cím: Can we share Hungarians desire for thermal baths?

tartalom:+ 1 The IMTM 2023 – International Mediterranean Tourism Market was held two months ago in Expo Tel Aviv for the first time after COVID. The exhibition was a success. Endless booths and representations of both countries and private tourism providers alike. Walking between the cubicles and meeting hundreds of professionals, I suddenly noticed a small modest counter in a remote corner with the Hungarian flag. There I met Petr Ostrovkin, an impressive businessman with his intrepetor. I was curious about the product he was trying to market – a hotel in Hungary he owns on a small lake I never heard of. Petr invited me to visit and within a few weeks I found myself spending an incredible time by Europe’s largest thermal basin – lake Hévíz, chick to chick with Lake Balton. There I investigated, discovered and experienced – why do Hungarians desire top thermal baths so much. Or, is it true that Hungary is indeed a “bathing world-power”. The explanation is rather straightforward – history, tradition and geography are all mixed, like a traditional Jewish Cholent. The Romans that ruled in ancient Hungary left first their famous mark here. They had bathing and cleaning habits. Bathing was an important part of their lifestyle, which meant refreshing the body and soul. They built baths in this region, mainly for their military forces. Several private baths were also framed by wealthy Romans in their mansions. It is believed that the Roman healers built separate bathing complexes for those who were in poor health condition. Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule – an art wall creation in Rudas bath, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) Going back in time – Rudas turkish style sink, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) However it is believed that the Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule. The Ottoman Empire, historically the Turkish Empire, controlled much of southeast Europe, including Hungary. They are the ones that lay down the foundations of thermal baths. The Ottomans also introduced people to the habits of their wellness treatments. Massages, body creams and oils. The Turks valued bathing as both a cleansing ritual and social gathering. The Hungarians were doubtful. Only the Turks were allowed to use the baths during the day. Curious Hungarians only went to the thermal baths at night-time, especially in Budapest that was and still is a city of bathing power. The rest is history. Over the years these baths became part of a balanced life culture in Hungary. Bearing in mind that the country has no access to an ocean or a sea, relying on Lake Balaton for recreational needs, local baths flourished. The neighbors in Austria, once part of the joint dual Monarchy under the name Austro-Hungarian Empire, similarly love thermal baths . Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin (photo by Motti Verses) Endless steam – Lake Hévíz (photo by Motti Verses) A small creek with water coming from the lake- similar as the hotel thermal baths (photo by Motti Verses) No wonder the small Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin is an extremely popular destination – a two hours drive, either from Budapest or Vienna. It is 38.5 meters deep, with 410 liters per second water flow rate and biologically volcanically active – a natural thermal lake with magical health capabilities. Some call it the fountain of life. Since 1795 these healing waters helped people to recover and regain their strength. Most visitors return home refreshed and rejuvenated. Experts indicate that the chemical ingredients of cold and hot water springs, with 40 degrees of sulphuric medicinal water here, are richer than those in thermal baths in Budapest. Hévíz is where Petr Ostrovkin’s hotel is. He hopes Israelis will in time flock to his shimmering estate. His Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa offers 232 rooms and suites and is an ultimate destination for a relaxing and therapeutic vacation. The hotel is located in a gigantic natural park within walking distance to Lake Hévíz. This walk is rather surreal along a small creek with steam water coming from the lake. Our visit was just recently but the temperatures were low and a constant drizzle dominated our stay. Endless steam evaporates as the water temperature is very high. Guests may enjoy Lake Hévíz mineral water reaching the spa via pipes. Definitely the most rewarding experiences one can enjoy here. Lotus Therme is a pampering traditional hotel. A variety of different indoor pools in contrasting water temperatures are offered. The great jacuzzi was the strongest I have ever experienced. The main round pool is heated, but does not contain healing water. Pouring rain while your body is soaked deep in hot water is just paradise. We loved our morning swim in this well maintained pool. A unique experience in any weather conditions. The wellness spa offers a variety of treatments with Lake Hévíz products, however we did not experience them. The pampering pools were just fantastic. The daily scenery from the room balcony – total relaxation (photo by Motti Verses) A great experience while swimming – constant drizzle with steam evaporation, as the water temperature is very high (photo by Motti Verses) The relaxing lobby of Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus is the key element here as this water flower really blossoms on this never surprising natural wonder. Apparently they like the volcanic water and always thrive in warm water with a need room to grow. The lake provides the perfect environment and the hotel wisely promotes this unique phenomenon as a marketing tool in its logo and with endless art creations all over the facilities. Advertisement Hungarians and Austrians might carry a mosaic of a historical ambivalent relationship, but both people surly adore Lake Hévíz. The majority of guests in the hotel originate from those countries that share love for thermal baths. Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa is offering both food and entertainment with this fact in mind. Pleasant veteran General Manager Attila Fulop is heading skilled team members that work here for many years. Dressed with formal clothes they all recognize the guests who keep returning here. Loyal customers are the best proof for success. The menu at dinner is different each evening and the variety is one of the most generous I have seen. The bar is crowded each night and live dancing with different musicians each day are offered here. Guests of all ages are actually dancing. General Manager Fulop knows his work. A dream of a good hotelier is to keep his guests in its premises and not looking for alternatives elsewhere. Will Israelis flock to Hévíz? Hamat Gader hot springs site in the Yarmouk River valley, used since the classical antiquity, is one of the most popular attractions for Israelis. With that in mind and the endless daily flights from Ben Gurion airport to Budapest, the potential is certainly there. Especially in winter when the flight costs are rock bottom. Hévíz here we come.

