tartalom: + 1 In 2015, Hévíz created its own trademark for the accreditation of therapies based on Lake Hévíz's medicinal properties. The effectiveness of Traditional Hévíz Therapy, which has excellent results in alleviating musculoskeletal complaints, is proven by the 220-year-old history of thermal medicine, thousands of recovered guests and modern medical research. In addition to bathing in medicinal water, the basic elements of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy are mudpack and weight bath. As an additional treatment, drinking medicinal water from the drinking fountain is part of the package as well as various massages, movement therapies, physiotherapy and hydrotherapy. Ideally, the duration of the cure is two weeks. Institutions that have the necessary professional and medical background, as well as the medical infrastructure for the therapy (e.g. thermal water pool, weight bath, facilities for carrying out mud packs), are eligible for the trademark. Every two years, a professional committee verifies whether the requirements are met. On 15th February 2019, three experienced rheumatologists, Dr Annamária Bergmann, Dr Gábor Domokos and Dr Sándor Csordás, personally visited the institutions providing the Therapy to check the infrastructure and staffing conditions of the Traditional Hévíz Therapy. Each day of the Easter Festival the visitors awaitwith fairs, playhouses and traditional food, of course.       1st-5th May | Hévíz at the Turn of the Century The event, which was started in 2011, evokes the ‘golden years’ of Hévíz, a period that lasted from the 1860s to the 1930s. The town tries to recall the atmosphere of the palmy days of peace in every possible way during the event: organ-grinders wearing tails and top hat play music in the streets, ladies dressed in hoop skirt and hat walk in the flowering park leading to the thermal lake. The event will be opened by a costume parade accompanied with live music and dance, in the course of which the professions and trades of the period will be presented.   11st May | Flavius Day In Egregy (a district of Hévíz) next to the remains of the Roman villa, in a beautiful landscaped area, we recall the traditions of Roman times: gladiator fights, toga parades, ancient oracles, the fashion and hairstyle, as well as ancient board games. You can have a taste from the dishes and drinks of the period.     19th May | 4th Running Festival of Hévíz The runners who manage to run 4-14-21 km will not only get to experience a well-organised event but they also will be gifted T-Shirts, medals and an unforgettable experience! The half marathon can be done individually or in a relay.       5th-8th June | Pentecostal Merriment and Fair During the four-day Pentecostal celebrations, we await the visitors of Hévíz with joyful programmes and activities. The tradition of electing the king and queen of Pentecost will also be evoked. During the festivities, don’t miss the Pentecostal fair and playhouse either.       16th June | XIV. Lotus RetroConcours D'Elegance At the Lotus Retro Mobil Concours d'Elegance, precious and exotic collectibles from Hungary, Austria and Germany find their way to Hévíz. On Sunday in the large park of the Lotus Therme "high-gloss atmosphere", when the beautiful models of Mercedes, Lotus, Jaguar, Corvette, Cadillac or Porsche can be viewed and evaluated. The parish feast is held in her honour on Mary Magdalene’s Day every year. Real festive atmosphere with arts and crafts fair, carousel, shooting gallery and excellent culinary offers are provided for the visitors.     3rd-4th August | Nostalgia Weekend At the nostalgia weekend, the centre of Hévíz will be filled with chamber ensembles, pianists recalling the atmosphere of old cafés, while couples are dancing the waltz all around. tartalom: + 1 During the period from 6 th January 2015 to 28th February 2015  parking is going to be free just in the Central Parkplace.  The discount introduced in 2011 winter was a great success among the guests therefore the town decided to contribute to a carefree winter holiday this year again.     Although the first hour is free in the central car park so far and then only 100 Ft had to be paid per hour, now even this can be saved.   It is worth to sit in the car and come to Hévíz to taste roasted chestnut in the Christmas fair or ice-skate with the kids and in the meantime you don’t have to think about the parking meter.   Have a nice time!

