Lake Balaton in the International Spotlight: Business Tourism Gains New Momentum

More Than a Conference Venue

According to VisitBalaton365, the exclusive event, held between 3–5 June, followed the internationally recognised TBYB (Try Before You Buy) concept. This experience-based approach enables hosted buyers to personally discover and test the area's premium infrastructure, venues and visitor experiences during their stay.

Over the course of the three-day study tour, the delegation explored key attractions, event venues and tourism service providers in Balatonfüred, Tihany, Szántód, Badacsony, Hévíz and Keszthely. The programme included visits to the Folly Arboretum and the Festetics Palace in Keszthely, while in Tihany participants attended an organ concert at the Benedictine Abbey. In Hévíz, the group discovered the town’s attractions and active tourism opportunities on an e-bike tour. The study tour culminated in a half-day B2B workshop hosted by Le Primore Hotel & Spa in Hévíz, providing an excellent platform for business meetings between overseas buyers and tourism providers from the Balaton region.

What Does the MICE Acronym Mean?

The MICE sector – encompassing meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions – is one of the tourism industry’s highest value-generating segments today. Participants attending such events are not merely seeking accommodation and conference facilities; they are looking for inspiring surroundings, high-quality leisure opportunities and authentic experiences that extend beyond the walls of traditional meeting rooms.

The growth of business tourism represents far more than the emergence of a new visitor segment for Lake Balaton. It contributes to reducing seasonality, strengthens local businesses and supports the development of superior, four-season tourism model with an international outlook. Thanks to its globally recognised health tourism heritage, outstanding hotel infrastructure and extensive wellness offer, Hévíz plays a key role in this expanding sector.

Opportunities for the Future

The MICE sector is therefore much more than a frequently used industry buzzword. It creates measurable economic value by increasing guest nights, supporting local service providers and contributing to the stabilisation of year-round tourism. It represents a new market segment with considerable growth potential, extending beyond Lake Balaton’s traditional role as a popular holiday destination. At the same time, it strengthens the area’s position as a dynamic and competitive location capable of responding to the evolving demands of modern international markets.
