY' means 'buffalo from Hévíz' in Hungarian. Barely 50 years ago, water buffaloes were trampled along the bed of the Hévíz stream several times a year. The buffalos were driven here from the area to walk up and down in the creek bed. As the bed of the stream was always full of plants, the buffalos trampling down the plants ensured that the water flowed continuously and evenly in the direction of Lake Balaton. Buffaloes still live in several places in the area today, but they no longer have the task of cleaning the creek bed.   This year our competitors have proven that they have the power of a buffalo. Hévíz Buffalo Duathlon The spring season was opened by the Hévíz Buffalo Duathlon competition on March 2nd in Hévíz, with more than 220 enthusiastic participants who rowed 10 kilometers on the Hévíz stream and then ran back to Hévíz on the shores of the world-famous spa lake to receive their finishing medals.   March 29 – April 1. Easter Whirlwind in Hévíz In connection with the Easter holiday round, we are waiting for guests with crafts, stalls, a playhouse and musical programs throughout the weekend. During the weekend, the following will perform: Chanson Brass, Márton Palkovics, Vagabond Ensemble, Anita Kun and Lajos Kovács, Gyöngyözön, Start 40 Band. The children will be entertained by Playhouse and Game Park. The celebratory mass of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church and the Easter procession will take place on Saturday at 19:30.    April 5-6. Wind chaser  The organizers welcome young and old to the museum garden in Egregy. As part of the Wind Chaser program, you can count on creative and outdoor playful programs such as making pinwheels and flying paper kites. April 26-27. XII. Happy Peacetimes of Hévíz The Happy Peacetimes event in Hévíz, which closes April, cannot be missed this year either. On Friday we are tuning in to the event at the music pavilion on Schulhof Vilmos promenade.  May 17-20. Pentecost Picnic Visitors to Hévíz will not be without programs during the long Pentecost weekend. On Friday evening, from 7:00 p.m., the first Moonlight Bath of the year will be held in the Hévíz Lake Bath, which is also special, as such an event only takes place twice a year in Hévíz. On the weekend, guests are not only welcomed in Hévíz with musical programs and a flea market, but there will be another Super Hero program for families. May 26. VI. Intersport Hévíz Run The final chord of the spring programs is another sporty family day. For the 6th time this year, you can participate in the Hévíz Running Festival, where all members of the family can choose between different distances, individual and team categories. The programs are typically followed by great interest in the city, and the day full of competitions will end with a big concert.   SUMMER Fewer festivals can be expected in the summer, but our guests will not be left without programs. On Festetics Square and at the Musicpavilon, small concerts will entertain guests every week, and you can count on many smaller programs organized by service providers. June 21. Carry on the light! HelloHévíz Association welcomes participants to the traditional St. Midsummer's Eve program again this year. The torchlight parade is interspersed with musical programs, which will take place partly in the city center and partly in Egregy. July 11-14. Beer Promenade In July, beer and a bit of a retro atmosphere will once again play a central role in the city center. The selection of the tasty beer houses will be colored by beer skates, while the good atmosphere will be ensured by the following performers: DR BRS & Giccsparty, Sipos F. Tamás, Viktor Király, DJ SOMX, Kefir, Irish folk musicians and dancers, tango accordion band, Fáni Németh and his band, Auth Csilla, Fantasy Orchestra. In the afternoons, children are entertained by playhouses, crafts and children's shows. August 16-20. Hévíz Wine and Gastronomy festival Children's programs, fine wines, a good atmosphere and a diverse range of concerts await you at the Hévíz wine festival. Expected performers: The Biebers, Dér Heni, István Bősárkányi Társulat's adaptation of the king, Szalonna and his band, Happy Dixieland Band, Bácska Tambura band and Beatles memorial band - The organizers reserve the right to change the program! AUTUMN September 13. Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz The second and last moonlight bath of the year will be held in the Hévíz Tófürdő on what we hope will be a pleasantly warm Friday evening, September 13. Hot water is guaranteed in addition to atmospheric music.   September 20-21. Waterlily FolkFest The autumn festival period in Hévíz ends with the festival of folk dancers. The local children's and adult dance groups and invited performers dazzle the audience for two days with Hungarian folk music and authentic dances. lead: Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton are quite popular destinations in Hungary. Daily, more than ten thousand people spend their holidays in this beautiful region. However, we might raise the question: what do we know and what should we know about the two most iconic lakes of Hungary?

