lead: + 3 After the limited spring, you definitely want to get out of the four walls, move freely and enjoy the pure nature. The possibilities for hiking, running, walking and cycling between the thermal lake in Lake Hévíz and Lake Balaton are limitless.

tartalom: The scenic beauty of Lake Hévíz and the western corner of Lake Balaton are inviting nature lovers to explore their own freedom: the six-kilometre-long Hévíz-Keszthely cycle path starts in the forest next to the thermal lake and leads directly to the 204-kilometer Balaton cycle route . Those who cycle along the northern shore of Lake Balaton must discover the medieval castle ruins and the many volcanic hills all around the Szigliget peninsula (approx. 30 km).   From Balatongyörök (15 kms from Hévíz) you can also travel by ship with your bike and cross the Lake over to Balatonmáriafürdő which is located on the southern shores of Lake Balaton. From there it is another 30 kilometers back to Hévíz. Fenékpuszta with its Roman ruins or the Kis-Balaton National Park with the visitor centers, the internationally known bird reserve and the buffalo reserve are also ideal stops along the long ride. If you take the southern route on the Balaton cycle route from Keszthely, you can also head directly to the Kis-Balaton (approx. 15 km). We would also like to reccomend another cycle tour which is about 30 kilometers long and leads northwest of Hévíz through the Zala Valley. Along the way, beautiful viewpoints, sights, small wine cellars and the so called csárdas invite you to stop and admire the hidden beauties of the region.   The breathtaking beauty of Transdanubia with its gentle curves between the Bakony forest and the Keszthely Mountains, the hills of Somogy and Zala are also known for the many hiking routes and natural attractions. 20 kms west of Hévíz, as part of the Balaton Uplands National Park can be found the five-kilometer-long stalactite cave, called Csodabogyós. About 30 kilometers northeast of Hévíz, a the small town can be found, called Tapolca which has one of the most breathtaking attractions of the region. In the Cave Lake of Tapolca you can take rowing boat trips under the city. Wine hikers must travel to Szigliget which is located on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. Next  to Szigliget, Badacsony is also a great place for wine lovers. The Badacsony witness mountain has a volcanic origin which gives an extravagant taste to the wines served there. Welschriesling and Pinot Gris vines are the most notable wines of the region, which you should definitely try while stopping there. Water paradise for children Swimming with rubber rings in thermal lake, which temperature is reaching 38 °C in the summer, definitely won’t insult anyone and your older children are not going to complain about cold water. What to do in case your sunshine gets bored over swimming in lake? There is a special children pool for the smallest (under 12 years) opened right next to the lake in the summer. Kids can not only enjoy the water to the fullest, but there are also special animators programs offered and they can try water gymnastics, test their swimming ability or enjoy games with creative water crafts. Hévíz has a high level service, therefore you can lend bikes for the whole family there. System of cycle tracks is well branched and would offer great experience to you as well as to your children. If any of you is too tired to bike, you may try Segway instead. Children older eight years are allowed to drive alone, otherwise for younger ones can be carried by the adults in a little trailer after the Segway. Family trips for history, animals or adventure You don’t need to be a professional athlete to handle walks around the city and in the surroundings. Touristic symbols and sign-posts will help you in the orientation.  There is a great amount of ruins in Hévíz surroundings for example Tátice, Szigliget or Sümeg, where you can personally find out and try the medieval history. Treasure of the area is chateau Festetics in town called Keszthely. A museum in the chateau has permanent hunting exposition, there is also the carriage museum or Animal Park. In the Keszthely city centre is puppet museum, historical panopticum as well as snail Parliament. Next to the road on the way to Keszthely is an Adventure Park, where kids are invited to enjoy several games.

