lead: Hévíz is open now and welcomes all new and regular guests. In this article, you can read the best ideas of the locals, thematically listed, on what to do to have fun if you relax in Hévíz.
tartalom: + 1 What else could be the main message to everyone this year: LIVE ACTIVELY! STAY FIT! STAY HEALTHY! And the perfect location is Hévíz, where health, health preservation, recreation, and the healing and energies provided by nature have been a part of everyday life for hundreds of years. Most of the shops, restaurants and service providers have already been back to business, the majority of the accommodation establishments have already been open, and some accommodation facilities will welcome guests from the second half of June. Most of the hotels and guesthouses have cosy gardens, parks, outdoor and indoor pools, wellness, and beauty services to make your stay unforgettable. Today, there is nothing to prevent you from taking a perfect summer vacation in the usual quality in Hévíz.
SWIMMING AMONG WATER-LILIES IN THE WORLD'S LARGEST HOT WATER LAKE If you are in Hévíz, you must see Lake Hévíz. And, if it is Lake Hévíz, you can experience the following: bathing, crystal clear hot medicinal water, black mud, waterlilies, small fish, water birds. The rustle of bald cypresses, fresh air and the experience of bathing and relaxing in the park on any day of the year. Surrounded by prestigious, historic buildings, Lake Hévíz is a unique and enticing experience again and again for anyone who has, even once, found pleasure in swimming in 32°C water on a beautiful early-autumn day. In summer, all ages can be found on the beach from 0 to 110 years old. Although the lake is not a water park with giant slides that is why it is different. It is a small wonder of nature that cannot be imitated and compared to other baths. PARKS, WOODS, PROMENADES, GREEN! GREEN! GREEN! EVERYWHERE! Cycle, walk, hike, move freely! In the protective forests surrounding the lake, on the banks of the Hévíz stream or even on the gently sloping hiking trails of the Keszthely Hills, there are many opportunities to explore the area in the fresh air, listening to the songs of birds. Whether you are planning a light stroll or a more serious hike, you will be able to choose from different routes. The Tourinform Office in Hévíz helps the lovers of nature with free hiking and cycling maps, as well as renting bicycles and Nordic walking poles. Besides, thanks to Bakonyerdő (the company looking after the woods), well-maintained routes, rest areas, educational trails, and lookout towers await families in the Keszthely Hills. The latter ones, by the way, offer a fantastic view of Lake Balaton. MEDIEVAL CASTLE RUINS FROM SMALL ONES TO LARGER ONES OFFERING A FULL-DAY EXPERIENCE If you have already been told about hills, mountains, forests, and great views… starting from Hévíz, many ruins of castles can be discovered during a day trip. The nearest is the ruins of Rezi Castle, located only 10 km away, which is an easy walk from Hévíz. A little further away, on Tátika Hill, there are also the remains of a castle in the middle of the forest. If you set off in the direction of Lake Balaton, you will reach Szigliget in 30 minutes, where not only the ruins of a castle but a complex, interactive medieval knight's castle offer a great program for families. What is more, the castle has been renovated in recent months, so it will reopen on 20th June. You can also take a day trip to Sümeg or Nagyvázsony or you can even climb the ruins of Csobánc Castle. If you are looking for the nearest small castle ruin, you will find it on the Main Square (Fő tér) in Keszthely, in the Castle Garden next to the Church of Our Lady of Hungary. ACTIVE ADVENTURES FOR ADRENALINE ADDICTS If you look for active experiences outdoors, and besides that, come to Hévíz with children, you do not have to go far for a little adventure. Children and adults can test their courage on the ropes course in the Tavirózsa Adventure Park located on the confines of Hévíz. Right next to it, the enthusiasts of racing can compete on a go-kart track. The Dino and Adventure Park in Rezi offers moments of forgetfulness for families with small children and dinosaur fans, while older kids can spend a fun day in the Zobori Adventure Park in Zalaszabar. Those who are over 16 can get black-and-blue marks and memories for life in a paintball fight in Gyenesdiás, or learn to water-ski on the beach of Vonyarcvashegy. Those who aim high can do so by a hot-air balloon, a gyrocopter, a microlighter or can enjoy a pleasure flight, while the lovers of the depth can creep and crawl with a tour guide in the caves of the Keszthely Hills. BEFORE OR AFTER THE ADVENTURES YOU HAVE TO EAT SOMETHING DELICIOUS AND FILLING Whether you like international cuisine or traditional Hungarian dishes, high-level gastronomy or the basic flavours of street food, you can choose from more than 50 restaurants in Hévíz, all of which are open throughout the year. The offer is variegated by the Hévíz and Gyenesdiás Farmers' Markets, where three values - local, artisan, and healthy - are added into each delicious product with all heart and soul. And if you want to experience a breezy wine tasting, the row of taverns in Egregy is an unmissable place where the fine wines of County Zala are combined with the view of the Zala landscape. WHAT WE DO NOT WRITE ABOUT IN THIS ARTICLE Roman ruins, medieval churches, the stupa, water mill. Beaches, guided programs, guided sightseeing tours, boat trips, bird banding, Csillagvár (Star castle), museums in Keszthely, the mansion, model railway exhibition. Sports competitions, night tours, camps for children. Places to visit in the Balaton Uplands National Park, Uncle Matula's hut, the unique flora and fauna of Kis-Balaton (Little Balaton), basalt columns. There are so many experiences that await you in all seasons whether you come alone, with your partner or family. Programs not only in nice weather during the summer holiday!  “I like to come to Hévíz because I’ve felt, even the first time, that life in Hévíz is slower but not boring. The streets are not crowded but they are by no means extinct. People are happier, more relaxed, there is time for everything and there are a lot of opportunities, while everything is near at hand that I need in today’s business atmosphere. Quality services, lots of green, fresh air, silence. Here, I only pick up the phone when I want to.” B. Kristóf (Budapest, 2019) [galeria]