cím: MI6 Energy-conscious Hospital Certificate for Hévízfürdő
lead: For the 13th time this year, on May 4, MI6 awarded certificates to the service providers and institutions that achieved the best results in terms of energy savings in the past year.
tartalom:+ 1 Hungarian Innovation and Efficiency (MI6) Nonprofit Kft was established in 2011. The goal of the organization, which is also supported by the UN, is to promote all the energy efficiency processes through which Hungarian service providers can save energy and thereby save additional resources. The essence of the Virtual Power Plant Program (VEP) they operate is that: Unused energy is the greenest energy! The less energy we use, the more we can reduce CO2 emissions, thereby making the operation of our facilities more sustainable, energetically efficient and cheaper. The economic value of unused energy is the same as that of produced energy. With unused energy, we not only manage resources more efficiently, but also save money. The aim of the organization is to have service providers connected to the program either from the entrepreneurial, residential, civil or public sector; over time, do NOT use as much energy on an annual basis, so save as much as PAKS can produce. All of these results can be achieved with investments aimed at energy efficiency, technical developments, conscious decisions, the use of smart systems, lifestyle changes, recycling... For the 13th time this year, on May 4, MI6 awarded certificates to the service providers and institutions that achieved the best results in terms of energy savings in the past year. How did the Hévízgyógyfürdő Szent András Rheumatic Hospital earn the certificate? The certificate is awarded for 1 year, and environmental engineer György Németh, the technical manager of the Szent András Rheumatic Hospital, told us about how to earn it. MI6 announced the program for the 13th year, but the Hévíz hospital applied for certification for the first time this year. Service providers can apply in different institutional categories, we have measured ourselves among hospitals. In order to be certified as an energy-conscious hospital, it was necessary to present the already implemented and planned measures aimed at energy efficiency, as well as to show how much we were able to reduce the institution's CO2 emissions in 2022 as a result of the technical changes, investments, and developments that have already been implemented, as well as how much we could count on financial savings. We can be proud that we met expectations in every respect. In recent years, several technical solutions have been completed in the hospital, with which we can achieve more energy-efficient operation of the facility. These include, for example, heat pump development, the solar park, rethinking the operation of facilities with building energy control smart systems. Of course, further developments are also planned. These will allow us to manage energy in different ways in different parts of the institution. It is also important for us to strive for a change of attitude among hospital workers, to make them interested in sustainable energy management in the long term. How new is energy-conscious thinking in Hévíz? In Hévíz, the issue of sustainability and environmental awareness has long been an important and prominent aspect. Of course, this is also due to the fact that Lake Hévíz and its surroundings are a nature conservation area, so many regulations must be complied with. From the point of view of tourism, protecting this natural treasure is of particular importance in the settlement. Among the institutions in Hévíz, at the Szent András Rheumatic Hospital in Hévíz, we have been dealing with sustainability issues, energy efficiency, and cost-effective facility operation for a long time. This is also proven by the fact that this is not the first recognition of our work in the last 10 years. The institution has previously received the Greenovation award and the Ozone Green award. Of course, processes and developments in this direction have intensified since the first Covid year in 2019. The economic and social changes of recent years have initiated several processes in more and more institutions and state support systems, all of which favor decisions aimed at more cost-effective operation. Why is this award important? The Certificate of the MI6 Energy-conscious Hospital confirms that we are on the right track, that what we do is important. These recognitions are also very important to us because we consider this work to be a form of social responsibility. It is important that others know about it, the people who live here, our colleagues, the guests who come here. Let them see that sustainability is a priority in Hévíz and in our hospital, Tófürdő too! It must be seen that even a small intervention, operational decision or investment can achieve huge results in such a large institution. In fact! I'm going further! In an institution of this size, it is possible to save at least as much energy as with a new technical solution in the form of an investment, just by conscious employee behavior and conscious energy use. I believe that small steps can go a long way. Personally, my task is to operate a long-term sustainable Hévízfürdő together with my colleagues and everyone who works here. On May 4, the Energy-Aware Hospital Certification was presented to the hospitals by Katalin Szili, the hereditary patron of the VEP, and Zoltán Jenei (OKFŐ).