tartalom: + 1 While Lake Balaton is the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe, Lake Hévíz is the world’s biggest thermal lake that is also suitable for bathing. The source of Lake Balaton is a river called Zala, while Lake Hévíz has its source from a cave underneath the lake. The water of Lake Balaton flows through the Sió channel into the river Danube, however, the water of Lake Hévíz flows into the Gyöngyös stream, then to Small Balaton and ends up in Lake Balaton. The deepest point of Lake Balaton is about 11 metres in contrast to Lake Hévíz, where the source point is 38.5 metres deep. The surface of the water of Lake Balaton is 600 km2 whereas Lake Hévíz has only a 0.0475 km2 water surface. Due to the great water output of Lake Hévíz, the complete water of the lake is replaced in every 72 hours. Regarding Lake Balaton, this phenomenon takes almost two years. The temperature of Lake Balaton can be as high as 28°C on hot summer days; however, during cold winters the upper layers of the water can freeze. The ice can even grow 25 cm thick. On the other hand, the temperature of Lake Hévíz never goes below 23°C, not even in the winter. In the summer, the water of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36°C hot. We would be able to swim around Lake Hévíz in about half an hour if the buildings did not prevent us from doing so. Nonetheless, a week wouldn’t be enough to swim around Lake Balaton. Lake Balaton is full of both summertime and wintertime activities: you can rent a boat or a paddleboat, you can surf, sail and try out many extreme sports, while in the winter you can ice skate or slide if the ice is thick enough. In Lake Hévíz, you may only bath; however, you can do so every day of the year. The water of Lake Balaton is qualified as drinking water, whereas the water of Lake Hévíz is medicinal water also suitable for cures and many people drink it. In Lake Balaton, you can bath all day long, while, in Lake Hévíz, it is advisable to stay only thirty minutes at a time. We can even walk into Lake Balaton from the shores, while into Lake Hévíz we can descend into the water through stairs since the water is 2 metres deep around the shores as well. The typical flora of Lake Balaton is the reed which is mostly located around the shores. Lake Hévíz is famous for the beautiful water lilies that float around the whole Lake. Both lakes are rich in different species of fish. The mud of Lake Balaton is quite popular with kids who love playing with it on the beaches. On the other hand, the mud of Lake Hévíz is favoured by adults, who like to use the mud on their bodies due to its medical benefits. Lake Balaton as a touristic region is the second most popular region in Hungary after Budapest. At the same time, Hévíz, following Budapest, has the greatest number of guest nights in Hungary. Lake Balaton offers spectacular views whether you are watching it in the embrace of monadnocks, admiring it in a storm, or you are taking photos of the birds gathering along the crevasses or of the bellying sails. The crystal clear turquoise colour of Lake Hévíz, the blooming water lilies floating on it, the whirling mist above it, the reflection of the buildings at night, and to be aware that you are floating above 38.5 meters are a mystical feeling. Both Lake Balaton and Lake Hévíz are national treasures, which have evolved over millions of years as they are today. They are not for us, but we enjoy all the good that they can give us. We have to save and protect them so that the future generations would be able to enjoy the unparalleled natural beauty they provide.