tartalom: + 1 After the strictly observed security measures, there has been news every day since May that a service provider has reopened their facilities or services in Hévíz. HAPPY PEOPLE ON THE TERRACES OF RESTAURANTS Now you can see people drinking coffee or wine in a fine mood on the terraces and in the indoor rooms of restaurants and cafés. The wine cellars of Egregy and the ice cream parlours have also been opened. You can have a set menu or choose from the a la carte menu, drink some wine in the evening or sit down for a slice of cake, ‘lángos’ (fried dough) or lemonade after bathing in the lake. As usual, the Hévíz Farmers’ Market is open three times a week, where visitors and, of course, buyers can choose from the full range of products again. HOLIDAYMAKERS AT THE ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES On the shores of the pools of the hotels, guests are occupying more and more sunbeds, couples looking for relaxing wellness, fans of fit life, health tourists and families aiming to explore the area have arrived. The playgrounds and children’s pools are already full of laughter. At the buffets, the usual wide selection awaits the visitors, and in the wellness areas, freshly filled adventure pools and pools of medicinal water can be found. And the interest in private accommodation is even greater this summer. PEOPLE WALKING TO THE LAKE WITH FOAM RUBBER RINGS CAN BE SEEN EVERYWHERE Since the reopening of the Hévíz Lake Bath on 9th May, thousands of visitors have already enjoyed the refreshing and healing power of the hot water. In addition to being a unique natural medicinal lake in the world, it is now a clear attraction of Lake Hévíz that on the 4.4 hectares of water surface and in the park and beach surrounding the lake you can enjoy bathing and relaxing in 32-34°C hot water completely without crowdedness. At Whitsun, the changing rooms of the Main Entrance on Dr Schulhof Vilmos Promenade opened. They had been completely renovated during the winter, so they are now more spacious, colourful, and practical. Since 21st May, the indoor pools and relaxation areas can also be used again, so the windy, overcast weather cannot be an obstacle to a pleasant splash in Hévíz. The drinking fountain in the hospital building will be open to the public again. IT IS WORTH BOOKING AN APPOINTMENT FOR A GOOD MASSAGE IN ADVANCE It is worth making an appointment for a massage with wellness service providers again, and the ladies and gentlemen also arrive one after the other at the hairdressers. There is a lot of interest in healthcare service providers again; dentists, opticians and beauty salons are open again. Local stores constantly receive new summer stocks. THE WITCH OF HÉVÍZ’S SKELETON CAN BE SEEN AGAIN IN EGREGY On 22nd May, the museums of Hévíz reopened, the exhibitions can be visited again, and the churches of the town can be viewed from the inside. IDEAL LOCATION FOR ACTIVE RECREATION The open-air leisure facilities have been operating since the beginning of May, so you can also visit the playgrounds, sports fields, and fitness parks. The Tavirózsa Adventure Park awaits its guests and the largest hot air balloon and gyrocopter in the country fly again. There are guided Segway tours again and players are welcomed to the golf course. Renovated and improved city and touring bikes await those who would rent a bike, and this year, the offer of the Tourinform Office has even been expanded with brand new electric bikes. DIVERSE EXPERIENCE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS Within a 30 km radius of Hévíz, there are many programme opportunities for those who long for adventures. The museums in Keszthely are open, all the exhibitions of the Festetics Mansion can be visited. As a new experience in the bay of Keszthely, the panorama of Lake Balaton can be admired even from a Ferris wheel. After almost a year of renovation work, the Szigliget Castle awaits its visitors again with several experiences, but the places of interest of the Balaton Uplands National Park and the adventure parks of the area are also open. To the greatest delight of the children, qualified child-friendly beaches await those who wish to paddle in Lake Balaton. DON’T GIVE UP ON A REAL VACATION THIS SUMMER. lead: With the new layouts and style the marketing strategy of the city will have new elements as well.
tartalom: + 1 Hévíz used this hard time to renew its communication. For this, besides the experience they had they also asked for help from a creative agency. The main message of the new strategy is to highlight fitness with the help of nature. The guarantee for experience and active leisure time will be also important.   A Fresh Image Harmonised with Nature ‘We wanted to keep the well-known water lily which has been the symbol of Hévíz for years. Of course, we wanted to embody the contemporary trends as well. The water drops which are also the petals of the water lily were coloured to be green and blue which are symbolising the blue water of the lake and the greenery that surrounds it. We hope the new logo will also strengthen the new message: Hévíz can offer many programs besides the lake all year around’ said the art director of Armadillo marketing agency, Ildikó Szőke.     Continuing Building Hévíz as a Love Brand The new communication of the city includes the already familiar health tourism direction but it also highlights ‘slowing down’ and personalised program possibilities. These new elements can be really appealing to an audience who would like to escape from the tiring weekdays to experience various adventures. ’We wanted to show that Hévíz is more than a lake; Hévíz is the fountain of life and adventures!’ said the managing director of Hévíz Tourism Nonprofit Ltd., Tamás Pálffy. ‘It doesn’t mean we would like to get rid of the old traditions. We would rather continue building the love brand. We would really like if the younger generations and the active middle aged would regard Hévíz and its region as one of the most appealing destinations in Hungary. Of course, we won’t forget about our regulars either: we are going to satisfy the needs of the old and the new senior generations as well’.     The Value of Hévíz is for Forever, but its Face Changes with the World The power of the curing water in Hévíz and the unmatched atmosphere made the city quite popular for centuries. As the trends change continuously, those who have been to Hévíz already know that Hévíz is more than a lake! The slow tourism means that there is time for everything what is important. To live healthy, to laugh together, to walk, to eat good, to visit beautiful places, to do sports or just to regenerate in the water. This variety is worth showing to the world in a new way as well. The new image and the new communication strategy walk hand in hand, we hope to show that Hévíz is an amazing destination all year around. The new style is already represented on the website of the city but it will be also found in the marketing campaigns and the city programs.

