tartalom: + 1 The fact that the spa currently belongs to the whole families, you can see in the Hungarian spa town Hévíz. The place with the largest thermal lake in the world has much to offer to everyone, including families with children. Come and explore with us. Water paradise for children Swimming with rubber rings in thermal lake, which temperature is reaching 38 °C in the summer, definitely won’t insult anyone and your older children are not going to complain about cold water. What to do in case your sunshine gets bored over swimming in lake? There is a special children pool for the smallest (under 12 years) opened right next to the lake in the summer. Kids can not only enjoy the water to the fullest, but there are also special animators programs offered and they can try water gymnastics, test their swimming ability or enjoy games with creative water crafts. Most hotels has own pool, that promise a great amount of fun. If you have chosen to live in a hotel without pool, in the apartment or in private, do not worry, for small fee you are welcomed to visit any pool anytime in a day. Children playgrounds for child of any age Are your children who can´t give up the experiences of a playground during a day? Hévíz has a very positive attitude towards the smallest and therefore has focused on renovation of playgrounds in the city over couple of last years. Playing fields are diverse and suitable for all age groups. If the adults are also like to play, they can try the street workout park. Hurray for bike or try Segway In case you have not decided to bring your own bikes to your holiday and your little sportsman demands to go cycling, do not panic. Hévíz has a high level service, therefore you can lend bikes for the whole family there. System of cycle tracks is well branched and would offer great experience to you as well as to your children. If any of you is too tired to bike, you may try Segway instead. Children older eight years are allowed to drive alone, otherwise for younger ones can be carried by the adults in a little trailer after the Segway. Family trips for history, animals or adventure You don’t need to be a professional athlete to handle walks around the city and in the surroundings. Touristic symbols and sign-posts will help you in the orientation.  There is a great amount of ruins in Hévíz surroundings for example Tátice, Szigliget or Sümeg, where you can personally find out and try the medieval history. Treasure of the area is chateau Festetics in town called Keszthely. A museum in the chateau has permanent hunting exposition, there is also the carriage museum or Animal Park. In the Keszthely city centre is puppet museum, historical panopticum as well as snail Parliament. Next to the road on the way to Keszthely is an Adventure Park, where kids are invited to enjoy several games.

tartalom: + 1 What else could be the main message to everyone this year: LIVE ACTIVELY! STAY FIT! STAY HEALTHY! And the perfect location is Hévíz, where health, health preservation, recreation, and the healing and energies provided by nature have been a part of everyday life for hundreds of years. Most of the shops, restaurants and service providers have already been back to business, the majority of the accommodation establishments have already been open, and some accommodation facilities will welcome guests from the second half of June. Most of the hotels and guesthouses have cosy gardens, parks, outdoor and indoor pools, wellness, and beauty services to make your stay unforgettable. Today, there is nothing to prevent you from taking a perfect summer vacation in the usual quality in Hévíz.
SWIMMING AMONG WATER-LILIES IN THE WORLD'S LARGEST HOT WATER LAKE If you are in Hévíz, you must see Lake Hévíz. And, if it is Lake Hévíz, you can experience the following: bathing, crystal clear hot medicinal water, black mud, waterlilies, small fish, water birds. The rustle of bald cypresses, fresh air and the experience of bathing and relaxing in the park on any day of the year. Surrounded by prestigious, historic buildings, Lake Hévíz is a unique and enticing experience again and again for anyone who has, even once, found pleasure in swimming in 32°C water on a beautiful early-autumn day. In summer, all ages can be found on the beach from 0 to 110 years old. Although the lake is not a water park with giant slides that is why it is different. It is a small wonder of nature that cannot be imitated and compared to other baths. PARKS, WOODS, PROMENADES, GREEN! GREEN! GREEN! EVERYWHERE! Cycle, walk, hike, move freely! In the protective forests surrounding the lake, on the banks of the Hévíz stream or even on the gently sloping hiking trails of the Keszthely Hills, there are many opportunities to explore the area in the fresh air, listening to the songs of