This time, a special side of Hévíz was recreated in a virtual world: participants in the Creative Science summer Minecraft camp built Lake Hévíz in the popular game. In the children’s creations, the lake and its surroundings come to life through Minecraft’s characteristic blocks.
As part of the programme, the campers also attended an approximately 20-minute presentation about the town, given by Böröczné Bolla Krisztina. During the presentation, the children had the opportunity to learn more about Hévíz and its local treasures.
One of the camp’s creative projects was to recreate Lake Hévíz in Minecraft. The result brings together one of Hévíz’s best-known symbols with a digital environment familiar to the children.
Using Minecraft in this way is not new to Creative Science programmes. In other projects, participants also explore and survey real-life locations, then use their experiences to recreate them together in a virtual environment. First-hand discovery, planning, creativity and teamwork all play an important role in this approach.
The creations inspired by Lake Hévíz are a great example of how a world-famous digital game can be combined with discovering local treasures. From the children’s perspective, Hévíz became more than just a town they visited and a place with a unique natural treasure: it also became somewhere they could recreate in the virtual world using their own ideas.