tartalom: + 1 The largest natural and biologically active thermal lake in the world was declared a "Hungarikum" (meaning special things which are unique to Hungary) years ago and was also included in the list of special national values of Hungary. The flora and fauna of Lake Hévíz are unique due to the water temperature, its composition and its special environment. Due to mild water temperature that you can experience all year around, there is a Mediterranean microclimate around Lake Hévíz, which has produced some very rare animal and plant species. These wonders of nature must be consciously and sustainably protected, and it is precisely for this reason that a comprehensive protection project is being implemented, for which 662 million Hungarian Forints are being invested.   THE PARTS OF THE LARGE-SCALE PROJECT In the nature reserve of Lake Hévíz the reduction of invasive alien animal and plant species, and species protection was introduced, the improvement of the tree population in the protection forest in the nature reserve was executed, The biodiversity of the green areas in the Hévíz-Keszthely moor was increased, Improvements to the water level regulation and the water control system - this includes e.g. the locks – were made. The infrastructure that showcases the Hévíz Lake and the Hévíz Stream as a green corridor between the Keszthely Mountains and the Kis-Balaton was developed. SPECTACULAR PROJECT ELEMENTS DELIVERED ON JULY 14th: the 2.2 km long Water Lily educational trail at the thermal lake 15 m high treetop viewpoint A plank path from which the swampy habitat with the newly filled thermal lake can be admired on accessible routes The resting areas, benches and bridges were renewed   CURRENT PROJECTS: But the work is far from over. Many elements of the project are still in the works, and ideas for further improvements came up that would serve the comfort of guests and residents alike. For example, the design of resting and stretching points next to the running routes, family-friendly natural rest areas, additional planting, but also the creation of a wet biotope is a process that takes several years. In addition, walkers with dogs will not be left without developments in the near future, because development plans have also been drawn up that think about them. The opening ceremony was followed by a tour of the development area, part of which was the handover of the roofed canopy viewpoint, which is currently in trial operation.   [galeria] More information: Tourinform Office Hévíz 8380 Hévíz, Rákóczi str. 2. +36 83 540 131 heviz@tourinform.hu

cím: Testing the Devil’s Waters

tartalom: + 1 The Hungarian spa town of Hévíz is famous for its sulphurous thermal lake and its unconventional therapies. The devil himself once worked the fields around here, but it was such hard going that in a fit of rage, old Harry flung down his plow so hard that it shot deep into the earth – or so the ancient Hungarian legend goes. Warm water henceforth flowed from a spring on that spot and has fed the thermal lake ever since. Resort entrance The reality on this early fall morning in Hévíz is less dramatic:14 degrees Celsius and a light drizzle. After a cool night,a white mist hangs over the deep-blue lake and the bathhouse on stilts at its center with its pretty wooden spires. It looks straight out of a Disney film, but smells like a sulfur mine.   Author Mathias Becker in the thermal lake I wait on the shore, shivering in my shorts. I’m supposed to take a dip in the lake, but not before an attendant has arrived– for safety’s sake. The fumes apparently make some people feel woozy in the water. I stick my big toe in to test it – lukewarm. When my potential life saver comes into sight soon after, I slide into the lake like a fish eager to return to its element. Sedately, I swim by water lilies and on into the fairy-tale landscape. Somewhere beneath me lies the lake’s geological source: Every second, 410 liters of mineral-rich water, heated naturally to a very pleasant temperature by the earth, flow from a crack inthe rock 38 meters down. That’s why the water temperature can be as high as 38° C in summer and only go down to 25° C in  winter. Regular bathing in the lake is said to ease rheumatic complaints and back pain; drinking the water in healing doses reputedly aids digestive disorders. The mists have now evaporated and the first bathers of the day are stepping into the lake. Nearly all have a brightly colored foam pool noodle around their hips. It looks silly but helps keep them afloat – a safety precaution. You’re not supposed to stay in the water for more than half an hour anyway, and it’s completely off limits for anyone with cardiovascular problems. I swim slowly back, then make myself comfortable on one of the sunbeds around the inner pool. The lake has made me drowsy. Tropical waterlilies With a surface area of over four hectares, this thermal lake is the largest in the world suitable for bathing. There is one in New Zealand of a similar size, but at a constant temperature of 55 to 60° C, it is better suited to steaming vegetables than bathing. The Hévíz lake resort, on the other hand, is like a warm bathtub even in frosty weather, making the small town on the western shore of Lake Balaton Hungary’s most popular place of pilgrimage for those with back and joint complaints, even despite its competition within Hungary. From the famous Turkish baths in Budapest to the cave baths of Miskolc (where you have to swim through tenebrous tunnels) and the thermal baths in Hajdúszoboszló (one of Europe’s largest), more than 1300 thermal springs make the country on the Pannonian Plaina veritable healing hotspot. Many a source was only