birds. Whether you are planning a light stroll or a more serious hike, you will be able to choose from different routes. The Tourinform Office in Hévíz helps the lovers of nature with free hiking and cycling maps, as well as renting bicycles and Nordic walking poles. Besides, thanks to Bakonyerdő (the company looking after the woods), well-maintained routes, rest areas, educational trails, and lookout towers await families in the Keszthely Hills. The latter ones, by the way, offer a fantastic view of Lake Balaton. MEDIEVAL CASTLE RUINS FROM SMALL ONES TO LARGER ONES OFFERING A FULL-DAY EXPERIENCE If you have already been told about hills, mountains, forests, and great views… starting from Hévíz, many ruins of castles can be discovered during a day trip. The nearest is the ruins of Rezi Castle, located only 10 km away, which is an easy walk from Hévíz. A little further away, on Tátika Hill, there are also the remains of a castle in the middle of the forest. If you set off in the direction of Lake Balaton, you will reach Szigliget in 30 minutes, where not only the ruins of a castle but a complex, interactive medieval knight's castle offer a great program for families. What is more, the castle has been renovated in recent months, so it will reopen on 20th June. You can also take a day trip to Sümeg or Nagyvázsony or you can even climb the ruins of Csobánc Castle. If you are looking for the nearest small castle ruin, you will find it on the Main Square (Fő tér) in Keszthely, in the Castle Garden next to the Church of Our Lady of Hungary. ACTIVE ADVENTURES FOR ADRENALINE ADDICTS If you look for active experiences outdoors, and besides that, come to Hévíz with children, you do not have to go far for a little adventure. Children and adults can test their courage on the ropes course in the Tavirózsa Adventure Park located on the confines of Hévíz. Right next to it, the enthusiasts of racing can compete on a go-kart track. The Dino and Adventure Park in Rezi offers moments of forgetfulness for families with small children and dinosaur fans, while older kids can spend a fun day in the Zobori Adventure Park in Zalaszabar. Those who are over 16 can get black-and-blue marks and memories for life in a paintball fight in Gyenesdiás, or learn to water-ski on the beach of Vonyarcvashegy. Those who aim high can do so by a hot-air balloon, a gyrocopter, a microlighter or can enjoy a pleasure flight, while the lovers of the depth can creep and crawl with a tour guide in the caves of the Keszthely Hills. BEFORE OR AFTER THE ADVENTURES YOU HAVE TO EAT SOMETHING DELICIOUS AND FILLING Whether you like international cuisine or traditional Hungarian dishes, high-level gastronomy or the basic flavours of street food, you can choose from more than 50 restaurants in Hévíz, all of which are open throughout the year. The offer is variegated by the Hévíz and Gyenesdiás Farmers' Markets, where three values - local, artisan, and healthy - are added into each delicious product with all heart and soul. And if you want to experience a breezy wine tasting, the row of taverns in Egregy is an unmissable place where the fine wines of County Zala are combined with the view of the Zala landscape. WHAT WE DO NOT WRITE ABOUT IN THIS ARTICLE Roman ruins, medieval churches, the stupa, water mill. Beaches, guided programs, guided sightseeing tours, boat trips, bird banding, Csillagvár (Star castle), museums in Keszthely, the mansion, model railway exhibition. Sports competitions, night tours, camps for children. Places to visit in the Balaton Uplands National Park, Uncle Matula's hut, the unique flora and fauna of Kis-Balaton (Little Balaton), basalt columns. There are so many experiences that await you in all seasons whether you come alone, with your partner or family. Programs not only in nice weather during the summer holiday!  “I like to come to Hévíz because I’ve felt, even the first time, that life in Hévíz is slower but not boring. The streets are not crowded but they are by no means extinct. People are happier, more relaxed, there is time for everything and there are a lot of opportunities, while everything is near at hand that I need in today’s business atmosphere. Quality services, lots of green, fresh air, silence. Here, I only pick up the phone when I want to.” B. Kristóf (Budapest, 2019) [galeria]

lead: The project Be Ready (UrBan hEat islands REsilience, prepAreDness and mitigation strategy) addresses the climate change capacities in the Danube Region taking into account ecosystem-based approaches. The common challenge to be tackled is urban heat islands (UHI). The recent unprecedented heat waves demonstrate the acute need to strengthen the preparedness and adaptive capacity of the society to cope with impacts of climate change and foster resilience at city level.