tartalom: + 1 The Kányavár Island The arched wooden bridge built of wooden beams in the eighties has now become a symbol of Kis-Balaton. We can enjoy a wonderful view of the groves from the bridge. We can admire special waterfowl such as the great egret, the gray heron, or the cormorant, which is less popular with anglers. On the 1.5-kilometer-long "Búbosvöcsök" educational trail, 15 boards show the fish, birds and mammals living in the Kis-Balaton region. You can also go fishing on the island and look at the water and the hills of Zala from two lookout towers.   If you would rather go inside... The Kis-Balaton Visitor Center is the latest exhibition in the Balaton Uplands National Park. An excellent choice for the whole family all year round, with the interactive exhibition even the little ones won't get bored! On the green roof structure of the building, which resembles game passages, you can walk on an interactive educational trail. From here you can clearly see the winter bird feeders and hear birds chirping. There is a gift shop and restaurant in the building as well, and children can enjoy the fresh air in the playground in the courtyard, while parents can refresh themselves with coffee. The cinema is part of the exhibition, where we can get to know the winter-summer, autumn-spring wildlife of Kis-Balaton through touching quotes from the novels of István Fekete Tüskevár and Téli berek during a half-hour film, all in the interpretive interpretation of Gábor Reviczky.     In the interactive part of the exhibition, we can find out what invasive species are and why do they mean danger to the flora and fauna of the region. It turns out what the role of Kis-Balaton is in the protection of the water quality of Lake Balaton, and we can even examine water samples ourselves. If you want to see even more of this magical world, you can take part in a canoe tour organized by the Balaton Uplands National Park from early spring to late autumn. It is only possible to paddle on the Hévíz stream until the mid-March, but on the Gyöngyös stream, which carries the water of the Hévíz stream towards Lake Balaton, the regular tours are available during the year as well. The end point of the rowing tour is Diás Island, where the hut of Matula evokes the atmosphere of the groves. At the István Fekete Memorial next to the small wooden hut, you could also delve into the hidden wonders of Kis-Balaton during a very interesting exhibition.   Secret sights off the beaten path Most places in Kis-Balaton like the Diás Island can only be visited with a guide, but there are quite a few romantic and protected areas that can be explored freely without a guide. Next to the river Zala, you can find the 'Madárvárta' at the dam of Lake Hídvégi, which was built by students from Zurich. The building was made of thousands of acacia logs without any nails or screws. Next to the parking lot, about 100 meters away, you can find the 'fish ladder', where you can marvel at the cavalcade of fish in the spring. The fish ladder between the river Zala and Lake Hidvégi slows down the flow of water, so fish can easily swim in the opposite direction.     Buffaloes and other animal species In the buffalo reserve in Kápolnapuszta, you can not only see buffalos but you can also spot susliks lurking in the grass! Even in the early 20th century, the ground squirrel was considered harmful and therefore water was into their passages, so they would be forced to move away. Other spectacular animals are the goats and donkeys in the petting zoo. In the colonies carved into the loess wall, the bee-eaters stand out with their brightly colored feathers.     But what about buffaloes? The Balaton Uplands National Park started breeding water buffaloes in 1992 in an area purchased for gene conservation. The reserve is home to the largest herd of buffalo in the country, living in great peace with the gray cattles. During the winter, the animals spend most of their time in the barn near the entrance, where we can see the traditional stock-farming in a cozy old photo next to the buffaloes. In better weather, the animals are on pasture, which is most easily reached by horse-drawn carriage ordered in the centre building. The so called black giants are also “buffalo-strong” and don’t necessarily always approach people with friendly intentions. Driving through in the pastures with a horse-drawn carriage is like being on safari. A novelty in the area of ​​the reserve is the lookout tower, which was handed over on January 28, 2022, where we can now observe the animals from up above.   The Kis-Balaton House: a cultural travel Next to the foundation walls of the former church of St. Adorjan and the Cyril and Methodius Memorial Column, you could enjoy the photos of the wonders of Zala County in a Millennium Monument designed by Imre Makovecz. In the letters hanging from the top of the special-shaped dome, you can read the names of the settlements of the county. At the exhibition of the Kis-Balaton House you can find out about the wildlife, and the children can have fun on the playground. The Municipality of Hévíz City participates as a consortium partner in the project, where a total of 19 partners from 12 countries joined together to jointly develop solutions to mitigate the effects of heat islands in the urban environment. The partner cities, including Hévíz, develop action plans to combat urban 'hotspots' using data analysis, urban planning solutions, regulations and infrastructure measures.As the average summer temperature rises, urban heat islands (UHI) are increasingly forming, which pose a health risk to residents and visitors, especially among the oldest and youngest, as well as sick people. The unprecedented heat waves experienced recently show that there is an urgent need to strengthen the preparedness and adaptability of society and to consciously (re)shape our living spaces in defense against the heat. The aim of the project in Hévíz is to assess the city's hottest spots and develop solutions for their effective cooling or elimination. Efforts must be made to ensure that, within the framework of the 2-year program, there are immediate solutions, unique model projects and long-term strategic proposals at the local level as well. The BeReady project consists of 5 phases, of which the III. stage preparation is underway in Hévíz. In Phase I, the research institutes assessed the general characteristics of the heat islands and are working on methods to map them. The II. the partners got to know the methods. The current III. with the involvement of the localities, locally affected partners, professional organizations, experts and the population, they will assess their own heat islands based on the methodology and their risk in order to be able to formulate proposals to prevent the formation of heat islands or eliminate existing ones. This will be followed by IV. phase, in which specific tasks and pilot projects must be implemented to reduce heat islands, the results of which will have to be reported and the results published in phase V. Experts from public institutions, scientific institutions, civil organizations and businesses came together to learn about the risks of urban heat islands and to actively participate in the further activities of the project, the elimination of heat islands on the 6th November 2024 for a local workshop. The crowd of 18 guests got familar with the whole project, and started to learn the about the metodology which will used to measure and collect the local datas to provide the UHI vulnerability of Hévíz.   [galeria]

You don't have to start with the 90°C Finnish sauna, instead start with the aroma or steam cabin and relax with the power of nature! A water experience in a different way! tartalom: + 1 What’s more, cycling is more than a sport! While cycling, you have the possibility to discover the world on two wheels while you are relaxing. Not to mention that cycling is also environmentally friendly and healthy as well! The bicycle road around Lake Balaton has been completed for 15 years. Cyclist have already cycled around the Lake more than once, but they are also ready for new challenges. Cycling became so popular in the past years that the bicycle roads are as crowded as the highways, especially in the summer season. The Hungarian Cyclist Association have been working relentlessly on the BB365 project and its results are already used by every biker. What is BB365 exactly? It is an abbreviation which stands for Balaton Bike 365, meaning that by Lake Balaton it is possible to enjoy bicycle services all year around. Thanks to the project, sign boards were placed out which signal 800 kilometres of bicycle roads in total, four times the length of the complete Lake Balaton bicycle round. 45 different thematic routes were also created, which are also noted by boards. For example, the routes including the Festetics Heritage are red coloured. Circle tours always have letter combinations. The three-digit numbers always mean local routes, while two-digit numbers mean national roads. One-digit roads usually connect to international roads. Be cautious though: the new signs don’t always signal separate bicycle roads since they can also point to appointed car roads or dirt roads too. The BB365 webpage and application are perfect for seeing these roads as well. The BB365 application was awarded ‘The Application of the Year’ award by the Hungarian Marketing Association last year. Cycling fans are able to plan their routes around Lake Balaton in 7 languages. Due to the project, three bicycle centres were also created in Keszthely, in Balatonfüred and in Balatonföldvár. In these centres, bicycles can be rented, or guided tour can be also booked. Fixing services will be also available in the future. For what the BB365 application is good for? Just like in Google, you will be able to make a cycling tour plan, however, in the BB365 app you will only see the routes that you can also cycle on. You will immediately see the quality of the road (bicycle road, car road, dirt road) and the altitudes as well. You are also able to filter your search based on recommended routes if you for example travel with your family or you would like to cycle with a mountain bike. You are also able to rate the routes and recommend it to others. With the pictograms, you can see the sights of the region like castles, viewpoints, museums or churches. Based on the short details given of the sights, you can easily plan where to stop during your trip. You can also search accommodations, restaurants, service points or spots to take free water. So it's time to give you an overview of where and how much you can swim in the Hévíz area this summer after the adventure parks.

There are roughly 7+2 beaches near Hévíz that are very popular among guests. Keszthely City Beach | Keszthely Libás Beach | Alsógyenes Lidó Beach | Gyenesdiás Play Beach | Vonyarcvashegyi Lido Beach | Balatongyörök Beach | Balatonberény Beach + Dog Beach in Keszthely and Naturist Beach in Balatonberény   It is typical of the above beaches that you can go for a walk or even take a bath outside of the high season. You can use the playgrounds and sports fields, but the buffets and restrooms are only open during the beach season. In the late spring period, you should expect that renovations, weeding, flower planting, and toys are being renovated, but by the beginning of June, almost all beaches can be visited. There are entrance tickets, where they start collecting from June 1, and where they start collecting from the beginning of the school holidays. The opening hours - as long as you have to buy a full price ticket - are usually between 8:00 and 18:00, but in many places you can buy an evening swimming ticket before closing, which is cheaper and usually after 6 or 7, entry is free. Most beaches have student and pensioner discounts, family tickets or weekly passes can also be purchased. In terms of accessibility, a common feature of the beaches in the area is that they are easy to find. By bicycle, the cash desks are almost within reach of the Balaton bicycle path, and by car, of course, you can park for free next to every beach. Moreover, with the exception of the dog beach and the Libás beach, all other beaches are close to the local train station, so if you can, you can even go by train.   