discovered while drilling for oil, but the warm waters of Hévíz were already popular with the ancient Romans. Bathing culture ended soon after the fall of Rome and was only revived in the late 18th century. First came the nobles and the bourgeoisie; then, in the Communist era, it was the turn of the workers. Allegedly, it was the party big wigs who involuntarily stopped the fun: Duringone of their sauna parties, the wooden bathhouse caughtfire and burned down. Rebuilt in 1989, the bathhouse reopened when Communism ended. The old political system disappeared, but Hévíz remained and blossomed. The town recorded over a million overnight stays in 2017, around 40 percent from Hungary, the rest from across Europe. A wellness industry with massage and beauty salons has long become established in and around the resort. Hotels have installed spas, and some flood their pools with the thermal water. To get a sense of the unbroken enthusiasm for Hévíz, I booked in for some of the traditional Hévíz treatments. First, the mud bath. I climb down steps into a steel basin the size of a garden pool that’s anchored in the lake. Just a few steps, and already the heavy mud, making a gloopy, bubblysound at every step, is up to my thighs – and up to my bellybutton when I sit down. A woman beside me reaches for the grainy, strong-smelling mass and gleefully smears it onto her face and shoulders. I bravely follow her lead. That evening, I notice that my skin feels unusually soft and I sleep better that night than I have for a very long time. Awakening the next morning, I can’t wait to get moving and am ravenously hungry. After breakfast, I have a massage appointment in the wellness and therapy area. Stefania Bajer, atherapeutic and sports masseur sporting a severe undercut, greets me with a firm handshake. In just 20 minutes, she has kneaded my muscles so expertly that I still feel the beneficial effects of it days later. I ask her whether my back is in good shape. I’m 40, I jog now and again, but spend most of my time in front of the computer. I haven’t had any pain – so far. “You need to exercise more,” says Bayer, “much more!” Mud wrestler: author Mathias Becker is clearly enjoying his bath Later on, I get to see where a lack of exercise can lead at the bath house: to the underwater “stretching pool,” where patients with back problems are suspended in the water, their arms or neck fastened into a kind of harness so that they cannot move. At the same time, weights attached to their hips pull their vertebraeminimally apart, relieving the discs between them. Developed in 1953 by Károly Moll, a local physician, this therapyis still used successfully on patients with disc problems. As I have no trouble with my spinal discs, I am allowed into thewater with very little ballast for a kind of trial therapy, so to speak. My arms rest on a kind of underwater gymnastics bar and I am drawn down by two three-kilo steel weights attached toa belt. My feet make no contact. “Harascho?” In Russian, Bajerasks the young man next to me whether he’s all right – but he doesn’t look it. My neighbor is wearing the kind of neck brace people wear after a rear-impact collision, and there are two metal bars on top of it, keeping his head above water. “Harascho …,”he breathes softly. As we leave the pool 20 minutes later, Anton Marukhin tells me that he’s a 28-year-old advertising and music video producer living near Moscow, and that he suffers with back pain. “I sit a lot, maybe that’s why,” he says. The doctors in Russia couldn’t help him so his parents sent him to Hévíz. The town’s healing reputation clearly extends far beyond the borders of Hungary. The underwater stretching bath is said to ease back problems. One of the men aiming to help pain patients like Marukhinis Dr. Gábor Domokos, the rheumatology and physiotherapy consultant in charge of wellness and therapy at the resort. He wears white sneakers with his white coat and is 68 but looks much younger. That’s not from bathing in the lake, he says (he cycles a lot and hikes in the hills around Lake Balaton), adding that too much significance should not be read into the lake water alone because no precise physiological explanation has been found for how the minerals work. “But we do know that many people who come to us with chronic pain feel better after the treatment.” The secret probably lies in the package: exercise in the warm water, possibly also the water’s composition, and then the peace, the long woodland walks – recently coined as “forest bathing” – physiotherapy, and a good, healthy diet. And also the sleep, I think to myself. Besides intensive curative swimming physicians recommend longwoodland walks Dr. Gábor Domokosis head of wellness and therapy Finally, I test the mud pack: I lie down on my back and am covered from neck to toe in the warm mass and then wrapped in foil and towels like a napkin dumpling. The mud weighs heavyon my body. Not a minute later and I have dozed off once again. Several days later, once I’ve returned home, I open my case and a sulfurous cloud rises to meet me. A most stimulating odor. I pullon my running shoes and head out the door. I’ve had enough sulfur to last me awhile. Well kept: the lake amid lush greenery GETTING THERE In February, Lufthansa fliesup to six times daily from Frankfurt (FRA) and up to five times daily from Munich(MUC) to Budapest (BUD). tartalom: + 1 After 220 years of medical experience and research, the Traditional Hévíz Therapy became a trademark of Hévíz in 2015. The therapy consists of three basic and four complementary treatments using the healing properties of sulphurous magnesium carbonate water. Experts have recognized that a significant part of the hydro, movement, physio- and electrotherapies of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy is suitable for the treatment of certain problems of the Post-Covid syndrome. In addition, the mineral content of Lake Hévíz, the evaporating water and the climatic effect of the 60-hectare Protective Forest surrounding the lake are also very effective in achieving the healing effect. The Post-Covid Care programme will work on the model of the already proven Traditional Hévíz Therapy. Patients arriving in Hévíz with post-Covid-19 symptoms will receive professional and personalised treatments in the comfort of a hotel, under medical supervision. The programme and the quality of the treatments will be identical, regardless of which Hévíz location the patient chooses.   