tartalom:+ 1 Let's see the offer, fairly, in ABC order: Bobo Fun Park - Adrenaline Arena The Bobo Fun Park opened in Alsópáhok in 2021, but we think the name Adrenalin Arena is more descriptive. How to describe it simply: a huge, really huge, two-level hall, which is very demanding and spectacular inside and out, full of crawling-climbing-jumping experiences. The arena has a morning and an afternoon game time, and you can choose from two types of tickets, depending on how committed you are. There are also separate coin-operated, paid VR experiences, but the main attractions are rather the moving tracks. Climbing walls, trampolines, ninja track, indoor rope course, etc. It's a great experience for adults, even without children. Who do we recommend? For anyone who likes to move, crawl and climb, whether as a family, with small children or with friends. This place can be perfect for teenagers and even adults, if they want a little (big) exercise and a challenge. Bobo Fun Park - Adrenalin Arena's own website Advantages very demanding location, with demanding games provides recreation for several age groups it moves mom and dad too the VR room is a real treat for those who like futuristic experiences cleanliness, order regardless of the weather, it is always open You can easily get here from Hévíz on foot, by bicycle or by bus Consider this! you have to pay attention to the playing time, as the day is divided into two periods it is forbidden to bring in food and drink, in exchange there is of course a high-quality buffet with hot and cold food and drinks it's a shame that you have to pay extra for VR experiences Our tip: For future guests: rules apply to wearing shoes and socks indoors! Therefore, make sure to find out before we go! For the operators: Some outdoor games would also be great, maybe a laser fighting track or a mini go-kart. DinoparkRezi The pairing may seem strange at first, but the park located on the border of Rezi has both life-sized moving dinos and adventure games. With the daily ticket, you can use many experience elements, such as rope courses, pool football, children's climbing wall, mini golf courses, bocce and bull rodeo, walking dino, treasure hunt, boating, trampolines, playgrounds, light railway, while some games can be used with tokens (token price: HUF 250): grip machines, air hockey, foosball table, simulators, basketball machine. Who do we recommend? Where at least one child is a dino fanatic. The park is a great experience with smaller children. DinoparkRezi's own website Advantages: the rope courses are good for several age groups, there is a section that even preschoolers can use It is even within reach by bicycle from Hévíz during the summer season there are quite a few different game options to choose from there is also a restaurant/buffet, but you can also bring your own food it is in an open space, in a large area, so there is no crowding it is open every day Consider this! outdoor, therefore only recommended in good weather some of the games are age-restricted Our tip: There may not be enough trees, so in the hot sun, be prepared with sunscreen, water, a cap, and a hat to prevent sunburn. Some of the toys may be a little old, and it shows here and there, but dinos don't age. Water Lily Adventure Park The Tavirózsa Gardening Center is located between Hévíz and Keszthely. Don't let the name mislead anyone, the Tavirózsa Adventure Park is actually located in a garden, and it should be added here that it is in a correspondingly wonderful environment. While mother/father/grandmother is enjoying the plants, perhaps selecting or shopping, the children can test their courage on the rope course. There is also minigolf, archery, foot billiards, pedal go-karts, and treasure hunting. The main thing is a safe environment and a safe gaming experience! Of course, there is also a buffet, where you can enjoy refreshing drinks or freshly baked filled pies under a pleasant gazebo. Who do we recommend? For grandmothers who would like to bring their grandchildren to a place for a few hours where they will be safe, and if they are not participating in archery together, they can relax in an arbor and enjoy the flowers. Tavirózsa Adventure Park's own website Advantages: the environment is wonderful and the operating couple is very nice the games are recommended for children under the age of 16 easily accessible by car or bicycle, but there is also a bus stop a few meters away for the more adventurous, there is also a go-kart track in the immediate vicinity it is open from Monday to Saturday Consider this! outdoor, so only recommended in good weather the ropeway is not very high, so it is not great for adrenaline junkies it's not a very big park, so it's not a full-day program, but that can even be an advantage Our tip: Go with your eyes open, because it is difficult to find the park at first, but not because it is not easily accessible, but because we only notice the horticulture. ZOBORI EXPERIENCE PARK The largest adventure park in the region, on a huge area, with a wonderful panorama of Little Balaton. In Zobor, there are both outdoor and indoor games, 4XD Cinema, escape room, adventure castle, giant trampoline, rope course, slide, free fall tower, laser combat, airsoft, water dodgem, VR experiences, water playground and the biggest attraction is the roller coaster. But there are even live animals, and even if you're in the area, you shouldn't miss the wine estate. The park is a real treat, with many attractions, which are best viewed as a full-day program. Who is it recommended for? Especially for families with children, if the goal is to find a full-day program with lots of comings and goings and adventures, which can be an option even in bad weather. Zobori Amusement Park's own website Advantages in a very large area many different attractions demanding design, buildings, walkways, rest areas there are also outdoor and indoor programs a good experience for many age groups Companions over the age of 65 have a walking ticket there are also several buffets and self-service restaurants Consider this! outside of the summer season, it is only open on weekends unless you are staying here in the village, it is only accessible by car here, too, there are token experiences that are not included in the ticket price Our tip: It's a good idea to set a budget in advance as to how much you want to spend on the program, because the horse can run away with us when it comes to chip games. Are you interested in more experiences and attractions in the same area? We have more tips, you can find more ideas here! >>> Opening image: Zobori Adventure Park

tartalom:+ 1 Hévíz Turisztikai Np. Kft. participates in this year's Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture events with its program series Forest Mystery. The Forest Mystery, or Game in Green! the main concept of events in Hévíz is to use natural spaces for cultural events where people, nature and art can connect! It was obvious that the main location of the programs to be realized is the Northern Nature Reserve next to Lake Hévíz, where micro-concerts, children's performances and geobotanical walks are organized several times between April and October. One of the special elements of this series of events the pART forest exhibition opened on August 4, 2023 at 16:00. Anyone who knows the area and has seen the exhibition - which is not only the location but also the theme of the forest itself - can easily understand the choice of title. The pART forest exhibition is located on a forest path next to the northern stream of Lake Hévíz. By walking in the forest, we can get to know the hidden beauties that are usually difficult to see with the naked eye, or remain hidden during an average walk, through an exhibition showing the wildlife of the nature reserve, selected from more than 60 pictures. Pictures of wonderful birds, special plants, small animals and bugs can be seen on the pictures stretched on and between trees. A significant part of the works are paintings, the work of nature illustrator Márton Zsoldos. The exhibition also includes some photos taken by nature conservationists Előd Búzás and Gábor Sinka, here, in the immediate vicinity of Lake Hévíz. The opening of the forest exhibition is a wooden gate with the motto of the exhibition: "Open to nature!" On behalf of the organizer Hévíz Turisztikai Np Kft., Tamás Pálffy emphasized that the aspects of nature conservation, sustainability and green events were taken into account when organizing the entire Forest Mystery program series. Every event tries to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint, and in all its elements it strives to bring people, nature and the cultural experiences that can be experienced in nature closer to each other in such a way that they interfere with nature only to a small extent, but in no case in a harmful way. Recycled wooden picture frames donated by local residents were also used for this exhibition, and sugar asparagus was used for mounting. The forest exhibition is expected to be on display until September 30, but this may even change due to the use of natural materials and the development of weather conditions. In this case, durability was not even a goal. However, the gate remains! Because whether there is a pART Forest Exhibition in the Hévíz Véderdø or not, the message is always valid: Open to nature! A small taste of the exhibition can be viewed in this photo gallery!