Lake Hévíz, as a uniqueness, is a spa, lake spa and beach spa all in one Unique in the world, Lake Hévíz combines thermal spas and beach spas in such a way that none of them really exist. Due to its uniqueness, you can bathe in the natural thermal spring all year round, and thanks to the covered parts, you can enjoy the experience of warm water even in pouring rain or snow. Depending on the weather, in the spring, usually in May, the beach area opens even earlier, where you can enjoy the pleasures of water around 30°C or even warmer before the Balaton beach season. The children's pools are only filled in mid-June, as they have heated normal water. From the point of view that you can swim in a real, natural, warm water lake and relax and sunbathe on its shore, it is more like a beach, but based on the services, opening hours and prices based on medicinal water, it can be classified more like a thermal spa. You definitely have to try it once, because it is really unique and special, completely different from all the usual beaches and adventure pools! Adventure baths and slide park Near Hévíz, we have to write about 3 major thermal and adventure baths and a slide park. Closer to Hévíz is the Kehida Thermal Bath in Kehidakustány, many people also visit the Karos Spa complex in Zalakaros, and Zalaszentgrót also has a thermal and adventure bath. Perhaps a little further, in Zalaegerszeg there is an Aquacity and slide park. The common feature of the first three thermal spas is that their indoor pools are open all year round, but in the summer season they also open their outdoor beach with adventure park, slides and a large green surface to the public. These baths, although they cannot be called classic beaches, can be visited regardless of the weather, since even if we cannot use the outdoor experiences, the indoor pools are still open. Another important feature they have in common is that they have pools with medicinal water and heated normal water pools. Aquacity, located next to the last-mentioned Zalaegerszeg, only operates in the summer, during the school holidays. It does not have an indoor bath, only outdoor pools and numerous slides, among which all ages can find their favorite. At the same time, just like the Balaton beaches, this adventure bath is only visited in nice, summer weather. The ticket prices of the spas and beaches do not reflect the quality of the services! On the slightly more expensive beaches, the extra program options and extra experience elements provide the basis for a higher price category, while the slightly cheaper beaches are typically smaller, more family-friendly, and offer fewer but equally high-quality services. In addition, all the classic beaches listed here (except for dogs and naturists) have Blue Wave certification and are multiple category winners (child-friendly beach, sporty beach, green beach). The different types of ticket prices mean that entrance tickets to most beaches in the pre-summer season, in June, are cheaper than in July and August.

What’s more, in Hévíz, you can also drinksulphurous medicinal water, which is recommended for many people. Drinking Hévíz medicinal water in moderation can relieve stomach aches and bile problems. You cantaste it at the public water fountains. Get in the steam! The sauna is good, many people like it. Hot steam and humid air are an important part of the bathing culture of many civilisations, be it a Roman tepidarium, a Turkish bath, a Japanese onsen or a Finnish sauna. The hot, humid air dilates pores, increases cellular metabolism, refreshes the skin, relaxes the mind and clears the respiratory system. Ice-cold delights! Water vapour is also useful and can be used if it is ice cold. The massaging effect of water has been used for a long time, so it's almostubiquitous in spas, wellness and adventure baths. However, water jet massage is not just a simple muscle-relaxing spa experience; it is also a significant treatment. We asked Beáta Süténé Tüttő about this fantastic and unique board game. Basics – what is the game about? What is the name of the game, and what kind of atmosphere does it promise at first glance? The name of the game is Hévíz a GyógyíTó. Even the title suggests relaxation, healing, and a touch of playful humor – exactly the kind of atmosphere that characterizes the town of Hévíz and the unique world of Lake Hévíz. What is the story and theme of the game? The game is based on the healing treatments carried out at Lake Hévíz and at various locations throughout the town, such as therapies for musculoskeletal conditions and rehabilitation after injuries. As players move across the board, they take part in elements of the traditional healing cure: bathing in the lake, mud treatments, weight bath therapy, and other complementary treatments. In this way, the game presents the complex therapeutic packages of Hévíz in a playful format. Who is the game recommended for? It is an excellent choice as a gift, a souvenir, for winter evenings, or for family and friends’ gatherings. Recommended from the age of 16 for anyone who enjoys light, cheerful board games. Where is it available and how much does it cost? The price of the game is 8,000 HUF, and the proceeds are used for charitable purposes.