tartalom: + 1 Be Ready aims to:          - provide local and regional authorities with research, assessment and operational instruments to better understand UHI, its drivers, and effects;          - co-create, test and validate jointly developed solutions to mitigate the UHI effects in cities;          - support partner cities to develop and adopt action plans for increased resilience to UHI effects with specific actions to promote green, blue, or white measures. The novel approach to be taken by the project – “green acupuncture” - will allow the partners, both cities and knowledge partners, to take targeted, small but powerful, context-based measures to deal with UHI in critical urban areas. City pilots will test solutions in three areas: “green acupuncture” (vegetation-based interventions); “white acupuncture” (based on innovative surfaces and materials); and “blue acupuncture” (novel uses of water resources). The project main outputs include jointly developed and implemented methodologies and toolkits for UHI risk assessment, data analysis and modelling at city level; co-designed solutions for tackling UHI, tested and peer reviewed in urban environment by 12 pilot cities; a common strategy for improving the climate change preparedness and resilience aimed at local and regional authorities in the Danube region; action plans and transformative strategic outlooks for the participating partners; policy recommendations; a virtual training program with SPOCs; awareness campaigns in 12 countries over the 30-month period. Key for Be Ready is the ClimateSandbox approach that will support participating cities to define and deploy climate-oriented innovations – both on the technological and service side (i.e. content) and on the policy, administrative and spatial planning side (i.e. enabling conditions), through the innovative digital Climate Sandbox Technological and Societal Readiness Tool. The project's ambition is to showcase to decision-makers and other stakeholders across Europe the benefits of adopting solutions in which the environment, simplicity, and aesthetics play a key role as value-generating agents as well as community engagement drivers, throughout the co-design process, acting both at levels of solution definition, development, and deployment. tartalom: + 1 Hévíz, the city of the world-famous thermal lake, is full of life and cultural events even in summer. The charm of the city lies not only in the water, but also in the variety of special events that spice up the summer season. Music is for everyone A series of music programs will start on May 30 and will last until September. Twice a week, free concerts are organized at Festetics Square and at the Music Pavilion on Dr. Schulhof Vilmos Promenade. Local and Hévíz-related artists will perform, creating a pleasant atmosphere for lovers of music and bathing. Sports events and leisure programs The city's surroundings offer excellent opportunities for sports and leisure activities. It will be no different on May 26, as the 6th Intersport Hévíz Running Festival will be held. Adults and children alike can test their endurance and compare their performance. Good mood and muscle fever are guaranteed! If you don't want to compete, you can comfortably bike or hike on the designated routes in the area. You can discover it on your own or on guided tours. The Balaton brinakörút is also easily accessible from Hévíz. Even for the little ones On June 1, the garden of the Egregyi Museum will be filled with children's excitement on the occasion of the city's Children's Day. A castle in the air, a treasure map, face painting, handicrafts, bird ringing, a drawing competition and fairy-tale films are waiting for the little ones and the slightly older ones all afternoon. Wine for beer or beer for wine...? No one has to choose peace of mind, as you can find festivals related to both drinks this summer on the pedestrian street. July 11-14. beer will be served first. Czíki, Czech or HB, by the glass or by the pint, filtered or unfiltered - however you like it, you're sure to find a drink to your taste. There will be no shortage of musical programs either, there are concerts every day. DR BRS, Tamás Sipos F., Viktor Király, Kefir, Csilla Auth will play for us, but we will also have DJ SOMX, Fáni Németh and his band, as well as the Zalaapát Harmonika Orchestra. For those who prefer wine, we recommend the wine and gastro festival in August, when