tartalom: + 1 The Cross and the Star There is a small eye-catching building in Helikon Street in Hévíz. At its peaks, the symbols -a cross and a star - indicate that we are in a sacred place. There is also a column next to it erected to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation with the inscription in Hungarian 'Az ige kőszálként megáll', which is a quote from Psalm 46 meaning 'That word above all earthly powers'.     Although only a few Protestant residents were registered in Hévíz, a collection was in procession for the construction of a Protestant church by the guests staying here in the 1930s. Bálint Szeghalmy also made a plan in 1941. The money donation was collected for its implementation, but the raging war stopped his dream to become real. Finally in 1993, Hévíz donated a plot of land to build a joint Lutheran-Reformed church. The Lutheran and Reformed congregations decided to implement the old plan of Bálint Szeghalmy in a slightly modernized version, prepared by architect Mihály Zoób.     The cross placed on the gable of the church was carved out of white marble at the contractor's own expense. The bell is a donation from the family of Károly Borsos. The foundation stone was placed down on June 16, 1997, and the first service was held on December 6, 1998. In 2003, the church was enriched with the winged altarpiece of the Kossuth and Munkácsy Prize-winning tapestry artist Rózsa Polgár, and in 2004 with the organ designed and built by the organ builder Albert Miklós from Győr.   The Heart of Jesus Church, also known as Fradi Church In 1905, in the neighbourhood of the Roman ruins in the Egregy district of Hévíz, a two-storey bell tower was erected in place of the wooden belfry that had stood there for more than 100 years. In 1937, from local donations, the bell tower was expanded with another level and a tin roof. It was built in a Neo-Romanesque style with twin windows. Two bells were placed in the tower, a smaller one in honor of Mary Magdalene, which was cast in 1905, and a larger one in memory of the 16 heroic soldiers of Egregy who fell in World War I. The latter was made in 1937. In memory of the heroes, 16 linden trees were planted next to the tower, with a head tree at their base.     The bell tower was then renovated in 1990 with the voluntary donation of the people of Egregy, and on April 22, 1995 it was consecrated as the Church of the Heart of Jesus. And why is it called Fradi Church by the locals? Because the church, which was built largely from donations, received unexpected help, as the Ferencváros Gymnastics Club (a famous Hungarian football team from Budapest, nicknamed as Fradi) was also among the donors as well. Not only did the supporters make a financial contribution, but the team and club leadership were present at the consecration of the church. They even donated Fradi Relics to the church (most recently in 2017), which visitors of the church could see in a display case. In light of this, it is not surprising that the church, originally designed in blue and white, was eventually painted green and white which are the official colours of the football team.     Next to the church, a military memorial park was established in 2000 to commemorate the soldiers, civilians and Jewish victims of Egregy and Hévízszentandrás who fell in the First and Second World Wars. In doing so, 70 named headstones were erected. However, only 6 remained of the former 16 linden trees planted.     The Catholic Church on the shores of Lake Hévíz The western shore of Lake Hévíz (today's Schulhof Promenade and the area of ​​the hospital buildings) used to belong partly to the village of Szentandrás and partly to the bishopric of Veszprém. These areas became the property of the Festetics family in 1857 and 1868 through land swaps. Soon after the expansion of the bath land near the lake and landscaping could begin. The row of the completed (except for one building) 7 bath buildings was completed by a chapel. Its construction began in the 1870s and was consecrated in 1877.     We only have a few old engravings and postcards from the chapel, and we also found only a few photos of the inside. The chapel was finally demolished in 1964, when the most modern balneotherapy center in the country was built in its place in the most modern architectural style of the time. It is essentially the hospital’s indoor thermal bath, the Winter Bath, today’s Indoor Bath and Therapy Center, which was handed over in 1968.     The altar of the old Church is going to be exhibited soon on the renovated Shulhof Promenade.   The Holy Spirit Church The most modern and well-known church can be seen from the beginning of the main street leading to the city, as its blue peaks rise high. The church opposite the town hall, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people, was built according to the plans of János Bocskai and was consecrated on September 9, 1999 by retired Archbishop József Szendi.     