From March, with the regular Merida and Neuzer brands new Alpina bicycles are introduced in our office. The new bikes are multi-geared which will definitely make cycling much easier for our guests! The normal bikes and the e-bikes can be rented out for 2 hours or 24 hours as usual. With the activation of your Hévíz Card+ tourist card, you can make your 2-hour-rental a 3-hour, and your 24-hour-rental a 28-hour rent. Furthermore, with every rental we provide our guests with info-materials as well as cycling maps. Temperature of the bathing premises is between 37 to 39 °C. Tepidarium is a facility, which has a nice tender impact on the blood circulation. It is considered as a regenerating bath between cold and hot baths. Romans in the ancient times used Tepidarium as a preparatory room for steam bathing. You can feel a nice sensation in the premises with medium humidity. Tepidarium stimulates and strengthens the immune system without straining the cardiovascular system. During the Tepidarium treatment stress is released and the body is regenerated. Tepidarium has also got a preventative and healing function.  Tepidarium is also suitable for patients, who are not advised to use sauna. It is mainly used for improving stamina, but it’s also suitable for the development of muscles and for stress-releasing purposes. Aqua aerobic is usually a group exercise, where a trainer presents the movements, many times with background music. The exercises practiced in the water are identical to the exercises practiced on land, but the body is lighter in the water due to the raising force. Therefore aqua aerobic is recommended also for those, who are not advised to do exercises on land. As these exercises do not strain the joints due to the resistance of the water, aqua aerobic is also suitable for strengthening the muscles.     It has a positive impact on the metabolism, fat burning can be increased and it also stimulates the heart and cardiovascular system. Furthermore water is a great body-shaping substance. Anyone can practice aqua aerobics, independently from age, sex or health condition. It is even recommended during pregnancy or for the elder generations.    Underwater therapeutic exercise shall also be mentioned. The aim of this exercise is identical to the aim of therapeutic exercise, but it’s a lot gentler as the movements under water relieve the strain from the joints due to the buoyant force of the water. It is a natural, mixed type mud containing 80 % non-organic and 20% organic substances. Due to its mineral substance content, high heat storage ability and other physical characteristics it is excellent for the after treatment of rheumatic, degenerative locomotor diseases, dermatological diseases, certain gynaecological diseases and injuries. Due to its special content, it has an excellent alleviative impact. Prior to any mud pack treatment patients shall consult with a physician. During mud pack treatment mud with a temperature of approximately 38 to 42 °C is used on the entire body, on certain parts of the body or in mud buckets. Treatment duration is usually about 20 minutes every day or every second day. tartalom: + 1 It  was developed by Senior Dr. Károly Moll at the beginning of the 1950s. Weight bath is an underwater treatment, which takes place in a special pool, with specialist support. The aim of the treatment is to displace the vertebras, thus stretching the back bone and enabling the restoring of the original, healthy condition of the vertebral disks. Weight bath is completely painless, as the upthrust of the water relaxes the body and the weights stretch the spine in a very gentle way. Weights used during weight bath can be suspended in 3 ways: on one point (only on the neck) on two points (with armpit support) on three points (with neck and armpit support) The weights are placed on the waist and/or on the ankles, by usually applying weights of 2-3-5 kg. At one time a maximum of 20 kg weights are allowed. tartalom: + 1 It is an ancient massage based on Far-eastern traditions. Thai massage is a dry massage, no oils or lotions are used during the treatment; clients wear comfortable light clothes. This form of bodywork is usually performed on the floor or on a mattress. During the massage the acupuncture points are stimulated by using a point pressurizing technique. In Thai massage the techniques of acupressure are joined with stretching, dislocating and snapping elements. Thai masseurs use their hands, elbows, knees and feet during the treatment. An original Thai massage takes about an hour to one and half hours. As it is longer than a traditional massage, the impact of the massage lasts also longer. After the massage client is both physically and mentally rejuvenated, the blood circulation is stimulated and the energies of the body are also activated.  