cím: HOW, WHERE, WHY DO YOU FLY IN A HOT AIR BALLOON?
lead: A little historical perspective!
tartalom:+ 1 The first test flight of a hot air balloon carrying people was carried out on October 19, 1783 near Paris. And on November 21, the first public flight took place, which then lasted 25 minutes and approx. We managed to cover 7.5 km. The balloon rose with the help of heated air, which was produced by burning straw and dry wood on a grate under the balloon dome. It only took a few days, however, and on December 1 of the same year, the first hot-air balloon filled with hydrogen took off in the vicinity of Paris, rising to a height of 550 meters. Unfortunately for them, upon landing, the local residents were so horrified that they immediately destroyed the "evil structure". The practical spread of balloons was given a big boost by the American Civil War of 1861-63, when the first balloon air force was created. Hot air balloon flights were also of great importance in terms of scientific experimentation. As early as 1784, scientific tests and experiments were carried out in flight. What was investigated: changes in temperature and air pressure, air composition, gravity, examination of living beings, meteorological processes. In July 1803, the first strictly scientific flight took place in Hamburg. Physicists flew for 5 and a half hours, up to an altitude of 7,000 meters, without oxygen bottles, in excruciating pain. Studies are carried out regarding cloud and air electricity, sound propagation, the boiling point of water and the evaporation process. The hobby and sports balloons used today, as well as the hot air balloons operated for tourist purposes, rise or fall according to the long-proven hot air principle, with the big difference that the hot air is now not achieved by burning dry branches, but by propane bottles. The Balaton Ballooning team told us interesting facts about ballooning We asked the pilots of Hungary's largest hot air balloon what they know about the huge balloon they fly around Hévíz and Kis-Balaton. Pilots Péter Kollár and Attila Aklan control Balaton Ballooning's hot air balloon from spring to the end of October, almost every day when the weather permits. We received answers to a number of questions, and here are the following, briefly and succinctly:TECHNICAL DATA What parts does a hot air balloon usually have? The main parts of hot air balloons are: basket, burner, dome, tension ropes, fuel (gas) tanks. In addition, the following are required for operation: fans for inflation, trailer for ground transport. Are there types of hot air balloons? If so, what are yours like? There are several types of balloons, Balaton Ballooning's Cameron A-375. The type is composed as follows: Cameron Ltd. is the manufacturer, A-type indicates the cut shape, the volume of the dome is 375,000 cubic feet (10,620 m3). The basket What is the size and weight of the basket and how many people can it fit?350x170 cm, 356 kg, 18 passengers + 1 pilot can travel in it. This is the largest used basket size at home. There are only 2 larger basket sizes, the largest can carry 27 people. The smallest is only 80x70 cm, weighs 55 kg and can accommodate only 1 person. What material is the basket made of?Sea reed woven on a metal and plastic frame. Can a basket have characteristics? Our basket is also unique, based on the plans of the chief pilot and the executive, it was made in the Ultramagic factory in Catalonia. It was developed for passenger flights, 5 and 4 people can travel in the right and left asymmetric passenger compartments. Each passenger has a space of 0.25 square meters as required by the EU. At the same time, it is unique in that it is also equipped with seat belts, which is rare because it is not mandatory. That's why only our basket is like this at home, but this is not typical in the world either. The dome How big is the dome?It has a volume of 10,620 m3 and a maximum load capacity of 3,401 kg - it can lift this much weight. When tensioned, it is as tall as a 10-story prefab house. It is 35 meters high, and its diameter at its widest point is 15 meters. This is the biggest balloon in Hungary. What material is the dome made of? Is it similar to what a spinnaker is for sailing ships, or a parachute for skydivers?Yes, it is a Hyperlast material. It has high tensile strength and can withstand 125 degrees Celsius without heat damage. Furthermore, the lower part at the burner head is made of Nomex flame retardant material. Why are there gaps in the dome circle? These are turning wheels, with the help of which the balloon can be turned 360 degrees along its longitudinal axis. Before landing, the pilot rotates the balloon to the landing side, and the balloon can also be rotated during flight, so that all passengers can see everything in a 360-degree panoramic view. How damage resistant is the dome? The Hyperlast material is a densely woven material with high tensile strength, so it is not fragile. What is the air temperature in the dome?Between 80 and 120 degrees, depending on whether we fly in cold (spring-autumn) or hot (summer) weather. What will happen to the dome when it is no longer in use? - Can this be used for something else?It will be scrapped. We can't use it for anything else. Fuel What kind of fuel does the balloon need?Propane gas, which is filled in special bottles for balloon flights. How much fuel do you need to fly?On average, 110-150 kg of propane gas is burned during a 1-hour flight. How heavy is the fuel at the beginning of the flight? The starting weight is 300 kg. How long is the fuel taken for?Sufficient for roughly 2.5 hours of flight time How much fuel is consumed depends on what? From the total weight of the passengers and how many degrees the outside air temperature is. Heavy passengers and 35 degree heat consumes a lot of gas. THE PILOTS AND THE STAFF How many people do your balloons have?In a hot air balloon, we distinguish between the air crew, who are the pilots, and the ground service crew. There is room for 1 pilot in the basket, take-off, landing, unpacking and transport are carried out by 4 people. What does a pilot need to know?European and Hungarian aviation laws, regulations and regulations. Historical knowledge (balloon flight). Theoretical foundations of balloon flight. Flight execution methodology. Meteorology, navigation, first aid, fire protection. Radio management and distribution rules. Knowledge of aircraft, instrumentation, use of other tools. Inspection, repair. Knowledge of regulations. Emergencies and what to do in case of an emergency. Ground preparation. Aviation knowledge. I have an instructor's and A, B, C, D professional service license. Which means I can drive all categories of balloons. I have flown 3,606 hours, 3,492 flights, I have been flying only with balloons for 38 years. Do the ground staff also need training?Appropriate driving license for