Breaking into the seven (5 middle and 2 side) towers, the tower guides its visitors to the city from afar. The seven towers symbolize the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, while the pigeon motif symbolizing the Holy Spirit appears in several places on the building (even the shape of the church looks like a dove opening its wings if we look at the church from the air). On the one hand, in the floor plan of the church, in the design of the floor in front of the entrance, in the motifs of the interior wood and in the painting of the glass window above the main altar.     The interior of the church combines modern architecture and tradition, which is mainly emphasized by the beautiful wood paneling. Due to its good acoustics, it often hosts organ and acoustic concerts. The colorful windows, reminiscent of Gothic style, praise the work of Simon Endre, an artist from Hévíz. The torso on the wall of the sanctuary is a 200-year-old art treasure that was donated to the church. The bronze statue of Christ on the left side of the altar and the statue of Our Lady of Hungary wearing the crown on the right side are also the work of László Marton. The walls are decorated with fire enamel pictures. No bells were placed in the tallest tower for static reasons, but 2-2 bells were placed in the towers to the left and right. Two bells were brought here from 2 old churches in Hévíz, while the other two were donated by families in Hévíz. By the way, the church is mostly mentioned only by the locals and guests as "Blue Church".   The Synagogue, only a memory If we walk towards the Protective Forest of the Lake, next to the entrance to the Deák Square of the Lake Bath, a monument appears at the foot of the trees in the park. The synagogue of Hévíz used to stand here. The lines of the monument evoke the facade of the building of the former house of prayer, with names on it that were once taken from here to death. Among others, dr. Chief physician Vilmos Schulhof.     There were not many Jews living in Hévíz, it is estimated that there could be no more than 2-3% of the population, yet this community was strong enough to build a synagogue in 1933. It is a strange game of fate that the building survived both the Holocaust and the war fortunately, but by 1959 the religious life in Hévíz had ceased. As a result, the house of prayer was not used, its condition greatly deteriorated, so it was demolished in 1977. The monument, erected in 2000, in its simplicity commemorates the former synagogue on the one hand and the former local Jewry on the other, and the pebbles placed on it indicate that faith has survived.   Árpádian church in Egregy, the Church of St. Magdalene The exact time of construction of the church is unknown, it was probably built around mid-13th century. It is first mentioned in written records in 1341. The building was badly damaged in the 16-17th century, and was later renovated in the Baroque era in 1731. Fortunately, only the most necessary parts were repaired, so the medieval form of the church has been preserved. During this renovation, the interior and exterior decorative paintings, the elevation of the ship, and the vaults were also replaced. The first patron saint of the church was St. Catherine of Alexandria. After the rebuilding, it was rededicated and its new patron saint became St. Magdalene. Since then, the church has been restored several more times: in 1860, 1912, 1964-65, 1990 and 1991, and most recently in 2015.     On the south side of the church, we can find an open baroque door. The vault of the tower was renovated in the 18th century and is joined by a rectangular nave with a sanctuary. Inside the church, the only decorative element,  is the row of booths on the north wall. The wall painting of the church is not of medieval origin, but it shows respect for the folk elements. Inside the building, there is a fragment of a Romanesque baptismal font and a medieval consecrated cross.   Its tower has three floors and a rich design, with two and three twin windows opening on the levels. The tower is closed by a bucket helmet, which is stiffened by eight wooden beams. In terms of its foundations, it mainly preserved the forms of wooden architecture. Painted decorations and incised shapes have survived on the exterior surfaces. The church may have remained in this form because it lost its significance during the centuries. The former settlement was largely depopulated, the inhabitants moved a little further down the valley, so this church only served as a cemetery chapel. Therefore, it was not important to expand or transform it significantly.   An Orthodox church built in honor of the “Life-giving Source” icon of the Holy Mother of God The foundation stone of the Orthodox church was placed down on 27 December, 2019 in Hévíz. The church which is still under construction will be accessible from Ady Street.     