for 5 days (August 16-20) wine plays the main role. In addition to the craft stalls, children's programs will keep the little ones busy. Here on stage will be Dér Heni, the Beatles Memorial Orchestra, Unisex, Andra Szulák, Szalonna and his Band, the Bácska Tambura Orchestra, the Happy Dixieland Band, and István Bősárkányi Társulat's adaptation of The King. Indian Summer August doesn't have to be the end of the summer, as we still have programs for September. The aforementioned musical evenings last until the end of the snow. In the middle of the month a moonlight bathing program is waiting for those who want to bathe at night. At the end of September, the now traditional Waterlily Folkfest folk dance and folk music program is also organized. The summer events and programs of Hévíz thus offer experiences and relaxation for all ages. The city's vibrant life and cultural diversity are guaranteed to make summer vacations memorable for all who visit. During the four days of the festival, you can meet blue-painted porters, handmade dolls, basket sellers, textile sellers, jewelry makers, ceramicists, but you may also buy goat cheese, smoked goods, homemade syrup, and handmade mustard. In addition to the vendors, there will be wine and food stalls waiting for the guests. This year we are preparing 30 types of "lángos", vegetable pies, vegan offerings, but of course also traditional wine-biscuits. In fact, fish soup is also included in the food offer, but only for 20 August. Among the domestic wineries, the following cellars will be presenting: Paulus Borház, Cseri Winery, Balla Géza Winery, Kányavári Winery, Mokos Winery, Prosecco, -Balatonfelvidék -Fischer Winery, Tokaj wine region- Majoros Estate, Decsics Winery, Strázsai Winery, Rádi Winery, Papp és Fiai Winery , Bezerics Winery And of course, the title holder of this year's Wine of Hévíz is the CÉZÁR Winery, where you can also taste the wine of 2022. On Thursday the Virgonckodók team will start the program to the delight of our youngest guests. On that day, wooden toys and a basket swing are waiting for children. And of course we won't leave them without music, in the afternoon they can party at the Brumi Bandi Band concert at the Tourinform Office. The day doesn't end with children's programs. The Forest next to Deák Square will be the venue for the Amargant Theater Concert three times in the afternoon. The special program as part of the Forest Mystery program series introduces visitors to the mysterious world of the forest surrounding the lake. The music bonanza starts on the stage from 18:00, where you can first hear the party mix of DJ Belo, then the acoustic-electronic performance of Levente Fegyverneki leads the mood to DJ Voksán Virág's evening set. During the day on Friday the field belongs to the children again, this time the team of Virgonckodók brings two escape rooms to the "green" on Dr. Moll Károly tér. It is worth registering in advance, because the appointments fill up quickly. Children looking for a creative activity will not be left without a program either, as the Magic Sounds playhouse at the Tourinform office will keep them busy. The game is accompanied by music, from 18:00 the Cséplő-Poór Jazzy Duo entertains the audience with cheerful tunes. At the same time, the evening program begins on the stage, a Caribbean dance hall called Salsa Días Brillantes begins. After the dance, we can listen to a show by Boglárka Laczák and Szabolcs Bognár interspersed with musical and operetta melodies. In the evening, we can welcome the weekend with a wild concert by Odett, a singer from Zala. On Saturday a bubble arcade and a wooden toy park await children who want to play already in the early afternoon. This time, there is also a stage show for the little ones, as the Harisnáy Pipik invite them on a magical journey around the world. Afterwards, Jenő Őri & Iván Roman entertain the audience with violin and piano recitals. If it's a wine program, then MASZK's musical theater about wine fits into the evening stylistically. The main event of the evening will be the concert of the Muzsikás Együttes. On Sunday we can rest during the day for the past three days, and then in the evening we can say goodbye to the holiday weekend at the M.É.Z. With its Irish dance ensemble show and the Jag Projekt party. Good atmosphere and good music are guaranteed, you won't get bored with us! Come and celebrate with us! Detailed programs here.

