The last sprint section leads right through Hévíz on 11 May, 2020. The 103rd Giro d'Italia starts in Hungary with the 9.5 km long individual time trial through Budapest on 9 May, 2020. The flat, around 200 km long sections of the 2nd and 3rd stage, which lead to Györ and Nagykanizsa, are taking place between 10 and 11 May. The last sprint section of stage 3 runs through the middle of Hévíz (11.05.20) including the main street of the popular spa and wellness resort. tartalom: + 1  The person carrying out the Fango treatment is called a fangino. A town located in Northern-Italy is famous for Fango treatments, where local residents have been using the healing power of the Fango mud for over 2500 years ago.  Fango is a word with Italian origin and it means odourless and hot mineral mud from volcanic earth. The mud is directly exposed to thermal water, sunshine and air. A so-called “maturing” period is required (which might take up to six months), and during this period Fango slowly fills up with organic substance and “mature Fango” is created. This way Fango becomes suitable for medicinal purposes. The hot mud pack inhibits inflammations, activates the metabolism, stimulates the immune system and helps to prevent the development of illnesses.   During Fango body treatment the hot Fango substance is poured on a plastic foil in a thickness of approximately 2 cm and it is left to cool down to 40 - 50 °C. The guest lays down on the Fango and his/her back is also covered with the material and guest shall spend 20 minutes in the sweating cocoon. The body is wrapped up in hot Fango pack, which results in faster blood circulation and the expansion of the blood vessels. Algae particles of Fango stimulate endorphin hormone production and thus mitigate the pain. Besides the extremely positive impacts of Fango therapy, it is important to note that Fango treatments cause intensive hot sensation, therefore application is not recommended for guests suffering from the below-listed conditions: varicose vein, high blood pressure, blood vessel condition, heart diseases, malignant tumours and acute inflammation.  The traditional Fango body treatment takes place in 4 steps: mudpack thermal bath sweating and finally a massage   As Fango therapy extremely overstrains the body, it is recommended applying the therapy only once or twice a year. Medical consultation is recommended prior applying the treatment. During a therapy 12 to 15 treatments are recommended.

In Hungarian spa town Hévíz you can enjoy next to the international cuisine not only food mentioned above but they also serve the typical sausages, minced meat, game, freshwater fish and various soups. You can complete all above by a delicious wine from the local Egregy vineyard, if you are interested. In this respect, you should definitely not miss 5th year of Hévíz wine festival which is held from August 17th till August 21st and is the biggest local festival.   Hungarian cuisine is based not only on calorically reach food where pork and very often lamb meat is used, but you can also enjoy freshwater fish as a carp, a barbell or a zander. From vegetable are the most used tomatoes, peppers and potato. Typical spice is melted sweet or hot pepper, which gives food characteristics and enticing colour. The soured cream is also used often. The typical pastry is white bread. The food is made on the fat. The Hungary is the home of mangalica pigs whose fat is harmless. From soups you can try in Hévíz tyúkhúsleves (chicken soup with noodles), halaszle (fish soup), jókai bableves (bean soup) or gulyás (soup from meat and pepper) or the real speciality – hideg meggyleves, cold soup from sour cherries. From starters we should mention spicy sausage, Hungarian salami, libamájpástétom - alias pasty from goose liver or. From the main courses you can enjoy pörkölt, pot roast with pepper, which is in contrast from gulyás thickened with flour, tokány represents piquant mix of meat and vegetable, baked pancake filled with meat hortobágyi palacsinta, erdélyi rakott káposzta – acid cabbage baked with meat, rice and cream, or fatányéros – knife board with different types of grilled meat. From local dessert it is worth to taste somlói galuska, glass cup filled with pieces of ban and whipped cream, gundel palacsinta alias pancake filled with nuts and poured with chocolate or krémes, phyllo pastry filled with vanilla cream. The tradition of wine in Egregy Wine-making on Egregy, which is part of the Hungarian small spa town Héviz, has a tradition which goes back to the Roman era when viticulture was introduced to the region. The most remarkable varieties of the region are Italian Riesling, a Pinot Gris and Müller Thurgau, but you can find there also Green veltliner) and different types of Muscat. Egregy hill was classified a high-quality wine region in 1998 and the wines produced here were classified as characteristic wines of the Balaton region. In March 2007 the Wine of the town of Hévíz was chosen in a contest for the first time and this event is also held every year. The wine cellars of local vineyards can be reached easily by moto train or by foot.