Construction of the church began in the spring of 2020. As metropolitan Mark put it: their choice fell on Hévíz because here the healing of body and soul is possible at the same time, and because Hévíz boasts that Emperor Theodosius owed his life to the water of Hévíz and became one of the most influential in the Roman Empire according to an old legend. The church is based on the plans of the Ybl-awarded architect László Vánca. The 15x15 meter church is traditionally made of brick, with masterfully smoothed corners on its sending walls showing the asymmetrical relief niches, which are masterful combinations of modern and ancient motifs. The Orthodox tower helmet will be adorned with an eight-pointed gold-clad cross. tartalom: + 1   23rd February | Carnival of Hévíz Traditional Pig Slaughter and Charityorganized the community of the Farmers’ Market of Hévíz.The guests will have the chance to taste the previously mentioned traditional food and drinks. On the afternoon begins the masquerade parade, the burning of a straw figure to drive the cold and you can buy from the famous carnival doughnut.      19th-22nd April | Easter Fair of Handmade Goods The season starts with diverse programs in which you can get to how a typical Hungarian Easter is celebrated. Each day of the Easter Festival the visitors awaitwith fairs, playhouses and traditional food, of course.       1st-5th May | Hévíz at the Turn of the Century The event, which was started in 2011, evokes the ‘golden years’ of Hévíz, a period that lasted from the 1860s to the 1930s. The town tries to recall the atmosphere of the palmy days of peace in every possible way during the event: organ-grinders wearing tails and top hat play music in the streets, ladies dressed in hoop skirt and hat walk in the flowering park leading to the thermal lake. The event will be opened by a costume parade accompanied with live music and dance, in the course of which the professions and trades of the period will be presented.   11st May | Flavius Day In Egregy (a district of Hévíz) next to the remains of the Roman villa, in a beautiful landscaped area, we recall the traditions of Roman times: gladiator fights, toga parades, ancient oracles, the fashion and hairstyle, as well as ancient board games. You can have a taste from the dishes and drinks of the period.     19th May | 4th Running Festival of Hévíz The runners who manage to run 4-14-21 km will not only get to experience a well-organised event but they also will be gifted T-Shirts, medals and an unforgettable experience! The half marathon can be done individually or in a relay.       5th-8th June | Pentecostal Merriment and Fair During the four-day Pentecostal celebrations, we await the visitors of Hévíz with joyful programmes and activities. The tradition of electing the king and queen of Pentecost will also be evoked. During the festivities, don’t miss the Pentecostal fair and playhouse either.       16th June | XIV. Lotus RetroConcours D'Elegance At the Lotus Retro Mobil Concours d'Elegance, precious and exotic collectibles from Hungary, Austria and Germany find their way to Hévíz. On Sunday in the large park of the Lotus Therme "high-gloss atmosphere", when the beautiful models of Mercedes, Lotus, Jaguar, Corvette, Cadillac or Porsche can be viewed and evaluated. You can further expect a grill tent, kid’s programs.     21st-23rd June | Angels and Vagabonds All-arts Festival including International Colony of Artists, Cinematic Art Symposium, Street Music and Street Art Festival and the Long Night of Museums Visitors will be offered lively and colourful programmes in the centre of Hévíz during the three-day event. The multiplicity of music (country, pop, dixie, guitar, accordion and brass band music, relaxing music, folk music, as well as jazz and pop), along with showmen, living statues, acrobats, street artists walking on stilts, painters, draughtsmen make the weekend fascinating and unforgettable.   6th-7th July | Flavours, Dances, Good Neighbours including Folklore and World music Festival In the course of this two-day festival, in addition to the wonderful treasure of the Hungarian folk dance, folk music and cuisine, the folk art and gastronomy of the neighbouring countries will also be introduced, as it is referred to in the title.     20th July | St. Mary Magdalene Fair in Egregy The patron saint of the Árpád-age church in Egregy is St. Mary Magdalene. The parish feast is held in her honour on Mary Magdalene’s Day every year. Real festive atmosphere with arts and crafts fair, carousel, shooting gallery and excellent culinary offers are provided for the visitors.     3rd-4th August | Nostalgia Weekend At the nostalgia weekend, the centre of Hévíz will be filled with chamber ensembles, pianists recalling the atmosphere of old cafés, while couples are dancing the waltz all around. The visitors of the programmes can enjoy nostalgic melodies by candlelight at the terraces of coffee shops and restaurants.       10th-11th August | Fair of Handmade Goods This weekend, Hévíz is hosting a fair full with handmade crafts made by local craftsmen and women.         