THE PROCESS OF POST COVID CARE EXAMINATIONS AND TREATMENTS IN HÉVÍZ The specialists in Hévíz try to alleviate or, if possible, eliminate the symptoms of Post-Covid syndrome, such as shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle weakness, concentration and psychological problems. The patient's condition is assessed before arrival using an online questionnaire, and a full medical examination is available before the treatment starts, either at the hotel or at a local private clinic. The specialists aim to put together an individualised treatment programme, as Post-Covid symptoms vary considerably from patient to patient. If the severity of the symptoms indicates it, they may even recommend a hospitalisation different from the programme. The Post Covid Care tests and treatments are designed and supervised by rheumatologists, internists, cardiologists, dieticians and mental health professionals with decades of experience. After the results of endurance, muscle strength of the main muscle groups, oxygen saturation, cardiological and laboratory tests, the recommended treatment programme for the patient is drawn up. Depending on the results, the intensity and frequency of the exercise will also be decided. The duration of the Post-Covid Care treatments varies depending on the severity of the symptoms but is at least one week. The treatments aim to achieve the best possible recovery and fuller rehabilitation as far as possible without the use of medication and with a targeted treatment plan (active movement therapy, passive treatment methods and other physiotherapy techniques). In Hévíz, the hotels offer a wide range of treatments, such as therapeutic massage, electrotherapy, physiotherapy, gymnastics, breathing exercises with chest mobilisation, diaphragm exercise, inhalation, spa treatments, static and dynamic balance, proprioception development, water gymnastics, salt cave, stretching, mental hygiene guidance, dietetic advice, aromatherapies, etc. The climatic environment surrounding Lake Hévíz is an excellent place for outdoor exercises, such as Nordic Walking, walking, yoga or cycling, all of which help recovery.   AIM AND LOCATIONS OF POST-COVID CARE TREATMENTS The Post-Covid Care programme is currently available at five locations in Hévíz: Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa, Hotel Europa Fit, NaturMed Hotel Carbona, Hotel Palace Hévíz and Hotel Spa Hévíz. Participants in the programme aim to use their expertise and as many tools as possible to help people recovering from Covid-19 disease to end the symptoms that persist and affect the quality of life. They believe that their expertise, Hévíz's unrivalled facilities and the comfort of a hotel can work together to help patients make a full recovery as quickly as possible. Detailed information about the Post Covid Care programme can be found on the website of the town of Hévíz: www.heviz.hu

In addition to the drink, of course, the individual snacks that go with the respective beer should not be missing. After some drinks and some food, head towards the stage on Rákóczi Street, where concerts will heat up the atmosphere. More details about the program will be revealed soon, keep an eye out.    AUGUST IS ALL ABOUT WINE  For the summer heat, our crowd favourite Wine and Gastro Promenade will return too. For the program we await lovers of wine and everyone who would like to feel how a big festival feels like in Hévíz. In addition to tasting the most delicious wines, there will be many concerts and programs for children as well. Details to come soon!   We've only mentioned the biggest names and festivals, but of course there will be other concerts and parties throughout the year. So, before you set off, it's worth checking our Facebook page and website for the most up-to-date information. Of course, there will be also regular programs such as guided walks, cinema, bicycle tours, organ concerts, exhibitions, and our well-known Farmers' market.  The organizers reserve the right to change the program in any case.      More information: Tourinform Hévíz 8380 Hévíz, Rákóczi str. 2. heviz@tourinform.hu +36 83 540 131

tartalom: + 1 The IMTM 2023 – International Mediterranean Tourism Market was held two months ago in Expo Tel Aviv for the first time after COVID. The exhibition was a success. Endless booths and representations of both countries and private tourism providers alike. Walking between the cubicles and meeting hundreds of professionals, I suddenly noticed a small modest counter in a remote corner with the Hungarian flag. There I met Petr Ostrovkin, an impressive businessman with his intrepetor. I was curious about the product he was trying to market – a hotel in Hungary he owns on a small lake I never heard of. Petr invited me to visit and within a few weeks I found myself spending an incredible time by Europe’s largest thermal basin – lake Hévíz, chick to chick with Lake Balton.