tartalom: + 1 Friday 13th did not bring the Borbély Family Winery bad luck. On 13th February 2015 the Wine of Town Hévíz was chosen for the 8th time, organised by the Hévíz TDM Association. During the public and professional rating of the jury, the visitors could taste the six best wines. They intended to choose the wine that reflects the atmosphere of town Hévíz and would certainly appeal to the general public. That is why the Borbély Family Winery’s Gabriella Muscat Ottonel ’2014’ of Badacsony was chosen. According to the opinion of the jury it is harmonious, elegant and keepable, it suits well to the atmosphere of the spa town and it could be a worthy representative of Hévíz, since this wine will represent the town at touristic and protocol events in 2015. The Wine of Town Hévíz 2015 can be purchased in the Tourinform Office in Hévíz and will be available at most of the restaurants and bars of Hévíz from the end of February 2015.

lead: From among many prestigious awards, the Thermal Lake Bath in Hévíz has been honoured with the EuropeSpa MED seal this time.

tartalom: + 1 The EuropeSpa MED certificate is a high-quality European quality assurance system that is awarded to medical and wellness service providers. The certificate can be received by the medical and wellness service providers that comply with the strict quality, safety and service requirements.   The certificate demonstrates that visitors can use the services of the site with confidence, since they will receive real high quality in the field of therapy, accommodation, gastronomy, hygiene and spa services.    The Thermal Lake Bath of Hévíz was inspected in February 2017 by the European Spas Association, which awards the certificates. In the course of the inspection, the Lake Bath met the criteria of EuropeSpa MED qualification, so it received the certification at an award ceremony with three other Hungarian baths on 5th May 2017.    Hévíz’s unique and internationally renowned thermal lake, the natural healing factors and the more than 200-year-old professional medical background have all contributed to the fact that the treasure of Hévíz could comply with the strict requirements of the seal.   What is European Spas Association?   The awarding organisation, ESPA (European Spas Association) consists of more than 1,500 European spas and health resorts. In the course of the competition, the public can decide which city of the top 20 tourist paradises in Europe is worthy of the title of "best destination". The prize was established to promote European tourism and culture, in cooperation with more than 300 tourism partners and the EDEN network set up by the European Commission. This year's ‘European Best Destination 2020’ vote ended at noon on 5 th February 2020, with over 600,000 votes on Europe's top destinations. The result: In this exclusive competition, Hévíz finished in the top fifteen, ahead of, among others Prague and Madrid. The 12th place that Hévíz achieved shows that Hévíz received the most votes among the spa towns in the nine-year history of the competition, so Hévíz is one of the greatest spa brands in Europe. During the competition, - in addition to domestic votes - many votes were received from German, English, Norwegian, Austrian, Russian and Asian travellers. This clearly proves that Hévíz is a prestigious tourist destination of these nations.     Its significance: Hévíz is not only famous for the world's largest natural thermal lake; but for years, more and more guests have been attracted by the high quality of hotel services, excellent gastronomy and leisure facilities, which are becoming increasingly popular with families and groups of friends. Hévíz boasts the title of European Capital of Well-Being in 2020, based on the results of the competition. Hévíz is listed all year round on Europe's most visited tourist website as a highly recommended destination: it has six million website visitors and ninety thousand Facebook followers. Tourist activity increased by an average of 15% in the settlements participating in the competition in previous years. tartalom: + 1 The Hungarian spa town of Hévíz is famous for its sulphurous thermal lake and its unconventional therapies. The devil himself once worked the fields around here, but it was such hard going that in a fit of rage, old Harry flung down his plow so hard that it shot deep into the earth – or so the ancient Hungarian legend goes. Warm water henceforth flowed from a spring on that spot and has fed the thermal lake ever since. Resort entrance The reality on this early fall morning in Hévíz is less dramatic:14 degrees Celsius and a light drizzle. After a cool night,a white mist hangs over the deep-blue lake and the bathhouse on stilts at its center with its pretty wooden spires. It looks straight out of a Disney film, but smells like a sulfur mine.   