Is it worth driving by car or buying a cheap flight ticket to visit this place where time goes slowly, and the beauty of nature surprises at every step.   A miraculous lake The lake in Hévíz is the biggest biologically active thermal lake in the world in which you can swim. Its surface reaches 4,4 ha and the water temperature oscillates between 24°C in winter and 36°C in summer. These conditions are very favorable for all year long baths as well as for the cultivation of tropical water lilies. They make the reservoir look like the one from a fairy tale. The cleanness of the lake’s water is an asset. 410 liters of hot water stream from the underground source every second, so it is completely replenished every three days. However, the medicinal properties of the lake are its biggest advantage. They were recognized already by the Romans in the 2 century A.D. One of the legends says that Mother Mary wrung / created a spring in Hévíz by the appealing prayer of a Christian nurse for the health of the Roman emperor, Flavius Theodosius. There is a natural peat at the lake’s bed and the water is rich in mineral elements like calcium, magnesium, sulphur.   Idyllic scenery Hévíz is a charming health resort, inhabited by 5 000 citizens, located only 6 km from the Balaton lake. It is also one of the most beautifully flowered town in Hungary and in May 2016 it was given an Innovation Award in the category of the Innovative Spa and Health Resort Destination by the European Spas Association. In addition to bathing in medicinal water, the basic elements of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy are mudpack and weight bath. As an additional treatment, drinking medicinal water from the drinking fountain is part of the package as well as various massages, movement therapies, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Ideally, the duration of the cure is two weeks. In the middle of the 19th century it was acknowledged that the medicinal effect of essential oils cannot be supplemented by anything else.   During sauna treatment in an aroma-therapy cabin the air of the cabin with varying temperatures is aromatised by using essential oils. Essential oils may have various relaxing or refreshing effects.     In the aroma-therapy cabin essential oils are inhaled or penetrate the skin and have their beneficial effects: prevent the spreading of bacteria and fungus; clear the respiratory passages; stimulate the blood supply of the skin and muscular tissue, thus alleviate pain and inflammation; beneficial for the digestive and secretory organs and they have a relaxing effect. Major reason for using essential oils is that they have a positive effect on our soul and emotions. Essential oils release emotional and mental blockages instantly.   Application forms of essential oils: Aromatic cabin/sauna: means entire body inhalation. Dry inhalation: inhalation directly or by dripping the essential oils on a tissue. Inhalation: carefully selected essential oils are dropped in hot water and they are inhaled together with the steam. In recent days one of the most significant milestones in the life of the town is that the lake has been declared Hungarikum, therefore the cup of Hévíz cannot be knocked off the table of national prestige anymore. Along with the lake, the traditional medicine of Hévíz, which has never been this successful, has also become Hungarikum. The healing effect of the bath culture of Hévíz is legendary throughout Europe, the curative power of the thermal water attracts masses of people who would like to be cured next to the western edge of Lake Balaton. Here, visitors spend more than a million nights annually. The Managing Director of Tourism Non-profit Ltd. of Hévíz, Horváth Orsolya said that the timing of the Therapy's branding was a special pleasure for the town, as it was 220 years ago this year that the first bathhouse had been built on the lake. In the course of these two centuries the Traditional Hévíz Therapy has simply become a brand. The qualification certificates related to the Therapy were handed over by the Mayor of Hévíz, Papp Gábor and the Managing Director of the Tourism Ltd., Horváth Orsolya. In addition to bathing in medicinal water, the basic element of the Therapy are mud bath and weight bath. As additional treatment, the consumption of the medicinal water from a drinking-fountain is also a part of the healing process, as well as massages, movement therapies, and physio- and hydro therapies too. The duration of the therapy is two weeks in a standard case. Professionals, specialised in this area, has worked on the development of the standardised Therapy, the fruit of their work is the establishment of a unique healing system. In the qualification of the institutes providing the cure prominent doctors has acted, such as the Medical Director of Spa Hévíz and Saint Andrew's Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Dr. Mándó Zsuzsanna, the Sports Doctor and Rheumatologist of NaturMed Hotel Carbona**** superior, Dr. Major Zoltán and the Chief Physician of the Hotel Európa fit****superior, Dr. Moll Veronika, who happens to be the inventor of weight bath, Dr. Moll Károly's daughter. The Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market is the institution that is responsible for trademark protection in the European Union. Hévíz has submitted the logo of the Therapy here, and in addition the town has a good chance to receive positive judgement, because there is currently no competing logo in the market. The final decision is expected by October. The practitioners of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy will be entitled to use the official logo of the therapy, every institution, which has the sufficient professional, therapeutic background and medical infrastructure (pool with medicinal water, weight bath, facilities for mud