There I investigated, discovered and experienced – why do Hungarians desire top thermal baths so much. Or, is it true that Hungary is indeed a “bathing world-power”.  The explanation is rather straightforward – history, tradition and geography are all mixed, like a traditional Jewish Cholent. The Romans that ruled in ancient Hungary left first their famous mark here. They had bathing and cleaning habits. Bathing was an important part of their lifestyle, which meant refreshing the body and soul. They built baths in this region, mainly for their military forces. Several private baths were also framed by wealthy Romans in their mansions. It is believed that the Roman healers built separate bathing complexes for those who were in poor health condition.   Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule – an art wall creation in Rudas bath, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) Going back in time – Rudas turkish style sink, Budapest (photo by Motti Verses) However it is believed that the Hungarian bath culture started flourishing with medieval Turkish rule. The Ottoman Empire, historically  the Turkish Empire, controlled much of southeast Europe, including Hungary. They are the ones that lay down the foundations of thermal baths. The Ottomans also introduced people to the habits of their wellness treatments. Massages, body creams and oils. The Turks valued bathing as both a cleansing ritual and social gathering. The Hungarians were doubtful. Only the Turks were allowed to use the baths during the day. Curious Hungarians only went to the thermal baths at night-time, especially in Budapest that was and still is a city of bathing power. The rest is history. Over the years these baths became part of a balanced life culture in Hungary. Bearing in mind that the country has no access to an ocean or a sea, relying on Lake Balaton for recreational needs, local baths flourished. The neighbors in Austria, once part of the joint dual Monarchy under the name Austro-Hungarian Empire, similarly love thermal baths . Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin (photo by Motti Verses) Endless steam – Lake Hévíz (photo by Motti Verses) A small creek with water coming from the lake- similar as the hotel thermal baths (photo by Motti Verses) No wonder the small Lake Hévíz, Europe’s largest thermal basin is an extremely popular destination – a two hours drive, either from Budapest or Vienna. It is 38.5 meters deep, with 410 liters per second water flow rate and biologically volcanically active – a natural thermal lake with magical health capabilities. Some call it the fountain of life. Since 1795 these healing waters helped people to recover and regain their strength. Most visitors return home refreshed and rejuvenated. Experts indicate that the chemical ingredients of cold and hot water springs, with 40 degrees of sulphuric medicinal water here, are richer than those in thermal baths in Budapest. Hévíz is where Petr Ostrovkin’s hotel is. He hopes Israelis will in time flock to his shimmering estate. His Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa offers 232 rooms and suites and is an ultimate destination for a relaxing and therapeutic vacation. The hotel is located in a gigantic natural park within walking distance to Lake Hévíz. This walk is rather surreal along a small creek with steam water coming from the lake. Our visit was just recently but the temperatures were low and a constant drizzle dominated our stay. Endless steam evaporates as the water temperature is very high. Guests may enjoy Lake Hévíz mineral water reaching the spa via pipes. Definitely the most rewarding experiences one can enjoy here. Lotus Therme is a pampering traditional hotel. A variety of different indoor pools in contrasting water temperatures are offered. The great jacuzzi was the strongest I have ever experienced. The main round pool is heated, but does not contain healing water. Pouring rain while your body is soaked deep in hot water is just paradise. We loved our morning swim in this well maintained pool. A unique experience in any weather conditions. The wellness spa offers a variety of treatments with Lake Hévíz products, however we did not experience them. The pampering pools were just fantastic. The daily scenery from the room balcony – total relaxation (photo by Motti Verses) A great experience while swimming – constant drizzle with steam evaporation, as the water temperature is very high (photo by Motti Verses) The relaxing lobby of Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus is the key element here as this water flower really blossoms on this never surprising natural wonder. Apparently they like the volcanic water and always thrive in warm water with a need room to grow. The lake provides the perfect environment and the hotel wisely promotes this unique phenomenon as a marketing tool in its logo and with endless art creations all over the facilities. Advertisement   Hungarians and Austrians might carry a mosaic of a historical ambivalent relationship, but both people surly adore Lake Hévíz. The majority of guests in the hotel originate from those countries that share love for thermal baths. Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa is offering both food and entertainment with this fact in mind. Pleasant veteran General Manager Attila Fulop is heading skilled team members that work here for many years. Dressed with formal clothes they all recognize the guests who keep returning here. Loyal customers are the best proof for success. The menu at dinner is different each evening and the variety is one of the most generous I have seen. The bar is crowded each night and live dancing with different musicians each day are offered here. Guests of all ages are actually dancing. General Manager Fulop knows his work. A dream of a good hotelier is to keep his guests in its premises and not looking for alternatives elsewhere. A variety of different indoor pools in contrasting water temperatures are offered (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus is the key element here as this water flower really blossoms on the lake (photo by Motti Verses) The bar – live dancing with different musicians each evening (photo by Motti Verses) Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa by night (photo by Motti Verses) With General Manager Attila Fulop(left) – a true Hungarian professional hotelier(photo by Motti Verses) One question remains. Will Israelis flock to Hévíz? Hamat Gader hot springs site in the Yarmouk River valley, used since the classical antiquity, is one of the most popular attractions for Israelis. With that in mind and the endless daily flights from Ben Gurion airport to Budapest, the potential is certainly there. Especially in winter when the flight costs are rock bottom. Hévíz here we come.

So we went to test some adventure parks at the western end of Lake Balaton to see where it's worth going now, so before the beach season.
tartalom: + 1 Let's see the offer, fairly, in ABC order: Bobo Fun Park - Adrenaline Arena The Bobo Fun Park opened in Alsópáhok in 2021, but we think the name Adrenalin Arena is more descriptive. How to describe it simply: a huge, really huge, two-level hall, which is very demanding and spectacular inside and out, full of crawling-climbing-jumping experiences. The arena has a morning and an afternoon game time, and you can choose from two types of tickets, depending on how committed you are. There are also separate coin-operated, paid VR experiences, but the main attractions are rather the moving tracks. Climbing walls, trampolines, ninja track, indoor rope course, etc. It's a great experience for adults, even without children. Who do we recommend? For anyone who likes to move, crawl and climb, whether as a family, with small children or with friends. This place can be perfect for teenagers and even adults, if they want a little (big) exercise and a challenge. Bobo Fun Park - Adrenalin Arena's own website Advantages very demanding location, with demanding games provides recreation for several age groups it moves mom and dad too the VR room is a real treat for those who like futuristic experiences cleanliness, order regardless of the weather, it is always open You can easily get here from Hévíz on foot, by bicycle or by bus Consider this! you have to pay attention to the playing time, as the day is divided into two periods it is forbidden to bring in food and drink, in exchange there is of course a high-quality buffet with hot and cold food and drinks it's a shame that you have to pay extra for VR experiences Our tip: For future guests: rules apply to wearing shoes and socks indoors! Therefore, make sure to find out before we go! For the operators: Some outdoor games would also be great, maybe a laser fighting track or a mini go-kart.