16th-20th August | 8th Wine Festival of Hévíz At the 8th wine festival of Hévíz, we await our guests with a cultural and culinary offer unique in the region. In addition to the wineries of Zala County, the representatives of the prominent Hungarian wine regions will also introduce themselves in the ‘wine street’ of Festetics Square. The lovers of wines can enjoy wonderful drinks under centuries-old sycamore trees in a pleasant atmosphere.   7th September | Harvest of Egregy On the first weekend of September, the traditional harvest festivities is organised in the district of Egregy. The event starts off with the traditional harvest parade and continues with the harvest. Taste delicious wines with traditional music playing in the background.         21st-22nd September | Fair of Handmade Goods We await you with a weekend filled with local handmade crafts in September too!           9th-10th November | St. Martin’s Day and Family Festival The popular goose race kicks off the St. Martin’s Day Family Festival every year. In addition to children’s programmes, handcraft workshops and folk playground await visitors. The new wine will be blessed in the Holy Spirit Church. It will be followed by a lamp-lit march from the church to the location of the festival. Hévíz Thermal Bath and St. Andrew's Hospital for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation has opened the movement analysis laboratory, which has been tested for months and has been used by its patients, to the general public. The Kinesio lab, as the local people like calling it, was financed with own resources amounted to HUF 190 million.  By means of the most advanced digital technology and computer-controlled equipment, trained physiotherapists help you to get an overall picture of the state of your bones, joints, and muscles, your body composition and gait. After analysing the results produced by the machine, patients will, of course, receive an important and clear medical report and, if necessary, a treatment plan, which can be supplemented by dietetic advice too.   Dr Attila Kvarda, the Director General of the Hospital for Rheumatology, stressed that the movement analysis laboratory is an important part of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy, as it helps to get a precise picture of the patient's pre- and post-treatment state. With this complex examination, the effectiveness of treatments in movement therapy can be measured objectively both in the short and the long term. In the long run, with the help of the test results, the specialists can draw up a more specialized treatment package for the patients with certain types of symptoms, therefore they can develop the most effective treatment processes. In addition to the patient’s feedback, with the aid of the clearly measurable computer analysis, the effects of treatment processes can be checked from time to time. The tests of the Kinesio lab can be used by patients referred to the hospital, but the tests are also available to anyone for a fee, and, of course, anyone who has been tested receives a medical report. The movement analysis is not only recommended for patients who have already received treatment It is recommended for younger people on a preventive basisand for athletes in order that they could get a precise picture of the state of their joints and muscles, which are loaded more than the average, and also of the condition of their body either to prevent sports injuries or to follow up existing injuries. tartalom: + 1 As the cold weather has set in, we feel the winter more and more at our doorstep. Although there is no snow, the frost greets the beams of the rising sun more often. November is the month when we have a little time left to victual for chilly days. As the weather and the seasons change, so vary the sellers’ goods at Hévíz Market. Besides the usual wares - handmade goods, cheese, bakery products, meat, autumn fruit and vegetables - there are also cakes, decorations, food and drinks displayed, which spread the advent and Christmas atmosphere. The sweet smell of roasted chestnut, pumpkin or hot mulled wine and chimney cake fill the air. According to traditions new wine can be drunk after Saint Martin’s Day, so the nectar of this year’s harvest can be found also in the offer of the vineries selling at the market.     It is a part of the advent preparation that we set up our surroundings with decorations and soft lights. Sweet smelling candles, lampions, advent wreaths, decorations with angels and bells can’t be missing from the stands of the stall-keepers – of course all the goods are made of the sellers’ own material and by hand. Gingerbread, chimney cake, “bejgli” (poppy seed or walnut roll)… - are the essential cakes of advent and the Christmas feeling.   Walking among the craftsmen, antique dealers, wood-carvers, potters, textile sellers you might also find the perfect Christmas gift. You can choose from the offer of more than 300 sellers even in wintertime. Even the cold weather cannot frighten away the producers and the costumers. The market is very lively and busy even on cold days. cím: Town Hévíz twinkles with Christmas lights!