the vehicles used to transport the balloon and passengers. Knowledge related to balloon flight: Ground preparation. Aviation knowledge. Radio management and distribution rules. Flight execution methodology. First aid, fire protection. OSH education. RISING, DESCENT, CHANGE OF DIRECTION How do you control a hot air balloon to how high it goes? which direction to fly?It all depends on the direction and speed of the wind. Wind blows in different directions and speeds at different heights. The direction and distance of flight depends on these stratospheric winds. By increasing or decreasing the temperature of the air in the balloon, the balloon can be raised to different heights in order to obtain a favorable wind. What makes take-off or landing difficult or complicated?Due to the strength of the wind, e.g. We cannot take off in case of a ground wind speed of 15 km/h. When landing, if the wind increases or changes. Is there a hot air balloon where you can control it better and fly on a fixed route? No, that's not really possible. There are characteristic wind directions resulting from geographical features that can be counted on, based on meteorological forecasts, but this cannot be called a planned, fixed route. In the past, there were bags filled with sand on the sides of the balloons, which were used to control the height. Is there still such a ballast in the hot air balloon?Only gas balloons fly with ballast. Gas balloons are filled with a gas that is lighter than air (e.g. hydrogen, helium or ammonia), the buoyancy of which lifts them up. The gas providing passive lift heats up in the sun and starts to rise uncontrollably, it cools down at night, its buoyancy decreases and the balloon will sink. There is no possibility of refilling in the air, so they carry sandbags as ballast. They can rise by scattering themselves from the sand, and sink by releasing gas. What is the highest altitude and the longest distance you have flown up and down?We were already flying at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Our furthest flight was from Hévíz to Noszlop. This is roughly a distance of 55 km as the crow flies. This distance with such a balloon is actually the unofficial Hungarian record. REGULATION Is there a law that regulates hot air ballooning? Who and how supervises who can fly, where and with what? The rules are laid down in the XCVII of 1995. Act on Aviation, is determined by the Department of Aviation Inspection Authority of the Ministry of Construction and Transport and the European Aviation Safety Agency. The pilot must have a valid professional service license and flight medical certificate for the given aircraft, and the balloon must have a valid airworthiness and registration certificate and insurance. Are there traffic rules that apply to hot air balloons?Yes. During daily flights, you can fly according to the airspace utilization plan issued by HungaroControl Magyar Légiforgalgi Szolgálat, taking into account prohibited and restricted airspaces. What determines how far a hot air balloon can fly safely? - are there statistics on how many times you have flown with this balloon? There is a technical exam after every 100 hours flown. During this, the tensile strength of the dome material is also reviewed. If it can withstand a breaking load of 14 kg, it can be flown. We are currently on flight 841. (September 18, 2023) OTHER INTERESTS How often do hot air balloon accidents happen?Since the balloon is a simple structure that works on a simple principle, accidents are not common. What happens if someone gets altitude sickness? How fast can you land?Passengers don't usually get sick. If so, I have cold mineral water, aspirin, and candy. Quick landing is not possible. Therefore, we do not carry passengers with circulatory, locomotor, or psychiatric problems, or those who are under the influence of alcohol or any other mind-altering substance. Is there competition for hot air balloons?Yes, but only for smaller balloons. Ours is not a competition balloon. What clothes should passengers fly in?When getting in and out of the balloon basket, it is more practical to use closed sports shoes and long pants, they can also be useful due to the uncertain landing site. Due to the possible wind, it is not recommended to wear hats that are easily blown away by the wind, and since we usually fly in the evening, at sunset, it is worth bringing a jacket or sweater with you even in the summer. As you go up, how does the temperature change?Moving away from the surface, the average temperature decreases. The decrease is 1 °C per 100 meters in dry air and 0.65 °C in moist air. You can sometimes hear that there are hot air balloon expeditions on extreme routes - what are the main differences compared to hot air ballooning?Hot air balloon expeditions (crossing the ocean, circumnavigation, arctic) use special balloons, and there are also mixed-use ones (helium and hot air balloons at the same time). Balloons flying this high raise closed, pressurized cabins. It's just a vehicle, and with vehicles there's always an interesting question: how much does it cost?In the case of this type, the basket is approx. HUF 12 million, dome approx. 25 million, burner approx. 5 million, gas tanks HUF 800,000. It's not something you just take home for fun. You can fly with Balaton Ballooning until the end of October, and the next time it will take off is in the spring of 2024. If you miss out this year, you can buy a gift certificate for the next season, even for a birthday, anniversary, or Christmas! tartalom:+ 1 Kányavári Island The arched wooden bridge built from wooden beams in the 1980s has now become a symbol of Kis-Balaton. We can enjoy a wonderful view from the bridge. We can admire such special waterfowl as the great egret, gray heron, or the cormorant, which is less popular with fishermen. On the one-and-a-half kilometer long Búbosvöcsök nature trail, 15 signs present the fish, birds, and mammals of the Little Balaton. You can also fish on the island and you can spy the water and the Zalai hills from two lookouts. In cooler weather, a little indoor attraction is good The Kis-Balaton Visitor Center is an exhibition of the Balaton Upland National Park that has only been open for 2 years. It is an excellent choice for the whole family all year round. You can walk along an interactive nature trail on the building's green-roofed structure, which looks like wildlife crossings. From here you can clearly see the winter bird feeders and you can hear the "opening song" of the ever more active black tit. The building houses a gift shop and a restaurant, and children can enjoy fresh air on the playground in the courtyard, while parents refresh themselves with coffee. Part of the exhibition is the cinema, where during a half-hour film we can get to know the winter-summer, autumn-spring life of Kis-Balaton through soul-touching quotes