packing, etc.), will be able to do so. tartalom: + 1 On 29th July 2015, the European Commission signed the grant contract, in the framework of which a 15 months' health tourism development was launched. The international project „OFF TO SPAS” is implemented in the cooperation of 7 partners of 4 countries. Hungary is represented by Pannon University (project coordinator), Tourism Non-profit Ltd. of Hévíz and the Municipality of County Zala, further members of the consortium are: AGE Platform Europe AISBL, Consiliul Judetean Covasna, Asociatia Pentru Dezvoltarea Turismului in Judetul Covasna and Travel Specialist Group Sweden AB. The aim of the project is to create a Central European transnational balneological tourism product for the older (senior) age group that extends the market of medicinal and thermal tourism to those sending areas where the demand for medicinal and wellness tourism related to natural waters can be increased.  Objectives of the project: to create a tourism product network that takes into account the special needs of the older age group, to improve the number and quality of the cooperation between the members of the tourism value chain and the organisations/associations of the elderly, to increase the turnover of low or middle season in terms of tourism in order to improve the effectiveness and competitiveness of tourism SMEs, to promote tourism as the strategy of active and healthy aging, to increase the professionalism of the tourism service providers in order to ensure the sustainability and self-development of the project. For the sake of all these, the following main activities will be implemented by the partners: Conducting a research in support of the health tourism development: market study concerning the elderly, surveys, comparative analyses, researches testing the market of the elderly and balneological issues, involving the membership of AGE Platform as well as the customers of the travel agency Travel Specialist Group Sweden AB, Creating a balneological tourism product network, - through the example of Hévíz and Covasna - which offers location- and market-specific medical and health assistance programs for the older age group,   Discussion forums, workshops related to the project for the purpose of network building and partnerships, and exchanging good practices,  Extensive marketing communication, which addresses decision makers and potential travellers, and conforms to the special needs of target groups and to tourism trends. The first step of the project ending in September 2016 is the two days' meeting starting today in Hévíz, during which the participating partners coordinate the main tasks and actions.  The application was submitted in December 2014 by the partners for the European Commission's invitation to tender with the identification number „COS-TFLOWS-2014-3-15”. Due to the application prepared on high professional standards, the European Commission considered the project eligible for funding with the originally requested budget – with EUR 208,565 EU funds and EUR 69,533 deductibles. At the European Union level, a total of 10 application won support in the calling for tender.

Caldarium This is one of the facilities used in Roman baths, which means hot watery bathroom. The caldarium, usually tiled or covered with marble, in which people usually stay for 30 to 40 minutes, poses less burden on human organism than a sauna due to the lower temperatures (40-50 °C) and the humidity of the air (70-100%).   Chinese massage The Chinese massage may be considered as a kind of acupuncture combined with stretching. The massage may consist of various parts. It may refer to the spine massage and the Chinese head massage aiming at the head and neck. During the massage the acupuncture points are treated as well. The base of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy is the medicinal water, which, due to its rich mineral content, is particularly effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.  During the Traditional Hévíz Therapy, the original, complex cure of Hévíz is carried out in order that the patients, according to their individual condition, can receive the most effective cure. So far, 9 service providers of Hévíz, who have the technical background for providing the traditional healing methods, have earned the qualification certification for offering the traditional therapy. The other innovation, which is unique nationally and also worth for international attention, is the unique tender developed for private accommodation providers to improve the quality of private accommodation. As a first step the medical status check states the complaints of the guest and general health status of patient is checked. Based on the results of the above a physician designs the complex physiotherapy program. A duration of minimum 2 weeks is recommended when using complex Hévíz treatments. In the middle ages the significance of massage fell into background due to the influence of the Church, which was against corporality. Nowadays massage has been rediscovered through scientific research. The word massage comes from the Greek „massein” word, which means kneading. Swedish massage, which is the most frequently applied massage technique was developed and pioneered by Per Henrik Ling. Eastern healing has appreciated the beneficial impact of massage for a very long time. Nowadays the western medicinal science is aware that massaging is not only a physical process, but it has also got an important physiological and mental impact.   Impacts During the treatment blood circulation and lymphoid circulation are stimulated, pulse rate per minute and blood pressure is changed; metabolism, body temperature and breathing also change, while excretion is intensified and as a result detoxification is increased, furthermore it also has an impact on the nervous system.