DinoparkRezi The pairing may seem strange at first, but the park located on the border of Rezi has both life-sized moving dinos and adventure games. With the daily ticket, you can use many experience elements, such as rope courses, pool football, children's climbing wall, mini golf courses, bocce and bull rodeo, walking dino, treasure hunt, boating, trampolines, playgrounds, light railway, while some games can be used with tokens (token price: HUF 250): grip machines, air hockey, foosball table, simulators, basketball machine. Who do we recommend? Where at least one child is a dino fanatic. The park is a great experience with smaller children. DinoparkRezi's own website Advantages: the rope courses are good for several age groups, there is a section that even preschoolers can use It is even within reach by bicycle from Hévíz during the summer season there are quite a few different game options to choose from there is also a restaurant/buffet, but you can also bring your own food it is in an open space, in a large area, so there is no crowding it is open every day Consider this! outdoor, therefore only recommended in good weather some of the games are age-restricted   Our tip: There may not be enough trees, so in the hot sun, be prepared with sunscreen, water, a cap, and a hat to prevent sunburn. Some of the toys may be a little old, and it shows here and there, but dinos don't age.
Water Lily Adventure Park The Tavirózsa Gardening Center is located between Hévíz and Keszthely. Don't let the name mislead anyone, the Tavirózsa Adventure Park is actually located in a garden, and it should be added here that it is in a correspondingly wonderful environment. While mother/father/grandmother is enjoying the plants, perhaps selecting or shopping, the children can test their courage on the rope course. There is also minigolf, archery, foot billiards, pedal go-karts, and treasure hunting. The main thing is a safe environment and a safe gaming experience! Of course, there is also a buffet, where you can enjoy refreshing drinks or freshly baked filled pies under a pleasant gazebo. Who do we recommend? For grandmothers who would like to bring their grandchildren to a place for a few hours where they will be safe, and if they are not participating in archery together, they can relax in an arbor and enjoy the flowers. Tavirózsa Adventure Park's own website Advantages: the environment is wonderful and the operating couple is very nice the games are recommended for children under the age of 16 easily accessible by car or bicycle, but there is also a bus stop a few meters away for the more adventurous, there is also a go-kart track in the immediate vicinity it is open from Monday to Saturday Consider this! outdoor, so only recommended in good weather the ropeway is not very high, so it is not great for adrenaline junkies it's not a very big park, so it's not a full-day program, but that can even be an advantage Our tip: Go with your eyes open, because it is difficult to find the park at first, but not because it is not easily accessible, but because we only notice the horticulture. ZOBORI EXPERIENCE PARK The largest adventure park in the region, on a huge area, with a wonderful panorama of Little Balaton. In Zobor, there are both outdoor and indoor games, 4XD Cinema, escape room, adventure castle, giant trampoline, rope course, slide, free fall tower, laser combat, airsoft, water dodgem, VR experiences, water playground and the biggest attraction is the roller coaster. But there are even live animals, and even if you're in the area, you shouldn't miss the wine estate. The park is a real treat, with many attractions, which are best viewed as a full-day program. Who is it recommended for? Especially for families with children, if the goal is to find a full-day program with lots of comings and goings and adventures, which can be an option even in bad weather. Zobori Amusement Park's own website Advantages in a very large area many different attractions demanding design, buildings, walkways, rest areas there are also outdoor and indoor programs a good experience for many age groups Companions over the age of 65 have a walking ticket there are also several buffets and self-service restaurants Consider this! outside of the summer season, it is only open on weekends unless you are staying here in the village, it is only accessible by car here, too, there are token experiences that are not included in the ticket price Our tip: It's a good idea to set a budget in advance as to how much you want to spend on the program, because the horse can run away with us when it comes to chip games.