selected from the novels of István Fekete Tüskevár and Téli berek, all in the understanding interpretation of Gábor Reviczky. In the interactive part of the exhibition, we can find out what invasive species are and why we don't like them. We will find out what the role of Little Balaton is in protecting the water quality of Lake Balaton, and we can even examine water samples ourselves. Those who want to see even more of this magical wildlife can take part in a guided canoe tour organized by the Balaton Upland National Park from early spring to late autumn. The winter canoeing season has also started on the Hévíz stream. Those who take part in this can row along the Hévíz stream and then the Gyöngyös stream, and get to know this unique wetland. The end point of the rowing tour is Diás Island, where the Matula hut, evoking the atmosphere of Tüskevár, stands. At the István Fekete Memorial next to the small wooden hut, you can also delve into the hidden wonders of Kis-Balaton during a very interesting exhibition. Our secret tip is the bird watch and fish ladder Several locations in Kis-Balaton, such as the aforementioned Diás island, can only be visited with a guide, but there are still quite a few romantic and protected areas that can be visited freely without a guide. Next to the Zala river, at the dam of Lake Hídvégi, you can find the Madárvártara, which was built by Zurich students from thousands of acacia logs without any nails or screws. Next to the parking lot, 100 meters away on the fish ladder, depending on the season, you can marvel at the cavalcade of fish. The fish ladder between the Zala River and Lake Hidvégi slows down the flow of water, so that fish can easily swim upstream. Buffaloes and other types of animals In the Kápolnapuszta buffalo reserve, in addition to the black giants, the ground squirrels are the favorites of children and adults, who cutely graze on the grass grazed by the buffaloes. Anyone who did not know János Arany's poem Arany Lacinak would not even think that the poor groundhog was "cast". Even at the beginning of the 20th century, groundhogs were considered harmful and therefore water was poured into their passages. Other spectacular animals are the jumping goats and donkeys in the petting zoo. In the colonies dug into the loess wall, the gophers attract attention with their brightly colored feathers. But what about buffaloes? The Balaton Upland National Park started breeding water buffalo in the area purchased in 1992 for the purpose of gene conservation. The largest herd of buffaloes in the country can be found in the territory of the reserve, which lives in great peace with the gray cattle. During the winter, the animals spend most of their time in the barn near the entrance, where you can see the traditional animal husbandry in a cozy old photo next to the buffaloes. In case of good weather, the animals are in the pastures, which can be reached in the easiest way by a horse-drawn carriage ordered from the reception building. The giants are "buffalo-strong" and do not necessarily always approach people with friendly intentions, and driving through them in a horse-drawn carriage is a real "safari" feeling. A new feature of the reserve is the viewing platform, which was handed over on January 28, from which we can now also observe the animals from above. (GPS: 46.581816, 17.20314) Kis-Balaton House, cultural trip Next to Zalavár, next to the foundation walls of the former St. Adorján church and the Cyril and Methodius memorial column, you can enjoy photos of the wonders of Zala county in a very cool Millennium Memorial designed by Imre Makovecz. You can read the names of the county's settlements in the letters hanging from the top of the specially shaped dome. At the Kis-Balatonház exhibition, you can learn about the living world, and children can have fun on the playground. Next to the Kis-Balaton Ház, you can reach the Kányavári island on the asphalted bicycle path on the banks of the Zala river. At the Kis-Balaton Ház you can also rent a bicycle, if you don't start on the asphalted Zala coast, but in the other direction, you can even go as far as Zalaapáti on the embankment. tartalom:+ 1 The scenic beauty of Lake Hévíz and the western corner of Lake Balaton are inviting nature lovers to explore their own freedom: the six-kilometre-long Hévíz-Keszthely cycle path starts in the forest next to the thermal lake and leads directly to the 204-kilometer Balaton cycle route . Those who cycle along the northern shore of Lake Balaton must discover the medieval castle ruins and the many volcanic hills all around the Szigliget peninsula (approx. 30 km). From Balatongyörök (15 kms from Hévíz) you can also travel by ship with your bike and cross the Lake over to Balatonmáriafürdő which is located on the southern shores of Lake Balaton. From there it is another 30 kilometers back to Hévíz. Fenékpuszta with its Roman ruins or the Kis-Balaton National Park with the visitor centers, the internationally known bird reserve and the buffalo reserve are also ideal stops along the long ride. If you take the southern route on the Balaton cycle route from Keszthely, you can also head directly to the Kis-Balaton (approx. 15 km). We would also like to reccomend another cycle tour which is about 30 kilometers long and leads northwest of Hévíz through the Zala Valley. Along the way, beautiful viewpoints, sights, small wine cellars and the so called csárdas invite you to stop and admire the hidden beauties of the region. The breathtaking beauty of Transdanubia with its gentle curves between the Bakony forest and the Keszthely Mountains, the hills of Somogy and Zala are also known for the many hiking routes and natural attractions. 20 kms west of Hévíz, as part of the Balaton Uplands National Park can be found the five-kilometer-long stalactite cave, called Csodabogyós. About 30 kilometers northeast of Hévíz, a the small town can be found, called Tapolca which has one of the most breathtaking attractions of the region. In the Cave Lake of Tapolca you can take rowing boat trips under the city. Wine hikers must travel to Szigliget which is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Next to Szigliget, Badacsony is also a great place for wine lovers. The Badacsony witness mountain has a volcanic origin which gives an extravagant taste to the wines served there. Welschriesling and Pinot Gris vines are the most notable wines of the region, which you should definitely try while stopping there. The wonderful panorama and the cozy wine cellars will make a long lasting impression in the traveller. Book your accommodation nowon our website where you can choose from several hundred options! tartalom:+ 1 Where history comes alive Sümeg, Szigliget, Tátika, Rezi, Csobánc. These are some of the volcanic peaks of the Keszthely Hills, but there are also other things that make them special. Today, each of