lead: On friday with the assistance of Santa Claus the most beautiful shop window awards were handed out.

tartalom: + 1 On the occasion of Advent more and more Christmas lights go up also this year in Hévíz. In addition to the festive decorations of public places, service providers also await the visiting guests with more and more beautiful shop windows and decorated houses. The eye-catching Christmas lights, the decorations, which are sometimes traditional, sometimes  romantic and lovely  or in many cases made of using natural materials, the Christmas tree of the town and the Advent wreath together create the Christmas atmosphere of Hévíz.  This Advent, the Hévíz TDM Association also announced a Christmas decoration contest titled „A brilliant idea!”, for which anyone could enter, who felt that he/she offered customers a really gorgeus christmas window display.   The jury took a walk around the town in the afternoon of 4th December in order to rate the shop windows, and announced its rating points in several categories, such as elegance, harmonic appearence, style, use of natural materials, surprising, funny or fabulous ideas. The general public could vote for the service provider who would won the Audience Award based on the pictures shared by the participants on the website www.facebook.com/heviz.info. Awards were given out in a total of 4 categories.  I. Business premises, catering establishments: First prize: Hofbrau Vendéglő (Restaurant) (931/9 Nagyparkoló Square) Second prize: Magyar Csárda(Restaurant) (2 Tavirózsa Street) and Street Fashion clothes shop (2 Széchenyi Street)   II. Private accommodation: First prize: Guszti Villa (18 Széchenyi Street) Second prize: Fortuna Villa (1 Fortuna Street) and Kaktusz Villa (116 Attila Street)   III. Hotel category: First prize: Kolping Hotel **** Spa & Family Resort (120 Fő Street, Alsópáhok) Second prize: Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa***** (1 Lótuszvirág Street)  and NaturMed Hotel Carbona ****superior (1 Attila Street)   Audience Award winner based on the audience's  votes: Lotus Therme Hotel & Spa***** (1 Lótuszvirág Street)   The prizes were made by a local ceramic artist Barakonyi István, and we hope that they will be nice decorations of every winning shop window and building.   The jury chose the Hofbrau Restaurant as the absolute winner of the competition based on the total scores and the overall look. Therefore, besides the first prize the manager of the restaurant Czigány Hedvig  could also receive a challenge cup, for which there hopefully will be a lot of applicants next year.   We would recommend that our guests explore all the small beauties of the town, find the most atmospheric store, restaurant or accommodation, try the ice rink re-opened on 5th December after the bathings in the pleasantly warm water of the lake, visit the arts and crafts Advent market and warm up your heart by tasting a pleasantly scenting punch, tea or mulled wine under the twinkling festive lights.    We wish you a merry Christmas!

tartalom: + 1 To prepare for the hotel’s 15th birthday, we have undergone a spectacular renovation in December.  We await our guests with a totally renewed environment and a friendly hotel lobby interior, where we increased the number of seats, and with this we raised the standards of comfort, with new, friendly and practical furnishings, bright and pure shapes and colours.  The Guest Relation Manager has got a separated office in the hotel lobby in order to provide an even better service to our guests. The „Aperitif bar” at the entrance of the restaurant has also undergone a complete transformation, and under the name of VinoBar it awaits the guests with new, fresh green colours and furnishings, as well as Hungarian wine offer. The most noticeable changes can be seen in the swimming pool. All of the internal pools has got a completely new look, all the covers has renewed, the white walls has got new colours, so the experience bath as well as the indoor swimming pool diverse from one another in their atmosphere and colours, according to their function. The cover exchanges in addition to walking surfaces affected also the inside part of the pools.   All the bathrooms in the main building has been renovated. Similarly to the reconstruction of the apartment building, a completely new design applied also in the bathrooms, where the functionality play the major role. Following our guest’s expectations we reduced the number of rooms with bathtub, and with this we increased the number of rooms with comfortable shower cabin.