The Balaton lake has been well known among countrymen since a long time. It is a good idea to plan your route more to the South and discover the West Balaton region. It is a perfect place for the family holidays, for the history lovers, the fans of water sports or the connoisseurs of the Hungarian cuisine.   Hungarian see The Balaton lake which is ca. 500 km far from the southern borders of Poland, is the biggest lake in Hungary and Central Europe. It is 77 km long and 4 to 15 km wide. The average depth is 2,5 m and the deepest point is 12 m deep a Tihany Well. In summer the temperature of the water oscillates between 22°C a 25°C. The Hungarians call the Balaton lake their sea and it is one of their favorite places for leisure.   Holidays at the West Balaton The West Balaton region is very reach in touristic attractions. There are many beaches and the depth of the lake is not more than 1,5 m for over a few hundred meters. The holidaymakers can rent the water bikes or go on a boat trip, where there are special animation programs for children. Yachting is very popular in the region, there are also many windsurfers take advantage of the winds. Balaton is a paradise for anglers, too. They can fish in silence and serenity, meanwhile the canoeists can admire the beautiful landscapes.  In the vicinity there are many well prepared biking paths and interesting touristic routes. In the offer for those travelling on two wheels are routes of different length and difficulty. Kesthely, a university town with a beautiful palace of the Festetics family built in the middle of the 18th century, can be a good starting point. It is just 6 km far from a charming town of Hévíz, known for the biggest thermal lake in the world where you can swim all year long. Try to discover the secrets of the castles Szigligiet and Sümeg, and then take rest in the Buddhist stupa of peace. Do not forget to include in your itinerary the longest case in Hungary, Csodabogyós in Balatonederics. The city of Hévíz The spa resort Hévíz, with its emblematic thermal lake with unique healing properties, is a perfect place for leisure. The beautiful nature and idyllic atmosphere favor clearing your mind, and one of the biggest attractions is a bath in the turquoise water. Not only is the lake located in beautiful surroundings, but also the waters are rich in minerals, e.g. calcium, magnesium and Sulphur, which help to heal different diseases. There are peat and peloid on the bottom, which have a positive influence on the skin. It is worth mentioning that in May the bath of Hévíz was given a EuropeSpa Med certificate, which confirms the highest quality of service.   Those who visit Hévíz may take a walk in a charming town. Do not forget to visit the church from the 13th century, built during the Arpad dynasty and get acquainted with the ancient artefacts from the region collected in the Museum of Egregy, that was opened to public in 2015. There are also the remnants of the Roman villa, that is nearby. If you would like to get to know history of the town and the lake, you may be interested in the exhibition in the Museum of Hévíz. In the collection there are medical and medicinal relics and also a book dated 1818, which was written by earl Richard Brighton and given to György Festetics, who was a contemporary owner of the lake.   Through the stomach to traveler’s heart A visit to Hungary is an exceptional culinary travel. It is hard to resist the local specialties, as well as hospitality, especially in the vineyards of Egregy. There are many taverns in the area between two street and in the summer you can hear vigorous Gypsy music. In the restaurants there are wine tastings and the landlords offer to the guests a glass of wine and csemege, a fresh house bread with lard, red paprika and onion. One of the most important regional dishes is dödölle, a kind of noodles made of potatoes and flour, fried in lard with onion. As far as the wines are concerned the most recognized vines in the area are Olaszrizling (Italian Riesling), Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) and Rizlingszilváni (Müller Thurgau).

lead: The Hungarian cuisine is based on vegetables and meat. The paprika is the vegetable that is the most typical for this country. There are 75 kinds of it – ranging from sweet till very hot. Among the basic ingredients there are also onion, tomato, and from the meats beef and veal. The dishes are seasoned with pepper, tarragon, thyme, cumin or sage. A rightful place is reserved for the garlic, too.