tartalom: + 1 The first rectangular bathhouse, consisting of two buildings, was built in 1795 by the landowner Count I. Festetics György. The news on the benefits of the medicinal water reached Vienna in 1801, and the presence of the white water lilies in the lake was already mentioned in a memoir in 1818. Additional Indian species were planted to these water lilies in 1898. In 1858, afforestation around the lake, modernisation of the spa buildings and development of the lakeside buildings for guests started. In the centre of the lake, the male and female mirror baths (baths surrounded with cabins) were located, but many people still used the sluice of Hévíz, which was wider that time, for swimming. Spa Hévíz in the 1910s and 1920s From 1905, leaseholder Reichl Vencel did his best to develop Hévíz into an international spa town.  The former bathhouse was replaced by a domed building, and it is also due to him that a number of modern accommodation and restaurants, and the „Cure Salon”, essential to the health resort, were built. In 1907, on the site of the old built bridge, a roofed bridge was erected and the characteristic two-towered main entrance was completed. In the same year, the Sanatorium and Spa Hotel of Hévíz was built. In 1911, the town received the „spa resort-like settlement” title. tartalom: + 1 The cold, foggy, rainy winter days seem to be easily survivable only when viewed from a warm room. It goes without saying that in Hévíz we recommend a pleasantly warm bath to everyone. Unwind with the power of steam! In Hévíz, if you want really warm water, you can bathe in the indoor and outdoor spa and thermal waters of the Hévíz Tófürdő or the wellness hotels. If you are willing to take on extra experiences, bathe outside in the Hévíz lake, even when it is snowing, in the warm water of the swimming pool, which is approximately 23-25°C. If you want to be sure, you can choose the indoor and outdoor thermal pools of spa and wellness hotels for the guaranteed 36°C water. Want to actively sweat? As soon as the colder autumn days arrive, the stones of the saunas in Hévíz are already heating up. It is no coincidence that the most popular autumn-winter spa experience is sauna. Pores expand in the steam of Finnish saunas. The hot air permeates every part of us and has a beneficial effect not only on our well-being, but also on the functioning of the immune system. Take a sauna anywhere, anytime to keep yourself fresh, and take a sauna with friends for the sake of the experience, because the professional sauna masters not only fill your body, but also your soul with new energy! Melt with the power of steam! Of course, you can not only warm up in traditional Finnish saunas. In the wellness hotels, steam cabins, infrared saunas, scented individual or couples' bathtubs, and light therapy equipment also help you forget the cold weather outside. If we are really lucky, we can crown the day with an outdoor hot tub. All that is good: in one! And this is the Hévíz medicinal mud massage to the core. The thick black mud, heated to around 40°C, is applied thickly on the skin and then massaged over the entire body surface. As the mud slowly cools, our skin warms up. After the massage, a very thorough warm bath is recommended, which can also be combined with swimming in 34-36°C medicinal water.
Walk, jog, hike! Forget that it's not sunny and 30°C! Put on warm shoes, layered clothes, a wind and waterproof jacket, and you can start an exciting tour! In the vicinity of Hévíz, whether you head in the direction of Rezi, Lake Balaton or Kis-Balaton, you will find numerous well-marked hiking trails. But, if you were only walking here in the city, we recommend the Tavirózsa Tanösvény, whose 2.2 km long route leads around Lake Hévíz, in the 'lower' and 'upper' Véderdő. Even if you don't go far from the city, you can recharge your energy by walking along the forest roads, move your muscles and enjoy the fresh and clean air, while you can catch a glimpse of the steaming thermal water from several points of the promenade - even from the canopy promenade. One thing is for sure, a hearty walk will definitely warm you up. Is it too cold for outdoor sports or is it raining? Jump over to Alsópáhok and test yourself in the Adrenalin Arena! Row on a steaming stream! Find a friendly tour guide and join the challenge! You will have a wonderful experience on the warm flowing water of Lake Hévíz, on the Hévíz stream. The approximately 3-hour program includes 10 km of paddling, for which you do not need to be a professional canoeist, and you can even take on the distance with children. Bring warm clothes and maybe a pillow under your bottom, and the organizers will provide you with professional equipment and hot drinks during the journey and at the end of the distance. But if you paddle, you won't get cold! Invite yourself over for a hot drink! You don't even have to get up from the armchair or move away from the bar to warm us up! Order yourself a warm punch, a hot coffee, tea, chocolate, or perhaps a spicy mulled wine and you can already feel like the emperor of life, as long as you let the steaming drink in your palm sip, so that the minutes just tick by carefree.