Author Mathias Becker in the thermal lake I wait on the shore, shivering in my shorts. I’m supposed to take a dip in the lake, but not before an attendant has arrived– for safety’s sake. The fumes apparently make some people feel woozy in the water. I stick my big toe in to test it – lukewarm. When my potential life saver comes into sight soon after, I slide into the lake like a fish eager to return to its element. Sedately, I swim by water lilies and on into the fairy-tale landscape. Somewhere beneath me lies the lake’s geological source: Every second, 410 liters of mineral-rich water, heated naturally to a very pleasant temperature by the earth, flow from a crack inthe rock 38 meters down. That’s why the water temperature can be as high as 38° C in summer and only go down to 25° C in  winter. Regular bathing in the lake is said to ease rheumatic complaints and back pain; drinking the water in healing doses reputedly aids digestive disorders. The mists have now evaporated and the first bathers of the day are stepping into the lake. Nearly all have a brightly colored foam pool noodle around their hips. It looks silly but helps keep them afloat – a safety precaution. You’re not supposed to stay in the water for more than half an hour anyway, and it’s completely off limits for anyone with cardiovascular problems. I swim slowly back, then make myself comfortable on one of the sunbeds around the inner pool. The lake has made me drowsy. Tropical waterlilies With a surface area of over four hectares, this thermal lake is the largest in the world suitable for bathing. There is one in New Zealand of a similar size, but at a constant temperature of 55 to 60° C, it is better suited to steaming vegetables than bathing. The Hévíz lake resort, on the other hand, is like a warm bathtub even in frosty weather, making the small town on the western shore of Lake Balaton Hungary’s most popular place of pilgrimage for those with back and joint complaints, even despite its competition within Hungary. From the famous Turkish baths in Budapest to the cave baths of Miskolc (where you have to swim through tenebrous tunnels) and the thermal baths in Hajdúszoboszló (one of Europe’s largest), more than 1300 thermal springs make the country on the Pannonian Plaina veritable healing hotspot. Many a source was only discovered while drilling for oil, but the warm waters of Hévíz were already popular with the ancient Romans. Bathing culture ended soon after the fall of Rome and was only revived in the late 18th century. First came the nobles and the bourgeoisie; then, in the Communist era, it was the turn of the workers. Allegedly, it was the party big wigs who involuntarily stopped the fun: Duringone of their sauna parties, the wooden bathhouse caughtfire and burned down. Rebuilt in 1989, the bathhouse reopened when Communism ended. The old political system disappeared, but Hévíz remained and blossomed. The town recorded over a million overnight stays in 2017, around 40 percent from Hungary, the rest from across Europe. A wellness industry with massage and beauty salons has long become established in and around the resort. Hotels have installed spas, and some flood their pools with the thermal water. To get a sense of the unbroken enthusiasm for Hévíz, I booked in for some of the traditional Hévíz treatments. First, the mud bath. I climb down steps into a steel basin the size of a garden pool that’s anchored in the lake. Just a few steps, and already the heavy mud, making a gloopy, bubblysound at every step, is up to my thighs – and up to my bellybutton when I sit down. A woman beside me reaches for the grainy, strong-smelling mass and gleefully smears it onto her face and shoulders. I bravely follow her lead. That evening, I notice that my skin feels unusually soft and I sleep better that night than I have for a very long time. Awakening the next morning, I can’t wait to get moving and am ravenously hungry. After breakfast, I have a massage appointment in the wellness and therapy area. Stefania Bajer, atherapeutic and sports masseur sporting a severe undercut, greets me with a firm handshake. In just 20 minutes, she has kneaded my muscles so expertly that I still feel the beneficial effects of it days later. I ask her whether my back is in good shape. I’m 40, I jog now and again, but spend most of my time in front of the computer. I haven’t had any pain – so far. “You need to exercise more,” says Bayer, “much more!” Mud wrestler: author Mathias Becker is clearly enjoying his bath Later on, I get to see where a lack of exercise can lead at the bath house: to the underwater “stretching pool,” where patients with back problems are suspended in the water, their arms or neck fastened into a kind of harness so that they cannot move. At the same time, weights attached to their hips pull their vertebraeminimally apart, relieving the discs between them. Developed in 1953 by Károly Moll, a local physician, this therapyis still used successfully on patients with disc problems. As I have no trouble with my spinal discs, I am allowed into thewater with very little ballast for a kind of trial therapy, so to speak. My arms rest on a kind of underwater gymnastics bar and I am drawn down by two three-kilo steel weights attached toa belt. My feet make no contact. “Harascho?” In Russian, Bajerasks the young man next to me whether he’s all right – but he doesn’t look it. My neighbor is wearing the kind of neck brace people wear after a rear-impact collision, and there are two metal bars on top of it, keeping his head above water. “Harascho …,”he breathes softly. As we leave the pool 20 minutes later, Anton Marukhin tells me that he’s a 28-year-old advertising and music video producer living near Moscow, and that he suffers with back pain. “I sit a lot, maybe that’s why,” he says. The doctors in Russia couldn’t help him so his parents sent him to Hévíz. The town’s healing reputation clearly extends far beyond the borders of Hungary. The underwater stretching bath is said to ease back problems. One of the men aiming to help pain patients like Marukhinis Dr. Gábor Domokos, the rheumatology and physiotherapy consultant in charge of wellness and therapy at the resort. He wears white sneakers with his white coat and is 68 but looks much younger. That’s not from bathing in the lake, he says (he cycles a lot and hikes in the hills around Lake Balaton), adding that too much significance should not be read into the lake water alone because no precise physiological explanation has been found for how the minerals work. “But we do know that many people who come to us with chronic pain feel better after the treatment.” The secret probably lies in the package: exercise in the warm water, possibly also the water’s composition,and then the peace, the long woodland walks – recently coined as “forest bathing” – physiotherapy, and a good, healthy diet. And also the sleep, I think to myself. Besides intensive curative swimming physicians recommend longwoodland walks Dr. Gábor Domokosis head of wellness and therapy Finally, I test the mud pack: I lie down on my back and am covered from neck to toe in the warm mass and then wrapped in foil and towels like a napkin dumpling. The mud weighs heavyon my body. Not a minute later and I have dozed off once again. Several days later, once I’ve returned home, I open my case and a sulfurous cloud rises to meet me. A most stimulating odor. I pullon my running shoes and head out the door. I’ve had enough sulfur to last me awhile. tartalom: + 1 11-19 February Kissing benches in Hévíz Organized by the Hello Hévíz - Hévíz Entrepreneurs Association, cozy benches, bridges and gates awaited the romantic guests in Hévíz for the 3rd time in the middle of February. The "kissing benches" set up in many parts of the city not only put passers-by in a romantic mood, but those who submitted their photos could also participate in a nice game. 18 February Women's Carnival The vendors of the Hévíz Farmers' Market organized the first Women's Carnival in 2023 with the goal of creating tradition. At the cozy event, fun, fun and delicious carnival snacks played a leading role, much to the delight of the participants and market visitors.  7-10 April Easter fair Traditionally connected to the Easter festivities, the organizers welcome visitors to Hévíz with a craft fair, an egg hunt game, children's programs and atmospheric concerts. The programs expected during the four-day weekend: flea market, games, family movie afternoon at the Fontana Cinema, brass bands, early evening retro disco, wooden toy park. 29 April - 1 May Happy Peacetimes in Hévíz and City Day The 11th Happy Peace Times Hévíz costume parade will be organized on Saturday afternoon, 29 April. The crowd, dressed in period clothes, will start from the City Hall and walk down the park to Festetics Square, where the groups will finally present themselves on the Rákóczi Street stage. The parade is led by the Happy Dixieland Band and dancers again this year. After the spectacular parade, you can take photos together at selfie points in the city center. More concerts are expected in the evening, but even on Sunday, various bands will entertain the guests of Hévíz. 