Apart from the dishes that you can taste everywhere in the country, each region has its characteristic plates, typical for a given area.  Dödölle – local specialty In the a charming city of Hévíz, located 200 km to the south west from Budapest, just 6 km away from the Balaton lake, reigns a dish called dödölle. It is a kind of potato noodles made of potatoes and flour, fried in the lard with onion. They are sometimes served with sour cream. The classic recipe is simple, however you can often meet different variations – with spinach, cottage cheese, celery or beetroot. There are also sweet versions – with apple and cinnamon or strawberries. A feast in Hévíz When you come to Hévíz you need to visit the places where you can taste a wonderful cuisine based on the local products. Family restaurants and old cellars are located by the vineyards. In the Hungarian taverns Hungarian specialties are served by the sounds of Gipsy music, just a few hundred meters from the beautiful lake, tempts with the traditional, modern, fish and vegetarian dishes. It is worth mentioning that Hévíz is most of all famous for the biggest biologically active thermal lake in the world, in which you can swim. The wine from the Balaton region The traditions of wine production in this region date back to the Roman era, when at the Egregy hill (which is in the borders of the town) the viniculture was introduced. In the time of the Arpad dynasty the production was continued which is proven by an official certificate dated back to 1221. The climate is favorable for the cultivation of grapevines, and there are excellent white wines produced here, as well as you can taste red wines, too. The most recognized grape variety includes Olaszrizling (Italian Riesling), Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) and Rizlingszilváni (Müller Thurgau). There are also Zöldveltelini (Grüner Veltliner) and different kinds of Muskotály (Muscat). The most typical for the region is Cserszegi fűszeres. It is resistant to frost, its wine is full-bodied and has a spicy taste. The wines made from this vine were many times awarded. tartalom: + 1 There have been many meetings between Hungarian and Italian organizers over the past few weeks. Eventually, the Hungarian organizing committee has requested that the event be held at a different time, bearing in mind the health and safety of the Hungarian people. Accordingly, the Grande Partenza, the opening event of Giro d'Italia in Hungary, scheduled for 9th-11th May 2020, has been postponed. At one of the biggest cycling races in Europe, a stage finale has been planned in Hévíz, which is of special interest. The town prepared for this with numerous events and fan programs, which are also going to be postponed. The new date of the competition has not been known yet but Hévíz is still ready to host the event and will join the bicycle race with the originally planned accompanying events later.

tartalom: + 1 This year's event will take place immediately after St. Martin's Day, on the weekend from November 12th to 14th. This means that besides the young wine goose will also enrich the menu offerings this year.   Main ingredient: Aszófőer Welschriesling from the Fodorvin winery The title “Wine of the City of Hévíz 2021” went to the 2020 Aszófőer Welschriesling from the Fodorvin winery. The competition took place on July 7 in the restaurant of the Hotel Spa Hévíz with the participation of an expert jury. Our jury was not mistaking, since they truly got the best: the Aszófőer Welschriesling by Fodorvin was again selected as the winner of the Italian Riesling category at the Parliament's Wine Chest in October  2021 from among 218 wines. The family cellar of the Fodorvin winery was built in 1858 in Aszófő, in the Vörösmáli vineyard, where they currently manage 9 hectares as a family business. The reductively produced wine has a pronounced greenish-yellow color, and its aroma is dominated by citric and vegetable notes. The full taste is complemented by a pleasant acidity. It can currently also be purchased in the Hévíz Tourinform office with the label “Wine of the City of Hévíz 2021”.   Exceptional menus and courses In mid-November, the restaurants in Hévíz will prepare more than just special dishes with the winning wine. These delicacies in the Platán restaurant will include, for example, the foie gras ragout with forest mushrooms and Aszófőer Welschriesling on a crispy yeast plait, as well as the crispy leg of goose with sage and rosemary potatoes and apple slices braised in Hévíz city wine. In the NaturMed Hotel Carbona's buffet menu - which is not only open to hotel guests - you can try, for example, a sauerkraut soup with smoked meat, dill and Aszófőer Welschriesling. There will also be a goose stomach ragout with a creamy mushroom sauce, which has been perfumed with Aszófőer Welschriesling.