tartalom: + 1 Since when do we go to the beach to "swim and sunbathe"? Bathing became a trend in Europe—especially in England and France—from the mid-19th century. Brighton, Biarritz, Scheveningen: these places saw the birth of the first “bathing fashions.” Although trends didn’t spread nearly as fast as they do today via Insta posts and social media, Hungary wasn’t far behind the Western bathing culture. The first bathing house on Lake Balaton opened in 1864 in Keszthely (for men), followed by similar structures in Balatonfüred and Siófok. These were more like changing cabins built onto piers, with separate facilities for men and women. Entering the water was guided more by etiquette and medical advice than by fun. We can proudly say that therapeutic spas like Hévíz introduced bath cabins much earlier, especially upon medical recommendation. In Hévíz, the first bathhouse on stilts was already built in 1795—meaning that bathers came to Lake Hévíz even before Lake Balaton became popular.   Long Skirts and Puffy Trousers But back to our main topic—what did our predecessors actually consider "swimwear"? Primarily, it was an outfit designed for walking along the beach. Going into the water or sunbathing was out of the question. The seashore was mainly recommended for the benefit of salty sea air. The beach attire covered nearly every part of the body, and parasols were a must-have for ladies, as tanned skin was not appropriate in aristocratic and bourgeois circles. Simply put, it was considered too “common.” Some, of course, couldn’t resist the temptation of the water. For them, swimming wasn’t even an option—they were lucky if they didn’t get too wet in their "bathing" outfits, which looked something like this: Long skirt – down to the ankles, to hide the legs Baggy trousers underneath – for modesty Waist belt or drawstring – to keep the dress in place in the water Long-sleeved blouse – often with a collar Hat or head covering – to protect from the sun Materials: flannel, linen, or thick wool. These fabrics held their shape well when dry—but became extremely heavy when wet! Light colors were typically chosen, since the many layers already made the outfits warm enough—dark colors would’ve made things even worse.   Subtle Modernization, or the Era When Calves No Longer Had to Be Hidden By the end of the 19th century, expectations began to change. As more people ventured into the water, skirts became shorter—now only just below the knees—so the trousers underneath also became shorter and less baggy. Eventually, separate skirts and blouses were replaced by a single-piece tunic-style garment for simplicity and safety. The new swimwear often featured large collars and sailor-style motifs. Colors were mostly navy blue or black, often with stripes. The darker colors helped ensure the thinner garments remained opaque when wet. In the 1910s–1920s, swimsuits began shrinking rapidly Starting in the 1910s, swimming gained popularity—especially among women. Swimwear fashion followed this shift toward practicality, led by figures like Australian swimming champion and actress Annette Kellerman. In 1907, she was even arrested in the U.S. for wearing a one-piece, body-hugging swimsuit. That event only added fuel to the fire, accelerating the modern transformation of swimwear, which coincided with the rise of women’s emancipation. Sleeveless tops appeared almost out of nowhere (even in casual wear), and swimsuits were sometimes one-piece, sometimes two-piece. Trousers were shortened to mid-thigh, and eventually to much shorter lengths. The resulting scandal led to enforced swimsuit regulations, including mandatory length measurements—sometimes checked with tape measures! Wool still dominated in materials, but now with thinner weaves. Large hats were replaced by headscarves or swim caps, not for sun protection but to keep hair in place. Still, the suits remained heavy (and dark), especially when wet.   Elastic Fabric Revolutionizes Swimwear in the 1920s–30s This change wasn’t driven primarily by new attitudes, but by a new invention: Lastex, a rubber-threaded textile. Thanks to this material, swimsuits in the 1920s became form-fitting. Skirts disappeared completely, and necklines and backlines grew bolder. The elastic fabric allowed for snug-fitting, stretchy, and—most importantly—fast-drying swimsuits. Less fabric was needed, and color variety exploded on the beaches. Swimwear became not only practical but sexy, too. Film stars of the 1930s—like Jean Harlow or Greta Garbo—graced magazine covers in their swimsuits. Swimwear Fashion at Lake Balaton and in Hévíz Hungarian beach towns like those along Lake Balaton and Hévíz also adopted international swimwear trends. By the late 1920s, women were wearing shorter, one-piece swimsuits, and men wore tank-top-style suits. At Lake Hévíz, the clothing remained more conservative due to its medicinal purpose, but sportier swimsuits also became increasingly popular. What Came Next? After World War II, everything changed. In the mid-1940s, French engineer Louis Réard introduced the first bikini—ushering in an entirely new era of swimwear fashion. But that’s another story... Image sources: Fortepan and heviz.hu