them has a medieval castle ruin on the top. Sümeg and Szigliget stand out among the others as history comes alive almost every day there with knights tournaments, people dressed in period costumes, falcon and hawk shows and medieval dinners. The tourist attractions of the national park encompass an area full of unique natural wonders. Whether it be the lakes, hills, caves or visitor centres, there is something to discover every day. Keszthely, the town of the Festetics Family Keszthely is located only 8km away from Hévíz which visitors can either walk or ride to along to purpose built bike path most of which is through shaded forests. The town, which is more than 750 years old, has many places to discover including the Festetics Palace. It is one of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in Hungary, furnished with period furniture. The park surrounding the Festetics Palace features numerous exhibitions including a Carriage Museum, Hunters’ Museum, and located in the same building, a model railway exhibition. It is also worth visiting the Amazon House and the Balaton Museum showing the history of Lake Balaton. Whilst walking on the promenade by the lake, enjoy the wonderful sight of Lake Balaton, which becomes a paradise for families with children and yachtsmen during the summer. The recent unprecedented heat waves demonstrate the acute need to strengthen the preparedness and adaptive capacity of the society to cope with impacts of climate change and foster resilience at city level.
tartalom:+ 1 Be Ready aims to: - provide local and regional authorities with research, assessment and operational instruments to better understand UHI, its drivers, and effects; - co-create, test and validate jointly developed solutions to mitigate the UHI effects in cities; - support partner cities to develop and adopt action plans for increased resilience to UHI effects with specific actions to promote green, blue, or white measures. The novel approach to be taken by the project – “green acupuncture” - will allow the partners, both cities and knowledge partners, to take targeted, small but powerful, context-based measures to deal with UHI in critical urban areas. City pilots will test solutions in three areas: “green acupuncture” (vegetation-based interventions); “white acupuncture” (based on innovative surfaces and materials); and “blue acupuncture” (novel uses of water resources). The project main outputs include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for UHI risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at city level; co-designed solutions for tackling UHI, tested and peer reviewed in urban environment by 12 pilot cities; a common strategy for improving the climate change preparedness and resilience aimed at local and regional authorities in the Danube region; action plans and transformative strategic outlooks for the participating partners; policy recommendations; a virtual training program with SPOCs; awareness campaigns in 12 countries over the 30-month period. Key for Be Ready is the ClimateSandbox approach that will support participating cities to define and deploy climate-oriented innovations – both on the technological and service side (i.e. content) and on the policy, administrative and spatial planning side (i.e. enabling conditions), through the innovative digital Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool. The project's ambition is to showcase to decision-makers and other stakeholders across Europe the benefits of adopting solutions in which the environment, simplicity, and aesthetics play a key role as value-generating agents as well as community engagement drivers, throughout the co-design process, acting both at levels of solution definition, development, and deployment. Implementation period: January 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026 Partners: • Sofia Development Association, Bulgaria – Lead Partner • DEX Innovation center, Czech Republic • Association Tehnopol of Galati, Romania • Chișinău Town Hall, Moldova • Municipality of Galați, Romania • Science and Technology Park Nis, Serbia • City of Nis, Serbia • City of Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina • Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of Slovenia, Slovenia • Capital City Podgorica, Montenegro • University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria • Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia • Municipality of Ratiboř, Czech Republic • South Moravian agency for public innovation JINAG, Czech Republic • City of Kranj, Slovenia • Association Bureau for Integration and Social Innovations, Bulgaria • Development agency North Ltd., Croatia • Municipality of Hévíz, Hungary • Small Business Development Foundation of Kisalföld, Hungary Be Ready is an Interreg Danube Region Programme project co-funded by the European Union.

tartalom:+ 1 In the face of growing global climate change, the need to respond to its impacts has never been more urgent. The Danube Transnational Programme (DTP) promotes economic, social, and territorial cohesion in the Danube River region, enabling partners from 14 countries to test innovative solutions for climate resilience. The first call of the Interreg Danube Region Programme attracted 290 concepts, of which 89 passed to the second stage, and 60 reached the stage of financing agreements. Twenty of these projects fall under the priority "A greener, low-carbon Danube Region." One innovative project from this selection is Be Ready (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy). The project aims to provide local and regional authorities with tools to identify urban heat islands and understand their causes and consequences on human health, productivity, energy consumption, and biodiversity. The project brings together 19 partners from 12 countries jointly developing solutions to mitigate the effects of heat islands in urban environments. Partner cities, including Hévíz will develop action plans to overcome urban heat islands through data analysis, urban planning solutions, regulations, increased awareness, and infrastructure measures. A key aspect of the project's approach is the concept of "urban acupuncture" - specific small interventions with a large effect. Urban pilot activities will explore solutions in three areas: "green acupuncture," using vegetation; "white acupuncture," using innovative surfaces and materials; and "blue acupuncture," related to new ways of using water resources. You can get involved and support actions fighting climate change Hévíz and make the world more sustainable for everyone. Find more information about the project on our social media pages on Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as on the project website: https://www.interreg-danube.eu/projects/beready. This project is supported by the Interreg Danube Region Programme co-funded by the European Union.