Thai massage does not move the muscles, but by the stimulation of the acupuncture points equalizes the body parts. Regular application of Thai massage has a beneficial impact on the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, digestive and locomotor (joint and spine problems, back and lower back aches) diseases and provides client with a sense of physical well-being. Each day of the Easter Festival the visitors awaitwith fairs, playhouses and traditional food, of course.         30 April -1 May | Hévíz at the Turn of the Century The event, which was started in 2011, evokes the ‘golden years’ of Hévíz, a period that lasted from the 1860s to the 1930s. The town tries to recall the atmosphere of the palmy days of peace in every possible way during the event: organ-grinders wearing tails and top hat play music in the streets, ladies dressed in hoop skirt and hat walk in the flowering park leading to the thermal lake. The event will be opened by a costume parade accompanied with live music and dance, in the course of which the professions and trades of the period will be presented.   9-10 May | 5th Running Festival of Hévíz The runners who manage to run 4-14-21 km will not only get to experience a well-organised event but they also will be gifted T-Shirts, medals and an unforgettable experience! The half marathon can be done individually or in a relay.         11 May | Giro d'Italia in Hévíz One of the world's most famous bicycle races comes to Hungary! As part of the three-day-event, the race goes through Hévíz on 11 May. The race will be also accompanied by many programs organised in the city of Hévíz!           16 May | Flavius Day In Egregy (a district of Hévíz) next to the remains of the Roman villa, in a beautiful landscaped area, we recall the traditions of Roman times: gladiator fights, toga parades, ancient oracles, the fashion and hairstyle, as well as ancient board games. You can have a taste from the dishes and drinks of the period.       30 May - 1 June | Pentecostal Merriment and Fair During the four-day Pentecostal celebrations, we await the visitors of Hévíz with joyful programmes and activities. The fun park is also a remarkable venue to organise birthday parties, dates or team-building days! The Bobo Fun Park has opened its gates on 14 June 2021. The Fun Park can be found in Alsópáhok, next to Hotel Kolping. If you are looking for some active leisure time or your children need some place to play... this place has everything in the 3000 m2 big hall! The fun park is located in an indoor facility which makes it perfect to visit during rainy days as well. The park is open for everyone over 6 years old.     THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE ENTERING You can buy two kinds of tickets: one from 10 am to 2 pm and another from 3 pm to 7 pm. Tickets are available for purchase online and at the venue as well. You can arrive anytime but you have to leave the park at 2 pm and 7 pm. Between 2 pm and 3 pm and after 7 pm the crew of the park cleans up and also sanitizes the venue so children could play in a nice and tidy environment. At the moment the park can only be visited with immunity/vaccination cards over 18 years old.     THINGS YOU SHOULD LEAVE AT HOME AND THING YOU WILL NEED It is strictly forbidden to bring in food or drinks with you so the park could remain as clean as possible. You can have some refreshments and snacks at the café of the fun park. When you first enter the park, you have to purchase a pair of grip socks (non-slip socks). You can keep these socks and bring them with you next time. If you want to try out the climbing walls as well, you should bring a pair of indoor shoes which have clean and light-coloured soles. Before entering you have to fill in a declaration of liability form. Under 10 years old, children can enter only with an adult, between 10-18 they should have a statement of consent from their parents. Come to the Bobo Fun Park and enjoy yourself!

tartalom: + 1 The Hungarian spa town of Hévíz is famous for its sulphurous thermal lake and its unconventional therapies. The devil himself once worked the fields around here, but it was such hard going that in a fit of rage, old Harry flung down his plow so hard that it shot deep into the earth – or so the ancient Hungarian legend goes. Warm water henceforth flowed from a spring on that spot and has fed the thermal lake ever since. Resort entrance The reality on this early fall morning in Hévíz is less dramatic:14 degrees Celsius and a light drizzle. After a cool night,a white mist hangs over the deep-blue lake and the bathhouse on stilts at its center with its pretty wooden spires. It looks straight out of a Disney film, but smells like a sulfur mine.   