1 May is traditionally the day of the city, when the honorary titles of the city of Hévíz are awarded. Throughout the three-day long weekend, artisans, wineries and gastro stands await visitors in Rákóczi Street. On Sunday, you can even expect a cozy lakeside picnic. 14 May Running race After a 3-year break, young and old alike can re-enroll and support the Hévíz Running Festival. The running competition is organized by the Hévíz sports association for several distances and age groups. You can find the entry fees, distances and route on the event page, where the information is constantly updated. 19 May Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz This year, the Hévíz Lake team organizes two late-night bathing sessions in Lake Hévíz, once in the spring and once in the fall. This year, for the first time in mid-May, you can enjoy the atmosphere of a really fast-paced concert while swimming in the warm water of the thermal lake. The evening will be opened by the best-known ABBA hits, followed by a retro disco. 28-29 May Pentecost Superhero program For the third time, the Hello Hévíz - Hévíz Entrepreneurs Association organizes the Pentecost superhero family program. Many challenges, multiple locations, funny and fun trials throughout the city. Thus, we await guests with family-friendly programs even during the long weekend of Pentecost. 23 June Midsummers Eve's program On the occasion of Midsummers Eve's programs are expected in Hévíz on June 23. This year, the local entrepreneurs are also organizing a torchlight parade and an atmospheric, musical program in Egregy, in the museum garden. 13-16 July BEER promenade in Hévíz In whatever form you like it, come to us on the second weekend of July and celebrate with us the traditional drink, beer, also known as "liquid bread" for an entire weekend.In addition to beer, of course there is also a place for the delicious dishes that go with them, and days do not go by without good music. We also thought of the smallest members of the family, while the adults indulge their taste buds, the children can have fun too. What's more, if you feel like it, you can visit the handicraft exhibition yard on Saturday, where you can see up close how the masters make their works. 4-6 August Blanket festival (EKF2023 program/eco-festival in Egregy) The program takes place in Hévíz within the framework of the EKF 2023 Veszprém-Balaton event series. We warmly welcome everyone to a festival with a family atmosphere, where there will be interactive sessions and workshops during the day, and thematic programs in the evening. Among them are star-studded nature film screenings and unplugged concerts. Picnic atmosphere and eco-conscious performances, at an old-new venue in Hévíz. You can read updated information about the event here. 17-20 August Wine and Gastropromenade This year, the traditional wine and food festival in Hévíz at the end of August will not be missed. In Rákóczi Street, many local and invited wine houses, roast stalls and artisans will be selling their wares. It's noon on stagewe entertain the public visiting Hévíz with children's shows every afternoon and concerts in the evenings!   September TavirózsaFolkFest Negotiations are still ongoing regarding the autumn folk dance meeting, but we are confident that we will be able to watch the shows of many performers on the Rákóczi Street stage this year as well. September 15. Moonlight bath on Lake Hévíz The second lakeside party of the year, extending into the night, will take place in mid-September. Similar to previous occasions like this, there will be live music, a retro disco atmosphere, night bathing, delicious snacks and refreshing drinks in the Hévíz Tófürdő. 16-17 October Chestnut festival Organized by the Tavirózsa Adventure Park, you will be able to learn everything about the chestnut again this year. From the care of saplings to the processing of sweet and wild chestnuts, many interesting things will be revealed at the autumn event, which of course will not leave children and food lovers without a program. On New Year's Eve, a street party will of course await guests visiting Hévíz. Between June and October, within the framework of the 2023 Veszprém-Balaton European Capital of Culture program several smaller events (micro-concerts, informative lectures, children's performances) are held in the Véderdő in Hévíz under the title Forest Mystery or Game in the Green.