cím: A New Calvary Has Been Opened in Egregy
lead: The new calvary has been consecrated on 8 July 2022.
tartalom:+ 1 The Calvary was blessed and consecrated by Reverend Dr. György Udvardy, Archbishop of Veszprém, with the help of László Kiss, Bishop of Hévíz, who asked God's blessing on the built Calvary. They also asked blessings for the creators of the Calvary and for everyone who visits it to walk Christ's Way of the Cross. János József Kepli, Deputy Mayor of Hévíz and Secretary of State Bálint Nagy gave a festive speech to the large crowd gathered at the foot of the Árpád-era church. In his speech, József Kepli called the construction of the Calvary an important milestone in the life of Hévíz and Egregy, as it enabled one of the most important elements of Egregy's urban rehabilitation efforts to be realized. After the excavation and presentation of the ruins of the Villa Rustica, the preservation of the grave of the Roman soldier, the construction of the Egregyi Museum, the renovation of the Romanesque-style cemetery chapel and the renovation of the wine cellar, it is a great pleasure that such a beautiful, new, natural place that provides an opportunity for reflection was created. The calvary is not only a confession of our faith for Hévíz and the region, but also a significant step forward from the point of view of religious tourism, emphasized State Secretary Bálint Nagy in his speech. The length of the promenade consisting of 14 stations is about 300 meters, and the difference in level from the starting point to the cross is 23.5 meters. The calvary ascends in the direction of the Árpád-era church. Its design is characterized by simplicity and moderation. Trees offer shade in the surroundings of the walkway made of natural materials, and in some sections it is possible to rest and meditate. The materials used fits well into the landscape. The artistic works of his stations were created by Tibor Túri Török. At the end of the Calvary, a wooden cross was added. Next to the cross there is also a stone sculpture representing an empty tomb, which symbolizes the resurrection of Christ. At the end of our walk, we come to the north side of the monument cemetery chapel, so we can also admire the small Romanesque church built in the first half of the 13th century. The calvary can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car, and can also be visited as part of a guided walk. lead: Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton are quite popular destinations in Hungary. Daily, more than ten thousand people spend their holidays in this beautiful region. However, we might raise the question: what do we know and what should we know about the two most iconic lakes of Hungary?
tartalom:+ 1 While Lake Balaton is the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe, Lake Hévíz is the world’s biggest thermal lake that is also suitable for bathing. The source of Lake Balaton is a river called Zala, while Lake Hévíz has its source from a cave underneath the lake. The water of Lake Balaton flows through the Sió channel into the river Danube, however, the water of Lake Hévíz flows into the Gyöngyös stream, then to Small Balaton and ends up in Lake Balaton. The deepest point of Lake Balaton is about 11 metres in contrast to Lake Hévíz, where the source point is 38.5 metres deep. The surface of the water of Lake Balaton is 600 km2 whereas Lake Hévíz has only a 0.0475 km2 water surface. Due to the great water output of Lake Hévíz, the complete water of the lake is replaced in every 72 hours. Regarding Lake Balaton, this phenomenon takes almost two years. The temperature of Lake Balaton can be as high as 28°C on hot summer days; however, during cold winters the upper layers of the water can freeze. The ice can even grow 25 cm thick. On the other hand, the temperature of Lake Hévíz never goes below 23°C, not even in the winter. In the summer, the water of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36°C hot. We would be able to swim around Lake Hévíz in about half an hour if the buildings did not prevent us from doing so. Nonetheless, a week wouldn’t be enough to swim around Lake Balaton. Lake Balaton is full of both summertime and wintertime activities: you can rent a boat or a paddleboat, you can surf, sail and try out many extreme sports, while in the winter you can ice skate or slide if the ice is thick enough. In Lake Hévíz, you may only bath; however, you can do so every day of the year. The water of Lake Balaton is qualified as drinking water, whereas the water of Lake Hévíz is medicinal water also suitable for cures and many people drink it. In Lake Balaton, you can bath all day long, while, in Lake Hévíz, it is advisable to stay only thirty minutes at a time. We can even walk into Lake Balaton from the shores, while into Lake Hévíz we can descend into the water through stairs since the water is 2 metres deep around the shores as well. The typical flora of Lake Balaton is the reed which is mostly located around the shores. Lake Hévíz is famous for the beautiful water lilies that float around the whole Lake. Both lakes are rich in different species of fish. The mud of Lake Balaton is quite popular with kids who love playing with it on the beaches. On the other hand, the mud of Lake Hévíz is favoured by adults, who like to use the mud on their bodies due to its medical benefits. Lake Balaton as a touristic region is the second most popular region in Hungary after Budapest. At the same time, Hévíz, following Budapest, has the greatest number of guest nights in Hungary. Lake Balaton offers spectacular views whether you are watching it in the embrace of monadnocks, admiring it in a storm, or you are taking photos of the birds gathering along the crevasses or of the bellying sails. The crystal clear turquoise colour of Lake Hévíz, the blooming water lilies floating on it, the whirling mist above it, the reflection of the buildings at night, and to be aware that you are floating above 38.5 meters are a mystical feeling. Both Lake Balaton and Lake Hévíz are national treasures, which have evolved over millions of years as they are today. They are not for us, but we enjoy all the good that they can give us. We have to save and protect them so that the future generations would be able to enjoy the unparalleled natural beauty they provide.