Author Mathias Becker in the thermal lake I wait on the shore, shivering in my shorts. I’m supposed to take a dip in the lake, but not before an attendant has arrived– for safety’s sake. The fumes apparently make some people feel woozy in the water. I stick my big toe in to test it – lukewarm. When my potential life saver comes into sight soon after, I slide into the lake like a fish eager to return to its element. Sedately, I swim by water lilies and on into the fairy-tale landscape. Somewhere beneath me lies the lake’s geological source: Every second, 410 liters of mineral-rich water, heated naturally to a very pleasant temperature by the earth, flow from a crack inthe rock 38 meters down. That’s why the water temperature can be as high as 38° C in summer and only go down to 25° C in  winter. Regular bathing in the lake is said to ease rheumatic complaints and back pain; drinking the water in healing doses reputedly aids digestive disorders. The mists have now evaporated and the first bathers of the day are stepping into the lake. Nearly all have a brightly colored foam pool noodle around their hips. It looks silly but helps keep them afloat – a safety precaution. You’re not supposed to stay in the water for more than half an hour anyway, and it’s completely off limits for anyone with cardiovascular problems. I swim slowly back, then make myself comfortable on one of the sunbeds around the inner pool. The lake has made me drowsy. Tropical waterlilies With a surface area of over four hectares, this thermal lake is the largest in the world suitable for bathing. There is one in New Zealand of a similar size, but at a constant temperature of 55 to 60° C, it is better suited to steaming vegetables than bathing. The Hévíz lake resort, on the other hand, is like a warm bathtub even in frosty weather, making the small town on the western shore of Lake Balaton Hungary’s most popular place of pilgrimage for those with back and joint complaints, even despite its competition within Hungary. From the famous Turkish baths in Budapest to the cave baths of Miskolc (where you have to swim through tenebrous tunnels) and the thermal baths in Hajdúszoboszló (one of Europe’s largest), more than 1300 thermal springs make the country on the Pannonian Plaina veritable healing hotspot. Many a source was only discovered while drilling for oil, but the warm waters of Hévíz were already popular with the ancient Romans. Bathing culture ended soon after the fall of Rome and was only revived in the late 18th century. First came the nobles and the bourgeoisie; then, in the Communist era, it was the turn of the workers. Allegedly, it was the party big wigs who involuntarily stopped the fun: Duringone of their sauna parties, the wooden bathhouse caughtfire and burned down. Rebuilt in 1989, the bathhouse reopened when Communism ended. The old political system disappeared, but Hévíz remained and blossomed. The town recorded over a million overnight stays in 2017, around 40 percent from Hungary, the rest from across Europe. A wellness industry with massage and beauty salons has long become established in and around the resort. Hotels have installed spas, and some flood their pools with the thermal water. To get a sense of the unbroken enthusiasm for Hévíz, I booked in for some of the traditional Hévíz treatments. First, the mud bath. I climb down steps into a steel basin the size of a garden pool that’s anchored in the lake. Just a few steps, and already the heavy mud, making a gloopy, bubblysound at every step, is up to my thighs – and up to my bellybutton when I sit down. A woman beside me reaches for the grainy, strong-smelling mass and gleefully smears it onto her face and shoulders. I bravely follow her lead. That evening, I notice that my skin feels unusually soft and I sleep better that night than I have for a very long time. Awakening the next morning, I can’t wait to get moving and am ravenously hungry. After breakfast, I have a massage appointment in the wellness and therapy area. Stefania Bajer, atherapeutic and sports masseur sporting a severe undercut, greets me with a firm handshake. In just 20 minutes, she has kneaded my muscles so expertly that I still feel the beneficial effects of it days later. I ask her whether my back is in good shape. I’m 40, I jog now and again, but spend most of my time in front of the computer. I haven’t had any pain – so far. “You need to exercise more,” says Bayer, “much more!” Mud wrestler: author Mathias Becker is clearly enjoying his bath Later on, I get to see where a lack of exercise can lead at the bath house: to the underwater “stretching pool,” where patients with back problems are suspended in the water, their arms or neck fastened into a kind of harness so that they cannot move. At the same time, weights attached to their hips pull their vertebraeminimally apart, relieving the discs between them. Developed in 1953 by Károly Moll, a local physician, this therapyis still used successfully on patients with disc problems. As I have no trouble with my spinal discs, I am allowed into thewater with very little ballast for a kind of trial therapy, so to speak. My arms rest on a kind of underwater gymnastics bar and I am drawn down by two three-kilo steel weights attached toa belt. My feet make no contact. “Harascho?” In Russian, Bajerasks the young man next to me whether he’s all right – but he doesn’t look it. My neighbor is wearing the kind of neck brace people wear after a rear-impact collision, and there are two metal bars on top of it, keeping his head above water. “Harascho …,”he breathes softly. As we leave the pool 