Are you interested in more experiences and attractions in the same area? We have more tips, you can find more ideas here! >>>   Opening image: Zobori Adventure Park

tartalom: + 1 Beach with an umbrella?! Yes! Swimming in Hévíz is an experience even when it rains or the weather is cooler! The temperature of Lake Hévíz is about 35-36 °C in summer even with rain and wind. If the rain bothers you, you can also relax in the warm water in the building above the lake. Water lilies open up when it rains, and when the air temperature is cooler than the water temperature, one may even be surprised, since the warm water lake is usually steaming!     Summer is not just about the beaches! At the western end of Lake Balaton, there is a lot to do in rainy or cloudy weather as well. 5 program tips around Hévíz in rainy weather: The Farmers' Market of Hévíz can be visited three times a week, on Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, where you can buy delicacies and handmade trinkets. The Bobo Fun Park is open when it rains as well! The largest adrenaline arena on Lake Balaton and in Hungary was opened just a year ago, and the indoor facility is open for everyone! For adults, the park is full of relaxation and excitement, as it offers a lot of sporting, active recreation in a huge square while for children the park offers curious adventures.     The exhibitions of Helikon Castle have so many exhibitions that one day is not enough to see everything. Why not visit the Festetics Castle on a rainy day? You even have the possibility to visit the several exhibitions with a two-day combined ticket, such as the Noble forms of life, the carriage museum, the railway model and hunting exhibition, or the palm house. In the Castle Museum, many exhibitions have been renewed in recent years, so it's worth taking a look. What's more, each day a themed program awaits the guests as well like guided tours in the castle park, guided tours in the castle from the cellars to the attic and so on.     The Imre Festetics Experience Center awaits everyone! The House of Nature and Animal Park is located at the border of Gyenesdiás, only 10 minutes from Hévíz. With interactive exhibition and many local animals the park is fun for the whole family!     Just around the corner Don't miss the following programs if you are looking for nice activities to do when it's cloudy! The Sümeg Castle Games offer an exciting program for everyone. Throughout the summer you can enjoy the thrill of the knight's tournament every Wednesday and Saturday and you can even take part in a medieval dinner afterwards. The program is perfect in any weather, because when it rains there is a huge knight's hall at the foot of the castle hill, just below the restaurant.      If you would like to do something that brings you closer to nature, taking on a boat trip in the Cave Lake of Tapolca is the perfect program for you! During the summer months, there are always many people at the Visitor Center of the Balaton Upland National Park in Tapolca, where you can get acquainted with the earth's caves in a 3D exhibition and then experience rowing in the crystal clear waters of the cave. In the permanent exhibition of the Balaton Museum you can get acquainted with the past and the present of Lake Balaton. Even though it's a little unplesant to bathe in Lake Balaton when it rains, if there is no wind you can still go on a hip cruise. In the summer months, 1-hour cruises set off from the port of Keszthely.   Hike and enjoy the thousand wonders of nature! Trips on foot and by bike in the area might be a good program to consider. In the Keszthely Mountains you can choose from easy  to extreme hiking trails. We offer special hiking routes on our premises and you can rent children's and adult bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters at the Tourinform Office of Hévíz. The Kányavári Island and Buffalo Reserve at Kis-Balaton are also charming despite of the rain. On the 2.5 km-long nature trail you can admire the water spiders or the great egret up close. You can take part in a Hungarian "safari" program in the buffalo reserve.     You can also get to know native Hungarian animal species in the Africa Museum in Balatonederics, or at the Salföld Ranch in the Balaton Upland National Park. You can also test your stamina in the adventure parks of the area, such as Tavirózsa Adventure Park in Hévíz or the much larger Zobori Adventure Park in Zalaszabar. But you can also walk through dinosaurs in the Dinosaur Park in Rezi.   And last but not least, roam the volcanic sites of the Keszthely Mountains and Lake Balaton! Enjoy the beauty of the hiking trails, the unique panorama of Lake Balaton, visit the castle ruins (Szigliget, Rezi, Tátika, Csobánc) or the basalt organs, because the hilly landscape around awaits hikers every day. Of course, these programs are also wonderful in sunny weather! Discover Hévíz and its surroundings every day of the year, because the visitor places are constantly renewed, beautified and expanded with new experiences! tartalom: + 1 Hévíz Turisztikai Np. Kft. participates in this year's Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture events with its program series Forest Mystery. The Forest Mystery, or Game in Green! the main concept of events in Hévíz is to use natural spaces for cultural events where people, nature and art can connect! It was obvious that the main location of the programs to be realized is the Northern Nature Reserve next to Lake Hévíz, where micro-concerts, children's performances and geobotanical walks are organized several times between April and October. One of the special elements of this series of events the pART forest exhibition opened on August 4, 2023 at 16:00. Anyone who knows the area and has seen the exhibition - which is not only the location but also the theme of the forest itself - can easily understand the choice of title. The pART forest exhibition is located on a forest path next to the northern stream of Lake Hévíz. By walking in the forest, we can get to know the hidden beauties that are usually difficult to see with the naked eye, or remain hidden during an average walk, through an exhibition showing the wildlife of the nature reserve, selected from more than 60 pictures. Pictures of wonderful birds, special plants, small animals and bugs can be seen on the pictures stretched on and between trees. A significant part of the works are paintings, the work of nature illustrator Márton Zsoldos. The exhibition also includes some photos taken by nature conservationists Előd Búzás and Gábor Sinka, here, in the immediate vicinity of Lake Hévíz. The opening of the forest exhibition is a wooden gate with the motto of the exhibition: "Open to nature!" On behalf of the organizer Hévíz Turisztikai Np Kft., Tamás Pálffy emphasized that the aspects of nature conservation, sustainability and green events were taken into account when organizing the entire Forest Mystery program series. Every event tries to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint, and in all its elements it strives to bring people, nature and the cultural experiences that can be experienced in nature closer to each other in such a way that they interfere with nature only to a small extent, but in no case in a harmful way. Recycled wooden picture frames donated by local residents were also used for this exhibition, and sugar asparagus was used for mounting. The forest exhibition is expected to be on display until September 30, but this may even change due to the use of natural materials and the development of weather conditions. In this case, durability was not even a goal. However, the gate remains! Because whether there is a pART Forest Exhibition in the Hévíz Véderdø or not, the message is always valid: Open to nature! A small taste of the exhibition can be viewed in this photo gallery!
