Hévíz , Hévíz

A themed city discovery walk during which the past of Hévíz comes to life. This guided tour takes participants back to the spa culture of the late 18th to early 20th centuries and the era of the Festetics family, showing how the area around the healing lake became a world-famous spa destination. During the walk, visitors can discover historic buildings, villas, memories of former spa life, and the stories and personalities who contributed to the development and reputation of Hévíz.

Happy Peaceful Times Historical Walks

The first developers of Hévíz were the Festetics family. The medicinal lake had been known since the 18th century, but larger-scale construction only began in the mid-19th century. From the end of the century, the spa resort leased by the Festetics family experienced enormous growth after the turn of the century.

During the walk, participants will learn what role a brewing family from Keszthely played in this development and how the area around the lake was built up. There will also be stories about when the first villas appeared, which of them still stand today in their original splendour, which were rebuilt, and which have disappeared entirely. But how was the news of this unique healing lake spread at that time? Who were the famous guests of the spa resort? What was offered to patients and visitors arriving here? These questions will also be answered while strolling through the streets of Hévíz.