20 minutes later, Anton Marukhin tells me that he’s a 28-year-old advertising and music video producer living near Moscow, and that he suffers with back pain. “I sit a lot, maybe that’s why,” he says. The doctors in Russia couldn’t help him so his parents sent him to Hévíz. The town’s healing reputation clearly extends far beyond the borders of Hungary. The underwater stretching bath is said to ease back problems. One of the men aiming to help pain patients like Marukhinis Dr. Gábor Domokos, the rheumatology and physiotherapy consultant in charge of wellness and therapy at the resort. He wears white sneakers with his white coat and is 68 but looks much younger. That’s not from bathing in the lake, he says (he cycles a lot and hikes in the hills around Lake Balaton), adding that too much significance should not be read into the lake water alone because no precise physiological explanation has been found for how the minerals work. “But we do know that many people who come to us with chronic pain feel better after the treatment.” The secret probably lies in the package: exercise in the warm water, possibly also the water’s composition,and then the peace, the long woodland walks – recently coined as “forest bathing” – physiotherapy, and a good, healthy diet. And also the sleep, I think to myself. The mud weighs heavyon my body. Not a minute later and I have dozed off once again. Several days later, once I’ve returned home, I open my case and a sulfurous cloud rises to meet me. A most stimulating odor. I pullon my running shoes and head out the door. I’ve had enough sulfur to last me awhile. tartalom: + 1 The barristers have returned to the Great Parking Place but also the parking lot by the Water Tower got new barristers. In the previously mentioned parking lots the way of parking and paying your parking tickets have changed, while at the other parking places in the city you can pay by the traditional way.   The specialty of the new, improved parking lots is that you can park without a parking ticket and the system is also able to record your license plate. The new system makes parking much easier since you do not need to worry about purchasing your tickets, you can just simply drive in and pay after you finished with parking. It is important to notice though that once you have driven in, you still have 15 minutes to leave the parking lots without paying.   Parking without parking tickets? Even though you don't need to place a parking ticket to your windshield, you still need to pay for your parking, but only when you are actually about to finish parking. Several terminals are placed out the parking lots where you can pay (in the Great Parking Place 3 while at the Water Tower only 1 terminal is available so far). At the terminals, you simply just need to type in your license plate number and also the number of the parking place where you parked you car (the parking place numbers are visible on the surface of the concrete e.g. P115 etc.). You can pay by cash or by credit card as well. After paying, you have 10 minutes to leave the parking lot.   Make it even more simpler To make parking even more easy, a mobile app was also create which is available for iOS and for Android systems as well. The therapy consists of three basic and four complementary treatments using the healing properties of sulphurous magnesium carbonate water. Experts have recognized that a significant part of the hydro, movement, physio- and electrotherapies of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy is suitable for the treatment of certain problems of the Post-Covid syndrome. In addition, the mineral content of Lake Hévíz, the evaporating water and the climatic effect of the 60-hectare Protective Forest surrounding the lake are also very effective in achieving the healing effect. The Post-Covid Care programme will work on the model of the already proven Traditional Hévíz Therapy. tartalom: + 1 From 3 July 2021, no immunity cards or vaccination papers are required upon entering the Lake. You can book accommodations at any hotels or private accommodations without any limits. Wellness services are opening again, museums, adventure parks, restaurants can be visited by anyone. Masks aren't compulsory anymore either, but please be patient with anyone who still requires you to wear a mask for safety measures. At most places, you will still need to sanitize your hands and keep your distance while queueing. The cancellation of the restrictions applies for not only Hungarian residents but to everyone coming from the Schengen borders meaning Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, Serbia. Regarding air travel, some safety measures are expected to remain. In the case of Ukraine, the previously accepted measures will stay. From 1 July, the EU green card will be accepted as well which enables EU residents to travel within the EU without any restrictions. Hévíz is full with joy to see travellers coming to the city once more after such a long time. Enjoy the lake and the town, we are happy to see you again!
